    Unbelievable that members of our US Congress could be bought so blatantly. The amounts of money paid to them are obscene! I wish we could get these tweets on a full page newspaper Ad to every major newspaper in the country and also consolidate them into one tweet so the 30 - 18 year olds can see who’s killing us and vote accordingly come election time.

    Thank you NW for taking the time to post each and every one.

    America is on it’s way to HELL if these people are not voted out of Office.

    Thank you so much, NW, and “igorvolsky,” for this… HTG, I cannot begin to connect with ANY of these people, even though I’m a Caucasian woman “of a certain age,” brought up in the heartland, by loving and very traditional parents, both hard-working, and raised as a churchgoer in a mainstream Protestant denomination…so you’d think I could, somehow, “identify,” wouldn’t you? But they all look like aliens to me, even the women – few as they are. HOW can anyone vote against even knowing who’s bought how many weapons, and how much ammo? Could they even ask anyone if they’re allowed on a plane, and, if not, maybe NOT SELL THEM A GUN??!! We have to take off our shoes to show we don’t have any explosives in our sneakers, and our yogurt (if not purchased in the “secure” area) will not get through the TSA checkpoint because its “consistency” is not acceptable… But, hey, wander into a gun show with some cash, and no problem. HOW DO THESE PEOPLE SLEEP AT NIGHT? HOW DO THEIR SPOUSES/PARTNERS LIE DOWN BESIDE THEM, night after night, and say anything remotely like “Hey, great work, honey… I feel so much safer now…”?

    Nerdy, this is such a powerful presentation of corruption that I wish we could get it broadcast and distributed across the country. What you have posted here is the gallery of shame and dishonor that the Republican-led Senate has become. It’s what people look like when they trade their humanity for money. Everyone of these so-called representatives has decided that the lives of their constituents are irrelevant. If they die, they die, as long as the money keeps rolling into their accounts. I think the capitol flag should have been lowered to half mast after this to recognize the dead and soon to be dead that will result from this vote.

    Nerdy, Thank you Thank you Thank you!

    I am not on Twitter, so, if not for you bringing this to TOD, I wouldn’t have seen it.

    I am going to pass this on, not just to my liberal friends and cousins (“the choir”) but to those who may not want to hear “liberal stuff”, those who think of themselves as moderate.or apolitical - those folks I normally would hesitate to engage politically. On this issue especially, I am out of f**ks to give.

    O.k. off to work…

    “On Tuesday, Basim Ismail stood blindfolded outside Auburn University’s Student Center with his arms outstretched and a sign placed by his side: “I am Muslim and I trust you. Do you trust me enough to hug me?” It wasn’t long before Ismail got an answer, and it wasn’t the one he was expecting. “I expected not that many hugs so I was surprised,” Ismail said after the experiment. “That was a lot of hugs … I appreciated all of them.” The “BlindTrust” experiment performed by Ismail was part of a project led by the Auburn University Muslim Student Association…cont”

    I hate everything about this week’s #SanBernardinoMassacre, and the worst is the poor work done by federal agencies.

    some clarification about a non-existent home address for the visa application :

    - in most developing countries, there are no street addresses;

    - the people mainly use postal addresses for communication (that is if they are even able to afford a postal box) or the work address for one of the relative/friend who has access to a work-related postal box;

    - streets (even some major streets in towns, businesses, government and private institution campuses etc) have no names assigned to them. people just know that if I follow this road located here, then it will get me to destination A, B, …. Z;

    - given then thousands of people who complete US visa applications on any given day, I don’t know how each individual home address could be checked especially given the way budgets for the State Dept are cut ;

    it would not surprise me if the names (and true identity) of the female shooter in San Bernardino is not the true one her parents gave her;

    the reason I say this is due to the challenges of accurately identifying people in resource-poor nations:

    for those who are not familiar with demographic data keeping in developing nations here are few things for you to think about:

