Ariel Foxman: First Lady Michelle Obama On Style, Social Media, And The Biggest Challenges Facing Girls Today

“Sixty-two million girls around the world aren’t in school, and the first thing that comes to my mind is, ‘That could’ve been me.’ [I think about] how I would have felt at the age of 10 or 11 or 12 if somebody walked up and said, ‘That’s it. Your dreams are over! You’re going to have to leave school and get married to somebody twice your age and start having kids.'” “We can fool ourselves into thinking that everybody is still watching the evening news, but I live with Generation Z, and I know that their habits, the way they take in information in, is so different. And they’ve changed…

The letter, by Senators Sherrod Brown, of Ohio, Dianne Feinstein, of California, and Ben Cardin, of Maryland, was sent to Attorney General Jeff Sessions, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, and F.B.I. Director James Comey. The senators wrote that “It appears that the lack of due diligence by the Trump Organization described in the article exposed President Trump and his organization to notoriously corrupt Azerbaijani oligarchs, and may also have exposed the Trump Organization to the IRGC”—the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. “Even though the Trump Organization appears to have withdrawn from the Baku Tower deal, serious questions remain unanswered about the Trump Organization’s potential criminal liability.”

The article reports that the Trump Organization worked in partnership with companies run by Elton and Anar Mammadov on the Baku luxury hotel and residence, a project overseen by Ivanka Trump. Anar is the son of Ziya Mammadov, who was, until recently, the transportation minister of Azerbaijan. Elton was, at the time of the deal, a member of Azerbaijan’s parliament. The U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act makes it a crime for American companies to provide benefit to foreign government officials in hopes of profiting from their power.

From something friends in Lismore, northern NSW. Holy Moley.

“As a result of a revised prediction by the Bureau of Meteorology for the Wilson River at Lismore of 11 metres early Friday morning, the NSW State Emergency Service is directing residents to evacuate immediately.

Do not delay your evacuation. Roads will be congested or closed. You could become trapped and need rescue. Remaining in flooded areas is dangerous and may place your life at risk.

Wherever possible, people should go and stay with family or friends, or make other accommodation arrangements. For people who need assistance an evacuation centre has been set up at Southern Cross University, Military Road, East Lismore

    As you evacuate you should:
    - Take your important documents, mementos and photos.
    - Take your spare clothing, medicines and personal hygiene supplies.
    - If you are going to the evacuation centre, take blankets/sleeping bags, pillows and sleeping mats.
    - If possible, check to see if your neighbours need help.
    - Turn off the electricity and gas.
    - Never drive ride or walk through floodwater.”
    - Continue to listen to a local radio station for updates.

      Cohen-Watnick and Ellis:
(Benen) reporting on NYT: “Nunes was given the information by two White House officials: Michael Ellis,
who used to work for the committee Nunes chairs, and Ezra Cohen-Watnick,
who was brought into the White House by Michael Flynn (the former National Security Advisor who was forced to resign last month),
who apparently has connections to top members of Team Trump, and whose job was saved by the president personally.”

    • 32 Judith Fardig
      March 30, 2025 at 7:41 pm

My daughter went to Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, MD with Michael Ellis. He was a bit conservative but raised in a progressive Jewish family. Started to go far-right at Dartmouth and was groomed by Karl Rove on GWB re-election campaign who taught him the ends justify the means. I distinctly recall a chilling statement he made then that they “knew” they were going to win Ohio because they had something failsafe cooked up (vote tally flipping?) Michael has taken calculated steps to be a GOP political star someday. If the Senate Intelligence Committee has subpoena powers to interview him under oath, I’ll bet he would not want his whole future ruined over this Trump Russia scandal and would talk. Of course, I have not seen him since he was 18 and really don’t understand how someone so intelligent could sell his soul to the devil like that.

        March 31, 2025 at 5:30 pm

Hello Judith, other 45 surrogates were saying the same things in key battleground states which tipped me off to voting machine tampering.. They were just too sure of the outcome to suspect otherwise. Even Senator Obama was not too sure during his own 2008 election until it was announced and he was a superstar which 45 cannot claim. I know everyone think the American people actually voted for that man in the White house, but I still believe they did not. The statistics, we read are all from the tainted data after the tampering.

If Comey had not done what he did before the election, people would not have believed the results at all and it would have been more difficult to justify the win. Comey was cover for the crime that was about to be committed against US democracy, he was not the reason for the outcome but he and the suppression of votes were used to make the results believable.

Had paper ballots been used, I still firmly believe Mrs Clinton would have been President today not 45.

It is because of things like this that we should not look to democrats in congress to mount a sustained resistance to this cretin and his puppeteers. Grass roots groups will get it done; they will only attach themselves after the fact to the things that activists to in an attempt to keep their seats. We should primary anyone who cooperates with him to the detriment of the rest of us. I always keep in mind that PBO did not come from establishment democrats and the DNC. He was elected twice without any meaningful support from them. They were questioning PBO to the end (remember when they over-rode his veto then realized that they had set themselves up to be sued by foreign powers and individuals?).

The CEO of General Electric Co. on Wednesday slammed President Trump’s executive order rolling back former President Obama’s climate change efforts in an internal memo, pledging his company will continue its efforts to combat climate change.

“Companies must be resilient and learn to adjust to political volatility all over the world,” Jeff Immelt wrote in the company blog post, according to Politico. ”Companies must have their own ‘foreign policy’ and create technology and solutions that address local needs for our customers and society.”

Immelt stressed the importance of sticking with the Paris agreement, the landmark international climate deal reached in 2015 that Trump opposes.

Immelt built a good relationship with President Obama and was utilized in a number of ways to move the President’s jobs, econ and climate agenda forward. I’m very happy to see him standing up for the importance of climate change. Hopefully he’ll influence others to take a stand.

U.S.A. has a shortage of medical professionals. We’re fortunate that many Indian-Americans are highly educated and trained in these areas. And beyond fortunate that Indian medical professionals are willing to move to the USA and help us out - when they could stay home and not be discriminated against.
