df, I remember the funny stories you told us about Sadie when you first brought her home. I am so glad she enriched your lives, and you had the chance to give her those years of happiness. She will forever be part of you, and continue enriching your life.
Judith, I am so sorry for your news. I am praying and hoping that the excellent doctors will be able to bring you through this very hard time.
Thank you my wonderful TOD family for all your heartfelt and touching messages about my dear Sadie. I appreciate them all and am lifted up by all of them. This one hurt. the decision to put a beloved family animal down is always difficult, but this one was a shock to me because she was improving and I was making plans to bring her home on Thursday.
Last night, I went to the emergency animal hospital to pay the balance of what was owed as I could barely hold myself together after we decided to put her down. They were kind enough to give me a couple days. They don’t normally do that. I got to speak with the doctor that saw her on her arrival to the hospital on Monday night. She was critical then, her disease ( then unknown to us) was taking its toll on her giant body.
I thanked her for her quick action with Sadie. Even though the blood work hadn’t come back from the lab, she had a suspicion that Addison’s disease was what Sadie had, and she acted accordingly, not having a definitive diagnosis yet. I believe this doctor’s swift decision brought her back from death that Monday night…but her poor organs could not take the stress from what she had been through and she succumbed to this disease. The doctor was as shocked and surprised as I was about her turn for the worse and was so affected by this, that she was moved to tears and unable to call me and tell me…another doctor had to do that. She really was taken by Sadie and talking to her last night, she cried as she remembered this beautiful, regal gentle giant. This was hard for her, too.
What I loved is that they had to allow her to sit in their work area. She was too big for a crate. So they set Sadie up on a cozy bed, in the middle of the floor where they all worked tending to the other animals. They stopped to pet her and lay with her and she was loved and talked to 24/7….She was not set aside, she was front and center.
As I was about the leave the hospital, I hugged and thanked all the doctors and vet techs that worked so hard. I hugged them all and thanked them…and then my eyes moved to where she used to be….and I said, “There’s Sadie’s corner…” and the doctor said, “Yes, that’s Sadie’s corner.” At that moment, I knew that I would have a plaque made up for that spot in her honor.
Last night, I asked permission to do just that. Sadie’s doctor thought that was a wonderful idea:) I told her that when she saw the plaque, I wanted her to smile when she thought of Sadie, and not be sad. Sadie would have wanted it that way. I know she would.
So thank you all so much for your kind thoughts and well wishes. It will take some time to grieve my way through this…everywhere I look, I see her things…all her beds, her bully sticks, her huge basket of toys and bowls and stuff…..I can’t bring myself to put them away yet. Seems lonely in the bathroom without her cramming her big ass self in there to watch me go and keep me company. The potty experience is not the same without a Great Dane to help and keep you company.
For those that want to see the love that we are talking about, Chips actually allowed for me to have an entire thread. You can find a photo of her in the archives on TOD. She sure was a beautiful animal. She is free now…and smiling and running and sharing her awesome sense of humor with all the other creatures great and small. Love you, Bubba:)
I remember looking at this photo of Sadie for a long time when you first posted it, DF. It’s a work of art, subjects matter all perfect order. Today I have saved it to my photos, in honor of how much we all enjoyed the Life of Sadie, and agonised over the hard days with you. She’s okay now, bringing a lot of joy to Heaven, and will be waiting at the gate to greet us when we Cross! 🕯🕰♥️
(sheesh, please forgive my phone, I truly am humiliated by the kind of ‘corrections’ it makes, too fast for me to see! I’ll go slower from now on, I can’t take this) 😐😶
Only now finding out about your loss and want to say how sorry I am. I am a dog lover and owner too and caring for a wonderful little dog who has lupus.
DF, what a tribute to Sadie. Allow yourself time to grieve and have all the memories front and center. You will know when you are ready to move forward. Sadie will never be forgotten. She was very special. Know that we are sending you love and hugs.
What I love most about your post, other than making me feel like I was there too… and lying with Sadie (my mother’s name), is that you shared this with us, and while I’m typing this bawling my head off… it’s because there’s so much love involved. Sadie has wrapped me up in her love as well as countless strangers on the internet… I feel it. It’s palpable. And what a great legacy and life!! Thank you so much for this DF!!! I love you, I love Sadie, and I love that you shared this with all of us. Thank you. My heart is gloriously full. 😀
Good Saturday morning, TOD. I am watching AM Joy and am so sick at heart. I grew up the daughter of a Quaker Evangelical minister who was also the President of a small Quaker College and high school. I cannot fathom my father and mother supporting this President and Roy Moore, listening to the black minister on Joy suppotying Roy Moore is so discouraging. My Kansas cousin’s post on Facebook how they are glad Trump is President. What has happened to these Christians. I am so sick at heart. Scared for the moral fabric of our country.
So thankful for TOD and all you wonderful people out there. You all give me hope.
It is particularly galling that the “evangelical Christians” are the biggest group left supporting trump and moore. My father was also an evangelical minister, but I had to leave that group because of what has happened to them. I hope my father would not have been taken in by this crud, but he was a loyal Republican. I have read several articles that opine that this particular movement is bringing “Christians” into such disrepute, that there is no respect left, and the churches are losing members speedily. I too cannot believe this moral sickness I see. However, not everyone is taken in, and I happily found a church “Mainline” which is not scammed by this. I believe there are enough people of good moral character and strength in all walks of life and all communities that will help turn this horror around. I live in hope.
I do agree Carolyn. I too have found a wonderful UCC church. I also had to leave Evangelicals. I do have hope, just listening to that pastor really hit me in the gut.
Calling one’s self a Christian and actually doing Christ like things are two completely different things. How a minister can actually open up his mouth and say that he will support Moore or even say that they will vote for Moore is beyond discouraging, it is malpractice. Roy Moore with sound mind cruised the local mall in Alabama in search of minors, and on several occasions he achieved what he set out to do. And now the governor of Alabama has said that she will vote for Moore. Somewhere along the way our country has lost its moral compass, some say we never had a moral compass to begin with, but I disagree. The same country that voted for a black man to be its President surely can find its moral compass and shun Roy Moore.
I remember a Richard Pryor routine wherein he’s in an argument with this guy, and the guy says to Richard that he’s a Christian. Pryor’s reply to the guy is “So what, I got some s**t too.” So its like whenever someone tells me that they are a Christian I immediately think of Pryor.
Heard on the radio that there’s a protest rally of Alabama faith leaders now decrying Roy Moore’s immorality.
And here’s a Northern Ireland perspective (I know even less about evangelicals than Northern Ireland [and I know virtually nothing about Ireland or Northern Ireland 😦 ).
As someone who grew up in Northern Ireland this is absolutely, not at all, to no extent, in no way, shape, or form surprising. https://t.co/1sm0IS2PQb

