Congrats Alison :)
TY for the excellent jobs report, NW.
Great information about the FANTASTIC economy! Thanks, NW!
Thanks, Allison.
My friend who retired from the government and sends out emails when he finds great information for his friends, sent me this from the New York Times. Everyone needs to read it and pass it on. Finally someone is standing up for the President. I am hoping more will do this now. So glad Krugman has turned around.
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/05/opinion/a-deficit-of-dignity.html I couldn’t find a name on it so I it must be the editorial board?
“We know President Obama wants a lasting deal on immigration, something
to make taxes fairer, a little help from a caveman Congress on climate
change. If he’s lucky, he might get some of the above. But one thing his
worst opponents have never given him, and probably never will, is
respect. R-E-S-P-E-C-T.”
My eyes are watery no. Just thinking about the gross disrespect he has had to endure while serving as President and delivering on his promises; and capably solving some the worst disasters and spontaneous global issues (Syria, Iran….); and Oh yeah, Bin Ladin is fish food. He has received very little credit for being right about the impact of the ACA on long term financial stability of individuals and the country. Neither was he universally praised for the stimulus and saving the auto industry…
This is soooo on point that it started me water works.
That was my reaction. I cried as I read it. What this President has put up with is such a testament to his soul and confidence of who he is. I am so thankful to be alive for his Presidency. I pray that at some point the msm will see the error of their ways. We know the truth and we know this President. We do have his back.
^5…….
It breaks my heart that my beloved President has to put up with this most vile of racist behavior
tweeted. thx mtm
Finally some one in the so called mainstream media told the truth, and nothing but the TRUTH!
Thanks NW for all this information about the ACA. I have 2 close friends who wouldn’t have any health care if it wasn’t for the ACA. Thank you PBO!!!
This was for the last post. Love all this economy news.
More and more people I know, not necessarily President Obama supporters but know I am, are coming up to me and telling me they have health care insurance, because of ‘Obamacare’, yes they say Obamacare, not PPACA.
You’re welcome, MTMarilyn.
England and Europe should have followed PBO’s lead. Even an economic rube like me knows that you have to spend money and to invest to make money; austerity may produce some savings, but it does now create growth.

Yes. I thought Luigi composed a lovely tribute and wanted to share that tweet of it with everyone here, Bill. Thank you.
If you live in the area or are visiting NYC …
Thank you, Nerdy. News that matters!
More and more folks working and wages and hours going up. Millions with healthcare. Really great news for America.
I’m no longer hoping that PBO will get credit from our brainwashed masses. MSM did their job well.
We also have to remember that these jobs are coming from the private sector. Public sector government jobs have been deeply depressed by congressional actions and Republican governors. If the public sector were functioning at the appropriate level, this economy would be hitting the moon and back.
CBS radio news said that public hiring is (or they might have said will be) picking up.
This week Ed Henry challenged Josh Ernest about DHS posting 1,000 permanent job openings, when PBO’s Executive Order on immigration was “temporary.”
Josh responded that DHS needs personnel to review applicants for compliance with the new standards — duh.
You’re welcome, Vicki.
November jobs report crushed it. But Pres Obama was chewing gum overseas!! Waaah!! Waaaaah!!
Thank you Nerdy for all of this great info on the jobs numbers! I am now convinced that the President is a superhero and Barack Hussein Obama is his alter ego.
By the way Nerdy, are you familiar with the organization Families USA? They are promoting the healthcare law and they contacted and interviewed me in regards to my letter to OFA about my gratitude for the ACA (the one you highlighted here at TOD). They asked if they could share quotes from the interview with the California Endowment in order to promote the ACA on social media. I totally want to do what I can to support the ACA but the release form they sent me seems way too broad and I am worried they could edit my quotes or put them in an improper context. I don’t want to give permission to someone to use my name and quote and then have them used in a way that might hurt the ACA in any way.
Are you familiar with Families USA and can I trust them to share my ACA quotes in a positive manner? Any thoughts you have would be appreciated. Thanks!
While, like Carolyn, I do not trust any U.S. group with ‘FAMILIES’ in their name, have you nosed around on the internet to check for their footprints? As per Wikipedia (yea, yea not reliable but could be a place to start):
‘Families USA is an American liberal non-profit consumer health-care advocacy organization.[1][2] It was co-founded by attorney Ronald Pollack, its current executive director, and Philippe Villers, the organization’s current President.[3] Families USA is an influential health-care lobbyist in Washington, D.C. and has taken positions on every major piece of health care legislation, including the Medicare Part D plan.
In a 1994 article, The New York Times called Families USA “an unusual advocacy group, for using a careful mix of statistics, hard-luck stories and staged political events, playing an important behind-the-scenes role in shaping public perceptions of the nation’s health care problems during the Clinton Administration”.[4]
In 2013 Families USA was given a $1 million grant by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for publicizing ObamaCare success stories. They are also closely tied to the Obama administration and the ACA enrollment group Enroll America.[5][6]
Families USA’s founder, Ronald Pollack, was Dean of Antioch School of Law, and argued cases involving food aid for low-income Americans before the Supreme Court. In 1997 Pollack was appointed by President Bill Clinton to be the sole consumer representative on the Presidential Advisory Commission on Consumer Protection and Quality in the Health Care Industry, where he worked on the U.S. patients’ bill of rights.
……………………………//
Thanks VC, yeah, I have the same associations with “Families” organizations as you do :-) After they contacted me, I did the Google research straight away, and found news articles announcing the grant to promote the ACA. I emailed my cousin (a lawyer) about the contract, but I was hoping someone on TOD was either working with or knew someone affiliated with or who had worked with Families USA, so I could feel more at ease.
I hear you, Mme Soph. I go for the ‘personal’ ‘family’ review every time too.
I’m tryin’ awful hard to get some kind o’ Christmas spirit……..

