I think Secretary Hagel’s departure is for entirely personal reasons and that President Obama would never have asked him to step down and wishes he could have stayed on the team until Jan 2017.
I don’t know about you, but this “speech” kinda gave me the same heart flutter (and vision of the future) when a certain skinny guy with a funny name was first introduced to national audience at the 2004 DNC. Just saying.

I will never understand the election of Arnold Schwarzenegger. He is a complete moron. The only thing I can guess is that people are absolutely enthralled with the notion of celebrity. He was a complete disaster, a terrible governor who cheapened the office and left us with a huge mess. Thank goodness Jerry Brown stepped forward. He has done the miraculous since he took office.
Yes, that may have been part of it, especially since it’s a famed family of Democrats. Angelides was also not a strong opponent in the second election.
Would have to add - in the past 40 years, republicans have not been known for having smart, educated, intelligent candidates for high office - quite the opposite. I do think those running the campaigns like it that way.
