LOL! Well the guy is a partisan hack sometimes or he rubs me that way which is why I can’t stand him. However every once in a while fact checkers get it right.
So I was reading what happened about Jerusalem and I’m honestly puzzled at the wording of the headlines. 4 people get (3 Americans, 1 Brit) and it’s a massacre. When 4 kids get killed on a beach it’s called no such thing by our media. Oh and not to gloss over when 2200 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, that too was not called a massacre by the corporate pro-Israel media.
Good afternoon, TOD! Back from the funeral and repast. Am constantly amazed at what a small world it is. The deceased was one of my Mom’s best friends; she and her husband are always included in my maternal family gatherings. I’ve just became acquainted with my paternal family in 2004; since then, my late father (prior to his death), his sister, and his brothers have also been included in my parties. My paternal Aunt and one Uncle developed a friendship with the deceased. The Aunt and Uncle attended today’s funeral; at the repast they discovered that members of the deceased’s extended family are also members of my paternal family. Small world…
Now, off to a power nap. Black Violins is at 7 pm…
I wanted to go see Black Violin when they were here a week or so ago. Never made it because life got in the way. Again. Enjoy the concert… I’ll be there in spirit:)
As Matt Yglesias pointed out - it is the post-policy punditry of folks like Todd and Fournier that provides cover for obstructionist Republicans and makes the bipartisanship they pretend to pine for impossible.
This morning DF and JER posted @Lawrence’s 5-minute Rewrite segment where he read a blog by a conservative Houston Chronicle reporter.
It made for compelling viewing — it wasn’t until the end of the segment that @Lawrence admitted that he was reading, verbatim, Chris Ladd’s Nov 10 blog.
"Blue Wall" plus VA, Dems reach 270 EV in 2016