— Anne Helen Petersen (@annehelen) November 11, 2025
What are evangelicals? Growing up, I thought the term only applied to born-again Christians, but since you referred to evangelical Quakers, I’m confused 😦 . BTW, my Twitter profile “peace never escalates” was something a Quaker friend-of-a-friend said in response to why Quakers are pacificts.
I am not sure what the accepted definition is. The Quaker church I grew up in was more modern than the original Quakers. The original Quakers it Friends Church as it is also called. Didn’t have music, the men sat on one side and some on the other. There was no minister, only silence till someone was led to speak. One thing they did do was women were on the same level as men. The church I grew up in had lots of music, we all sat together. We had a minister, but there was quiet time when anyone could stand and talk. Also we had many women ministers. My grandmother was a minister continued at the church after my grandfather died. I left the church when over many things, but I still love my heritage and feel they did help me become a strong women. Also I do believe in peace over war, but I am not totally against the military just to much war and destruction.
Thanks for the links. I so believe I always expanding my knowledge.
I agree Sheila. I thank the change happened in the 70s. By then we had moved from Kansas to California and my world expanded. Most of my friends and family in Kansas consider themselves Evangelicals and are racist, misogynis and unaccepting of others.
US tumbles from 1st in ranking of top nations to 6th. Trump & the Republican Party are to blame for this. “Trump’s America,” runs rampant with more corruption than ever. Just like every business venture he’s ever been involved in.#ImpeachTrump #AMJoyhttps://t.co/rZxVKA4QSO

It’s finally has happened. Sunny & Pleasant Chilly Afternoon. First Sun all week.
Congrats, J’OB on your Au ⭐ Furst 😉
Thanks, NW.
My personal apology to GGail who was deeply offended for an aerial Tweet of a male genitalia I had posted yesterday. I never meant to offend. Not my thing. TOD, I thought was a place we can all post, rant & share. I read a lot & when Time permits, I post here stories I envisioned most would like to read. Now, I can continue to post freely or Not. TODbots please express your preferences. I don’t generally read & post things that I find offensive.
❤ ❤ ❤ TODbots.
Nena, from the very beginning, Chips designed TOD to be a Blog with Class. I want it to remain just that. As Chips was famous for saying “there are other sites where such would be accepted”.
With the current person in the WH, it seems that sinking low is becoming the norm. Let’s not let that happen here,
Remain Classy please.
If it gives you pause to post, then don’t post it.
Thanks 🙂

