WoooooOOOOOOooooooOOOOOoootttt!
Good Morning TOD family
Just catching up on all the posts. I wanted to comment briefly on the tension from last night.
We cannot control what the MSM. WH Press office, or Republicans do.
We can only control how we react to their actions.
I hope we will always choose to react in a way that offers support to each other and attacks the real enemy.
I also hope we will realize that there can be different approaches to the same situation. For example….. after hearing Rachel talk about Ron Paul, some folks will say “i will never watch her again”, others will defend her, and still others will pushback on twitter, email, or phone. All 3 responses have merit and we need to be able to respect each other as we decide what approach works best for us.
We also need to avoid making it personal…. If I disagree with your response, I am not criticizing you as a person or as a supporter of the president. I am just stating that your way of dealing with the issue does not work for me.
With that said I offer this list of options for CALLS TO ACTION for this morning.
Contact Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and thank them for their courage to stand firm in the face of Republican obstructionism
If you live in a district with a Republican Congressional representative contact them and let them know how you feel.
Contact Rachel Maddow with articles about Ron Paul. This can work. Remember how she walked back her comments on how the President didn’t want the NY gay marriage act to pass? We can make a difference.
On twitter, Facebook, blogs, fax, and email spread around these short and simple phrases.
Republicans in Congress are holding the middle class hostage
Republicans don’t support a middle class tax cut
The Tea Party Rs robbed you at Christmas and Ebenezer Boehner let them do it.

My final comment is this…….
We are doing a VERY hard thing. Fighting Republican lies, taking on the media, and choosing hope over fear is TOUGH. We need to forgive ourselves if we occasionally get “crabby”. At the end of the day we are a family and family always hangs together, {{ virtual hug }}.
THIS!!!!
Your comment is perfect! It creates a great deal of tension working to stay ahead of the next onslaught. I’ll keep repeating “choosing hope over fear” from now on whenever my stomach knots start up. Thank you. P.S. Your efforts are similar to a website I was directed to at Case Western Reserve Univ. called “appreciative inquiry”. Its powerful.
HI Cuphalfful
I just found the website and listened to a video from the site, this is a great resource and one I will visit again when I have more time. Thanks for sharing it.
You are wonderful WiW. Thanks so much for your work.
WIW, you have put into words how I feel. Thank you. It is so hard right now for us. I do feel the White House needs to be out there more and more Democrats but I have no control over that. All I can do is call, write and twit and other things. Coming to the TOD family helps me realize I am not alone and there are other people out there who feel like I do and are working towards the same end. We may not all do the same thing but that’s okay too. We all care about the country, we love and respect this President and I believe we all have respect and love for each other. I am off to call my Repub congressman Rehberg.
Well said what is working. I always admire the way you steadfastly go about the business at hand, without fanfare, very pro-actively…and you do so much! My two cents is that pro-activity gets us everywhere, whereas negativity gets us nowhere, plus the fact that we quibble everyday about the media, yet we all know already how they behave,no news here,But isn’t it more important that we talk about what we are going to do to fight them, without hostility among ourselves. Plus, when we do it we feel so empowered! let’s press on smartly! Forward!
WiW I totally agree with you, we have to focus on who the realy enemies are, we need to respect
