I have, LL. Had a nuts day with work, and then had to plead with Danny to stop swimming after a man in a canoe in the river, so when I got back I created this masterpiece to help soothe my nerves. The possibilities are endless, I’ve only just begun. Excited.
We just got back from a naturalization ceremony at the Hoover Presidential Library just down the road here in eastern Iowa. I always heard that you should go to at least one of these ceremonies b/c it’s very inspiring - and that proved very true! It also happens to be Constitution Day, so it was a good dose of patriotism. We liked the speeches, the music, and the general happy atmosphere all around. There were 77 new citizens from 30 countries. Mr. Muscatinegal said he liked the recorded welcome message from POTUS the best of all the speeches, of course.
Corker was revolting. You would have thought Kerry was the most evil person in the world the way Corker treated him. Kerry, of course, just remained calm and continued to state facts. I was glad to see Boxer was next up, because I knew she would let Corker have it, and she did. I’ve seen a lot of political posturing and tough questioning in my day, but that today may have been the most hateful and shameful.

John Bass’ becoming ambassador to Turkey didn’t take nearly as long – he only waited about 100 days – but the fact he, too, enjoyed unanimous support raises the question of why he couldn’t have been confirmed sooner in light of Turkey’s geo-strategic significance.
The answer, of course, is that Senate Republicans’ feelings were hurt when Senate Democrats restored minority rule on nomination votes, which may seem ridiculous, but which happens to be true.
No one with any sense does, but the sad thing is she has been given the opportunity to have her idiotic remarks sent out to the masses in teevee land—-as if they mattered.
That shows gets less than 1 million viewers each day and that’s a stretch. If I polled 10 people I know I would probably get one that even knows that this show exists. Most people work during the day and don’t watch this stuff.
Afternoon everyone, I’m back (I think). I’ve been stressed a bit the past few days, so laid low and tried to avoid stressors—which means avoiding the idiotic news media. Feel a bit better now, and we should know more next week as to whether/when the missus will care for my ex-sister-in-law, which would mean, finally, full time work.
So allow me to vent about my vents. Half the time that I press the shiny button to turn on my central a/c, the compressor doesn’t kick in, so I just get warm air. By the time I do manage to trip the compressor, the house is a furnace. So, had a tech come out yesterday. Compressor is fine, capacitor is fine, everything is operating within normal parameters. And, of course, when he got to the house, the a/c turned on fine. We’re surmising that it’s a safety that gets tripped, but that should only happen if I turn off the a/c and then turn it back on 2 or 3 minutes later. There have been times that the a/c has been off for 2 or 3 HOURS and the compressor still doesn’t fire up. My tech yesterday couldn’t explain it. So someone who’s been around the block a bit more than he has will be coming out Friday morning to see if he can solve the mystery.
Jovie…there are 700 domestic/child abuse cases in the NFL…do you want to post ALL 700 of them here?
And by the way - most of the 700 are not Black…so if all 50 Blacks are discovered, that leaves 650 non-Blacks. So carry on….and tell us when you get tired…

If that judge had black skin, you betcha - his face would be plastered on every media outlet, every tweet and every opening segment on various political shows. Not only that, but there would be calls from every corner of the media and government for Pres Obama and/or Eric Holder to publicly condemn this federal judge’s acts and to see to it that he faces justice swiftly and appropriately.
We are not defending anyone who commits acts of violence/abuse against others. And you can’t point to any evidence that we are doing or have done that.
However, we have every right to point out when the media have selectively focused on these cases where the perpetrators have been Black. And I couldn’t help but notice how quickly you rushed to the media’s defense when I pointed out their focus was not so much on the violent acts or the victims, but rather on the “race” of the perpetrators which created this whole narrative about Black families and how they discipline their children.

