After receiving a visit from First Lady Michelle Obama during its Off-Broadway run, it appears that the red-hot Broadway ticket Hamilton will welcome President Barack Obama to the musical theatre revolution.
The New York Post reports that the President is expected to attend the July 18 matinee of Hamilton as the culmination of a weekend trip to New York City. The new Lin-Manuel Miranda arrived on Broadway July 13 after an acclaimed, sold-out run at the Public Theater. It officially opens Aug. 6.

Hay O’Malley, we already know that white lives matter, now we have to convince people that black lives matter just like white lives.
And on CNN they were talking about what Donald Trump said about John McCain. I will email Fredericka Whitfield of CNN and tell her that I wonder why the Republicans remain silent when Trump were running around everywhere saying that Barack Obama was not born in this country. None of the Republicans stood up with outrage, nor did the media, and some of the Democrats act like they usually do, like cowards.

It’s about time Daily Kos got real.
Yea, I watched the stream. First, I could not BELIEVE that the moderator turned the mic and the stage over to the AZBlackLives folk. And once he ceded control, he never got it back. Of course, having seized the stage, the nominal AZBlackLives spokesperson had no plan. It eventually became clear that even she had no control over the protest on the floor. The forum moderator did not have a clue about how to deal with the situation. Finally, a woman with the Netroots organization came on stage and calmed things enough to continue. Bernie had to threaten to walk to get the moderator to even attempt to control the forum. Yes, all mics were hot. (THIS is why Hillary was not there.)
The only person who impressed me was O’Malley. He was grace under fire. He stood respectfully - and silently - through the whole fiasco. He attempted to address the four part question raised by AZ BlackLives and was not permitted to respond. (IMHO demanding that others parrot back your rhetoric does not tell you that they hear, understand and support your position.) O’Malley’s response to critiques of his administration in Baltimore were solid. He had just talked about how to make police review boards work when the demonstration started. I wanted to hear more from O’Malley. So, the upshot for me is that my interest in O’Malley is renewed.
As for AZBlackLives, they - like many supposedly radical progressive organizations - seem to think that “courageous” political action is attending an event to which you were INVITED by ALLIES and trying to reduce the event to chaos. If you want to impress me with your courage, take that tactic to the AZ Governor’s office or the AZ legislature- that would be courageous.
and #BlackLivesMatters” folks decided that they were not going to be ignored

I knew that it would Jacqueline. Like I always say, Bernie Sanders or EW does not appeal to me for president, because they do not have a full grasp of all of the issues. EW is tuck on wall street and Sanders stuck on inequality. All of these issues matter to me, but there is more that comes with the job, like foreign policy, immigration and other issues.

Seeking tighter controls over firearm purchases, the Obama administration is pushing to ban Social Security beneficiaries from owning guns if they lack the mental capacity to manage their own affairs, a move that could affect millions whose monthly disability payments are handled by others.
The push is intended to bring the Social Security Administration in line with laws regulating who gets reported to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System, or NICS, which is used to prevent gun sales to felons, drug addicts, immigrants in the country illegally and others.
A potentially large group within Social Security are people who, in the language of federal gun laws, are unable to manage their own affairs due to “marked subnormal intelligence, or mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease.”
Sasha Obama, Biden’s granddaughter forge friendship
For half of her young life, 14-year-old Sasha Obama has found a friend in Maisy Biden, the vice president’s granddaughter.
The two teenagers, who will be freshmen this fall at the elite Sidwell Friends School in Washington, were thrust into the public eye at a young age. Sasha was 5 when her father launched his presidential run in 2007. Maisy was 6 when her grandfather ran for the Democratic nomination, losing to Barack Obama but becoming his vice president.
They have more in common than famous forebears. They’ve played basketball together since 2010. The president even coached their basketball team for a time. He has predicted Maisy will play college ball in a Division 1 school and possibly the WNBA.
The girls love soccer, too. Both were in Vice President Joe Biden’s entourage July 5 at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015 championship match in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Sasha joined Maisy and other members of the Biden family attending the finals. Malia Obama, 17, the other presidential daughter, did not make the trip and missed seeing the U.S. women crush Japan, 5-2.
Maisy draped an American flag over her shoulders during the game and Sasha, sporting eyeglasses, wore a U.S. flag lapel pin. The two-day trip forced Sasha and Maisy to miss a summer-league basketball game, Joe Biden told reporters.
Biden, like his boss, lauds his granddaughter’s talent on the hardwood. “Maisy’s a real athlete, I mean for real,” he said after the soccer finals in Vancouver.

