For the millionth time, “choice” is a myth. No employer-provided insurance gives you a ton of choices. Maybe Plan A or Plan B, but they force you into their own fiscal needs as a company, which have nothing to do with providing the worker decent health care.

        • 11 swbluega
          March 13, 2025 at 1:14 pm

You are so right, 57. Plus, insurance companies were dropping doctors, dropping plans, pulling out of states, and blaming it on ACA rather than their managerial choices to increase their bottom line (and increase their upper management bonuses).

Before ACA, many had even less choice because they were tied to their jobs in order to maintain health insurance.

What is the history of Putin and Trump’s relationship with Exxon?
How does it tie in with climate change denial? Exxon knew about global warming in the 1970’s and covered it up: https://insideclimatenews.org/content/Exxon-The-Road-Not-Taken

Russia’s Siberia is the last giant region on our planet (discounting Antarctica) that is largely undeveloped by Big Oil. An ice-free Arctic Ocean would make drilling in this region an Exxon/Rosneft dream come true. Right wing opposition to Climate Change is a no-brainer from this perspective.

Putin will be an Oil trillionaire if sanctions are lifted on Russia. After years/decades of business associations with Russia, it seems likely that Trump has vested interests in Russian oil.

Putin’s strategy to get everything he wants hinges on weakening western alliances (NATO, UN, EU), climate change denial, and recruiting puppet partners like Trump around the world.

Drama and distraction while Bannon/Tillerson/Trump forward the Rosneft-Putin-Exxon goal of lifting sanctions. We’re witnessing Putin’s revenge on the United States while positioning himself for great wealth. En route he is bringing down the West using pawn$ like Trump.

      March 13, 2025 at 9:17 am

“Exxon conducted cutting-edge climate research decades ago and then, without revealing all that it had learned, worked at the forefront of climate denial.” It’s own researchers warned management about the emerging threat in the 1970’s, failed to disclose the risks to shareholders, “manufacturing doubt about the scientific consensus that its own scientists had confirmed.”

I saw an interesting video on Facebook this morning about Trump voters in Mississippi that in live in abject poverty. It was jarring in that these people were living in shacks and continue to believe that Trump was the chosen one that was sent to deliver them from whatever demons that they could conjure up. And now we are being asked to reach out to these voters and try to make them see the light, after watching that Facebook video I seriously don’t think that there is anything we as democrats can do to move these people off of their position.

It’s so hard to fight when you don’t see democrats in congress bringing to fight to the republicans. I mean we have an administration that is so corrupt and has been involved in more scandals than any presidents in history. We have a president that is lying about a former president, and even going as far as to tarnish his legacy, and we have a republican party that just introduced a healthcare bill that is so awful that even some republicans are against it. But the only people that are on TV strongly opposing it are republicans. Where are the democrats in congress? How come they are not on TV calling out these atrocities. You are the party in the minority for a reason. Where is your outrage democratic senators and representatives, Chuck Shummer, CBC, Nancy Pelosi and others? If positions were reversed, do you think republicans would be this silent? What do you think would’ve happened to a democratic president if he or she had made up serious lies about a republican former president? Do you think republicans are just goung to be nonchalant about this? I bet you they would be talking about impeachment day in and day out. Where are the democrats callibg out RyanCare the deathcare that it is. Abd stop calling it Trumpcare. Wrap it around the republican party. Call it Deathcare. Hire a spokesperson for democrats, and let that person go on TV everday calling this Ryancare the deathcare that it is. Let the same spokesperson be on TV constanting calling out all the lies by the Trump administration, and demanding that the media do their job by challenging them and seeking the truth.
If democrats don’t start coming out swinging and showing the American people that they are fighting with them, they might as well remained the minority party. They really need to change direction and stopped being timid. What have they got to lose? Being the reasonable party has gotten them nothing. They’ve lost every election that that did not include Barack Obama. They’ve lost every election since 2000 except for 2006, 2008, and 2012. Something needs to be done in their approach to the American people. Majority of the people approves democratic policies but are sometimes not inclined to vote for democrats. They need to find a way to show that they care. They need to be more visible on TV and in their states. Politics is a theatrical stage. And the only actors on stage right now are the republicans. And we wonder why republicans are constantly being rewarded even if they are terrible actors. They are being rewarded because they are the only actors on stage and they are the only people Americans see on TV even when they are spewing lies. Please democrats in congress, be visible and show the American people you will fight this administration tooth and nail.
    Sorry for the long post-

