Good morning TODville. I am so excited about this trip to Alaska. Wish I was there at the same time.
We finally have a beautiful morning here in Missoula. Lovely rain yesterday cleared the air. But the smoke will be coming back in later today. So many fires around. Homes destroyed and evacuations. Some people have finally been allowed to go back to their homes. I hope this cool weather helps slow the fires.
Haven’t yet heard how many have lost their homes. But not as many as they thought which is good. We are just thankful the fires haven’t come close to us. You have a great day jojo.
Me too Marilyn! I’m hoping Jim Wright is around. I had forgotten Denali was officially MT. McKinnley. No one in Alaska calls it anything other than Denali. Native Americans want to rename Devils Tower to Bear Lodge. It’s not going so well for them. Others have called it Devils Tower for so long as our First National Monument. Bear Lodge is a cool legend though.
Sitting outside and smelling a little smoke. Are the wildfires still really bad?
I had wondered about Devils Tower and what the Native name was. Hope they keep pushing for it. Haven’t heard today how the fires are. Know that the rain and this cool weather helps, but there are so many all over the northwest. Are there any close to you?
I also hope the President speaks to Jim Wright. I so appreciate his work. He knows his stuff!!!!
What? Bear Grylls used to be on cable networks and he would put himself in remote areas and use his survival skills to make it back to civilization. It’s another reality show but you really learn something about nature and survival skills like how to start a fire with limited tools, when to drink water from a stream or leafs after a rain, and how not to freeze to death or die in extreme heat. Now that he has added celebrities I wonder if it’s real. He got in trouble a few years back when it was found out he was staying at hotels or something when he was supposed to been roughing it. I didn’t know he reached prime time….
I love that show!
Nature girl that I am.
The ratings will hit the ceiling because of PBO and people not knowing.
Thank you, Mr. President….again!
Congratulations, Don!
“Keep On Trucking”
The thing that’s extraordinarily cool about President Obama is he never looks like he’s trying too hard. The stuff he does never looks like an overreach or pandering. He’s naturally curious and open and fearless and it shows in everything he does.
so true meta, truly likes to take in the beauty of the world when there is soooo much ugly that’s thrown at him and that he has to deal with. I like it when he travels to other countries and takes in the beauty and the not so beautiful to reach out to people of all walks of life.
Meta, he put the “K” in cool.
When you are naturally curious, respect goes always hand-in-hand.
Just love this President for giving a lot of damns and no more fucks.
4th Quarter, Baby!
CarolMaeWY, I am still traumatized.
So much so that I cannot even look at the so-called smarter one.
It was extremely difficult to listen to the other one(Intentionally not writing that last privileged name)
You feel me, right?
Yes. I got you!
I feel they are going to steal, lie and cheat like they have never done before to get the smarter one in.
They were caught off guard laughing and clowning with this fool Trump with the birther issue that the Clintons released.
Now, DT enjoying this to help save his bankrupt ass.
He just might do a “Herbert Hoover” move and tell everything with tapes!
Who knows for sure what he has?
They were all running to stay in his bankrupt hotels and marveled over the grandeurs.
Good for their dumb asses always attacking our President and his family when PBO was the only one saving this country they so love.
When are the attack dogs coming for DT?
I hope after Labor Day when it gets real!
Yes I do. The Supreme Court screwed this country in 2000; And when Bill was able to be sued. A lawsuit like Paula’s should never have gone forward until after his presidency. He admitted after he left office he thought about it. Just think of the change in history that made if the Presidency would have been more focused. I’m no fan of Bill but it was wrong. I really don’t want those old stories repeated either.
If you have access to someone’s FB page or your own, Jim Wright has many different Alaska photos that he has taken. He has probably put some of them on Twitter too but I enjoy his FB.
PBO just keep knocking things out of the park. The response to this is hilarious. I’ve never even heard of the show but of course will watch. On a more serious note, as always PBO is looking for ways to engage the native youth.
“[Secretary] Jewell will have a key part in a new Arctic youth initiative to be launched Monday. Five of 20 young people have been selected so far for a program aimed at getting young Native people to help understand scientific challenges in the Arctic, engage with leaders, and help engage other young people nationwide.
The “Arctic youth ambassadors” will engage with panels at this week’s Arctic conference, and will have a chance to meet with Secretary of State John Kerry Monday, Jewell said. “And they will be working to engage their generation of young people in both understanding the issues of climate change in the Arctic and helping us develop long-term solutions.”
It is a realistic view of any diplomatic solution, especially one as complex as the Iran Deal. I’ve read his full statement and find it cogent & sensible. In particular, ….
“After several weeks of analysis, briefings, and extensive conversations with constituents, I support this deal not because it is perfect or without risk. I support this deal because it is rooted in science and anchored by verification. I support it because it decreases the odds we will need to use military force in Iran and strengthens our position to do so if we ever must. I support this deal because it is the best means before us today to keep nuclear weapons out of Iranian hands.”
Others who have given much of their carriers to the pursuit (successfully in many instances) of nuclear non-proliferation share a similar mindset to Rep Kennedy …
The President himself, on more than one occasion has readily admitted the deal is not perfect but because of the inspections regime it imposes and the technology that will now be used as a crucial component of the verification process, it’s the best deal we could possibly get.
So, I don’t think folk who include the caveat that the deal contains risks, i.e., is not ‘perfect’ are in any way dissing the President. They’re just as realistic as he is and they are admitting it, up front, to their constituents.
And Pres Obama, SoS Kerry and SoE Moniz all have said that the #IranDeal isn’t perfect.
That is what happens when there are P5+1 are involved. Negotiation and Diplomacy……Not all will get all they want.
