          Thanks Chips. I didn’t know if it was Auburn, Alabama or where? This link was very helpful. I knew nothing about this incident. Police appear to have been pretty aggressive.

      I’m in northern California and have been to Auburn, CA which is in Placer County also in .northern Cal. Very small town and primarily European American. Didn’t see any peeps of color when I was there 10 years ago. Pop is under 15,000. So yeah, I’m pretty sure the shooter was white. It’s beautiful but as a black person, I wouldn’t stay there overnight.

        I went to school with a girl born near Chico CA and never saw a black person until her family moved to SoCal. She said it was a very racist town and only whites were allowed to live there. No Hispanics were allowed to be there when the sun went down. She told me this in 1974.

          Yep. POCs have to be very careful when travel outside major cities. In southern CA Riverside and San Diego counties have a race problem as well as the northern end of LA County - Clarita Valley, Lancaster and Palmdale.

            I was with friends in Riverside last night. Black professionals who belong to a HOA & with children in good schools. I have friends of comfortable means in each of the other places you mentioned. None have reported encountering problems. Not all areas are bad for POC.

              Believe me Gail, here in Sa Diego we have have had our share of police shooting and killing of unarmed black men, including a former professional football player.

                      My sincere apologies for not being clear in my response to you. I should have pointed out that my comment was specifically focused on the San Diego City Police and not on the entire San Diego County, or on the other Southern Claifonia counties listed by Idon. It’s true that the San Diego city Police has been open to reforms in policing. But all these reforms came about as a result of the protests that I participated in following the shooting to death of a number of unarmed Black male citizens. This is what I meant when I said that we’ve had our share of unarmed Black men killed by Police. I never once suggested that there were recent police shootings. Obviously, if you have experienced a different reality, with respect to San Diego, then we both have to let the facts speak for themselves.

      It’s sad we are conditioned by media reporting, but I concluded he was white as soon as I read this in the link CC shared ‘[neighbour], who lives across the street from the man, said Will had serious mental health problems and threatened his girlfriend on Thanksgiving Day.’ I figured if a POC had threatened his girlfriend in the hearing of a neighbour weeks ago, he’d have already been jailed.

      Well, Prettyfoot58, the President of NY Police Union openly declared a police war on Mayor de Blasio and all all the citizens who are demanding justice and accountability for the murders of unarmed Black men. I’ve said it before, but I will say it again: there are right wing forces in this country who are promoting a race war because they hate the fact that a black man was elected and re-elected President of the United States. Some of these people are armed to the teeth! Now they are getting a wink and a nod from prominent people like former NY Mayor, Rudy Giuliani, and former NY governor, George Pataki.

    “…gang crime has been cut in half over the last five years — a development that’s due, at least in part, to Beck’s Community Safety Partnership Police program. A dozen plainclothes officers are assigned to each of L.A.’s historically gang-controlled projects for five years at a time. They aren’t rewarded for making arrests. Instead, they’re rewarded for planting gardens, chaperoning kids to class, ensuring access to preschool and organizing sports teams. As a result, ‘Over the past three years, we had less than a handful of murders in our major housing projects,” Beck says, “and every one of them was solved by community interaction. That never used to happen.’”

        Yes, the article opens with that incident, which occurred only two days after Michael Brown was killed, and was front page news on @latimes for several weeks.

        Not saying that the LAPD is perfect, but they’ve done a 180-degree turnabout in the 23 years since the Rodney King beating.

        Gaining trust of the community is key, and the incidents of gang violence have substantially decreased in recent years — Los Angeles used to have homicide rates that rivaled/exceeded Chicago and Detroit.

    Nerdy, these tweets are a fascinating snapshot of what’s tragically wrong and startlingly right about America. The NYPD union leader is doing everything he can to pour gasoline on an incendiary situation and the police officers who are publicly dissing their mayor are helping feed the flames. There aren’t words foul enough to describe what I think of these characters or the truly evil politicians who are exploiting this event. Meantime, thoughtful people around the country are coming forward to express their sensible concerns and to recommend both calm and mutual respect and the Brown and Gardner families are, once again, demonstrating true class. At the same time, in the land of farce, the Christie family continues to trip over all ethical boundaries and pocket the cash. And all of it summed up on twitter and collected in one place. Now that’s a feat!

    The opening segment was Scott Pelley in Cuba.

    The young people of course are thrilled that their lives will be so different than their parents and grandparents.

    The Chicago Orchestra is there on an exchange program, and they are forbidden to bring replacement musical supplies to the Cuban orchestra whose instruments (such as reeds for the wind instruments) are vintage 1950s. They don’t have music stands and cannot Xerox music because there is no Xerox machine at the University.

    Only 5% of Cubans are connected to internet, one of the lowest percentages in the world. Fidel first allowed cell phones in the country the same year that Barack Obama was elected to his first term as President.

    Scott Pelley saw American flags flying from buildings in Cuba (which would not have been allowed earlier in the week).

    There is no putting the genie back into the bottle, and the Cuban people now have esperanza (hope).