each other anybody reaction are diferent some times when people react to something they do like
can become counter productive i guess.
G’day all. And a thank you WiW for your wise council. The next time i get revved-up to swim in shark infested waters i’ll think of you and stay in the boat.
Linda once again you offer sane, inclusive and constructive action for how to deal with the rare conflict that we experience here at TOD. I will take your advice to heart. thank you
as soon as i can manage it today I’m going to put to work your suggestions.
thanks again!!!
” At the end of the day we are a family and family always hangs together, {{ virtual hug }}.” WIW, Thank you so much for your wisdom!
Now for another story about an OFA volunteer who is making a difference
Stacy. Franklin and Cahuenga. Chocolate Coconut.
Just writing that title made me hungry……
http://www.whatisworking.com/2011/12/stacy-franklin-and-cahuenga-chocolate.html
If you are not already an OFA volunteer, please consider joining. Whatever issue is stopping you can be resolved. It feels so great to work on OFA, everyone I have met is warm, friendly, and in line with my values. The biggest plus is that doing something is the best medicine against frustration and worry.
WIW, after the holidays I will have a one-on-one with an OFA representative. I am going to get my retired brother signed up to give him something to do. He volunteers at the polling place and would make a terrific OFA volunteer. Thank you for keeping things positive!
Good for you Jojo - it means so much when just one person joins the organization.
There’s live coverage too at the Pentagon site:
http://www.pentagonchannel.mil/
I have to leave so I’m not going to be able to watch this live. I sincerely hope there will be video later.
If anyone is interested, here is LIVE link to Piers Morgan testifying: http://video.msnbc.msn.com/nbc-news-live/45736067#null
Is he asking the questioners what they think of President Obama yet? Piers is a one-trick-pony hustler, who may just be “caught” at this point.
….or, “did President Obama put you up to this?”
Irritating as usual Alex Wagner—-does her dad or uncle own Comcast/NBC? —-would explain her job there—-just read that President Obama would be at Andrews for a ceremony recognizing the return of the FLOG from Iraq—-not a good reader, not a good thinker either. She also added that Obama was supposed to be on the beach in Hawaii now, so it was real lucky that he was around for this event. Yes, thank you nice thoughtful House Teapublicans.
She said last week that PBO wanted to get to Hawaii so he could “hula”. When Meghan McCain is on her show the combined IQ is negative.
Alex is actually a real progressive. She just refuses to play one on TV, which goes to show that these pundits get their marching orders or they don’t have a job. I’ve heard her on Bill Maher and she’s an articulate, passionate progressive, which makes the pandering to Republican memes even more egregious.
Once a person crosses a line, it changes them, makes that line much easier to cross the next time. This Alex has crossed a line where she thinks making catty, insulting, derogatory comments about her President is ok, even entertaining. If a person feels they can demean the highest office of the land, and also feel that they don’t need to respect a man who has been nothing but dignified and honourable - then they have lost their core. Alex may be following orders, but she’s prioritized that job over her integrity. And her fawning over Meghan McCain just solidifies my disgust of her and her decision to betray her integrity. She can’t be proud of the work she’s doing.
Obama to Romney and the Republicans leave the middle class and poor alone.
Another Mittens whine. He should stay in private enterprise.
Did you hear this guy? ‘President Obama attacks one American after another’. His idea of Americans? Insurance Companies and Wall Street? Holy Cow!
Good grief that was bad.

