Governor Chris Christie has told the leader of New Jerseyâs National Guard to slim down.
The order comes after the Pentagon reprimanded Air Force Brig. Gen. Michael Cunniff for his weight, and dodging fitness tests, CBS2âs Christine Sloan reported Tuesday.
Christie and Cunniff have been seen together in the past reviewing troops, but now New Jerseyâs National Guard leader is scrutiny himself for not being in shape and flunking, and then skipping, physical fitness tests.
Christie, who appointed Cunniff and is his boss as the stateâs commander in chief, didnât want to talk about the situation on Tuesday.
But in statement, the governor, who has struggled with his own weight for years, including undergoing Lap-Band stomach surgery, said Cunniff didnât tell him he was reprimanded.
Now, Christie is giving Cunniff 90 days to trim down.
âEvery individual in the military has to be combat ready ⌠and he has to meet the physical standards, just like any other member of the U.S. Military,â said retired U.S. Navy Lt. Steven Rogers.
Cunniff admitted in a statement he didnât meet military fitness requirements, saying, âI have struggled with weight control my entire adult life. However, I do recognize that military members and leaders, like myself, are held to a higher standard.â
He said heâs now training and getting help from a nutritionist.
Rogers said Cunniff should have been a role model.
âLook, youâre a leader, youâre a general, you have a responsibility to your troops to make sure that youâre physically fit,â he said.
One college student, training to be in the Air Force, told Sloan he was disappointed in Cunniff.
âOne of our Air Force core values is integrity, so heâs kind of lying. That breaks his core values,â NJIT student Michael La said.
Itâs unclear how much weight Cunniff needs to lose, but his waist size was reportedly four-and-half inches over what it should be, according to his last fitness test three years ago, Sloan reported.

Fascinating - I thought of Pope Francis as a native speaker of Spanish, but his *English* sounds like that of an Italian …
Might be that he learned English from native-Italian speakers.
Believe his Dad was born in Italy, and his Momâs family also had Italian roots.
Pope Francisâ Family migrated from Italy to Argentina. He is also fluent in Italian and of Course, Latin. So it is No Wonder that his English is heavily tilted with Italian intonation.

I was in my car this afternoon driving to an appointment and I came across Joy Ann Reid on the radio. Now I was on a station that I donât normally frequent and I donât know if she was filling in for someone but her topic was quite interesting. She had on an AA spokeswoman for Bernie Sanders. This woman went on to explain what a Democratic Socialist is and how Bernie is wonderful and blah, blah, blah.
Once she was gone Joy had two other AA panelist on and the question she asked them was if Bernieâs campaign was viable and they each gave plausible answers for and against but then Joy went on to explain to them what she sees on twitter. She explained that she often witnesses “dustups” with Black Twitter, BLM, Obama supporters vs. the Feel the Bern crowd. Joy said that from what she sees these people are not feeling the bern. She asked her guest what she felt Bernie needed to do to get AA support since he is polling so poorly with this group. The female guest said there are two things. She said he had to engage them directly and in a better way and then she had the money quote. She said he needs to stop bashing and criticizing the President whether directly or indirectly. She gave the example of Bernie speaking ill of the Presidents signature legislation (ObamaCare) with all this talk about Single Payer and how this will not win him any votes in the AA community. She reminded the listeners that the President has been sued numerous times over ACA and twice the Supreme Court has had to rule that it is the law of the land. She said if this system which is not perfect by any means is being fought still to this day then how on earth is Bernie Sanders going to be able to do even more? She said the whole premise of his campaign is essentially a joke considering the makeup of Congress. I was hollering Hallelujah because somebody is finally speaking the reality of the Sanders campaign.
Joy is so on point! Love her!
Sheâs filling in this week on SiriusXM Insight Hour -12Noon-1PM Eastern. Iâve been listening to that show online this week because of her. Missed her today though.

The first two things you have to do is stop illegal immigration, then second you have to modernize our legal immigration system, and then third you can have a debate about how to even legalize people to begin with,â Rubio said. âAnd then ultimately in 10 or 12 years you could have a broader debate about how has this worked out and should we allow some of them to apply for green cards and eventually citizenship

Rikyrah, the illusion that Hispanics will vote for Rubio (should he ever make the general) is based on the rock hard belief among the GOP that Hispanics are stupid and canât tell the difference between a phony and the genuine article. They had a similar idea about Palin and now Fiorino-just put up a female or a Latino and youâll scoop up all the votes. Rubio is an empty suit whose personal life is a financial mess and who gives the impression of standing for nothing but his own self aggrandizement. Most Hispanics are smart enough not to fall for his act.
