Good Afternoon TODVille.
Sanders and its supporters in the media, exclusively of the Obnoxious Tina Turner and the Dear Ben Jealous, have been celebrating the YU-U-U-U-U-U-U-U-UGE triple play victory since 6am, before anyone cast a vote. I wish them Happy Easter. But I know that HRC will resurrect in time to win the Democratic nomination.
Good Voting in Hawaii morning Chips and Todville!
Yes, we are about to crowd into the high school cafeteria for what’s called a ‘presidential preference poll’. Not a caucus, certainly not a primary- though there will be a ballot. The reason for this weirdness is that our official primary is in August, after the National Convention. So our delegates are apportioned now, so they can vote there. Then we vote. Or something. Also today, we can register for the Democratic party, which you must do before entering your ballot in the poll. Still, they expect big crowds and long lines. Maybe because everyone has to show up at 1 pm today, with no early voting, mail-in, or other accommodation.
I read on twitter an account of one Hillary supporter trying to throw away Bernie supporters’ ballots; they’re also reporting people were turned away; did you see anything like that today?
I am not watching tv, I did check twitter and the Berniebros are being so obnoxious as NCLB said. I am just glad to see there is more push back from us sane folks on Bernie not helping other candidates. I ask them all to please show me where Bernie is helping any other candidate and does he plan to govern by himself.
Adding the the delegates that seem to be available according to this NY Times live update site, there seems to be all of 142 delegates up for grabs. Oh my.
http://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2016/03/obama-and-the-kids/474462/?utm_source=SFTwitter IT says it includes only pledged delegates
OK I have gotten mad and was hitting back at some Berniebots but I realize I don’t have the anger to continue a discussion with them on Twitter. I really admire Propane Jane. She is my hero. I have been told that I have don’t understand Bernie or why his supporters support him. We are totally unaware of reality. I had to quit then. Was I ever that blind. Really makes me want to scream. They talk about how great his wins are but Hilliary’s wins in the south didn’t mean anything. I don’t know if I will survive this season. Thank goodness for TOD.
Stepping in to bring you some hilarity. Might have to buy these for election night party favors
Terrific! Classy! Yuge! Tiny Orange Hands Soap Set
“Give yourself a hand! Or take two, they’re small. Tiny, in fact! Teeny tiny, just like someone else who shall remain nameless here. Orange, of course, and smells appropriately of circus peanuts, because this is a circus, amirite, folks? A totally great soap set, the best! ”
Its difficult for me to watch that. It tells us so much about who this person really is. Bernie Sanders can’t get anywhere near the White House. Supporters of his, if they are not just entrists, are wrong. He is a disaster.
She looked like she was expecting to be introduced. Probably the people there didn’t even notice. It may not have been meant as dismissive as it looked, but even so it shows he is totally unaware and uninterested in the effect of his words or gestures. It makes me think of the tightrope President Obama has walked for the past 8 years (at least). He has never made a gesture or said a word or had a facial expression that could be used against him. He knew that would detract from his message. Of course, he is a gracious, thoughtful man who treats people with respect naturally. His relationship with Michelle and his girls is obviously authentic and he would never have been caught doing something like this because it just wouldn’t occur to him. But it makes me angry that Sanders can show up looking like he just got out of bed, say horrible things, apparently do some underhanded stuff (claiming endorsements he doesn’t have),j wave fingers in peoples’ faces, and do stuff like this with no criticism or pushback at all. Clinton has some of the same issues; if she showed up looking the way Sanders does she’d be ripped apart. And of course she can’t look angry (neither could PBO) or talk loudly, while Sanders always looks angry and his voice annoys the hell out of me.
PBO would have NEVER done that. Even if he was surprised by her being there, what he SHOULD have done, was embrace her…not push her away. Sorry, not buying.
I’m not selling anything. I just said that even with the most generous interpretation he still comes out looking bad and contrasted that with PBO who has never been caught in an awkward moment. I completely agree; the deep affection and respect between the First Couple preclude the idea of him behaving toward her this way even accidentally.
I appreciate you giving him the benefit of the doubt, but did you hear the tone in his voice? It was like he was taking angrily to a child. I know people who have been married for a long time can be short with each other at times, but his tone was so clearly belittling. It tells me a lot about him as a husband, to be honest. If my man spoke to me that way, especially in front of people….huh! Talk about feelin’ the bern!