Hi, friends — I’ve been reading posts regularly and comments infrequently since my work-life speeded up; de-lurking to report that last night I got a robo-call from a “Draft Hillary in 2012″ organization. I was so gobsmacked that I didn’t make a note of the website they mentioned.
Have other people gotten this message? Have you’all (more than likely) discussed it already? I can’t believe it’s connected with Secretary Clinton directly. But who knew the PUMAs were still out there hunting???
Apparently, it’s two fools - one is Pat Caddell (sp?) - pushing that. Yes, it was discussed on yesterday’s threads, as others received the robo-calls, too.
Just crazy people trying to divide Democrats. Pay it no mind - but you might want to get the word out to folks you know, to ignore it.
That anyone would think Hillary would have been more left than Obama is absurd. The CLintons love to talk like progressives when they are campaigning but have never governed that way — ever. Hillary would ‘kick butt’? And get exactly what? Next to the black guy, Republicans hate HIllary CLinton more than any other living soul.
THIS. Not a day would go by that one of HRC’s talk tough moments wouldn’t be followed by a Republican implying that she can’t handle the job because she is a woman or on her period, or menopausal or emotional or whatever sickness ails us women folk.

Indeed dotster. No wonder the thugs are freaking out.
Oh, Chips, another good poll out today. CNN poll just released a minute ago has PBO at 49% approval and beating Romney 52-45.
And there’s this:
Obama’s gains have come at the expense of the Republicans in Congress and the GOP in general. By a 50% to 31% margin, people questioned say they have more confidence in the president than in congressional Republicans to handle the major issues facing the country. Obama held a much narrower 44% to 39% margin in March.
And the GOP’s overall favorable rating has dropped to six points, to 43%, since June, while the Democrats’ positive rating remained steady at 55%.
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/12/20/cnn-poll-presidents-approval-nearing-50/
CNN poll has one thing, and what was Gallup? All I have to say is we don’t need to worry about polls, just get out to vote 2012.
POD I couldn’t hear you from all that OBAMAMOMENTUM…
LOL
I that were a Gallup poll, they would call it a tie between Obama and Romney. All these non-Gallup polls are showing how biased Gallup really is.
CNN is up live without audio….Nothing at the Pentagon Channel yet.
Weird
I know….I’m also streaming politico (GAG) hoping they have audio.
The pentagon channel that Chips linkyed has audio
Oh no—about every other time I write a comment with a link, it becomes lost in space. What in the world?
Now its being reported that The GOP CONGRESS is going on recess unless the senate comes back. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH WITH THIS BULLSHIT. (excuse my language) I am so sick of this crap. Obama needs to hold a press conference and tell the american people that the HOUSE will be responsible for your taxes going up. He needs to tell the SENATE to stay on vacation and that he will be leaving to go on his hawaill christmas break and if the GOP congress decides to act responsibly than he will return. CALL THEIR BLUFF!! STOP CAVING TO THEM NOW> STAND UP and TELL THEM TO GO TO HELL!!
No worries Kinona, I found your comment. You had a typo in your email address so that’s why it didn’t go through!
Kinona,we are trying very hard to NOT USE words like cave for 2012. Thanks, much.
Thanks Ladyjazz.. That word here should be considered poisonous, not to mention premature, presumptive, impatient, uncourageous, and overall immature.
Yeppers. Not to pick on people but when I see the word cave used in reference to PBO it takes everything I have not to go off. I’m extremely sick of seeing it.
Again, not picking on anyone in particular but it’s just not helpful at this point when we all need to be all hands on deck.
OBAMA NEEDS TO???? AND ITS PRESIDENT OBAMA…THANK YOU VERY MUCH
Thank you. I was just going to say that. When will people stop telling the POTUS and a grown man what he needs to do. If you must, I would suggest you make your request to whitehouse.gov.
Also, why is it that everytime the radicals in the house do something stupid, people direct their anger at PBO and the Dems. They are doing the right things for the country. It’s the republicans and people who support them who deserve your wrath.
Guess we better remove all our OBAMA signs. The President would sure be upset with us if we left them on our bumper stickers. Lack of repsect, ya know. Too snooty to care about re-election.
Well, I guess if you’re brave enough to go into a war zone, your knees won’t buckle when you step off the plane and have to salute your Commander in Chief, but I’d have to be carried off! Welcome home to our troops!
I was thinking the same thing - the first person you see on US soil is the lovely President Obama! Some of them looked like their knees wanted to fail them. Very nice moment.
I haven’t cried yet, watching this, but I’m sure I will before it’s over.

Great Plains snowstorm kills 6, strands hundreds
December 20, 2025 11:23
Heavy snow and strong winds swept across the Great Plains Tuesday, causing road accidents and stranding hundreds of pre-holiday travelers.
“Blizzard and winter storm warnings are in effect for the northern Texas panhandle, the Oklahoma panhandle and much of central and western Kansas,” said the National Weather Service, warning that travel in the region would be “quite treacherous.” At least six deaths had been reported by Tuesday morning, according to the Associated Press.

