One last share (today anyway) of these great quotes from new Greek PM Alexis Tsipras. #Syriza pic.twitter.com/YgMkEx4BHw
— Andrew (@UtopianFireman) January 25, 2025
As noted in the previous thread, besides Patti Smith, PM Elect Tsipras should consider adopting a tune or two from Dropkick Murphys (I think they’d approve :) )
Congratulations on first, Bobr! This is fantastic news. The EU countries can learn from our experience that austerity is the wrong path. We would be doing so much better if the GOP had started cooperating 6 years ago.
Good. You have a right to express your views on a health issue without being subject to intimidation/harassment. It’s these self-righteous folks who are now part of the Disneyland measles problem.
Nerdy and Chips, I agree Dropkick Murphy is great.
GOP KNOWS that the musicians whose work they use won’t approve.
They are trying to co-opt what real people actually like—which is not them or Ted Nugent.
Europeans should have listened to PBO; even an economic dunce like me knows that you need to spend money to make money. It takes more than simply cutting back to mend one’s finances. Thank God that we have a president who stood strong and smart and guided us out of the mess. Hopefully, the EU nations will make better decisions and begin to climb out of their financial mess.
I wish I was a youngin today, she would have been a good role model for my self esteem. I had a petite frame like hers and felt I was ugly, dark and skinny. I never wore clothes that flattered my figure, they were always big to hide how skinny I was (I don’t have that problem anymore). She is a true role model for young women and especially AA girls.
After Hurricane Sandy when I had to walk up and down 20 flights while juggling a flashlight plus other items I bought a contraption that looks like what miners use:
very bright LED lights on a headband. tested and ready. But hoping I won’t need it.
My hiker hubby uses those on the trail. It’s actually come in handy here at home….looking for something behind furniture, etc. hyoid to have on hand for lots of reasons.
Black Workers With Advanced Degrees, White Workers With B.A.’s Make Roughly the Same
by Julianne Hing, Friday, January 23 2015, 4:44 PM EST
You’ve heard of the racial wealth gap, the racial employment gap, and surely also about racial job callback disparities. Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics offers an updated look at another dynamic of our racialized economy: the racial income gap.
As in: In 2014, while white workers 25 years or older with at least an undergrad degree took home median earnings of $1,219 per week, similarly aged and educated Latino workers made $1,007, and Asian workers made $1,328 per week. Black workers with at least a college degree, meanwhile, posted median earnings of $970 per week.
The racial income gap is so pronounced that black workers with an advanced degree made $1,149—roughly the same as white workers who had only a bachelor’s degree ($1,132).
For more on what this kind of economic inequality means for the country, read Kai Wright’s in-depth look at young black men’s struggle for employment. As Wright wrote last June, “This is an inequity that grows from tangled roots—historic labor market discrimination, ongoing residential segregation, stubborn racial biases among employers. But it’s also one with consequences that stretch out beyond the men themselves, and that will linger long past today’s troubled economy.”
Great article. While the article focuses on disparities in income even when AAs have more education, we still need to focus on education for 21st century jobs which will be in STEM fields. Black media needs to shift it’s focus from crime reporting to achievement reporting.
I think we need to stress more entrepreneurship in the minority and AA community. There are fewer AA owned businesses than there were several years ago. This is the only way that this disparity will end.
Do they even know where India is? Would they know it’s a sub-continent? Would they know English is one of their major languages? Would they know the historical background for that fact? Do they know what the other major language is, or that India has at least 100 languages spoken in the country?
Just responded that he deserves it, if he did - and listed a few of Pres Obama’s top achievements. If anyone deserves time off - it’s President Obama. Unlike the GOP…
Dragging this over from end of the previous thread… cuz reasons.

More music from the State Dinner: Stevie Wonder ~ Part-Time Lover
This selection is PRICELESS! They actually put this on the program and played it?!! For real?!
I can’t stop laughing! [Clearly a case of just enjoying the catchy tune without understanding lyrics or song meaning]
I would love to have seen the faces of all the Americans in the room when this song came on! ROFL! :-D:-D:-D
I bet they chose Stevie Wonder because they know he’s a favorite singer of POTUS & FLOTUS. They just chose the wrong song out of the many in Stevie’s songbook :D:D
Ha! Watching the SAG Awards. They added a segment paying tribute to movies that bring light to “basic human concerns”.
Hmm, wonder what brought that on?
As you yourself posted this morning (and Meta too):
Michelle Obama arrives in India, in @BibhuMohapatra's dress

And as I responded:
@BibhuMohapatra’s dress looks so much better with the amazing matching coat, accompanied with a beaming smile and a handsome (sigh) escort in an exotic locale.
Thanks to Chips, NW and everyone else who has posting pics from India! Love, love, love the overseas photos and sure won’t find many of them elsewhere. Once again, PBO scores on new deals that will improve the US standing in the world, and the Repubs could care less. What a bunch of idiots. I rarely pay too much attention to clothes, but Michelle’s dress and coat when they landed in India simply was amazing! It’s so sad to think of boring the WH will be when these two no longer are in residence. Until then, I intend to enjoy every minute!
For everyone on the East Coast, stay safe the next couple of days. We have warmed up here in North Texas, the sun has been out, and had a great time at the park today with the dogs and grandkids. We’re hoping for 70 tomorrow!
Forecasters are predicting -30 wind chill in NJ in a couple of weeks, which may affect the middle of the country as well (no details on forecast yet).

