EricFive’s on point commentary about cops in Ferguson

No one knows who shot those cops, all we have is speculation and attempts to deflect blame from the epidemic of cops killing unarmed Black males. The “tension” between cops and minority communities is a decades old problem (police as occupying force instead of public servants). The recent spike in police killings of unarmed Black males is a symptom of the larger issue of White racial anxiety which is reaching dangerous levels. The cop in Atlanta who murdered the unarmed, naked veteran who had mental problems should open up a lot of eyes to what is going on, i.e., Black lives don’t matter to these folks. Being Black is becoming a capital offense in this country. How the response to an obviously mental ill naked man is to use deadly force (not a baton, not a taser, not calling for backup) tells me that they are looking for an excuse to murder Black people (more restrain is shown toward a fucking alligator walking through a golf course than a Black man walking down the street). By the “logic” displayed by the Atlanta cop, the proper police response to a Black man threatening to jump from a rooftop would be to call in the snipers to shoot the man. There will never be any semblance of “equality” in this country until a Black life is deemed by society to be of equal value to a White life. This has never been the case in this country and it most certainly is not the case today. All of this racial shit stems from the mental gymnastics that the institution of slavery required of a White society that had/has an almost pathological need to see itself as “good people” no matter what horrible shit they did. You cannot enslave folks you view as your equals. You cannot enslave a race of people you view as human and still see yourself as “good person”. Instead, to maintain a positive self image, the slaveholder has to convince both himself (and the slave) that the slave is “inferior” and DESERVES the horrible treatment he/she is forced to endure. That the slave is not HUMAN. This inability to see Black people as fellow human beings, the inability to understand the grief of a Black parent mourning for a child needlessly killed by the police is the same strain of racist/White supremacy that allowed for the enslavement of Black people in the “land of the free”.

    Can I make you smile?
There is very little news today, so I thought I’d close out this edition of Saturday blogging by doing my best to see if I can make you smile.

The big question of the day is: Where is Vladimir Putin? If he’s not really in Martin’s basement (call me skeptical), then Max Fisher’s idea is that we round up the kids from “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego” to go look for him.

Have you ever run across the work of Russian photographer Elena Karneeva?

Happy Sunday morning, TS. That ‘looking for Putin’ pic made me smile. The video clip at the end of SP’s link also made me smile though it had nothing to do with Putin.

The thesis is not done and probably won’t be until December. I am just lucky today because my daughter went to spend a week-end with a friend in LA. She deserves the break. So I have today and tomorrow at home to enjoy TOD fully, and may be now and then make a comment. I still read TOD everyday at work. We plan to get her a computer at the end of April because I had medical expenses for me and my sister to take care of first.

Great collection as usual, NW. I do have a couple complaints about a couple though.

What is wrong with being the lawyer that defended Timothy McVeigh? Somebody had to, and being that lawyer should not be considered a negative. Just like, if SAE wants to file suit, somebody has to be their lawyer. Defending a racist does not a racist make. Defending a terrorist does not a terrorist make.

This isn’t really a gripe, per se, but why is Chamberlain always spoken of in pejorative terms. Reality and a reasoned look at the situation at the time is that Chamberlain had little choice but to give in to Hitler at tat time. Nobody was militarily strong enough to take Germany on and trying to start a fight with Germany would have been a totally losing proposition. Chamberlain’s deal gave England and Russia time to gt stronger.

Without what Chamberlain did, Germany would probably have won WWII.

    • 47 Nerdy Wonka
      March 14, 2025 at 9:07 pm

      1. You’re welcome.

      2. Nobody is griping about the racists being represented by McVeigh’s lawyer. Everyone should have legal representation. I believe the underlying point is the irony and also the fact that the SAE organization/members don’t seem to realize that their racists actions is what is at fault. Not the reaction.

ICYMI from the glitchy thread earlier….

“Happy birthday, Einstein! But this is also Pi Day, and a very special Pi Day at that. Why so special?
The date is 3/14/15, the first five digits in the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter…..

….And—get ready for this—at 26 minutes and 53 seconds after 9 a.m., we will pass a date and time represented by the first 10 digits of π. Very exciting! If you miss it, there will be one more chance at 9 p.m. After that, you’ll have to wait another 100 years for that auspicious moment to happen again, assuming that we will still be writing our Julian calendar dates as we do in America…continued”

I am not much of a Clinton fan but the way the GOP are going after her every last public and private action - they are in fear of her being the dem nominee. Probably the only reason they didn’t attack PBO early was because they thought he would never be the nominee - silly them. The SCOTUS has turned US elections into Money A vs Money B.

Has ANY OTHER SOS been asked for records of ALL travelling companions. Would a judge ever say this must be provided. US security be damned is the current activity of the GOP and their money friends

99ts, I agree with you whole heartedly….but there is a part of me that believes the Clintons love all of this attention, and the GOP are trying to take the spotlight off the #47 traitors dumb asses.

I am just so numb when it comes to the Clintons. If POB has to clean up their stupid shit so that they can come out saying that she is running for president and then do everything to distance themselves from PBO for the racist Blue Dogs, again. Then I just don’t care about her e-mails.
If you are going to wear the pantsuits, then woman-up! If not put on the damn blue dress and go play grandma!
I cannot tolerate her and Billary.
Why the hell would she or him even want to come back to the WH to live? What has she got going for her except that she is a woman?
WE, the people do not need Billary having a score to finish and surely, do so by trying to diminish PBO once he gets a couple of Cuban cigars(thanks to PBO)

I don’t trust them. They will not go away quietly.
The GOP really wants her to run because they know they are Arkansas southerners at heart. Billary let that be known in 2008.
POB gives him the mic and right away he wants to take credit for everything.
I can only imagine how high the ego meter would rise if Mrs, Clinton gets him back in the WH. Ugh!
      He is an embarrassment.

Go ahead and tell the Truth, Dudette. Sadly, many of the voters (or should I say eligible voters) they are hurting don’t bother to show up to vote. Almost 2/3rds of eligible voters did not bother to vote in the 2014 mid-term Congressional elections. Consequently, we have a Congress that represents a minority of eligible American voters.

“In describing a worldwide conspiracy bent on removing him from office, the tired, flailing Netanyahu has inserted himself into the questionable company of Mubarak, Chavez and Kirchner.”

“The round of interviews that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu granted over the weekend is stark proof of his current circumstances. A matter of a few days before Tuesday’s election, Netanyahu appears to be under pressure, nervous, tired and confused. Like a pilot who loses altitude and finds himself in a tailspin, he does everything that he can to regain control of the plane. But at least according to the final polls in the campaign - which according to law cannot be published after last Friday - the prime minister’s crash landing with reality appears unavoidable…

Netanyahu was interviewed over the past week more than during all of his last six years in office. It seemed as if it was impossible to turn on the radio or the television without hearing or seeing him. At one point, it was as if the prime minister himself didn’t remember who he was talking to or what he was talking about. For example, on Radio Darom, he declared his detested rival, Yesh Atid’s Yair Lapid, as a natural partner in his future government. Likud spokesmen quickly corrected the record, stating that he meant Avigdor Lieberman of Yisrael Beiteinu…continued”

I am especially angry at both Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, two Presidents I strongly supported, for their glaring failure to forthrightly condemn these 47 traitors. Also, unless I missed it, I am angry that former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, the supposedly Democratic front runner for the 2016 Democratic Presidential nominee, has NOT strongly condemned these 47 traitor/senators.
