So, here’s a theory as to Why DWS is very low key about Tuesdays’ debate.
On October 30, 2007, HRC was a clear favorite front runner with very high poll numbers. On October 31, 2025 her numbers began to plummet and never recovered.
What happened on October 30, 2007? During the (D) debate Sen. Chris Dodd called Sen. Clinton out for expressing both sides of one issue within 15 minutes.
The others piled on. The issue was whether NY Gov. Spitzer should issue Drivers Licenses to undocumented immigrants. First HRC was for it and under pressure she was against it. In the space of a few minutes.
Despite the DNC spin, Hillary did not “almost win.” Those famous cracks in some glass ceiling did not matter, nor did any of the elaborate,legal shenanigans have any effect. The Debate sunk her ship.
No wonder DWS is not so eager for viewers. Also,
No wonder HRC is covering every possible side of current issues. For it? Sure.
Against it? Sure.
How does this end well? I surely don’t know. Tune in on Tuesday.

It is 218 if all the Congressional seats have office holders in office. Therefore, if there are fewer than the 435 House Members currently in office, sometimes the magic number can be 217. Or not.. i am confused also.
Very simple, Vicki: If all the currently 435 seats are occupied, then it requires 218 votes to be elected SPEAKER of the House. Obviously, if there are vacant seats that are not now occupied, then it takes the majority of only those Congressional seats that are occupied to be elected SPEAKER.
AMK, both scenarios are correct! 218 votes are required if all the 435 members of the House of Representatives show up to vote, Yea or Nay, for the SPEAKER. However, if some slackers choose not to show up to vote, or if some Representatives vote to abstain, then it is the majority of those voting YEA who get to determine who is the SPEAKER of the House of Representatives. It’s absolutely rare that members of Congress would chose to be absent during the election of the SPEAKER. I’ve not looked at the historic records, but it is possible that a speaker may have been elected by “the majority of those present on the floor,” rather than the 218 (out of the 435) majority members of the House of Representatives.