My prediction is right after the Iran deal is locked in place and VP Biden is off and running or close to it, then this lovely thing will brighten the bitter GOP’s Gov’t shutdown antics.
Carol Rosenberg is still covering Gitmo, but has been more cautious lately. Some of the idea, such as building a new facility in continental USA are not so thrilling.
More prison facilities? that’s what we need to spend $$$$ on?
No—but ending Gitmo might be worth it.
It will be done. POTUS will use his CIC Powers and possibly, Military or Fed prisons to house those who can never be released. Doing things the Hard in the Age/Era of Pres Obama has become the norm. Having a 4th Branch abdicating their Role in our Form of Gov’t has made Obstructionism by GOPers a constant dysfunctional tactic.
President Obama fulfills the mission statement of Judaism better than any Jew I know.
Tikkun Olam (heal the world) is a phrase PBO has used. Lots of people say this very solemnly. Then they act the way Bibi does.
Restoring the name of this peak to Denali heals the world. A little piece of the world. Tangibly.
I love President Barack Obama. Sometimes I just have to say it.
Vicki, say it from your chest!
My younger son says that means say it like you mean it! Don’t hold back for nothing!
Our President is so focused it makes me sit up and pay attention to everything that is going on around me to make a difference.
Regardless how small it is. I wake up with great expectations.
This is what hope and change looks like!
Thank you Mr. President for showing and giving respect.
What I love about President Obama and his administration is that they constantly keep everyone off guard, its like you have no idea what they will do next. Here we are talking about a mountain in Alaska and word leaks out about possible action on Gitmo, you have no idea what’s going on in Whitehouse and to tell you the truth I love it.
Something happened to President Obama as a young boy. Something very important. He learned how to respect and appreciate people who are different from himself. Not in the generic, abstract way. In a deep and humane spiritual way. It’s in his bones, it’s in his soul. You see it everywhere he goes. He allows himself to be touched deeply by the experience. And he won’t let anything disturb that sensibility. Amazing.
PBO did all the heavy lifting and fixin’ during his first term while other Presidents try to do it in the 2nd term when they are lame ducks. PBO don’t give a “Bucket” to lame duck status and is going to go out of office kicking ass and taking names…..
After MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell tried to get Bernie Sanders to attack Hillary Clinton’s emails, the Democratic candidate said, “This campaign that I am running, let me reiterate is not against Hillary Clinton, or anybody else.”
At least the Democrats are not viciously attacking each other, so that it can be replayed in ads later on. Even HRC doesn’t seem to be attacking her opponents.
Hello TOD.
Nice breeze, with high humidity and partly cloudy in my neck of the woods.
Congrats to Don on his Au :star:
Thanks for TOD. It amazes me that the Righties are once again freaking out that Pres Obama is doing his job as POTUS.
So the :bear: is going on a Wilderness Adventure in AK? Buck It
p.m. carpenter had a post today about Alan Grayson, who is still “undecided” and has “concerns”, straight out of GOP & Bibi’s lies. And Carpenter was especially pissed at Chris Hayes for not calling him on it, for fear of alienating the rabid “progressives” who support Grayson.
What a sorry state of affairs, all these jackasses.
There was a comment on Carpenter’s site, and the womain nailed it: we have to call out our own crazies like Grayson, or we’ll end up ideologically bankrupt and nuts like the teaPublicans. A good point I thought.
Grayson is a two-bit self-promoter with possible hair plugs, not that there’s anything wrong with hair plugs, I mean Chuck Todd looks like he has hair plugs. What were we talking about again, oh yeah, Grayson is a self-promoter.
I agree with Carpenter a good 90+ percent of the time, but always enjoy his writing: http://pmcarpenter.blogs.com/p_m_carpenters_commentary/2015/08/alan-graysons-phony-concerns-about-the-iran-deal.html
Broadway actor Kyle Jean-Baptiste has died after falling off his mother’s fire escape. He was 21.
Jean-Baptiste made Broadway history as the understudy for “Les Miserables” character Jean Valjean. When Jean-Baptiste stepped into the role, he became both the youngest actor to do so and the first African-American actor to play Valjean on Broadway. When he was not filling in as Valjean, the actor played the roles of Constable and Courfeyrac in the musical.
The company of “Les Mis” released the following statement on Jean-Baptiste’s death: “The entire ‘Les Miserables’ family is shocked and devastated by the sudden and tragic loss of Kyle, a remarkable young talent and tremendous person who made magic — and history — in his Broadway debut. We send our deepest condolences to his family and ask that you respect their privacy in this unimaginably difficult time.”
“You saw this historically sometimes in the African American community, where there’s a difference on policy and somebody starts talking about, well, you’re not black enough, or you’re selling out,” Obama said, adding that he doesn’t believe in impugning the motives of those who disagree with him. “And that, I think, is always a dangerous place to go.”
The hole is getting deeper and deeper for the Republicans on this issue. What happened to his “stupid party” comment? He is the epitome of stupid for making a statement like this.
Full disclosure: I actually forgot about this interview until now. I am not a selfish person, so I’m posting it here for your entertainment pleasure :-)
Palin started out the segment by saying Trump “made the sacrifice to hit the campaign trail” and said Trump fans could be considered either “Trumpeters” or “Trumpservatives.”
She and Trump talked about the economy, the tax code, taking care of America’s vets, and of course, the lamestream “gotcha” media.
Palin asked Trump where he got the “guts” to take on Jorge Ramos as he did, and Trump said he didn’t like Ramos “ranting and raving.”
They also talked about Trump’s love of the Bible, and the entire interview ended with Trump praising Palin as a “terrific person.”
I heard he was asked about his favorite verse in the Bible and could not or would not give one. She called it a “gotcha” question from the media. The Dumbald said that it was too “personal” to share that with the public….oh brother. I read the excerpts, her voice and his face makes me want to hurl :):):)
HOLA!
¡Felicidades!
Congrats on furst Don….you’ve been on a roll here.
Hey Don :)
Tres cool! Congrats, Don!

