Really stupid comment. Yet they wonder why gun violence is prevalent

****

****

Exactly. The notion that the huge number of gun violence in America is a cause of mental illness is such nonsense and further stigmatizes those with mental illnesses who wake up everyday and contribute to society

This is the single issue candidate reference that PBO made, if I am reading this correctly.
VP Joe Biden—all in for sensible gun legislation. We at least will have a possibility of sanity.
The other (D) candidates-not so much.

VP Biden was TERRIFIC. I love his honesty and his passion. No focus groups for this guy. He speaks straight from his heart.
And I do believe the crowd noticed that, too.

    BRAVO!!!!

Good evening…..have been out of town for a few days visiting my son and his family. Had a wonderful and busy time. Last night I felt like I was part of “Friday Night Lights” as I went to a TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL HOMECOMNG FOOTBALL GAME!!! never been to one before, never will go again, but it was worth it (the first half only) because my grandson is in the marching band, and it was a thrill to see him. Two big suburban Dallas schools played each other…..pretty well matched. The competition was in the half time show. the other team had the better girls’ drill team, and the lesser band; we had the lesser girls’ drill team, but the MUCH BETTER band! Football, marching bands and girls’ drill teams (think Dallas Cowboys) are very big in Texas. In fact, the whole idea and form of the girls’ drill team originated in Texas. The parking lot was jammed, we spent at least twenty minutes just driving through canyons created by cars looking for a place, then someone pulled out of a spot, and we pulled in. As soon as the band left the field, we left. However, we found out this morning that our team won.

Then, this morning I went to my six year old granddaughter’s soccer game at 8 a.m. Yes, they start that early and go all day. My nine year old grandson has signed up for a rollerblade hockey team…..just like ice hockey, but of course, no ice in Texas. Texas, is indeed, in many ways a whole other country. But, my son and family live there, so I will be there frequently…..more so now that I am alone.

When I got into the car with my friend who picked me up, she said, “You look happy.” No one’s been able to say that to me for months…..probably over a year. This weekend was good for my heart and soul. I’ll be going again for Thanksgiving.

Ok. TOD folks, I’m gonna say, based on POTUS not so flattering comment yesterday about Clinton - and her bs comments on Obamacare, that VP Joe Biden is going to run. Just throwing out some speculation for some conversation lol!

6 reasons Sleepy Hollow is looking up

    BY KELLY CONNOLLY •

    Sleepy Hollow

    Posted October 2 2015 — 2:25 PM EDT

After an unexpected smash hit of a first season, Sleepy Hollowstumbled in its second, focusing too much on Katrina (Katia Winter) and Henry (John Noble) while the rest of its diverse ensemble waited in purgatory — sometimes literally. But it’s not too late for TV’s only apocalyptic time travel procedural to find its way out of the woods and back onto the highway — to the tune of “Sympathy for the Devil” — and after Thursday’s solid return, it looks like the show is on the right path. Here’s why the season 3 premiere has us fist-bumping again:

    1. Those pilot callbacks

Series star Tom Mison (Ichabod Crane) says that he wouldn’t necessarily call this a reboot to season 1, and it isn’t. Sleepy doesn’t need to start over entirely. But the echoes of the pilot in Thursday’s episode did send a message that the show is getting back to basics — with a few new twists to honor the characters’ growth. The season 3 premiere found Abbie (Nicole Beharie) bailing Crane out of custody again and taking him to a crime scene uninvited. It also found her doubting every word out of his mouth, but not because she still has questions about the whole apocalypse thing. She just thinks they took care of it already. There’s also the small matter of the fact that Abbie’s mentors keep losing their heads — though this boss worked for the Bureau. Moving on up.

It’s too scary for me to watch, but I’m very happy for Ms. Beharie that Sleepy Hollow appears to be doing better this season. She’s a great actress and she deserves a long and fruitful career.

“The celebration inside the W.E.B. Du Bois Medal ceremony was tempered by some harsh truths: The fight for African-American equality is not over, there is more work to be done, and everyone is implicated.

On the heels of a bruising year that saw the deaths of Freddie Gray and Sandra Bland while in police custody, and the mass killings at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C., the Hutchins Center for African & African American Research on Wednesday afternoon honored seven luminaries whose pivotal social and cultural contributions follow in Du Bois’ footsteps and “represent both the triumphs of the work that has been done and the vastness of the work that needs to be done,” said Harvard’s Henry Louis Gates Jr. in his opening remarks.

“Indeed, ladies and gentlemen,” Gates added, “black lives matter.”

The honorees were varied and accomplished. They included recent U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, Children’s Defense Fund founder Marian Wright Edelman, businesswoman Mellody Hobson, journalist Charlayne Hunter-Gault, hip-hop artist Nasir “Nas” Jones, and photographer Carrie Mae Weems. But one, receiving his award in absentia, floated, you might say, like a butterfly: the legendary boxer and activist Muhammad Ali…”
