“The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“The arc of the moral universe … bends toward justice”
Dr. King said, and no one could have reminded us better
But even he, with his Dream, had no idea
There’d be Attorneys General like Eric and Loretta.

When I see these two together, I’m reminded of all those who bitched and complained about PBO not having a whole lot of black folks working for him, but see, he shows us that he picks the best of the best to work beside him…AG Holder and now AG Lynch.

      Talk about Black Power!

    Great tweets, Nerdy.

Of course Sepp won re-election. He’s bribed most of the federations. But, don’t think that the indicted, once they make it to the US, won’t start singing. Our prosecutors are quite good at twisting the legal thumbscrews. And Putin can go fuck himself over “interference”.

“The 25-minute documentary outlines how this Caribbean island nation, tucked a few dozen miles from the South American coast and long a refining hub for Venezuelan oil, is struggling to expand tourism but do so without degrading a prime asset drawing visitors — its coral reefs. In the film, marine biologists from the 60-year-old Carmabi Research Institute, Secore Foundation and Waitt Institute explain why the island’s geography and other factors have fortuitously preserved remarkably vibrant reefs in some spots despite decades of pollution, cruise ship traffic and coastal construction. “I think that Curaçao has been really lucky so far,” we were told by Ayana Elizabeth Johnson, a marine biologist who did her doctoral research on fishing practices around coral reefs on the island and now runs the Waitt Institute, a conservation group helping Caribbean islands develop “Blue Halo” marine zoning plans designed to allow communities to “use the ocean without using it up.”…

…In the film, Johnson says that shielding the most important reefs from fishing and runoff is a critical step or the island’s luck will run out: Curaçao has some of the healthiest reefs in the Caribbean, and that is not because of marine reserves, that’s not because of strong pollution controls, it’s not because coastal development hasn’t happened,” Johnson says in the film. “It is because of great currents that flush pollution out, it’s because the north shore hasn’t been developed just because it’s not the type of typography that lends itself to that, so figuring out how to transition from luck to deliberately protecting the reefs is the [challenge] right now.” The first Blue Halo initiative was launched in Barbuda in 2012 and recently produced pioneering ocean zoning legislation there. Curaçao, along with Montserrat, signed agreements with the institute in February…continued”

“Bart Sheppard and Luiz Rocha were going the wrong way if they wanted to find a reef. Off the coast of Anilao in the Philippines, the biologists were diving—and diving, and diving—deep into the murky waters. Propelled by scooters, torpedo-like machines like the ones Sean Connery and Nicolas Cage used to infiltrate Alcatraz in The Rock, they dove 100 feet down. Then 200, then 300. It got darker and darker until they at last reached a reef clad in blackness, 400 feet below the surface, swarming with invertebrates and fishes illuminated by the divers’ beams. There was even coral, which shouldn’t make a lick of sense. A coral reef is supposed to be a bright blue, glimmering world, with flashy fish and maybe a sea turtle or two. It’s an ecosystem absolutely dependent on the sun: Corals have a symbiotic relationship with photosynthetic algae, which need sunlight to thrive and pump out nutrients for their hosts. But not deep reefs like this in the so-called “twilight zone,” the waters between 150 and 500 feet deep. They operate with little light or, if waters grow murky, no light at all. Yet a reef still flourishes. These deep reefs are some of the least explored ecosystems on Earth—as in, almost entirely unstudied. …

…Your typical bright, shallow reef begins with the sun, which feeds algae, which feed the proliferating corals that in turn provide shelter for fish, which attract predators like sharks. The whole chain is dependent on the sun. But deep reefs clearly thrive in low light or even darkness, so how do their ecosystems still churn? Well, in a way, the sun still powers them…It’s not that it’s particularly bad for the human body to briefly be 400 feet below the ocean surface. Where it really gets dangerous is in the ascent. Do it too quickly and you’ll get the bends—the excruciating formation of nitrogen bubbles in tissues and blood—so Shepherd and Rocha had to stop at predetermined depths as they ascended…Things get even more complicated when divers try to bring live fish back up with them, because fish don’t respond to the same decompression schedule that a human does. They have an air-filled organ called a swim bladder..“The swim bladder is an analog to our lungs, but it doesn’t have a connection to the environment, so it’s just a bubble inside the fish,” says Rocha. “And as they come up it increases in size unless the gases get diffused back through the bloodstream, or unless you use a needle” If you don’t, the fish’s eyes bulge out as the swim bladder shoves its stomach out of its mouth. As you can imagine, this is somewhat traumatic for the fish…continued”

“A Polish architect by the name of Krysztof Kotala has released designs for an audacious project with his design firm, 8+8 Concept Studio: a tennis facility located entirely underwater just off the coast of Dubai, where spectators could choose to watch the games below them, or the sea life above them through a massive glass dome…

…Why Dubai? Well, Kotala says, “[The court] should be something where there is the tradition of tennis. Dubai is perfect for this idea.” Dubai, which is notorious for superlative construction, is already home to the world’s highest tennis court, atop the Burj al Arab skyscraper.

The proposed location for Kotala’s’s project (probably one of the world’s lowest tennis courts) is just next door..continued”

Mark Levin says First Lady trashed America. Levin rips First Lady Memorial Day Commencement speech to Grads. Now I listen to that speech from beginning to end and I don’t recall the First Lady trashing America. It was another great speech by our wonderful First Lady. I know Levin is another one of those right wing racists conservatives, so anything he says does not surprise me, not one bit.

Apparently, surrounding a Mosque filled with people praying by an unprovoked armed group is NOT a State nor Federal Crime?
Is a place of worship not like one’s Kingdom?
Do We The People of these USA no longer have a right not to defend our Place of Worship and Our Homes? What about the RIGHTS of the worshipers to Worship in PEACE?

Where are the State’s Armored Cars, Snipers, National Guards? Who are the protector of and for the Mosque Worshipers?