Money flows to Madigan district while state dollars tight
At a time when Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner has frozen state spending and cut the budget, a $35 million state grant got paid in full last month that helps build a 1,500-student school in the district of House Speaker Michael Madigan.
The grant went through thanks to a longsighted legislative maneuver by Madigan and his fellow Democrats, who tucked the money away more than a year ago so that no governor could touch it: They sent it to the office of Secretary of State Jesse White, a party loyalist.
Unlike other grants Rauner halted in the budget he inherited from Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn, the $35 million sought by the cash-strapped Chicago Public Schools was never in jeopardy because it sat safely in the account of another statewide officeholder.
White’s office signed a contract this spring with the Chicago Public Schools to turn over the funds, saying he had little choice except to make sure the money got spent properly. By contrast, $40 million sent to the State Board of Education for Downstate and suburban school maintenance initiatives got swept up by Rauner to help ends meet before the new budget year began.
The money trail provides a case study into how Madigan deftly works the system to get what he wants — enabling the money to reach schools in his district and those of his allies even as others saw funds from the state disappear. The results underscore Madigan’s ability to stay not just a step ahead in the political game but to see several steps down the road.

When the Confederate flag was removed from the South Carolina statehouse Friday morning, Gov. Nikki Haley spoke solemnly of the nine Black churchgoers who were shot to death less than a month ago at Charleston’s Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. “We have all been struck by what was a tragedy we didn’t think we would ever encounter,” Haley said of the horrifying massacre. Before signing the bill with nine pens that will go to the families of the victims, she called those who were murdered during Bible Study at the historic church, “Nine amazing people that forever changed South Carolina’s history.” The Governor referenced the “grace” shown by the nine families, when they forgave the white gunman. She said their grace helped usher the state toward this long overdue decision.
The assassinations at Emanuel A.M.E. Church, followed by the public forgiveness from the grieving families, were similarly cited by several South Carolina lawmakers as their reason for voting to remove the flag. What they are really saying is that Black Deaths Matter, not our lives. Black people in the US are only deemed worthy of action in their death, not in their life. In a year that has seen thousands in the streets, young and old, black white and brown, saying to the nation, “Black Lives Matter”, the painful and dangerous message coming from South Carolina this week is: Black Deaths Matter. That’s the painful and dangerous narrative being developed out of South Carolina; it’s a narrative that the oppressed of this land have known for a long time: Only Black Deaths Matter. Our nation is capable of doing the right thing – such as taking down the Confederate flag in the year 2015, a flag that represents the racist, immoral, unconstitutional defense of slavery and Jim Crow – but only when Black deaths happen and are met by a response deemed acceptable by those in power. Ever since this flag was raised in 1961, to send the message that South Carolina would not honor equal protection under the law, tens of thousands of small and large protests have not been enough to move the power brokers to take it down.

Obama, daughters spend weekend exploring New York City

It’s inevitable: At some point, teenage kids just aren’t that into their parents anymore.
Parent Barack Obama, who happens to be president, set out to combat that trend by hanging out with his teenage girls on a New York overnighter.
The trio, plus some of the girls’ friends, seemed intent on packing a lot into their 24 hours together in the city.
But no one was out of the hotel door too early on a rainy Saturday morning after zigzagging around Manhattan in dad’s motorcade into the wee hours on Friday night.
They finally emerged about 11:30 a.m., as the sun broke though, for a quickie stroll through Central Park, joined by the president’s sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng and her husband, Konrad Ng. Next it was lunch in Gramercy Park at Upland, featuring California-inspired cuisine.
Then they were off to a matinee of “Hamilton,” the hit hip-hop Broadway musical about the Founding Fathers.
The Obamas had lingered past 11 p.m. over dinner at an Italian place in Greenwich Village on Friday and took an after-hours tour of the Whitney Museum that lasted until midnight.
A New York weekend was Obama’s idea. He often laments that his girls are less interested in spending time with him now that they are older. But the concept gets a little complicated, of course, when dad is the president.
Obama’s every move requires massive security precautions that tie the bustling streets of New York in knots, and he can attract throngs of onlookers in an instant.

LePage Asks Maine Supreme Court: Did I Really Botch 65 Vetoes?

After the Maine legislature rejected his vetoes of some 65 bills, Gov. Paul LePage (R) turned to the state Supreme Court on Friday for a final determination of whether he botched the veto process. The move sends the controversy from the legislative arena to the legal one, where a decision against LePage from the state’s highest court would deal him and his leadership a humiliating blow.
“Now that the Legislature has refused to consider the vetoes, my constitutional duty as Governor to ‘take care that the laws be faithfully executed’ is in question,” LePage wrote in the request to the court. “I must know whether my vetoes stand.”
