No Check, No Sale? Where Do Gun Retailers Stand?
According to federal law, anyone who purchases a gun at a federally-licensed firearms dealer must
undergo a background check. In most cases, the background check is completed within minutes, but
in rare cases a check can take longer than three days. In those rare cases, there is something in that
potential buyer’s background that is uncertain-something that requires a little more investigation.
This was the case with the Charleston shooter. But due to an NRA-backed loophole in federal law, the
firearms dealer had the legal authority to sell him a gun after three days had elapsed—even though
the background check was not complete. The shooter used that gun in his attack on the Emanuel
AME Church on June 17, 2015.
The FBI only gets three days to complete potentially life-saving background checks before a gun
dealer has the authority-not an obligation-to complete the sale. Shockingly, between 2010 and
2014, 15,000 prohibited people were able to purchase a gun because a background check was not
completed. And while some states have laws that give authorities longer than three days before
moving forward with a sale, most do not. Some retailers, like Wal-Mart, have instituted policies to
prohibit the sale of a gun to a customer who hasn’t actually passed a completed background check.
We have reached out to the top firearms retailers in the United States to see whether they have such
a policy in place, and we are providing this list so that consumers can see which retailers are putting
public safety first with a “No, Check, No Sale” policy.

My guess is that this has a lot to do with DNC/Clinton preferences.
I just don’t like him at all. I’ve felt this way even before his potential No vote on the Iran Deal. I can remember when we were trying to do a comprehensive immigration reform bill he went on TV and said that he was Okay with a piecemeal type deal. He makes me sick. I’m sorry but he doesn’t seem to represent me and my values. I’m going to try and figure out how to start a petition to have Durbin installed as the new leader next year.
Schumer drives me nuts. When he has the mic he’s always wasting time, giving deference to Republicans. He’s happy to blame his party when it suits him. That is NOT acceptable in a Leader in the Senate. Not acceptable at all.
Vicki, Donna Dem, and 57 give some thought the Patty Murray of Washington state. She has been a strong supporter of our President and core democratic values.
If there is a fight, and unfortunately I don’t expect the Dems to fight like they should, seniority says Durbin, and he’d be good. I personally would prefer Murray, but Durbin is very good and it would be “his turn”. That being said, Dems don’t fight that way.