Hope you all don’t mind me re-posting this from the previous thread…
I received this today:
Great news!
Over the weekend, the President signed the final funding bill for FY 2012, which was approved by Congress on Saturday. Included in this bill is level funding of $445 million for public broadcasting through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and level funding of $27.2 million for Ready To Learn, which funds public television programming and services for kids. In these tough economic times, these funding levels are a real testament to the vitality of public broadcasting.
You Did It
This year’s success in securing funding for local public television and radio stations wouldn’t have happened without you. You called and emailed your Members of Congress, and they responded. They listened to you, one of the 170 million Americans who connect with public broadcasting each month, telling them that local public radio and television programs and services are critical.
Richard Dreyfus provides some food thought about personal responsibility and the state of society…

Nevada Court: ‘Personhood’ measure would limit healthcare access, not just abortion
Posted on Tuesday, December 20, 2011, 7:30 am by Paddy
Abortion-rights supporters cheered a Nevada judge’s determination Monday that controversial “personhood” proposals would limit women’s access to basic healthcare services. Critics of the personhood approach argue that it goes far beyond abortion, and some social conservatives agree. A judge lent further support to that argument Monday by rewriting a proposed ballot initiative in Nevada.

Has anyone been paying attention to the floor of the House today? They are voting on “extending payroll tax cut” on C-Span, but all the Dems are voting nay. What did Boehner throw into the mix? Would anyone know the latest? I’m watching/listening to the ceremony and cannot bring myself to listen to C-Span, in place of that.
I believe they’re only voting to send the bill to Conference, which would allow the GOP to avoid registering a “no” vote on the bill, which may possibly pass if voted on today. More games from the GOP. Dems promised to block that vote for conference, and Senator Reid said last night that he won’t negotiate until they pass the two month measure, which Boehner had asked for. It’s about to get interesting…
Thanks. Momentarily lost where they were in the non-process - which is nowhere, I see. But, you are right, it’s about to get interesting.
Thanks for the update theo67!
Gov. Rick Snyder signs bills lowering worker benefits, costs
Published: Monday, December 19, 2011, 10:08 PM
Michigan employers are likely to save money on unemployment insurance and worker’s compensation under changes signed into law Monday by Gov. Rick Snyder. Critics, though, said the moves could make it more difficult for injured and jobless workers to get the benefits they need.
The measures require some unemployed workers to take new jobs after 10 weeks of benefits even if the available work is outside their previous experience or pays lower wages than they were making before. They also make it harder for someone to collect jobless benefits if they’re fired for cause or leave a job voluntarily.
The new requirements come on top of an earlier law that cuts the length of time that jobless workers can get state unemployment benefits from the current 26 weeks to 20 weeks starting with new applicants in January.

You reap what you voted for. Or did not vote for as the case may be. MI, of all states, voting in a rethug is unpardonable sin and are now paying for it.
Anybody heard a peep out of Michael Moore as his home state gets ravaged from within?
I live in MI and I could not agree more. I voted and have been voting since I was 18 years old and I just don’t understand people who don’t vote regularly. I will say this the Democrat did not run a particularly great campaign and Snyder ran ads touting him as this friendly, nerdy type, businessman who wouldn’t hurt a fly and some people bought that bs while others did not vote at all. I always vote for the Democrat because I know anything that comes out of a Republican’s mouth is a damn lie.
Why don’t we just round up all of our “injured and jobless workers” and take them to an orphanage, because the hateful and disaffected part of the American family has surely deserted them.
It’s infuriating. If these GOP were to enact the same “merit” conditions for their pay and benefits, they’d be stripped naked and marched through the streets.
And who would want to see them naked?
(Sorry - couldn’t resist.)
My sincere apologies for even putting that image out there!
Rep. Yarmuth Introduces Constitutional Amendment To Overturn Citizens United |
By Travis Waldron on Dec 20, 2025 at 11:00 am
Reps. John Yarmuth (D-KY) and Walter Jones (R-NC) introduced legislation today that would overturn key provisions of the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision that gutted campaign finance law and led to a flood of corporate money and influence into American politics, Louisville public radio station WFPL reports. The legislation would amend the Constitution to establish that campaign contributions do not amount to free speech — the key tenet of Citizens United — and would allow Congress to establish a viable public financing system that would be the only source of funding for federal elections. “Until we get big money out of politics, we will never be able to responsibly address the major issues facing American families,” Yarmuth said in a release. “And that starts by ensuring our elections and elected officials cannot be bought by the well-off and well-connected.”