I still want some snow Admiral Chips!
YA, you can almost bet your naughty mat job that snow will come! There’s loads of time for that sailor. In fact, I’ll send you mine if you come up short.
Naw. I just like to see it falling. After that, ehhh!
I have similar feelings, especially when it’s falling on Christmas morning and the trees all have limbs coated in white and the drops are fluffy and beautiful. I can also enjoy a New Year’s Day fall. That’s more than enough, IMHO.
I’m with on that as long as I can stay inside with a hot toddie!
The inside piece is a given, YA. I appreciate winter best, including snowfall, when I don’t have to go outside at all! Even at this moment with nothing white in sight I can picture the beauty of fresh falling snow….through my window panes. Of course, I’m saying that in a whisper so as not to have the weather god mistakenly think I’m wishing for snow this early in December. ;) ;)
I hear ya……..Where’s everyone? Are you and I the only folks on the site?
It wouldn’t surprise me if they’ve all moved on to a new post. I’m in no hurry to catch up today as I haven’t much to add to the general conversation.
Nope. No new one yet.

As the protests continue around the country, there is one point that has been bothering me and that’s the role that each of us, as Americans, play in perpetuating stereotypes and condoning bigoted language. As a people, we tolerate a great deal of ugly, unspeakable behavior and casually hurtful language until something so horrific happens that we stop and say, “hey, this is wrong, how did it get this bad?” I feel that the transformation in this country has to begin with each of us, no matter how guiltless we feel ourselves to be. We have to ask why we tolerate a society that accepts killing minorities, vilifying women, dehumanizing rape victims or depriving millions of working Americans of a living wage. I’m not saying that we can turn the legal system around overnight or change corporate power or narrow-minded thinking, but we can change ourselves and make sure we not only speak out to those who offend us with their language and actions, but that we reach out on a human to human level to those who are hurting. I had a very good African American friend in high school. I thought we were close until I found out years later how much torment and exclusion she felt in those years. So I called her out of the blue and apologized for my obliviousness and we managed to reach a new level of understanding and healing. I think if we all take the time to actually “see” people, rather than pass them by. If we listen, rather than shut them off. If we actually work to seek out our common humanity, rather than focus on the “otherness” then we will not only be better as human beings, we will actually make a difference over time. President Obama has always asked us to work toward the ideal of a “United” States and I think that begins by each of us doing our best to feel united with other people.
Did you see this, JackieG?
A good thing to tuck away, relevant words through the years from our beacon, President Obama.
Our Country has never owned up to its treatment of Black People…there has never been a reconciliation….as Bryan Stevenson said slavery did not end it just evolved..and still even now…you have pundits wanting to decry that any thing wrong with either grand jury decisions…Jackie i think those interpersonal relationship[s are important to prevent the further spread of the disease of racism and white privilege…but the pillars of Institutional racism have to be knocked down as well…and also have to keep in mind…that there is a reason that we are still waging these battles…there is a class that benefits from maintaining the status quo…
“If we listen, rather than shut them off. If we actually work to seek out our common humanity, rather than focus on the “otherness” then we will not only be better as human beings, we will actually make a difference over time. President Obama has always asked us to work toward the ideal of a “United” States and I think that begins by each of us doing our best to feel united with other people.”
Jackie, that is a prescription for living fully. Thank you.
#TruthAndReconciliation
