I realized that the Thanksgiving turkey pardoning pictures was the first time I’d seen Sasha with her hair down. I thought it was the glasses that made her look so different, but it was the hair. It is very attractive.
You haven’t seen Sasha with her hair down before this week?!?!? Where have you been, Maryl? :):) She’s had her hair down many, many times before…when she was a lil’ tiny girl and then more recently. Check out both election nights (08 & ’12), and both inaugurations (09 and ’13), and at both of the the DNC conventions (’08 and ’12). Most recent time with her hair down in public was the Pope’s visit in September! :):)
I’ve been down the rabbit hole, where else? I remember her hair down as a little girl, and I guess I didn’t see the pictures with the pope. It’s disgusting how earning a living interferes with my ability to keep current with all things Obama! ;) Every time I’ve seen her in recent years it’s been up in bun and I notice because wearing my hair that way always gave me a headache. I think she looks gorgeous, and somehow her face is more mature than her sister’s. I wonder if she is still the fizzy pop she was when little. I bet she is!

Looking at these images of President Obama and his daughters, you see what a real father does. He’s loving, respectful of his children and obviously very proud of him. This is what it means to be manly and strong. Angry white men vilify him and then turn around and abuse their families with their fists or with even more violent acts. They want to be thought of as tough guys, but they’re pathetic weaklings.
Those young ladies have matured so beautifully!!! So proud of this First Family. Having a great holiday weekend in Montana. It is cold, 14 degrees, but a clear sky and the sun is shinning brightly. These are the days I love. Also our University of Montana Grizzlies are playing in the first round of the FCS playoffs here at home against the South Dakota State U. We are ahead 17-0 so far.
Did my local shopping this morning. Now I am home for the day. Thank you Amk for the great toons.
We won today now on to North Dakota State next week, they are the reigning champions so we have a tough game. I love the way the FCS has their playoffs.
FCS, is for the division under the big boys. The FBS includes USC, Florida, etc. We, the FCS has always been so much smarter than the big boys, we have a playoff system that includes 24 schools. We, Montnana, have played schools from the south, east coast and the west. We love it. It’s really fun when the schools from the south come to Montana in December and play in the snow. Hope this answers your questions.

Malia is much better big sister than I was; no way would I have let my younger sisters have some of my treat when they had one of their own.
I can not get over how Sasha has grown up; almost as tall as Dad now and looking more like her mom each day. Maybe when should now call her by her full name, Natasha.
So glad PBO has had some time with his girls over the holiday; he often bemoans the fact (see his latest comments in the GQ Man of the Year Issue) that they are so busy and have little time him these days. In some ways, girls need their Dads more than their mothers to help them to have a strong sense of themselves. It alwyas warms my heart so much when I see the three of them together.

Not sure if CanadaBarb has shared a recent incident here, which she encountered at the Canadian-U.S. border while traveling to the U.S. (She asked if I would share it for her a couple days ago, and I forgot but finally thought of it - she’s out and about tonight, so I can’t confirm with her.)
The U.S. border patrol agent she encountered was particularly abrasive and rude to her. He asked where she was going and she mentioned one of the reasons for her travel was that she was picking up a package in Washington State. He asked what was in the package and where it came from … coincidentally, it had come from me, and she said “a friend in the States.” She told him it was a gift. He asked where she knew this friend from … and she said a blog we both were on. He asked what blog. She said The Obama Diary, and that it was for supporters of President Obama. (Barb tells everybody she meets she’s a supporter of President Obama! Love it!) Those questions were all probably suitable to that point.
Then he told her she’d never catch him on that blog and he’d been “putting up with Obama for seven years” and couldn’t wait for him to be out of the White House. He may have said a bit more, but she was too upset to recall all of it. And then he let her cross.
Barb told me it took her a couple days to calm down enough to tell me. She was going to call me from her car just after it happened, but was afraid if she kept thinking about it, her blood pressure would go sky high!
This man is employed by our federal government. Maybe his job isn’t to necessarily cordially welcome all visitors from Canada, but it is his job to represent the freakin’ United States of America - and all Americans who pay his salary. President Obama is his freakin’ boss, and while he wears his uniform and is on duty, he needs to stop making nasty racist and political comments about him. Believe me, if Barb had gotten his name, I would have personally reported him to the agency. Totally appalling. Now, I’m mad as a hornet again!

Upshur street Books is about 4/5 blocks from me. :( I’m at the 1300 block of Upshur street in Northwest DC. And I missed him and the girls. So bummed out. :(

Pope Francis arrived in my country of birth, Uganda, yesterday;
the people have been ‘running crazy’ with excitement since before his arrival;
the din reached fever pitch yesterday and today - most seem to have lost their minds;
ordinary people are:
cleaning parts of the streets they have previously messed up;
walking very long distances to come to the various venues in the capital;
praying out loud in the multiple local languages;
dancing, singing, crying, screaming;
planting flowers and banana plants on the roadside (a local tradition to welcome a very important guest)
lining the streets so many feet deep to get a glimpse;
breaking through police boundaries, chasing his PopeMobile around;
even the corrupt politicians are acting all humble and pure & the police forces are refraining from caning people (as they usually do);
Perspective: 40% of Uganda’s population is catholic but the 30% Anglican Protestants, 20% Muslims and rest traditionalist or agnostics have all joined in staking a claim to the Pontiff;
late tomorrow Pope travels to the neighboring war-ravaged Congo so he will need extra protection and good wishes;
The atmosphere in there must be electric. I hope the Pope with such strong influence and admiration among the people, is able to convey sentiments of tolerance for those who are different - e.g., gays in Uganda.
But so far, he has placed a lot of focus on climate, refugees (Uganda host a lot of those from neighboring countries), poverty & the exploitation of the poor, and good governance;
I have not yet seen anything on LGBTQ rights - although this community that faces death and imprisonment has demanded that the Pope condemns those policies (and asks the clergy to stop pushing this intolerance)
Well, some issues are certainly more pressing than others. Also, when the basic structures are implemented, and people are not going hungry/thirsty or homeless, societies tend to become more tolerant in general.
Oh, Linda - As a Catholic, I can’t thank you enough for that perspective about the Pope’s visit! And another similarity he has with President Obama is being welcomed so joyously, wherever he goes, although I worry equally about the two of them when they’re out and about. Good wishes, Pope Francis!

late tomorrow Pope travels to the neighboring war-ravaged Congo so he will need extra protection and good wishes;
The atmosphere in there must be electric. I hope the Pope with such strong influence and admiration among the people, is able to convey sentiments of tolerance for those who are different - e.g., gays in Uganda.
I hope so.
But so far, he has placed a lot of focus on climate, refugees (Uganda host a lot of those from neighboring countries), poverty & the exploitation of the poor, and good governance;
I have not yet seen anything on LGBTQ rights - although this community that faces death and imprisonment has demanded that the Pope condemns those policies (and asks the clergy to stop pushing this intolerance)
Well, some issues are certainly more pressing than others. Also, when the basic structures are implemented, and people are not going hungry/thirsty or homeless, societies tend to become more tolerant in general.
Oh, Linda - As a Catholic, I can’t thank you enough for that perspective about the Pope’s visit! And another similarity he has with President Obama is being welcomed so joyously, wherever he goes, although I worry equally about the two of them when they’re out and about. Good wishes, Pope Francis!

This relates to the fact that GOP are in the same position as they were last year, not wanting to defend their anti-government, racist “base.”