VIDEO: New Iowa Frontrunner Thinks Medicare, Paper Money And Nearly Everything Else Is Unconstitutional
By Jeff Spross and Ian Millhiser on Dec 20, 2025 at 9:50 am
Should the GOP primary electorate ultimately choose Paul as their nominee, however, it would be the clearest possible sign that they want to remake this country into a much meaner and more cruelly indifferent nation than the one nearly all Americans grew up in. Rep. Paul does not simply want to repeal most of the 20th Century, he believes that nearly everything America does is unconstitutional. ThinkProgress compiled video of just a few of Paul’s many claims that basic laws and essential programs violate the Constitution. A short list includes Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the National Labor Relations Board, the Federal Reserve, income taxes, and even the dollar bill.
To see the new Iowa GOP frontrunner claim that all of these things violate the Constitution — and to learn which seven cabinet departments he also believes are unconstitutional — watch our video here:

GOP In 2011: Anything But Jobs
==========================
As such, the GOP, particularly in the House, has spent its legislative time on anything and everything but measures to help the struggling economy get back on its feet or to spur job creation. Instead, they’ve introduced bill after bill on hot-button issues, particularly women’s reproductive health; they’ve dragged the economy to the brink of disaster by playing political games with the debt ceiling; they’ve done their best to undermine the social safety net by proposing cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and food stamps; and they’ve tried over and over to repeal or deny funding to the landmark Affordable Care Act.

Ladyhawke, this should be spread far and wide. Thank you for posting it!~
This country would be thriving if we had a Democratic Congress. It’s sickening to think what that 2010 election brought us.
This is an issue that I care about deeply, and have been trying to enlist family and friends to help out in any way possible. I know that many people are having a rough time in this economy, but you’d be surprised at the little things that can be done to help. The personal circumstances of these children, and their families, are horrible but President Obama is working hard to ensure the eradication of homelessness in this country. What will happen to these children if a Republican wins the White House in the coming election? That thought lingers in my mind and moves me to fight harder…however I’m able to.~
Homeless Kids in US Number 1.6 Million: Study
Sourced from Agence France-Presse
Posted at December 20, 2011, 8:41 am
Fully 1.6 million children in the United States — one in 45 kids — were homeless last year, living in shelters, cars, abandoned buildings and parks, a study released Monday found. With youth homelessness surging 28 percent since 2007 amid tough economic times, the National Center on Family Homelessness called its study a “call to action for all of us to address child homelessness before we lose another generation.”
The situation is grim nationally, but even worse in many states. Half of all US homeless kids live in six US states, and among the worst hit of all were Georgia, Alabama and California, the most populous US state. Of the children affected, 42 percent were under the age of six, and a third of them were living with single mothers with chronic illnesses, the study found.

Vigil in Waco protests immigration detention system, private prisons
By Teddy Wilson
Tuesday, December 13, 2025 at 1:00 pm
In Waco, a group of activists from around the state gathered to hold a vigil in honor of International Human Rights Day. Bob Libal of Grassroots Leadership told the Texas Independent that they “chose to honor International Human Rights Day by raising awareness about the devastating impact of detention and deportation on immigrants and their families,” said Libal. “Texas has more than 10,000 immigrant detention beds, more than any other state, so we felt the need to do this vigil here in Texas.”
As the overall prison population has grown in the United States, so has the number of people housed in private prisons. According to the Justice Policy Institute’s analysis of federal statistics, the number of people in privately-run prisons has increased by 353.7 percent since 1996. A significant portion of the private prison population is undocumented immigrants who are being detained, while their cases move through the immigration system.

What Others Have Said About a Payroll Tax Cut for Businesses:
*The Congressional Budget Office estimates that an employer payroll tax cut is one of the most effective job creators. (January 2010).
*The National Federation of Independent Business has said that a payroll tax holiday for small businesses “would … [help] struggling businesses reduce costs… Eliminating the payroll tax can reduce unemployment and keep people working during a period of slowed economic growth. ” (April 2009).
*In 2010, fifty House Republicans – including Michelle Bachmann and Select Committee on Deficit Reduction member Jeb Hensarling – co-sponsored legislation to halve employer- and employee-side payroll tax cuts, and expand allowances for business expensing, along the lines of the President’s plan.
*Senator Orrin Hatch, the top Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, said he would “probably be for” an employer-side payroll tax cut (June 8, 2025).