Yes, the GOP will obstruct from now until Nov 2016, at which time a Dem will be elected President by virtue of the Dem’s blue wall.
Between now and then, the Dems have the master strategist of our time on our side to circumvent the treasonous GOP.
From the article/@Lawrence segment:
“The Blue Wall is block of states that no Republican Presidential candidate can realistically hope to win. Tuesday that block finally extended to New Hampshire, meaning that at the outset of any Presidential campaign, a minimally effective Democratic candidate can expect to win 257 electoral votes without even trying. That’s 257 out of the 270 needed to win.
Arguably Virginia now sits behind that wall as well. Democrats won the Senate seat there without campaigning in a year when hardly anyone but Republicans showed up to vote and the GOP enjoyed its largest wave in modern history. Virginia would take that tally to 270. Again, that’s 270 out of 270.”
this is a very interesting analysis, and it certainly raises my hopes after the drubbing we got a couple of weeks ago. sam wang keeps saying the rethugs’ big gerrymander caper is about to turn against them, because of this consolidated dem stronghold, and i’m glad to hear that effect will be kicking in for 2016.
but of course it doesn’t mean the rethugs won’t be fighting this trend, and pouring money into propaganda that undermines the ‘blue wall’. and as we’ve seen, dems won’t come out to vote if they don’t like the candidate, or the message, regardless of the blueness of their district.
so it still comes down to putting excellent candidates forward, and sticking together on the important issues. pbo’s big smiles tell me all will be well, so i think i’ll breathe today. :)
From the article…
Outgoing U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has made the overhaul of troubled police departments among his civil-rights priorities. In the past five years, the Justice Department has investigated some 20 police departments for problems that include treatment of the mentally ill, high numbers of officer-involved shootings and patterns of excessive force and racial bias. Police departments in Detroit, Seattle and New Orleans are among those that have committed to reforms.
As Ferguson decision nears on indictment, federal probe of police could bring deeper impact, reports @etuckerAP. http://t.co/SSrSDNGEM8
Thank you for bringing this here Prettyfoot. This quote from Ursula Price:
“I can name 25 Michael Browns,” she said. “We’ve been through this over and over again, so our perspective has deepened.”
Whatever happens in Ferguson, I’m so glad that AG Holder is on this. I want justice for Micheal Brown and his family, but true justice would be for their to be no more Micheal Browns, and that requires light, transparency and overhauls of the culture and practices of these PDs.
It is good to keep track. The vote will pass, but I want to remember closely those that vote NO. Not so much to punish those that vote yes, but to reward those that vote the wrong way.
My contribution to, say, Stabenow or King, may not match what the Koch Brothers can give to those that vote yes, but it will be much more heartfelt. And, in fact, if any of those Dems that vote yes think it will improve their standing in the eys of the Koch Brothers, they are sadly mistaken.
If the oil running through the Keystone Pipe will benefit only Canada, then why the hell do we need it to come through our land. Who else will it benefit? I heard something about those filthy rich Koch Brothers.
O.k. TODers, you’ve inspired me! I got an email this morning from DCCC asking me to “Stand with the President” alongside a list of his accomplishments (the nerve of them!), I wrote back with this:
“I have been standing with President Barack Obama since he announced his candidacy and I have not wavered in my support. Unfortunately, this past election, many in the Democratic Party leadership and many candidates chose to not to stand with this incredibly successful President and his amazing accomplishments. If Democrats want to win again they need to follow their current leader, who was elected by a popular and an electoral vote twice. This man and his team know how to get the vote out. You wasted this expertise in the last election and wasted my donations in the process.
In the future I will only donate, volunteer and/or get behind those in our party who choose to stand with, follow the example of, and run on the long list of accomplishments of President Obama.”
MadameSoph,
Your reply to that email is similar to mine.
I was deeply offended they had the nerve to ask me to stand behind my President
I am so glad that I sent them that and WILL NOT donate anymore to the “so-called party only to the individual.
It’s hard to believe that it has only been two weeks since the roof kind of fell in with the GOP victories. By that, when you consider everything that PBO has already done and is talking about doing, it is hard to believe he could do that in only two weeks.
All this talk about his being a “lame duck” is a quack of s**t.
Did anyone see last night’s Colbert interview with Bernie Sanders? It seems he is planning to go Ralph Nader in 2016. First, he attributed the low voter turnout to (paraphrasing), “People are frustrated with the two-party system.” Then, when Stephen asked if he was running for President, he answered something like, “I’m exploring the possibility of running for President in 2016, but we need to determine if it is possible to run a campaign against Big Money by depending on $20 and $40 donations.” I yelled at the TV, “Ask the man currently in the White House! He did it twice!”
Arghh!!
Sorry for the vent. I’ve been very inspired and cheered up by PBO’s badassedness since the midterms. I just hate when the left stabs itself in the foot like this.
Bernie Sanders is seriously deluding himself if he thinks he’s going to create and run on a third party. He has spent his whole career complaining about people and actually accomplishing little. My answer to his question about whether it’s possible to run on small donations is that it takes a special, brilliant, charismatic person to do that with a new vision for this country and genius organizational skills. Bernie needs to only to look in the mirror to see that this is not him.
You know Jackie, he reminds me of so many others on the left who talk but can’t get organized.
I remember in the summer of 2007, Dennis Kucinich did a backyard fundraiser where I lived. PBO had already announced his candidacy, so I knew who I would be voting for in the primaries, but it was only $25 to attend, and I thought it would be a cool opportunity to hear a candidate for president speak. When we arrived, Kucinich had printed up a statement of his goals and principles. I read it while I waited and was very impressed, especially with his support for universal healthcare. When the time came for Q&A, I stood up and asked, “How do you intend to overcome the money and influence of big insurance in order to get healthcare reform passed?” Rep Kucinich answered, “Well, my health plan covers chiropractic care, so if the other members of Congress need help in growing a spine, they can go get an adjustment!” I sat down and thought to myself, ‘Well, he’s useless.’
When the ACA came up for a vote and he was a late hold-out, you can bet I was remembering his foolishness and thinking, ‘Mofo, you better vote yes!” Thankfully, he did.
This is what separates PBO from others on the left. He is one of us, a true liberal and man of the people, but he knows that talking about the issues of the left doesn’t matter if you don’t actually get the changes you talk about accomplished and he is willing to work to do that.
I certainly hope that Bernie Sanders does not muddy the waters in 2016. I have noticed that Bernie Sanders doesn’t say anything different than most Democrats. I think most are against big money and for the middle class, but they are realistic enough to know that you can’t compete without funds. He says the same stuff over and over. He should just make a recording.
I watched that last few minutes of Senator Hoeven. What a liar he was. He claims this pipeline will give us energy independence. How? We are not getting any of the oil. How is that going to do us any good?
Just dropping in to ‘big up’ GoBrooklyn and LL also any one else who is having a health challenge..know that we are praying for you and sending positive feelings your way
I was just reading about that. People are saying she’s interested in running for Governor and positioning herself for that. She is getting on my last nerve!
She wants to run for MO governor and Jay Nixon is rumoured to be interested in running against Roy Blunt for his Senate seat.
Both of these 1% DINOS would find other work if I had my say.
Some of these idiots could do well to stick their heads out the train window, get it over with fast when the Peace Train comes whistling by, going in the right direction!!
I wonder if any of those who voted for him wonder about all the other things he [Mitch McConnell] could be doing with his time to make their lives better.
Hey Chips.
Congrats, COS!
Hey COS. Congrats on furst.

Congrats COS on First.
Hi there 57 and Jackie :-)
Hi GGail. How are you?
Congrats COS! Afternoon folks.

Don’t really like Kessler much but this article was pretty extensive and gave the president a Geppetto mark which is basically flat out truth.
I nailed him a couple years ago about a claim he made that repealing Obamacare would not do anything to Medicare…..
He actually responded that I was right…..I saved his e-mail but lost every one I saved when my PC crashed .
LOL! Well the guy is a partisan hack sometimes or he rubs me that way which is why I can’t stand him. However every once in a while fact checkers get it right.

Why is this?
Propaganda for the American audience. Although I think that others were badly injured in this incident….
What bothers me is that our news media is showing all the blood.
I don’t recall any of them doing that when people are ” massacred ” here in the US….
Trying to garner sympathy for Israel and acting like they are impartial is no easy task.

AMEN
Debbie Stabenow is a NO on Keystone
It is good to keep track. The vote will pass, but I want to remember closely those that vote NO. Not so much to punish those that vote yes, but to reward those that vote the wrong way.
My contribution to, say, Stabenow or King, may not match what the Koch Brothers can give to those that vote yes, but it will be much more heartfelt. And, in fact, if any of those Dems that vote yes think it will improve their standing in the eys of the Koch Brothers, they are sadly mistaken.
They need 60 for passage. I think they had 59 but I haven’t heard of any new “yes” votes today.
However, these cowardly Dem’s would love to veer right and leave the mess to PBO’s veto.
Dems are cowards. They would not have lost as many seats if they embraced the many accomplishments of PBO! Two come to mind NC and Colorado!
If the oil running through the Keystone Pipe will benefit only Canada, then why the hell do we need it to come through our land. Who else will it benefit? I heard something about those filthy rich Koch Brothers.
the 45 permanent jobs Keystone will create is the GOP’s idea of a jobs bill.
45 jobs, that’s all.
It’s a low number. It may be as high as 100, but very low number of permanent jobs.
Most of the building is already done - those jobs were temporary.
There is also the issue of the jobs lost: truck drivers, etc.
U.S. takes all the risk, environmental destruction, so China can get dirty oil and the Koch Bros. get even richer.
O.k. TODers, you’ve inspired me! I got an email this morning from DCCC asking me to “Stand with the President” alongside a list of his accomplishments (the nerve of them!), I wrote back with this:

Excellent - I will do the same. I might steal your words MadameSoph!!
It would be an honor Sue! Steal away! :-)
RIGHT ON! Great letter and so glad that you sent it.
good for you MadameSoph
Excellent comments. I have been so disgusted with the party as well.

“All this talk about his being a “lame duck” is a quack of s**t.” Japa21 you should tweet that!
Maybe when I get home. Work computer doesn’t allow me to get into Twitter.
Roger that!
Pete Souza took a photo of PBO & McTurtle talking at the WH Colonade & posted it to Instagram. Some funny person responded to Pete’s Instagram w/:
jamesskidmore
I didn’t know the President had a pet turtle
Here’s the link: http://instagram.com/p/vHhJpkNNHH/
lololol you know they were wrong for that. hahahahaha
Funny….but wrong. :-D
I do too!