THE TRUMP TAX CALCULATOR — WILL YOU PAY MORE OR LESS?
Both the House and Senate now have versions of the bill that President Trump labels the biggest tax cut in history. Here’s an estimate on how the legislation would affect you in the first year following its enactment.* …
The mortgage-interest deduction is limited, and state and local income tax deductions are zapped in both the House and Senate plan. The plan from the upper chamber also eliminates the state and local property tax deduction. …

Gerrymandering is the American Apartheid. The right squeezes minorities into a few districts. The left pressures those reps to focus on narrow group identity politics so few can become senator or governor.
I'm glad everyone is mocking this ridiculous @newyorker premise that nobody knew abt Trump and Wikileaks last year-only people in the dark were journalists https://t.co/eQQV1RMC4M
The typical BernieBro, they walk around with a satchel that holds a knife and a white towel so at any given moment they can cut off their nose to spite their face. Once their nose is cut off they display it prominently in the towel with blood and all for full effect.
I’m starting to wonder about all of these ham-handed attempts by Team Trump to reach out to Putin. It seems as though everyone from Trump’s butler to his most trusted confidant has a Russia fetish. With this group, Putin doesn’t have to lift a finger to do the dirty work because Team Trump is bending over backwards to reach out to Putin. Putin has to be exasperated by all the fuck ups by Team Trump. I’m starting to believe that Putin didn’t necessarily reach out to Trump as much as Trump wanted to reach out to Putin. If you’re the President and you wanted to reach out to Putin, why wouldn’t you send someone that specializes in this sort of thing? Its fucking armature hour down at the White House, it’s as though Trump couldn’t find anyone in the intelligence department to reach out to Putin quietly. Do you think that Bush or Clinton or Obama if they wanted to reach out to Putin they would fuck up this badly? Something else is going on here and I don’t have any idea what it is.
I think the whole thing started out for nefarious reasons, going back years. Trump wanted to extend his empire for reasons of fame and fortune and Putin wanted to begin to cultivate an idiot for his own long-term purposes, which included undermining democracy and NATO and eventually lifting sanctions due to the Magnitsky Act, which is costing Putin billions. And, perhaps most important of all, they also both had a need to launder a LOT of money, which bailed Trump out of many a tight situation.
Trump admires Putin a great deal because Putin is among the wealthiest people in the entire world. Putin also flatters him because he knows what a needy infant he is. So Trump proved a willing co-conspirator and eventually wound up in a position to do more - a LOT more. But Trump and his idiot circle of relatives and friends left a lot of tracks and screwed things up royally. And even though the RWNJs in Congress are also willing conspirators, they have drawn the line at lifting sanctions because that would just be TOO glaringly obvious a wet kiss to Putin.
I hope someday we will know the truth about how this all really happened. I think it’s going to be quite the story.
I imagine an exasperated Putin at the end of the day saying to himself in the confines of his office holding a vodka on the rocks, “these fucking guys.”
Assuming Trump hasn’t launched a nuclear war by then and we aren’t living in some mad max beyond thunderdome type situation. I’d even take John Kasich right about now, I mean he isn’t as crazy as Trump.
No, Jeff, you’re the party that tried to delegitimize the first duly elected African American President. Trump is something that lived inside the confines of those quiet rooms that Mitt Romney talked about. Trump’s only crime is that he spoke outside of those quiet rooms. Trump is the genie that ain’t going back inside the bottle.

What Will Become of California’s Progressivism If the Court Sides with Janus?
Gabriel Thompson
November 17, 2025
The Supreme Court is expected to side in Janus v. AFSCME against public-sector unions, a key force in bringing the state’s progressive ballot initiatives to victory.
………………………………………………………….
“The truth is, in the last 25 years, no major progressive proposition
has passed without labor being a primary donor,” said Kenneth Burt, who retired last month after spending two decades as the political director of the California Federation of Teachers (CFT). A 2012 study of public-sector union influence over California ballot initiatives since 1980, prepared by the conservative Manhattan Institute, came to the same conclusion. “Whenever a proposal was especially important to the unions,” its author wrote, “they almost always won.”
We have allowed our democracy to be exploited by Russia because of our OWN inexcusable ignorance of basic civics, national institutions, founding documents. Too many Americans don’t know how to think critically. https://t.co/of8bcMjFxD
The Russians also uploaded a thousand videos to YouTube and published more than 130,000 messages on Twitter about last year’s election. As recent congressional hearings showed, the arteries of our democracy were clogged with toxins from a hostile foreign power.
But the problem is not the Russians — it’s us. We’re getting played because too many Americans are ill equipped to perform the basic functions of citizenship. If the point of the Russian campaign, aided domestically by right-wing media, was to get people to think there is no such thing as knowable truth, the bad guys have won.
As we crossed the 300-day mark of Donald Trump’s presidency on Thursday, fact-checkers noted that he has made more than 1,600 false or misleading claims. Good God. At least five times a day, on average, this president says something that isn’t true.
This Is beyond absurd. Russia-Wikileaks-Trump collusion has been my 10am A and or B block on #AMJoy since at least last July. This story was fully knowable to all who could see past Her Emails. https://t.co/cl12Cc11cT
Just a note: when Obama passed ACA, Dodd Frank and tax increases on the wealthy, he didn't do it for a single donor's financial interest. This behavior is the province of one party. https://t.co/29LQpA7bob
But why should there be a double standard? Here is Tweeden sexually assaulting Robin Williams. To be objectified without wanting to be, MAY mean a victim. She is NOT a victim. She's a manipulator. They do exist. pic.twitter.com/ldTKMwNwZ7