Romney: If You Don’t Like Bain Layoffs, Go Back To Moscow
Benjy Sarlin December 20, 2011, 11:46 AM
Mitt Romney, under fire from his Republican rivals for laying off workers as CEO of Bain Capital, says critics of his jobs record are flirting with communism. “If someone thinks they can find a way that every enterprise that one invests in becomes… all are successful, why they’re not living in a free enterprise system, they’re living in a system like the old Soviet Union where the government insists that everybody adds employment every year and ultimately the economy suggests that the people become poorer,” Romney said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Tuesday. “I believe that free enterprise works and that the other models have been proven to be failures time and time again, and I was surprised to have Newt Gingrich pick up the story line that came from Barack Obama and the DNC and go on the attack against free enterprise.”

Can’tor is talking tough because I read rumors that he might be considered for VP.
Gag.
From a political decision it would make no sense. He is very unlikeable, and his only base comes from the “the young guns” or whatever they call thermselves…
This may be another reason why Cantor is talking tough…
E. Wayne Powell, 7th Congressional District of Virginia: I plan to take my campaign directly to the people, and my fight directly to Mr. Cantor who keeps himself as far away as he can from those he is supposed to serve. My ultimate goal is to try to help him fulfill his pledge “to fix Washington…” In my view, and I believe the majority of the voters of the 7th district, “fixing” Washington, would be in large part accomplished by defeating Eric Cantor. But I cannot do this alone. I need your help and money to compete with his machine.

Who Protects Info You Give To Offshored Call Centers?
Written by: David Johnson
Today many call-center jobs are being moved out of the country to India and the Philippines. This costs American jobs, and can be very frustrating to consumers who have to speak to people who they cannot understand because of language problems or cultural differences. The The U.S. Call Center Worker and Consumer Protection Act gives consumers the right to ask where the person they are speaking with is based, and ask for an American-based representative instead.
Not JUST Jobs Lost — Data Privacy Is Lost, Too The Communications Workers of America today released a sobering report detailing the linkage between the off-shoring of call center jobs and a range of serious negative effects on U.S. consumers and job seekers, including placing consumers’ personal information at risk. Key findings of the report include:

Small Biz Owner In Walker Ad Actually a Billionaire Outsourcer, Member of China Business Council
“Chris” is Chris Rebholz, owner of TriStar Products, a company specializing in outsourcing jobs to China. TriStar Products makes all of the useless items you see on TV infomercials…and they make them in China. In fact, Rebholz likes working with China so much that he is on the China Business Council.
The problem with being a 1% flunky is that you only gain support from the 1%, leaving 99% of Wisconsinites wondering if their Governor has their best interests in mind. Having a billionaire who has made his money outsourcing jobs to China does little to strengthen Walker’s case. But hey, Walker and Rebholz are a match made in Heaven. After all, Rebholz is familiar with recalls, too. In 2007 his Hulk Hogan Ultimate Grill was recalled for being a fire hazard.
Did you hear that stupid ass question from that stupid witch Nora O”Donnell. I wish these fools would understand that this President is fighting for the American people, not himself.
And you wonder why Walker only refers to these puppets in his ads by their first names.
MoveOn is claiming they need to raise $400K by the end of the year to keep afloat.
That’s one more time I’d really like to see the cash given to homeless people. They’re too inconsistent (in their full support for President Obama) for me. I realize, however, that sometimes they do good stuff.
Love the pic from today PBO welcoming troops home. The MSM is ignoring this. It’s a BFD.
Ahhhhh, PBO takes the podium!!!!!!
Realclearpolitics.com Caught Manipulating Polls

Sorry for the Kos link…..but they were the ones who caught Gallup manipulating the polls last year and also sued Research 2000 (who used to do their polling for similar reasons )
We cannot trust the polling services or companies at all.
POTUS just walked into the briefing room.
Great isn’t it? You can tell he is bringing his experience from the ceremony he just attended welcoming home the troops into his words right now.
Guess what? Doug Scohen works for Americans ELECT AS A SENIOR ADVISER.
Now it’s all starting to make sense!
Good job connecting the dots… and following the money trail, Jovie!~
What if AE candidate is a write in candidate of Hillary?
Hmmmm!
I don’t believe that they would structure it as a write-in.

