Democratic Senators who need to hear from us to vote for #IranDeal: Schumer (may be a lost cause, but keep trying), Menendez, Cardin, Casey, Wyden, Warner, Stabenow, Reed, Peters, Heitcamp, Donnelly, Coons, possibly Cantwell, Booker, Blumenthal

Thank you for the inspiration Judith ….

Everyone, please forgive if you see me harping on the simple, glaringly obvious reality that, all the hoopla aside, the US Senate & House only have 2 choices:

      1. Support the President and rigorously enforce JPOA
      or
      2. Crash JPOA - to whatever extent overriding the President’s veto would represent - and thereby enable Iran to fast track to a bomb while enjoying effectively no international sanctions.

#2 leaves only one option to stop Iran and if the US exercises that option (along with Israel) it will achieve pariah status that will make what GWB did pale in comparison. Just think what it means to target a site with stockpiles of 20% + enriched uranium, for starters. It’s never been done before and no one knows what all the consequences will be, but they will be horrific for sure.

      • 25 Bobfr (@Our4thEstate)
        August 12, 2025 at 11:07 pm

Also, please press Senator Reid every day. Don’t let him escape the fact that we know precisely what the options are, no matter how any of them try to dance around the issue.

        bbl … sup prep :)

I just don’t understand these Democrats. Supporting this Iran Deal is not supporting President Obama, it is supporting no war. If Iran does not keep it’s word then American will do what they need to do to keep them from getting a nuclear weapon. But we should at least try peaceful means first. The Republicans and Schumer want another war, but I was hoping the Democrats would have learn a lesson from that disaster in Iraq and Afghanistan. No one is turning their back on Israel, we are turning our back on another war.

I share this because of the names mentioned - nice to see these particular folks getting a chance to *relax* in each other’s company!

    Dinner Out in Edgartown
    2 hours 6 min ago

The President and First Lady are enjoying a night out Wednesday, dining with friends at the downtown Edgartown restaurant Alchemy.

According to the White House, the Obamas are having dinner with former attorney general Eric Holder and his wife, National Security Advisor Susan Rice and her husband, and former U.S. trade representative Ron Kirk and his wife.

    ……………………….snip ……………………………

Earlier in the day, the President hit the links at Farm Neck Golf Club in Oak Bluffs with golf partners Alonzo Mourning, Ray Allen, and Cyrus Walker. According to the White House, Mr. Obama also called former President Jimmy Carter to wish him a full and speedy recovery. Mr. Carter revealed on Wednesday that he has been diagnosed with cancer.

This is the second time in as many days that White House excitement has come to Edgartown. On Tuesday, Mrs. Obama and the couple’s daughters had lunch at Atlantic Fish & Chop House, a few blocks down ….//

It sure is, Annieb! I was also quite pleased to be reminded that Susan Rice gets a break too (when PBO does). [There have been times I’ve wondered about her youngsters and how they feel about one parent traveling so much.]

I traveled alot for work - daughter told me in later life how much she hated it - and I always thought she and Mr 99 had a great time when I was away. We see what we want to see in many different parts of our lives.

Democracy is based on the promise that equality of voice can balance inequality of resources.
That indicates that this question about the influence of big money in politics vs the lack of civic engagement is absolutely central to our understanding of democracy.