Hi Jackie and Bob, sadly, those who truly believe in the ideology of white supremacy are not at all interested in seeking out “our common humanity.” All they care about is maintaining white supremacy. That’s why they are so angry that we have a Black family in the White house, and a Black President who dares to act as President of the United States.
Nath, I fully understand what you and PF are saying. My point is that we begin with ourselves as a first step in changing society and its institutions. We are powerful if we work together, but we first have to hold a mirror up to ourselves.
:-) A little romance for ya! :-)
I want Audra McDonald and Brian Mitchell Stokes to play FLOTUS and POTUS respectively!
Okay they already found someone to play FLOTUS - Tika Sumpter. Still looking for someone to play POTUS.. :)
I want Regina King and Will Smith….to play P/FL-OTUS.
One date = making of a movie? Give me a break! Validation for my dislike of movies  - I don’t like most of their ‘plot’ lines/graph.
Don’t know anything about the person making the film, but I think it has definite possibilities, especially if he expands the movie to cover the backstory — Mr. and Mrs. Robinson’s lives would make for a great movie, but the indie director might not have the funds to complete a movie with such a wide-reaching scope. Sounds much less interesting if it’s just a couple of lawyers making plans for a date.
Been thinking recently why today’s movies have little appeal to me, and I think it’s because most of them are about the white elite — in my day (1960s and 1970s), people other than journalists were featured in movies.
In the article they forgot to mention that they stopped for ice cream (the shop now has a plaque outside that states they BO and MO were there and that they had their first kiss there as well; forgot the name of the shop). I would love to see a movie version of their first date.
I have yet to think of who should play PBO, but it better not be that doofus on SNL.
it was a Baskin Robbins. and then he told her she tasted like chocolate. OH MAMA!!
Swoon…. (Apologies to FLOTUS for momentarily imagining myself next to him in that Baskin Robbins….:-) )

Visited my daughter and her husband in Chicago right after Xmas last year. They took me on an Obama tour which I loved. What a great gift! Saw the Obama house on a drive by. My daughter’s husband was enrolled at the same law school Obama taught at so seeing the classroom he taught in and where he studied in the library etc was exciting. They took me to lunch at the Art museum like Michelle and Barack did on one of their dates. We could not find the ice cream store and plaque though. We were looking on the streets, but may have been looking in the wrong place.
Sounds like a neat trip. You must go back and find the ice cream store someday of course. Gotta complete the tour!
Maybe once the Presidential Library is up and running. :-)
PRICELESS…IF THEY MAKE THE MOVIE ABOUT THEM…HOPE IT IS ALL THE TRUTH…DON’T LIKE ANYONE MESSING WITH THE OBAMAS!

nice to see you LP! Sorry about your troubles hope things are getting better.
I know that @WashTimes is the Breitbart of DC journalism, but this seems HUGE (and underreported?) to me.
From the article:
“An agreement on the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) will roll back pension changes made in 2007 that made it possible for senior officers to make much more in retirement than they did during active duty. The pension hike was made under the rationale that it would boost retention.”
I think I  NM Senators the most:
From the article:
“Legislation aimed at jump-starting the Department of Energy’s efforts to spin cutting-edge research into the private sector and to upgrade how the federal government buys and manages information technology has been included in a massive defense authorization bill expected to move to the president’s desk by next week.
snip /
The tech transfer legislation would authorize new tools for the Department of Energy’s existing but under performing technology transfer office. It would push the DOE to create a new Tech Transfer Corps (T2-Corps) modeled after the National Science Foundation’s Innovation Corps. It would also adapt an existing public-private partnership model used by the Small Business Administration for economic development and apply it to technology transfer. This would increase investment in innovative technologies and enable start-ups to access venture capital.”
OK, I obviously don’t know how to make a heart appear here. :(