Very true. It was awkward and ugly no matter how one might interpret his intention. I also agree with the rest of your observations about the different standard he seems to be held to, and how PBO would never do anything like that to Michelle.

Hi Mme S.
If the long version is the one in which Pánfilo is playing dominoes with friends and wishing there was a 4th player, then yes I’ve seen it. :) Truth be told I wasn’t paying any attention to PBO’s accent. :)
:-) Our President is so damn cool, and such a superhero on just about everything, I just love those little moments when he reveals that he’s human like the rest of us.
Looks like the Clinton campaign was anticipating a miserable day today. Their goal was to get 54 delegates on the day and they will probably do that. On to the big primary states in the Mid-Atlantic.
I wonder if the Sanders campaign has considered the fact that they are winning in caucuses, and states with open primaries, where voting isn’t restricted to the Democrats.? He is winning in open caucuses and open primaries.
Today will be Bernie’s last good day of delegate hauls from all white caucus states There’s only four caucuses left, Bernie expected to win 2, ND and WY, a handful of delegates. The rest are large primary states where Clinton has mostly large leads. Bernie will probably emerge with a net gain of 60 delegates from today, reducing the margin from 300 to 240. On Apr. 5 is WI a large primary state, which will probably be a wash, although Hillary leads in last poll +7. Apr. 19 comes NY -247 delegates, where Hillary has a large lead, last poll gives her +43. On April 26 come MD -95 delegates, PA- 189 delegates where she has 20-30+ leads and a diverse demographic. Big victory margins in those three states alone will boost her lead substantially and the media will stop promoting the idea that Bernie has a chance.
One metric that has not changed at all is the popular vote. Hillary is still approxx + 2.5 million. What is remarkable to me is how undemocratic these caucuses are. AK caucus had a mere 500 voters, WA caucus had only 25k voters, out of at least 3.5 mil registered Dem voters. That is pathetic.
Everything you said was spot on, Bill! ….only one slight exception is that AK #’s are confusing to people…the 539 represents the total state convention delegates awarded and not the actual # of votes:
total turnout: 10,617 statewide (compared to 8880 in 2008) - that’s 119% of 08
Attendance in Anchorage: 3924
Sanders – 435 delegates [to state convention] (81%) Clinton – 104 delegates [to state convention] (19%)
For comparison: In 2008, Obama received 77% of the Alaska vote..so it appears number of voters for Hillary would be up this year over 2008 as well
Ya gotta love how Team Sanders treats today like a massive momentum shift with <30,000 voters involved, but blow off a southern state like South Carolina with 370,000 voters because Bernie lost.
They have to work awfully hard to ignore the popular vote reality.
This is the opportunity for the Sanders campaign to stage a kind of coup. Just the Ron Paul followers a few years ago. It is really unrepresentative to say the least.
WI could be terrible. HRC should camp out there. BS will. It’s an open primary and BS’s b.s. has resonance there, plus UW. A draw or something close is necessary. She needs to better define him now.
The optics are bad. HRC shouldn’t ignore caucuses. She had to catch up in perception.
She is treating BS with kidd gloves to better unite the party later on. Meanwhile, he’s defining her as a devil and corrupt. I don’t see how that helps her.
She’s doesn’t have to go all out BS nasty, but she has to give Dems reasons not to vote for him.
Topping the list of most admired leader is Pope Francis (fitting, since it’s Easter in much of TODville now):

He doesn’t do that for anyone. What does Obama like about the pope? Among other things, he views the pope as a devout believer who nevertheless is fully committed to pluralism. This sort of commitment is what Obama is seeking from Muslim leaders, and it is what progressive Muslim leaders are seeking from the more fundamentalist-minded clerics in their midst.”
And just this month there was a State Dinner for Canada :) :
“Justin Trudeau
Trudeau, the new Canadian prime minister, who was described to me by one State Department official as a ‘mini-Obama,’ comes into office with a built-in advantage: He is not his predecessor—the hard-edged, right-leaning Stephen Harper. The White House honored Trudeau with a state dinner in early March in part out of relief that a like-minded prime minister now rules in Ottawa. Gallup Poll on 11/01/16 @ High Noon: PBO @ 100% approval rating. Since it’s Gallup, & anonymous sources told us that they were choking out that mere number, We The People say it’s 200% to infinity! :)
[This is all tongue in cheek, Onion-style!]
Good Morning TOD….
And to you and everyone at TOD! Blessings sent for a Happy Easter!