    Thanks again, Nerdy Wonka, for sharing these great tweets. I am so glad so many people are pushing back against the deceitful and hypocritical people who are using the tragic killing of two policemen, by a mentally ill black man, to justify the police murders of unarmed Black people. As far as I am concerned, the reactions by people like Rudy Giuliani and George Pataki clearly show that for these so called leaders, “Black Lives” DO NOT “Matter.” Anyone who believes that the lives of policemen are more precious than the lives of ordinary citizens they are sworn to “serve and protect” is wittingly or unwittingly encouraging a police state. People who murder police men and women should be held to account; conversely, police men and women who murder unarmed citizens should also be held to account. This is what JUSTICE -now being demanded by the Protestors in Ferguson, New York, and across the country — is all about.

    Let me just say Rudy Giuliani has always been a lying pathetic racist. The NYPD union leader is in the same boat. He is despicable as well. They were waiting for this opportunity to blame the Mayor and protesters so they can do they dirty work on an even higher with total justification.
    But let me not leave out the Court Officers union President who made himself Preisdent for life of the union with no objections whatsoever. The Correction System is a cesspool of racist degenerates as well.
    I am not saying all of these officers are bad but the good ones need to speak up now!
    Too often you hear them voice their complaints after they have retired for fear of being ostracized or put on desk duty for not going along with the “good ole boys” believe it or not in NY. The racist cops in N.J., Conn. and Upstate N.Y. is not a myth. Some who are openly KKK members and do not care if you know about it.
    If you ever get a chance to sit in the criminal courtroomsof N.Y. you will see firsthand for yourselves the disrespect and hostile attitudes that is portrayed by the racist cour officers. Like. I said not all, but I am praying the consciousness of the good ones prevail and they start speaking up to counter act what racists Pataki, Giuilani, Lynch and Quirk are trying to do as if they really are concerned about the community.
    The NYPD union President is full if shit especially when white cops “accidentally” shot Black cops in the line of duty. They try to cover it up and make it go away.

    I am truly sorry for the families of the cops that were killed but this is totally on the man who was disturbed not on President Obama, Mayor Di Blasio, or Rev. Al Sharpton. I hope this exposes and the works will see what slime this Lynch is. He needs to be voted out also. They keep voting these racist union presidents to continue to do their dirty work.
    At a time like this,I pray that Black, Latino and Asian officers who know the truth are not turning their backs on the Mayor.
    If that was my son or daughter, the union president would not be able to make that call.

        Bella, he was a viper as DA, Mayor and husband.
        There was a large amount of cocaine supposedly “lost” under his watch as DA.
        When he was going full throttle to clean up the Fulton Fish Market he never once proclaimed Italian-on-Italian crime.
        He totally disrespected his wife while living in Gracie Mansion by dating another woman in public.
        Let’s not even mention 911 which he though was going to be his meal ticket to the WH.

        I am disgusted with this pathetic fool I could not tolerate watching him on TV.
        He thrives on these racist tactics by NYPD. They covered up a lot of his mishaps.
        911 exposed his coward ass and I hope this will take him down from the public scene.
        I am surprised that Chris (fat mouth) Christy has not chimed in yet.
        Too much money on his plate?

        Dudette, it is glorious. Yardarm shared this one as well with our TOD family a while back. I did this one as part of my senior recital. It is such a beautiful piece. She reminds me so much of my wonderful young college days in my music courses. I love this one. I also go back and listen to this beautiful young lady every moment I want to be lifted up by the young performers. What a joy to behold and hear.
        Thanks for sharing again, MR. I was over listening to the Christmas section of the Messiah performed by the Atlanta Symphony. Great evening.

    Chips, Nerdy, and everyone who has been posting, thank you so much for being an island of sanity in this insanity. It is heartbreaking to see some use this tragedy as another excuse for inciting hatred and more racism.

    Thanks to everyone who is posting XMas music. I love listening to so many of the old favorites, and different versions of some of those.

    Took my daughter and grand-daughter to see the Nutcracker this afternoon. It was the first ballet for my Lexi. I used to take my daughter every year when she was young but it has now been awhile since I’ve seen it. I must admit I only saw perhaps half of it. The rest of the time I couldn’t stop watching Lexi’s face as she absorbed everything happening on stage. She is seven, and it is a wonderful age. I must admit she has her grandma wrapped around her little finger. But she doesn’t take advantage of it, just makes every minute with her a source of joy for me.

    I am so late to everything today/ tonight… these tweets are so good and yet so sad. That we have to feel this way in this day and age still, breaks my heart.

    Am up for the night, tried to sleep, couldn’t and thus am doing the last thing on my Christmas list: yes I am writing my Christmas cards 3 days before Christmas. How the heck did it get so late? What’ve I been doing all month?

      You are not the only one awake! Got up so late, I’m still at it. You also are not the only one who was still writing Christmas cards today … but I finally finished tonight. When I told my granddaughter, she said “Way to get it done.” And then under her breath, with a smile, she said, “Three days before Christmas.” Ha.