Pres. Obama signs Executive Order establishing a National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security
Posted by Eclectablog at 9:36 AM| Monday, December 19, 2025
This morning, President Obama signed an Executive Order establishing a National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security. You can read the Executive Order HERE (pdf) and the comprehensive plan itself HERE (pdf). This is the part of the Executive Order that is most compelling for me:
~snip~
I’m particularly enamored of these parts: The goal is as simple as it is profound: to empower half the world’s population as equal partners in preventing conflict and building peace in countries threatened and affected by war, violence and insecurity. Achieving this goal is critical to our national and global security (from the U.S. National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security.)
The U.S. National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security embodies and sets forth the United States’ commitment to ensuring that women around the world play an equal role in promoting peace and achieving just and enduring security. Today and in the years to come, the Obama Administration dedicates itself to bringing the ideas behind the National Action Plan to life in pursuit of this essential goal (from the Fact Sheet.)
This is more than just words or simple pandering to a specific group. This meaningful action and the Obama administration is to be commended for it.

Good for Tamron Hall, who horrible Jack Kingston called Tam RON, for blowing up at the Repub congressman when he said we should forget about all the accusations about Repubs playing politics, that we should mix up some egg nog, put in the movie “It’s a Wonderful LIfe” and enjoy!
Who cares about dumb tax hikes on the middle class? Unbelievable, these Repubs. They are repugnant.
On the Fox video I posted above, Gretchin is ranting and raving about the payroll tax cut and how it should create jobs. Forget the fact that she said NOTHING about the Bush tax cuts, this is a free $1000 to help families during a time when the economy is beginning to recover. Who would have thought that the hard right would finally find a tax cut they opposed?
The Republicans are hitting the airwaves.
No democrats after Schumer made an appearance at 8 am!
It is so predictable and sad!
Why should they? The media caters to Republicans anyhow. I’d rather stick to the Dems appearing on CSPAN and making local media appearances where their message won’t be distorted by corporate MSM noise.
Just an observation. I actually think the democrats have the upper hand.
You’re right about that—-other than President Obama, it’s all Republicans on the airwaves. Here’s Boehner with his weak excuses.
The Repubs are in damage control mode. They know that President Obama is calling them out for playing political games as opposed to helping the American people.
And Orange Boner? I expect him to weep and give a slurred response about how it’s all Obama and Reid’s fault.
This is what I meant yesterday. The Dems have to hit hte airwaves with FORCE and REPEAT the fact that Dems alreayd negotiated a deal. It can’t always be PBO doing it all by himself!
You saw Chris Cilizza today try to say “Why don’t you just come back to the table?” Steny Hoyer hemmed and hawed. JUST SAY WE GAVE CONCESSIONS ALREADY. THERE IS NOTHING LEFT TO NEGOTIATE WITH THE TIME LEFT!
That is what he said. I saw that interview.
Yep. Hoyer kinda grimaced and then laughed, like “is this guy serious”. Cilliza is a clown talking about “why won’t the two sides work together”. What the fuck? That’s what Dems have been doing and have gotten hammered by the left because of it!@
DUHHHHH
I’m so sick of the “both sides” bullshit.
Boner just made 8 negotiators to the conference.
Democrats have not named any.
It seems Republicans are panicking!
So Orange Boner names negotiators to negotiate the negotiations that have already been negotiated. Orange Boner has surpassed Gingrich as the worst House Speaker ever!
Newton Leroy is a horrible person of no character, but his IQ is double Orange Boner’s.
You’re making me cry again Chips, with these pics.
Unreal. Boner gets road blocked coverage on his presser, even bloomberg and cnbc has him on.
The press loves to allow the republicans ti get their message out
Oh gross—it’s a big laugh fest with Boehner and the Repubs and the press——Boner said he needs the president to help out and the Repub contingent shouted “Yaaaaayyyyyyy”—-loudly—- and laughed hilariously.
Now he’s asking for the President’s help? Has he forgotten how he virtually told the President to take a hike during the debt ceiling fight?
Orange Boner is one despicable human being!
A wink and a fist bump from OUR President.
I’m good.
Republicans are freaking out because of this payroll tax cut fight, and how it’s going to come back and haunt them next year in the general election.
President Obama’s approvals are going up because more people are realizing what he has to deal with: politicians on both sides wanting to score political points as opposed to taking care of the American people. From what I heard, the Orange Boner Teapug Congress just lost two approval points, from 9% to 7%. People know who to blame, and a majority are beginning to blame more Republicans and less on President Obama.
John Boehner’s House Divided Is About To Fail 160 Million Americans
In June 1858, Abraham Lincoln gave a speech that included a line that became the title of his address when he sought a seat as a United States Senator. Lincoln said, “A house divided against itself cannot stand,” and although he was referring to the slavery issue, his comment is apropos to today’s Congressional Republicans, and by extension America itself. At the rate they are proceeding, and with Congress’s approval ratings at record lows (11%), it appears the GOP is fracturing into a dysfunctional group that is doing everything in their power to destroy itself, the middle class, and tens-of-millions of Americans living in poverty. The latest split between different factions within the GOP in Congress is over extending the payroll tax cut and unemployment benefit extensions.
The temporary deal worked out between Senate Republicans and Democrats faces rejection by House Republicans because John Boehner is an ineffective leader and staunch protector of the richest 1% of Americans. Boehner had insisted earlier that Senators Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell work out a compromise to extend the payroll tax cut so the House could vote and pass it before the Christmas recess. Although the Senate deal only extended the extension for two months, at least it gives 160 million hardworking Americans relief until Republicans can hold the extensions hostage again in February. However, a deal to extend the payroll tax cut and unemployment benefit extensions could have been resolved in short order had the House and Senate passed a clean bill paid for with a minute surtax on millionaires and billionaires.

