French president condemns “cruel and cowardly” murder of tourist Herve Gourdel by Algerian militants http://bbc.in/1wLzWrm
Good afternoon TOD!
Every time I hear this man speak my heart bursts with pride for all the people that stood in long lines, walked miles in all kinds of weather, traveled to Washington, D.C. on crowed buses, trains, cars, come here daily to this blog to “chose hope over fear” by voting for him twice.
Thank you one and all. My life has purpose and meaning. I wake up anticipating a new day and what it might bring instead of dread and pull the covers back over my head, I take brisk walks, smile and say good morning to strangers i may never see again in life.
I feel what we human beings were created for and that is LOVE.
Than you, Mr. President for standing up for strong for all human beings.
Those of us who still choose good over evil appreciate your good will and hope for this world, its environment.
For all the people who still and always will believe in HOPE we applaud you for speaking up for those who will not, who refuse to and those who know that is all we have everyday we wake up. We are grateful for your caring and peaceful heart.
May God bless you and your family always .
TY, Judth.
Heart-to-Heart……
Scripture says, “Try the Spirit by the Spirit”.
President Obama has a righteous Spirit. It shows in his walk, talk and his life.
“While Democrats in Congress have been trying to make a campaign issue about corporate tax inversions, and the administration has begun to take action, former President Bill Clinton is defending them:
“Like it or not, this inversion, this is their money,” Mr. Clinton said in an interview during the Clinton Global Initiative in New York.
When asked whether inversions — the practice of American companies acquiring a small overseas rival and reincorporating abroad to lower their tax bills — are unpatriotic, as many critics say, Mr. Clinton said that publicly traded companies, in particular, “feel duty bound to pay the lowest taxes they can pay.”
amk, I’d just read a post earlier today about Hillary talking about equality in the work force, taxation to make better a wide variety of concerns. And then Bill does what Bill does best: take action before thinking of the consequences.
He fought impeachment in the morning, and spent his afternoons with Gingrich and Phil Gramm, plotting to destroy financial regulations going back to the New Deal. It was that bill that directly led to the destruction of our economy in 2008, but no one blames him. It is breathtaking what that weasel has gotten away with.
I want the WH to stay in Democratic hands, but then I flash on seeing that miserable shit back in the WH and I just cringe.
You and I are on the same page re: WJC and Glass-Steagall repeal.
FDR would be turning in his grave, rest his Soul.
WJC epitomizes hubris, and his ego equals any other historic megalomaniac.
Before the CODE-pink PUMAs came on scene, my primary objection to HRC as President was the thought (agree > shudder) of WJC rattling around the WH.
I quickly snapped out of shuddering to being terrified of the unleashing of the Tundra Twit.
The polls were in PBO’s favor in Nov 2008, during the US’s economic freefall — but it didn’t stop me from waking up several times in the middle of the night mortified of that possibility.
I distinctly remember: before McCain pulled his stunt about “suspending” his campaign to go to DC to fix the economy, EVERYONE was terrified. PBO and other Dem’s laid out the conditions for the bailout, and they had some meat to them. Then McCain came blustering back to DC and emboldened the a**holes, the deal fell apart, and the banks got away with economic murder. I also remember McCain sitting in a meeting, silent, because he is truly a stupid man. Terrifying, to be sure.
My feelings exactly 57! Not to mention DADT, DOMA, and the list goes on. I joke (not really) that the first 4 years of PBO’s presidency were spent undoing what BILL had done, not Bush. Can’t stand the man, and never could. He is so much the typical politician he makes me shudder.
Oh, I usually go through the entire litany of damage done by Bill Clinton, but I didn’t need to preach to the choir.
But while we’re at it, let us not forget the deregulation of the telecom industry, turning the entire media over to Clinton’s (apparent) enemies. The reason this POTUS can give a generation-leading speech at the U.N. and not have it televised on ANY major news network: Bill Clinton!
but what is NOT being said…is that the rich have special rules that ensure that they have special rates…rules made into laws by the Congress…it did not happen by accident…it is deliberate…riggin the game…so to speak is not Fair to the Working people of America
In one sense he is totally correct. Corporations , by law, have to make as much as they can for their stockholders, so long as they practice within the limits of the law. And our current laws allow this type of crap to continue.