Good Morning mtmarilyn. So glad your neck of the woods got some much needed rain. Hope many will find their homes still in tack.
Have a glorious Monday…
Haven’t yet heard how many have lost their homes. But not as many as they thought which is good. We are just thankful the fires haven’t come close to us. You have a great day jojo.
Me too Marilyn! I’m hoping Jim Wright is around. I had forgotten Denali was officially MT. McKinnley. No one in Alaska calls it anything other than Denali. No but we have a fire alert. We get your smoke if it’s really bad.
Mtmarilyn, I cannot wait to visit Alaska. Then Cuba. Next Morocco.
Then Glory!
I sure hope the President goes to Cuba. That would be the cherry on top.
Congratulations, Don! Very happy to have our President in the land of Denali.
I’m guessing the Secret Service is not too thrilled about the Bear Grylls adventures.
What the hell is the Bear Grylls adventures? I’ve never heard of it.

Or moose hunting from the sky.

I’m sure Bear Grylls is a nice guy and has a nice show, but if isn’t “Naked and Afraid” I aint watching.
You might miss something. 😉
Oh I’m going to be watching because I love me some President Obama.
I know you are. 😎Your too cool.
I don’t know what the hell naked and afraid is, you mean there is a show called naked and afraid. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sometimes, they use heavy tractors…..used in Construction
The U.S Open has begun. Venus Williams will be playing soon. Serena will play this evening,
Enough with the “its not perfect” bullshit already, can you fucking guys support the President without being mealy-mouth about it.
Totally. Wimpy Dems who would not be in office if POTUS hadn’t helped them win in 2008 or “12.
No, Don. No, they can’t.
Totally agree! None of the ones using these phrases have a backbone.

Likely not merely because PBO is busy with other stuff :)
Other Ukraine updates in the sidebar ….

PRICELESS!
Thanks Bob for posting the SchumerMobile
Hang on to your hats, TODers!
So in other words, shit bout to go down.
When I read the phrase: “Executive Action”, I think you may be right.
Not slowing down. Heh.
This administration does not lose legal battles, President Obama’s “Executive Actions” always stand up to legal challenges.
My prediction is right after the Iran deal is locked in place and VP Biden is off and running or close to it, then this lovely thing will brighten the bitter GOP’s Gov’t shutdown antics.

Dear Mr President, I know you know about this. We love you.

You nailed it. He is living Tikkun Olam.

I urge everyone to read the president’s book, Dreams From My Father…….it explains so much about who he is…..
You’re speaking to the Choir caryl. I don’t think there is one single long-time TOD person on this blog who hasn’t read all of PBO’s books.
:) :)
I even got the children’s book he wrote, I believe Of Thee I Sing and my kids are almost 27 and 24.
Me too :-)
Beautiful!
Beautifully stated Vicki - thank you
Yep!
The thought just made me giggle too :-)
PBO did all the heavy lifting and fixin’ during his first term while other Presidents try to do it in the 2nd term when they are lame ducks. PBO don’t give a “Bucket” to lame duck status and is going to go out of office kicking ass and taking names…..