There are several other abuse cases that others like amk, Nathkatun7, Nena, etc have pointed out and you had absolutely nothing to say about them when they were first brought to light.
For all of the attacks on PBO’s strategy for ISIL the last couple of months, I have not heard ONE alternative option that has any more chance of success than what he is doing from either politicians or the so called “experts”. There are only three alternatives here: PBO’s plan, send in our ground troops and we know how well that worked out in Irag, or do nothing and wait for another 9/11 to happen. PBO is the smartest man in the room and knows full well that the odds of success are not in his favor on this. Moreover, this is NOT how he wanted to spend his second term. But he takes his responsibility to protect the US seriously so chose the best of the three bad options. Would the antiwar folks really just let ISIL be until they have the resources to mount an attack on the US? Guess so. In the meantime, little by little there is progress. The Iraqis took back their University from ISIL today, Indonesia arrested 7 suspected ISIL terrorists, and Australia is conducting the largest anti-terrorist raid in its history. As to the troops, not only is it the thousands of soldiers thrilled to see PBO, but you could see the mutual respect between General Austin and PBO in their interaction today. The media continues with their BS despite all evidence to the contrary. End of rant:-)

My argument is: everybody already knows who these nfl stars are, and many kids including black kids have Jerseys with the last names on them.

The Iraqis took back their University from ISIL today, Indonesia arrested 7 suspected ISIL terrorists, and Australia is conducting the largest anti-terrorist raid in its history. Countries are responding.
As to the troops, not only is it the thousands of soldiers thrilled to see PBO, but you could see the mutual respect between General Austin and PBO in their interaction today. The media continues with their BS despite all evidence to the contrary. End of rant:-)

Agree with both comments. People need to check themselves as they haven’t a clue on how to deal with this issue. PBO has all evidence needed to make the informed decisions, and as Senator Boxer said, he is deliberative and cautious. Ditto for SOS Kerry.

Agree with you both on John Kerry! He is SOS the right half of the Obama administration. He is strong and patient, and understands diplomacy. Every time I think that the idiot GWB defeated him…….I cringe. I console myself by realizing that he was made for this job at this time.
So agree Carolyn. Everything happens for a reason. And while I still wish he had defeated GWB, we might not have had PBO for a president if Kerry had won that election. Also, I’m not sure that he isn’t happiest in the role he currently occupies. He indeed is made for it.
I think if Kerry had won in 2004, PBO would have run in 2012 for his first term, and we’d get until 2020 before PBO would leave!! Wouldn’t that have been wonderful? Oh well, what’s done, is done.

One of the things I admire most about PBO is that he is a realist. He is also optimistic and hopeful, but he has a strong core of realism that works with what is. His grasp of the international situation is second to none. He and Kerry together understand what’s happening, and pipsqueaks like Corker should not even be allowed to speak.

The argument you’re making is the media should unformed the public who Judge fuller is ?
My argument is: everybody already knows who these nfl stars are, and many kids including black kids have Jerseys with the last names on them.
Pretty sure no jerseys in America have Judge Fuller on them. Also, many kids pretend they’re these nfl players in the playground.
Thus the influence is much different and on a larger scale.
But I don’t disagree about the influence, on kids especially, of sports stars, etc. I think back to - sorry Nerdy and LL - the Chelsea captain John Terry calling an opponent a “f**king black c**t”, a racism charge on which he was acquitted, despite admitting he used the words. And so he became an even bigger hero for racist scumbags. Just as Rice has become an even bigger hero for some who think that woman got what she deserved and reckon violence against women is no big deal.
So I don’t blame the media for reporting on the likes of Rice and Peterson, it’s part of their job, but you reckon they should only focus on people whose names appear on the back of shirts? And not wife-beating judges who escape justice because of who they are? There can’t be many bigger scandals than that.
Like I said no kids strive to be old white senile judges.

This is not just one case being ignored. This is one EXAMPLE of the numerous cases involving white perpetrators that are routinely ignored by the media. And this is a particularly glaring example, as Chips pointed out for the reasons that she stated.
If the MSM’s “concern” as they (and you claim) are REALLY about abuse, then this case should be HIGH on your radar - in fact it should be at the top of your list of things to tweet, post and comment about.
And the fact that it isn’t - is what gives us pause….