One not-so-little nitpick: The opening sentence in that WaPo article makes it seem as though it was the administration that mismanaged funds and resources. This is a long-standing settlement that goes back 50 years ago….But as usual, it’s THIS administration cleaning up other people’s messes….
Agree, 57! However, it’s worth noting that the UK has reportedly been shipping necessary armaments to its fighter/bomber groups located in the ME in preparation for attacks. UK doesn’t quite have the logistical system that the US does. Not an excuse for PM Cameron’s big talk first, action maybe later - ‘style.’ Just wanted you to know.
It is also my understanding that he has no authority to act given his Parliament’s rejection of Syrian airstrikes last year. Not an excuse, but PBO at least has something he can use to justify his actions.
That’s correct, Foxfire. Also, it wasn’t until his meeting today with the Iraqi President that he received an official request to participate in airstrikes in Iraq.
I have a feeling Cameron didn’t want to get the slamming Tony Blair did in being called “Bush’s Poodle.” He had to put space and time between PBO and him. But, he is almost doing an FDR…..getting supplies and armaments in place for the battle, which he knows he will enter.
Nope. Blair had Majority in the Parliament.
Cameron is there for the Liberal Lib, I think that is their name……made is PM-ship possible. So he had to go to the Parliament. Last year, they said: No.
Funny, Nena, I remember the president getting re-elected in the last 40 months, so it must have been at that ..ah hem… 44 percent approval rating. And I wonder what state is going to see the name Barack Obama on the ballot this November?
This may sound awful, but I think if he were a white male, his approval would be ten points higher. I honestly believe he suffers in the ratings from prejudice. They should add ten points to get what his approval rating is. I sometimes wonder at the prejudice of the pollsters.
Carolyn you have a point - an excellent point. I have long suspected that PBO’s true approval rating is at least 10 pts higher than what the polling indicates. And I think the seemingly lowered rating stems from prejudice both on the part of the pollsters (the kinds of questions they ask, the timing and lead, push polls that coincide with forced media narratives, etc), and the not-so-random sample of respondents that they select. I would wager that his *true* approval rating is in the low 50s, commensurate with his 2012 election numbers.
The media unwittingly gave this *secret* away when they said in 2012 (not realizing at the time what it meant) that if everyone who was eligible to vote, voted, PBO would win by a blowout margin. This is exactly the case with the polling - only one set of people are polled. And it’s a non-random sample that skews white, conservative, and yes - racist (regardless of political ID).
Chips, please know that I love your creative art, those slim and slick characters that can raise their hands/arms, dance and tease us just by the stroke of your electronic pen. Perhaps others are jealous of such a talent (or new acquired skills). But I am not.
Interview: ‘Black-Ish’ Creator Kenya Barris Talks Blackness in the Age of Obama and in the Shadow of Cosby (Premieres Tonight)
By Jai Tiggett | Shadow and ActSeptember 24, 2014 at 2:17PM
Leading up to the series premiere, show creator Kenya Barris made time to talk with Shadow And Act about ‘Black-ish’ and what he hopes to achieve with it.
Premiering tonight on ABC, “Black-ish” follows Andre Johnson, a successful advertising executive, husband, and father trying to establish a sense of cultural identity for his family in the age of Obama and post-racial dogma.
The series is loosely based on the life of show creator Kenya Barris, who leads a team of black executive producers including Larry Wilmore, Brian Dobbins, and Helen Sugland, as well as Anthony Anderson and Laurence Fishburne, who also star.
Leading up to the series premiere, Barris made time to talk with Shadow And Act about the show and what he hopes to achieve with it.
About the series title, “Black-ish”:
I looked at my kids and realized that they’re growing up in a much different way than I did. I’m from Inglewood; my kids are not. And my understanding of what it was to be black growing up is not the world that they’re living in. They have a filtered version of that; it’s a little black-ish. They’ve taken a lot of different things from what Americana has become.
And at the same time I looked around at everyone else who was in an additive way a little black-ish. I say it in the pilot – Kim Kardashian, Justin Timberlake, everyone else who – it used to be called “co-opting,” but now it’s “an homage.” And it’s people sort of finally giving us credit for our contribution to the Zeitgeist of the world today. So I felt like the younger generation is living in this homogenized world that we’ve never really seen before, which is capped off by our President who is black and mixed race. I could have called it “The Johnsons,” or “Keeping it Real” or “The Burbs,” but I felt like I wanted to say something about this world.

I really want Bill Clinton to STFU:
