Iâm 5 miles south of the Ronald Reagan library, and itâs rained during all of the daylight hours (not raining now).
Great soaking rain, only rained hard for a few minutes around noon. Since itâs early in our rainy season, hope this picks up after the holidays in January — canât wait for our parched brown hillsides to become green again.

Yes, we are and good for us. Though there were rotten undercurrents in the US then and now, there were still good times, especially for the young.
‘Twas but a wee lass during the 1950s, but many of these references endured during the first part of the 1960s too, so definitely recognized most of them.
Iâve been to NYC only twice, the first time in 1969 with my mother, who was eager to show me the automats (her most vivid recollection of NYC in the 1940s I think) which never made it to San Diego.
And Hollywoodâs Golden Age — (my fav was Audrey Hepburn) — always admired the shorter stars like Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor.
I remember very well that my next door neighbor boy and I would be glued to the Superman TV show after school (must have been reruns because the George Reeve died in 1959, when I started 1st grade) — and then jump on the bed in an attempt to fly, which Iâm sure didnât please my Mom much.

I had meditated on Chris Rockâs comments for several hours before I wrote the letter to President Obama linked in the tweet, below.
I agree that President Obama should not lead a ‘national conversation on race,â because I do not think that Any black or brown person should lead that conversation.
That conversation needs to be led by white folk and participated in by white folk because until white folk face the truth and reconcile THEIR racism, the problem will persist.
My hope is that President Obama will challenge white Americans to take up the cause of #TruthAndReconciliation, and then just keep trucking with all heâs doing. He might give a Tim Wise, or a Nicholas Kristof, or Tom Hanks, or …. a call and encourage them to step forward and lead, but the malignancy of American Racism is for White Americans to admit and comprehensively vanquish.

I do not think that white America can rid themselves of white privilege alone…i think that it has to be a joint effort between all of us..i do think that the first step has to be for white america to acknowledge that racism and institutional racism exists…that it is not imaginary…and to listen to how racism manifests itself in the day to day life of people of color….
As Iâve noted before, pf, POC are the source of knowledge, insight, inspiration, encouragement and moral support that a bona fide #TruthAndReconciliation Movement in America will depend.
But, the malignancy of US Racism is a white America disease, and it will never be vanquished by anyone other than white Americans.
American POC are not the problem. They are the manifestation of how resilient the human spirit is in the face of centuries of systemic, unrelenting abuse.
White Americans willing to pursue #TruthAndReconciliation until US Racism is vanquished will need to emulate the resiliency of their POC brothers and sisters.

Frankly, Iâm amazed that a week ago Iâd never heard of Bryan Stevenson, and now I see him each time I turn. Thatâs good, as he has a strong and always timely message. It feels really good to see another leader who is not focused on himself gaining traction!
He is an inspiration, VC, for sure. Iâve listened to several of his presentations. However, as noted above, he and Rev Dr Barber and other fantastic POC should be and are sources of inspiration. Itâs for us white folk to do the heavy lifting of #TruthAndReconciliation because WE are the problem and have been for hundreds of years.
As a side note, 13+ Centuries of ‘institutionalâ enslavement of Africans is a stain on Islamâs legacy and is only now being challenged, largely thanks to Twitter & YouTube!