:-) Just picturing a small recording device with Sen. Sander’s voice coming out of it making appearances on punditry shows.
It’ll be interesting to see what Bernie Sanders plans to tout as his accomplishments. Blowing hot air isn’t normally regarded as an accomplishment.
So true theo57. He blows a whole lot of hot air, because he is not held accountable now.
Where will the vote be televised?
CSPAN-2 I think.
Thanks.
I am watching Landrieu. Cannot stand her.
Sen. Boxer is calling ‘em out before the vote.
She doesn’t fool around!
No doubt about it. I like her. :)
Barbara Boxer just called Keystone XL the ” X-tra Lethal ” Pipeline
Voting has begun
$%#@*&!! You have to have cable in order to watch CSPAN online now! Infuriating!
tried that too, but just type c-span into a tab, and you’ll get the free access.
http://www.c-span.org/
Thanks very much, susanne!
you’re welcome! i was also cursing.
now i’m not sure this is the live stream. seems to be video of the earlier debate. aarrghak#!
Here!

I watched that last few minutes of Senator Hoeven. What a liar he was. He claims this pipeline will give us energy independence. How? We are not getting any of the oil. How is that going to do us any good?
Considering that the US produced more fuel this year than Saudi Arabia, this is an empty promise.
the pledge of allegiance.
They are voting now!
It will be very interesting to see how the losers vote…Begich, Hagan, Pryor…..etc. They were all in favor and they lost anyway.
It doesn’t look like the whole Senate is even there.
trying to avoid listening to mcturtle’s grandstanding.
It looks like Landrieu just sent Manchin on a mission….
Of course she had to go get him from the Republican side of the aisle.
Ugh !
Love how everyone walks away when Landrieu approaches them.
Just dropping in to ‘big up’ GoBrooklyn and LL also any one else who is having a health challenge..know that we are praying for you and sending positive feelings your way
cspan is playing games like everyone else.
They usually have the vote counter up on the bottom of the screen…
Just 20 Aye’s so far
Stabenow is talking to Landrieu. I think she is against it correct?
King voted no. He is the independent.
Pryor and Begich and Donnelly all Ayes.
Both Udall’s NO
Manchin a yes.
Warner was a yes?
Tester - yes
Freakin Tester voted yes.
If it pass, I hope President Obama veto it.
14 more votes to go.
Casey - YES!
Hagen - yes
McCaskill - yes
UGH!
McCaskill is also against the President’s immigration executive order.
Sen. Hagan still can’t get anything right. That is why she is soon to be ex Senator.
1 more no vote needed
THE BILL HAS FAILED/. Good news!
Woot …
41 NO’s
Bye Bye Mary Koch
Bill fails!
Thats gotta sting!
IT FAILS!!!!
Down goes Keystone! Down goes Keystone! Down goes Keystone!
happy dancing…..
I watched until the 41st vote. Keystone goes down.
PBO does not have to deal with this for now.
GREAT!!!!
Lesson: Never stick your ass out of the window of a train!
YES SIR!!
Never stick your ass out period.
Some people are prone to that sort of activity.
Some of these idiots could do well to stick their heads out the train window, get it over with fast when the Peace Train comes whistling by, going in the right direction!!
My, my. Aren’t you the blood thirsty one?
You know, sometimes I guess I am. :(
That doesn’t make you a bad “fella”. Welcome to the club. ;)
Was that Indian Chanting in the Gallery ?
It did sound like that. But there was also some people shouting something.
I hope so. That would have been awesome.
It’s a good time to tune in to TOD! FU, KOCH SUCKERS! (sorry…carried away!)
No apologies needed here, desertflower. Most if not all of us agree with you.
Is POTUS expected to comment on this vote tonight?
Awww, turtle has a sad.
So McConnell steps up and says the Keystone bill will be brought to the floor again in January.
WHATEVER, Turtle.
I wonder if any of those who voted for him wonder about all the other things he [Mitch McConnell] could be doing with his time to make their lives better.
New post.
http://theobamadiary.com/2014/11/18/the-future-rewards-those-who-press-on/
Ugh…the media still hoping PBO will ” deal” ( cave ) on the pipeline to other things passed.
After all this time, they still think this President can be manipulated by their stupidity.
That Jansen reporter just said the exact thing Linda.