“Following the blizzard, a dangerously cold Arctic outbreak waits in the wings, with wind chills forecast to plunge to as low as minus-30 degrees Fahrenheit in New Jersey during the first week of February.”
From my Minnesota days, the cold usually follows the snow. We were down to 25 last weekend with 25-40 mph winds. Had agility trials in an unheated building, and couldn’t keep my little Papillon warm enough. Ended up crating her in the car and running it periodically so her muscles didn’t get too cold between runs:-) My family in MN keeps reminding me how spoiled I’ve become, but it does get cold here with little time for our bodies to acclimate.
SAG Awards giving Debbie Reynolds a lifetime achievement award. Can’t believe that’s just now happening.
She says her favorite role was The Unsinkable Molly Brown. Turns out that was my favorite of her roles too.
Bill R., I totally agree with you.
The beauty comes from within. So natural and effortless.
She just glows naturally.
I love vintage clothes. I would love to see her in every style going back.
She and our FLOTUS can handle that. Speaking from one woman’s perspective(mine).
They wear the clothes, the clothes do not wear them.
Simply put….they own it!
As noted in the previous thread, besides Patti Smith, PM Elect Tsipras should consider adopting a tune or two from Dropkick Murphys (I think they’d approve :) )
Bob, I am happy to see you are as excited as I have been about Syriza. First we take Athens.
Then we take Madrid. (Paraphrasing Leonard Cohen.)
Yes, Vicki, and then we take Milan, Paris, Berlin, Brussels, London ….. :)
Yes We Can
Congratulations on first, Bobr! This is fantastic news. The EU countries can learn from our experience that austerity is the wrong path. We would be doing so much better if the GOP had started cooperating 6 years ago.
Good Evening, Everyone :)
TOD - you ROCK!!
Would 60 minutes have EVER given Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid a platform together on their show? The answer is no.
Well.
Sounds like a threat…I would report that person.
Yes.
I spam blocked him/her.
Good. You have a right to express your views on a health issue without being subject to intimidation/harassment. It’s these self-righteous folks who are now part of the Disneyland measles problem.
Actually, I just unblocked her and blocked her again and filed a stronger report.
BRAVO.
Ha! Didn’t even notice the family had moved on. Was coming to post this. Good thing I looked first. :-)
This woman always looks good!
So true…so TRUE! :)
It’s an odd dress but she makes it happen big time.
Wow - she and FLOTUS sure know which clothes to wear. I love the dress
Nerdy and Chips, I agree Dropkick Murphy is great.

Yup.
HF2, the answer is HELL NO!
Nobody watches 60 minutes any way.
So they can change it to 60 seconds for all I care…..click!
LOL really it should only be 60 secs
Will FLOTUS attend the Republic Day Parade? Is that what it is call? Will we be able to watch any of it? What time does it start?
Thank you Bella - these are my questions too
If I get the answers I will let you know, if you get the answers let me know, okay.

Now, I’ve heard reports that he’s a pro-Putinist.
That would be odd, LL, but will soon know. In any event, I Hope he got the message my tweet was meant to convey (beyond the congrats).
In case the original tweet was ‘lost in translation,’ maybe this will be sufficiently clear ….
she is so beautiful…graceful…she has so much presence….

[Sigh!] Perfection!
truly
She looks nice.
I wish I was a youngin today, she would have been a good role model for my self esteem. I had a petite frame like hers and felt I was ugly, dark and skinny. Neat idea! Might have to get me one of those for power outages here in the summer when we have our “wrath of God” thunderstorms
Very wise words.

Well it didn’t take them long to come up with a way to drag the President into it…
Damn!
Means they have no idea that he’s in India right now….
Of course, when they find out, they’ll be like “see? told ya.”
Do they even know where India is? Would they know it’s a sub-continent? Would they know English is one of their major languages? Would they know the historical background for that fact? Do they know what the other major language is, or that India has at least 100 languages spoken in the country?
Neither does 90% of the US media - they aim to keep fools like this one dumb and stupid

Pfft. Get out of the way silly models. This is how you wear it.
