hahahaha - Rand Paul - in my country (and probably yours) all of the major stores gave up on their own brand account cards in favor of mastercard/visa - saves them the accounting chore & lets someone else carry the non payment risk. I used to have an account with my local pharmacy and newsagent - they gave it away as well in favor of the credit cards. Do hope Paul invests in bitcoin - or is he the “do as I say” type of person?
Well, not quite here. Stores still have their own brand cards. But, they’re usually serviced by Visa/Masterdard/Citbank/etc.
Which is exactly the same as closing your store card - couple of our stores do the same - it’s called the “Store X card” but is a mastercard or visa. All the billing and chasing and bad debt is handled by the credit card companies or their associated bank. What annoys me - the merchants pay a small % to the credit card company for the privilege and now many of them pass this fee on to the customer - so the store pays NOTHING. Guess that is good GOP policy.

Oho, TS, our stores are headed the same way here! And, like you I’m still resisting. The only good thing so far is that the grocery stores haven’t yet joined in, but the other stores all seem to have several self-serve stations open while having only one offering service. Since I always carry a book when I go shopping, I just join the service line and read while I wait. Have to say though that I don’t normally wait long as other shoppers seem not to mind paying for the privilege of serving themselves without any compensation.
I always tell the server that I am one of the reasons he/she still has a job.