Happy that you have such wonderful memories.
Not sure if this will show as I’m away from home, but I’ll join my voice to the others who are standing with you, Df, on the parting of Sadi
Wow, df, I’m so glad you were gifted with such a tremendous pet and likewise gifted with such loving and caring vets. You are special in every way.
DF, what a tribute to Sadie. Allow yourself time to grieve and have all the memories front and center. You will know when you are ready to move forward. Sadie will never be forgotten. She was very special. Know that we are sending you love and hugs.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
{{{ ❤ Sadie ❤ }}}
Missed & Loved by DF & Family.
Very appreciative you shared your story with Us.
Please be well.
RIP Azzedine Alaïa
I love these tweets…
What is so outrageous is that Roy Moore is not even asking for forgiveness nor is he contrite in any sort of way. Roy Moore is all guns ablaze.
As I have said just because someone say they are a christian, it does not mean they are.
GM MTM.
You’re right. evangelicals used to be called born again Christians.
I so believe I always expanding my knowledge.
the shift has come thru racism and white supremacy…and misogyny
I agree Sheila. I thank the change happened in the 70s. By then we had moved from Kansas to California and my world expanded. Most of my friends and family in Kansas consider themselves Evangelicals and are racist, misogynis and unaccepting of others.
For deserflower and her sweet Sadie, who is deeply loved. ❤️
LOVE THIS!
The old guy can dance.
Well let me take that back, I don’t how how old he is. But he can dance.
Somebody’s pop got it going on!
Amen

I love ACDC.
I have loved their Music for Decades.
Sad to read that Malcolm Young, one of the Founders of the Group, has passed on. I realized that he’s been ill for at least 2yrs with dementia. I had not anticipated that he would succumb to the disease this quickly.
RIP, Malcolm…..your Music lives on. 64yo, way too darn young.

A BernieBro talking shyt about what ‘ Jones hasn’t done’.
The man PUT THE KLAN IN JAIL IN ALABAMA.
As a Black voter, what else do I need to know about him?
The typical BernieBro, they walk around with a satchel that holds a knife and a white towel so at any given moment they can cut off their nose to spite their face. Once their nose is cut off they display it prominently in the towel with blood and all for full effect.
sounds like sabotage….i think that is Bernie’s role and that of his surrogates….to create confusion and chaos…in the name of being a progressive..
Professionals vs. Greedy Amateurs.
Rikyrah you might be right, maybe I’m looking at this too hard. Maybe at the end of the day Trump is nothing more than a greedy amateurish pig.
OH NO DON,
They are crooked and filthy, and traitorous. But, that doesn’t make them any less amateurish.
The two who KNEW what they were doing was illegal were FLYNN AND SESSIONS. They KNOW what they were doing was Illegal. Race Bannon too.
The rest of them didn’t care, because they haven’t had to care their entire lives.
If one person has to go down in this group other than Trump, I want it to be Sessions, Sessions is pure evil.
I’m with you on Attorney General White Citizens Council
Yeah, that and I’m also wondering who he’s chosen for our next president.
Assuming Trump hasn’t launched a nuclear war by then and we aren’t living in some mad max beyond thunderdome type situation. I’d even take John Kasich right about now, I mean he isn’t as crazy as Trump.
Ditto.
A Useful Idiot is what Trump has always been to Russia & Putin knew this.
Dude, you already are.
You are on FIRE today Sir. BRAVO!

Booooooooom!!!!

Is this beginning to look Fishy to anyone here?
Too many of these incidents are happening within the Navy. Not to be a conspiracy pusher, but I swear I think maybe “somebody” has hacked into our electronic navigational systems.
Indeed.
