Night owl chat - Madness

As a young boy growing up in Washington Heights, I, thanks to my surroundings, had a wide range of musical tastes. I learned to love classical on my own. My brothers got me into everything from the Beatles to Elvis Costello. My friends inducted me into b-boy culture. And MTV was where I learned of Madness.

Their videos opened a new world to me, far away from my barrio. London! Pork pie hats! Ska rhythms! It was awesome.

And, as if I couldn’t love them enough, when I started watching real football, and fell in love with Chelsea FC, I learned that Suggs, their frontman, is a devoted Blue. So, for tonight’s night owl chat, some Madness.

wtg LL - I think every member of the Obama family reads TOD - whether they follow the twitter or not. Keep writing - you will have a book of essays to present to the Obama Library in 2017

On a completely different topic - I believe Trump is running for VP - the job, that like Sarah Palin, he thinks is a breeze. His latest on agreeing not to stand as an independent, confirms my thought. This will be his reward for withdrawing from the GOP race.

Disagree 99. He’d never settle for 2nd place. He is changing his position on this because he has to in order to get on the ballot in some of the primaries. My guess is that his lawyer advised him that these requirements have been upheld. And of course, if he loses the primary he can always “change” his mind and at that point they cannot be enforced against him.

You know much more about the rules than I ever would Foxfire - maybe I’m thinking this way because he is so beginning to sound like the 2008 GOP VP nominee.

He must surely realise he doesn’t have the knowledge/skills to be President, so I was thinking VP may be his desire. Perhaps from your knowledge base, he is more like GWB than Palin? Let his VP make the policy! Yikes.

I figure Donald Trump would never want a lower spot. His ego would never let him. I think he really believes he is the smartest guy around because he is rich. He is arrogant due to everyone bowing to him. He surrounds himself with yes people that agree with everything he says and does. He thinks he can treat the presidency the same way. Dangerous and delusional!

I always liked the song, Our House. At first I didn’t realize who they were until I saw the last one.

How ’bout we follow up the Madness with a bit of mellow?

Love all three pieces in this set, but the ad hoc improv (2nd song starting around 8:00) blew me away. WOW,

Real Football, you know, throughout my life I’ve had to swallow some things that were not necessarily good for me. I’ve had to bite my tongue to make peace possible. No more!! I will not stand by and watch as Football is bastardized down to the level of soccer. In America we play Football. Now I have nothing against soccer, I’ve played that game on many occasions when I was in elementary school and we had a blast. It takes a special type of person to play soccer, I’m just saying, I imagine a person that loves soccer also loves fine wine, and a nice drive in the country. Where I’m from we don’t do bicycle kicks or play friendlies, no, we don’t get down like that, we play Football. Man against man, strength and tenacity. It is said that the meek will inherit the earth, the meek ain’t inheriting nothing on the Football field, Real Football that is.
