Talking about the results of the crime bill of the ’90s on African Americans, Hillary added, “I want white people to recognize … there is systemic racism … ”

Now she’s talking! I very, very much like the fact that she is pivoting from “I understand how African Americans feel” (which she doesn’t) over to putting the onus on the fact that white Americans need to take action on crushing the systemic racism in so many areas of our every day life, whether it be the criminal justice system or whatever. Hope to God she continues that.

    Stop commiserating. Start leading!

Same questions are being asked at every debate. When are they going to ask foreign policy questions?

        April 14, 2025 at 10:05 pm

Hillary sometimes slips in some foreign policy matters in the middle of her answers. CNN’s collective minds can’t stretch beyond our borders. Maybe that’ll change before the debate ends. (Maybe not.)

Just turned on the debate. Am late. Sounds like Bernie’s crowd is in the house, maybe more of his there or are they just rowdier! How has it gone so far? Was watching Cruz interviewed by Chuck Todd earlier. CT let Cruz get away with several lies, even the old Carly Fiorino lie. Chuck makes a little noise like he objects, doesn’t speak up and lets Lying Ted finish all his lies.

      GE/GM TMG.

IMHO HRC hit her stride this debate. She was ready, armed with truth to effectively counter Sanders’ aggression and sarcasm.

She also said something to the effect that he’s all talk and no action, pointing out that his bills haven’t been enacted.

She brought up pro-choice (something not mentioned in 8 previous debates).

Good source to catch up is @cnnpolitics.

And finally, the first I’ve heard whites take responsibility for racism (unlike Bernie’s spox who thought having Barack Obama apologize for slavery would be a good idea — WTH?).

So so so sorry everyone, especially Nerdy, for going AWOL, will *definitely* be back posting tomorrow so Nerdy can finally have a break - can never ever thank her enough. My mother’s doing okay, it’s been a tough couple of weeks, an emotional meltdown or two along the way, but we’re getting there. Thank you all for your lovely messages, you’re the best of friends, and again, thank you Nerdy and all the BTs who took over. Love ya to bits.

So wonderful to see you here - sometimes the emotional breakdowns are far worse than the medical issues - being loved and wanted and cared for is a great remedy. As we get older and get ill it sometimes seems just to hard to start all over on the recovery side of things, but mostly we seem to come around & do what we have to do. Many hugs and hopes to your Mom - may you both be recovering in every possible way.

Nerdy has been wonderful with the posts - but it is a delight when you are both around - cannot imagine the internets without you.

I certainly do not mean this in any way as a mock of people who happen to have disabilities, trust me.

But did you ever see those SNL (I believe) skits where someone is making a speech, and there’s a box on the screen for people who are hearing impaired, and - instead of using ASL - some guy in the screen box yells out everything the speaker’s saying?

That’s what Bernie reminds me of (the screamer) … and people criticize Hillary’s “tone” and voice level (not “ladylike,” I guess). I do like that tonight she seems to be getting calmer the more Bernie gets agitated. Hope that continues - it’s a great way to disarm people (and children, I might add).

In the beginning of her campaign this time around, Hillary was standing more on her own record and not mentioning President Obama as much - and the fact she was HIS Secretary of State. She learned early on that wasn’t gonna fully work. (It’s not like we’re back in the days when Gore didn’t want to mention he would continue Bill’s work.) She gradually switched over to (1) giving President Obama credit, and (2) reminding folks she helped him achieve his foreign policy agenda. Yes, she is mentioning him more now, which is working from my perch.

To make most overarching changes in this country that are for the better, you can’t go from “zero to 60” the first week. It’s always a long haul, and then we sit around, pat ourselves on the back, and say “Why didn’t we do that earlier?”

Drives us crazy, yes, and I get wanting to move things along more quickly, but not with our governmental system of checks and balances.

        April 15, 2025 at 2:27 am

Great comment, J’OB! The political system bequeathed to us by the “founding fathers” was perfectly designed to prevent instant revolutionary changes. The great FDR found that out in his first two years on office when the U.S. Supreme Court nullified many of his early New Deal programs. JFK also talked about finding out about the limits of Presidential power. President Obama has always talked about how change would not be easy and would require steady and persistent hard work and struggle. A presidential candidate who promises instant revolution, once he/she is elected president, is clearly fooling his gullible supporters.

Good question, AMK! It’s, however, sometimes not that easy for a candidate to remember everything during one debate! What is so disgusting is the incompetence of our so called journalists. They are the ones who should be asking hard questions and exposing lies and hypocrisy of those runnining for office, including the presidency!

The Czech Republic is poised to change its name to “Czechia” to make it easier for companies and sports teams to use it on products and clothing.

The country will retain its full name but Czechia will become the official short geographic name, as “France” is to “The French Republic”.

If approved by parliament, the name will be lodged with the United Nations.

Along with Slovakia, the Czech Republic was established when Czechoslovakia broke in two in 1993.

Some of the country’s best-known exports, including its Pilsner Urquell beer and ice hockey team, currently use the word “Czech”.

But “Czech” is an adjective and cannot properly be used as a name for the country.

Some have criticised “Czechia” as ugly, or too similar to “Chechnya”, the semi-autonomous Russian republic.

    http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-36048186

I would have gone with czechers.

I followed the debate on twitter. From what I can tell Hillary did fine. And in the area of optics, Bernie appealed to the haters, Hillary to the sensible and the rational. Bernie did nothing to make a dent in her lead in NY. And with his comments about the “Deep South” he inevitably turned off AA voters.

I know I am going to sound like a broken record, but Iam puzzled why no body has asked Bernie Sanders about his caucus wins in states that are not in the “Deep South,” but which are almost 100% guaranteed to vote Republican during the General elections. Here are the state caucuses (not even primaries) that Bernie won that have not voted for a Democratic presidential candidate since 1964: Alaska, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Utah and Wyoming. Here are Southern States that Hillary won that have been won by Democratic presidential Candidates since 1964: Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. As a matter of fact, in 2008, President Obama won three Southern States: Florida, North Carolina and Virginia. He also came very close to winning Georgia. Yet, he lost miserably in Idaho, Kansas, Oklahoma, Utah, and Wyoming-the states that Bernie sanders is so proud to have won in caucuses. Even if Bernie was the presidential nominee of the Democratic Party, there is ZERO chance that he would the Republican stronghold states of Alaska, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Utah, and Wyoming. And now that he has dissed and dismissed Black voters in Southern states, there is Zero chance that he would win Florida, Virginia, or North Carolina. Without winning at least one of those states, Bernie has ZERO chance of winning the presidency!

Chips, my heart is with you as you navigate the mysterious landscape of elder care. Been there with my mother, and many friends. The tricky part is discerning the difference between mom’s hating the idea of being placed, and her hating an actual place itself. If there’s a loving AMK there, you may take that as a sign.❤

Been there also. My mom with Alzheimer’s. I tried caring for her at home 24/7 for three months until I crashed and burned. She got psychotic and paranoid, I got her on meds, but it wasn’t enough. Eventually she needed Memory Care and I was able to get her on Medicaid and into a wonderful facility. The last three years of her life were her most peaceful and tranquil.