I see people on twitter are saying things like “friends don’t let friends give news conferences when they’ve been drinking”, Boehner’s eyes glassy.
KEEP THE PRESSURE ON MR. PRESIDENT!
House GOP To Raise Taxes On The Middle Class Then Head Home For Christmas
Not only will House Republicans not vote on the Senate passed payroll tax cut extension, but they will be going home for Christmas after they raise taxes on 160 million Americans.
Last night, Speaker John Boehner said, “Our members do not want to just punt and do a two-month short-term fix where we have to come back and do this again. We’re here. We’re willing to work. We will appoint conferees and we hope the Senate will appoint conferees because we’re willing to get the work done now and do it the right way.”
Apparently, this willingness to work does not apply to Christmas. Roll Call is reporting,
House Republicans are planning to leave for the Christmas holiday Tuesday afternoon after voting on a Senate proposal for a two-month extension of the payroll tax cut.

Hi everyone, new post here:
http://theobamadiary.com/2011/12/20/do-the-right-thing/
There is no way that the Senate Republicans would pass a bill with almost 100% Senate Republican agreement and have themselves cut off at the knees by the House Republicans. Worst case scenario for President Obama is that he gets to do a one year extension on taxes and unemployment insurance, which he wanted to do in the first place. With only eleven days left, the House and the Senate must now rush to come up with something to please President Obama. If I were him I’d make them throw in the closing of Gitmo as a sweetener.
President Obama looks depressed.
I like when the President walk in on Jay Carney press conference today while Ed Henry was asking a question.
In the photo with the president, vp and a female officer laughing, you can tell the Joe made a joke PBO laughed and she laughed because she’s thinking these two are nuts together.