    - most births and deaths are not recorded because either a centralized government birth-death system does not exist or hospitals are not mandated to keep such records, or because birth/death may occur in homes inside private homes; no records are kept at a local town/village level. as a result most published population statistics are close estimates at best ;

    - biometric information (like fingerprints) are rarely ever taken or stored (except if you are interacting with foreign governments or their agencies;

    - in a few hospitals where a birth is recorded, the system is often informal (new mothers get a flimsy piece of paper to prove they gender of the child) but no database is kept in the hospital. instead it is then up to the parent to go to another facility located in the capital to request for a birth certificate by VERBALLY providing names and gender of the child (so you can guess how ages can be manipulated). if there is never any reason to get a birth then you may as well “not exist”;

    - most countries I am familiar with have no unique number (like a US social security number) that is permanently assigned to individuals an

    - no one needs a death certificate to bury their dead or even a coroner’s report to prove cause of death (this may include even people who die in private and government hospitals;

    - in some place, it does not matter the order in which people use their names (i.e. my first, middle and last names can be interchanged on formal documents and still I am accepted as the same person);

    - most importantly, the rampart corruption that exists means that at the “right price” one can get a document they want and often the cooperation of government official or public employee

    The no address situation exists in countries we think of as like us, for instance Costa Rica. We visited friends in San Jose, Costa Rica in the nineties, and were informed there were no addresses. We asked how mail was delivered….the man said, see that electric tower….well, it would be so many houses north of that tower. San Jose was so confusing, I was glad we weren’t driving; our host did. So, I’m sure this situation is even more chaotic in other places.

      sometimes the location markers are trees, anthills or houses etc…. which are temporary;

      so it is possible you pass by one location and get lost next time if your previous marker is gone/damaged/removed

    except for a few (how in the world a noobie like cotton got millions?), rest of the corrupt critters are literally dirt cheap.

    A rough guesstimate sez for an investment of under 10 mil, the gun & ammo manufacturers reaped millions in returns.

    If we were able to follow the money, I wonder what we would find at the end of the trail. The timing of this terrorist act and connection to ISIS just seems too convenient for the GOP efforts to thwart PBO’s refugee initiative IMHO.

        Hubby and I will appreciate that. 😊 He is a Macy’s retiree via of May Department Stores (33 with MDS; last two when Macy’s took over). We have some stock still. Don’t have a Macy’s here in Knoxville. Have to go to Nashville for a store or we order online. That employee discount is very nice!

      Glad you brought it here — would not have seen it… Not a Macy’s fan; via buyout and mergers their quality diminished… What ended it for me was when they added all of the celebrity lines — I just refuse to voluntarily give rich folks my money, then plaster free advertising for their product on my a$$… If you ever see me rocking a “name” label, best believe I got it at Steinmart, off the 75% off blue slash rack with a coupon for an additional % off… Did I ever tell you about the time I got two dresses at Steinmart for $0.37 cash?

      That being said, this pig really pisses me off — imagine a presidental candidate rooting for an American company to fail…

            I don’t know how you do it all. Must be your great attitude!

            Some days, without the schedule I imagine you have, the only words I scribble on a card I hand to people who ask me “How are you?” are:

            drag a$$ing

            Ha. My new favorite combo of words.

            Get some rest, and good luck tomorrow at the festival.

        I stopped shopping there because of their association with Birther Donald . I expressed to them why I would no longer frequent their store, they still kept him on. Now they dropped him (good) but it’s too little too late for me.

        That said, Donald Trump is an ASS. Rooting for a company to fail.

    great tweets re: the amount of money that the gun lobby pays Congress….what is interesting for me is that my Senator ..Toomey was not on the list…he and Sen Manchin proposed legislation after Sandy Hook…that was filibustered…

    i betcha if a similar investigation in whom in the Senate accepts money from the fossil fuel industry we would see a similar result…hence their obsession with climate denial and trying to obstruct the President and actually the world’s move toward addressing climate change…

    Not voting has consequences…

    the census will be hear in a few more years…we DEMS have got to develop a strategy that reverses this gerrymandering