Jewelz, I feel you on so many levels, the “Deathcare” bill is like the “Deathstar” in star wars. It is a bill design to take away health care from those of us the need it the most. And let me tell you something, god forbid that this bill passes, it will mean certain death for some of us. I just hope that we have it in us as democrats to fight this bill to the end.

            Or there’s this avenue…

            https://www.washingtonpost.com/powerpost/aclu-is-spending-millions-on-grass-roots-resistance-campaign/2017/03/12/f0fe8158-05ed-11e7-ad5b-d22680e18d10_story.html?utm_term=.488b33e9c387

But the 2,000-odd people in the University of Miami’s basketball arena were there to hear Anthony Romero, the executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union, try to recruit them into a legal army.

“It didn’t take a lot of work to fill this auditorium,” Romero said, as the screens surrounding him showed mass protests against President Trump. “People want to be deployed. They don’t just want to write you a check, or sign a petition. They want to be engaged. You want to be protagonists with us.”

The ACLU is spending millions of dollars on a plunge into grass-roots politics — a “People Power” campaign. It’s the newest and largest development from a sprawling “resistance” movement that regularly moves faster than the Democratic Party’s leaders can think and isn’t waiting on politicians for cues.

They are not silent, but are they getting air time on tv? Schumer has been much better than I’d hoped. Pelosi, and I love her, seems to not realize the fight has changed, although her rhetoric has been pretty strong but I think Schumer has been better. . There should have been new, younger leadership, It would have helped revitalize the party. Newer, younger leadership would have caught the attention of the media, I think. It isn’t their fault if they’re not getting enough coverage: it’s corporate media that puts their business interests above the journalism they are supposed to provide.

I do agree, however, that twitter cannot be the only place Dems put their message. They need strong, direct contact. I’m seeing it in my Chicago district, even from Gutierrez, who usually only cares about immigration issues. Tammy Duckworth, our new IL Senator, is out there a lot.

Kushners Set to Get $400 Million From Chinese on Marquee Tower
A company owned by the family of Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, stands to receive more than $400 million from a prominent Chinese company that is investing in the Kushners’ marquee Manhattan office tower at 666 Fifth Ave.
The planned $4-billion transaction includes terms that some real estate experts consider unusually favorable for the Kushners. It provides them with both a sizable cash payout from Anbang Insurance Group for a property that has struggled financially and an equity stake in a new partnership.

But climate change is the four hundred pound gorilla in the room.
(Atmospheric carbon dioxide levels are 40% higher than they were in 1750:
          https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2015-whats-warming-the-world.)
The White House plans to lift sanctions on behalf of Rosneft-Putin-Exxon so that $trillions can be made drilling for oil in Russia also has severe implications for American democracy. Trump complying with Putin involves undermining the State Department, cuts to NOAA, rewriting the United States Constitution so that Trump’s Administration cannot be effectively investigated - just a few examples.

Report: ‘Republicans Are Counting On Democrats To Step In And Help Repair’ GOP Health Care Law
    By David
    3/13/17 9:00am
    …………………………………………….

Despite warnings from experts that millions could lose coverage, Republicans are pressing forward with the belief that Democrats will one day help fix the mess they created, the paper said.

“Ultimately, Republicans are counting on Democrats to step in and help repair what even Republicans anticipate as upheaval if a repeal measure is passed without a broad remake of American health care,” the Times noted. “Republican leaders have made no effort to hide the strategy.”
