****

President Barack Obama gives a thumbs up after signing the Violence Against Women Act as he is joined by Vice President Joe Biden and members of women’s organizations, law enforcement officials, tribal leaders, survivors, advocates and members of Congress, at the Interior Department on March 7, 2013. The law strengthens the criminal justice system’s response to crimes against women, including domestic violence, sexual assault and trafficking

We Stand with Pres. Obama!
Congrats, CM!
Thank you Allison!
Yes we do. Congrats CarolMae on #1
Thanks Hopefruit!
Can’t wait to see President Obama!
I’m so glad this law is finally getting re-authorized, but also upset that it became yet another political game to the GOP.
Oh, and I just left this post in the other thread:
When you have the time, you might be interested in checking out this old lecture that then-state senator Barack Obama gave back in 1999 at Carleton College during Black History Month. It’s about 1 hr, 45 minutes, and includes a Q and A session at the end. I haven’t listened to all of it yet, but it’s really interesting (and consistent with how he explains things today). You get a glimpse of what a Professor Obama would have sounded like.
http://apps.carleton.edu/events/convocations/audio_video/?item_id=443057&show_transcript=true&av_file_id=443029
Thank you for this..
Thanks.
Edit for clarity: it’s about 1 hr long and the clips are split into 6 audio files.
Thank you, Jamila! I haven’t paused to listen yet, but I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE anything that gives me a ‘hindsight’ view of this President so it’s like a treat I’m holding onto for just the right moment. I know I won’t be disappointed.
This is GREAT. Never met anyone that is so consistent. He evolved in a few things but stayed true to what he is..
April Ryan wants to know how the sequester is impacting the White House staff. Also asks if the Easter Egg Roll will still take place. One jackal chimes in with why is the Easter Egg Roll still planned but the tours are cancelled. Jay send them to the Secret Service for details.
good hawaii morning chips and tods! just saying hello, before i go back and see what you’ve been chatting about. hope everybody’s well in this fine obama ohana!
Hi, Susanne!
When you go back do make some notes so you can share with me later - I’ve skipped quite a bit.
okay-pbo loves nutella!
He does? Oh dear, he’s going to get his first negative point from me. How CAN he like that brown stuff?
looks yucky to me, but i can’t throw stones-i like marmite.
Nutella & marmite??// Okay, that’s it. The two of you have been crossed off my lunch/snack guest list.
but but cheesy puffs! i love cheesy puffs!
All’s good then, Susanne, ……over at Chips’ saloon. I don’t do cheesy puffs either.
Come to think of it, what do I do? I’d best come over to your place for some of that desert thingy you were making with the kids a while back.
excellent plan. plus, i’m in hawaii-glorious, sunny, warm, birthplace of our president!
Have you every tasted it??? Chocolate and hazelnut butter! Divine!!!!!!! The man continues to give proof of his superior taste.
No, I haven’t Maryl, but in truth I’m not a great fan of chocolate - find it interesting only if it has nuts (not butter) in it. I’ll watch while you and PBO enjoy it and I won’t be the least bit tempted to taste; then again, I’m not particularly fond of smooth, buttery stuff, or dessert-y stuff in general
LOL!!
that’s the best tweet of the day!
Once again I say that Press Secretary Jay Carney has the patience of ‘Job’. I don’t know how he stands the jackals.
I’m betting it’s a good sense of humor that gets him through, LH. He probably goes back stage and has a good laugh with his staff and then tells ” and then this idiot said……” stories around the dinner table at night. Carney probably learned from a master (PBO) to take this kind of thing in stride.
My day job is as a family mediator mostly divorce. I am so glad that the VAWA has been reauthorized. It is desperately needed. DV is an insidious crime, which is harming our families. While it is true that some use this as a tactic during an acrimonious divorce, they are overshadowed by the heartbreak and physical damage and violence that is real. This is not a numbers issue for me but an issue of gut wrenching chapters in real people’s lives.
Maybe my perspective is biased but I think that some of the fear about gun control is that many of these people are domestic abusers and fear the confiscation of their guns based on DV convictions.
Thank you for this perspective, otto. It’s really chilling.
This is one of those days where as soon as you get comfortable on a post, Chips yanks the rug out from under you! I suppose that is better than having one post all day, but I am having no time to decide as I run after CC from post to post to post with no knowledge of what’s at the end of each. Ah well, who’s complaining? Not me.
Speed up woman!!!!!
Seriously, glad that you ARE running about here!
This signing helps to lessen but not erase the loss of other rights of women. Even as PBO speaks other rights to choice in so many areas of life are still denied to many. He is an amazing advocate for those rights. I hope he will be able to do more with support from those who stand with him.
BAM!
Could Rand Paul look like a bigger fool? PBO wins again.
Love the way Eric Holder doesn’t mince or waste words. He probably realized a fool had asked a question, so he made it simple enough for a toddler to understand. NO.
I can picture AG Holder rolling his eyes when that was written.
Slow Clap….
Rand Paul spent 12 hours asking that question and pretending that the Pres refuses to answer it.
White house seems to be trolling right wingers at this point. lol
my goodness Rand Paul is so stunningly stupid it leaves me breathless. Eric Holder’s letter is not only a SMDH moment to himself but STFU moment to Paul.
CBS is live..
uh oh!
‘ “How he wound up in Turkey is a mystery, but likely indicates that things were ‘too hot’ in Pakistan with drones, etc., and that he transited Iran recently in hopes to find a better place to hide,” Lynch said. ‘

THIS!!!! Good morning Chips and everyone.
Who were the Republicans Senators who voted against the VAWA?
http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2013/03/violence-against-women-act-reauthorization-house-senate-votes
Anniebella, your Republican Senator Burr voted yea (surprise, surprise), McCain yea, and your favorite Senator, Lyin’ Lindsey Graham nay. There were 22 nays.
I’m shock Burr voted yea. S-H-O-C-K !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anniebella, I know what you mean.
Their own wives need to be asking that same question.
Personally, the bastard would not be allowed back in the house if he was my husband.
Can you imagine if they have sisters, daughters, granddaughters who are in violent relationships? How could you sleep at night knowing that you could have made a difference?
All of this because they hate POB? This will come back to bite all of their racists asses and it will be very soon.
In a hilarious description of Paul Ryan, this one phrase by Charlie Pierce had me rolling on the floor, laughing:
“He is a Leading Intellectual Force in a party full of people who eat oatmeal with their toes…”

So agree….Thank You VP Biden

Thank you, Daisydem.
Haha! Chips, I SWEAR I didn’t see your tweet before I sent mine (scroll down)!
GMTA!
http://thinkprogress.org/security/2013/03/07/1687721/holder-paul-drones/
Holder’s response to Paul was direct and to the point:
Dear Senator Paul:
It has come to my attention that you have now asked an additional question: “Does the President have the authority to use a weaponized drone to kill an American not engaged in combat on American soil?” The answer to that question is no.
Sincerely,
Eric H. Holder, Jr.
Fox News’ Megyn Kelly read Holder’s letter to Sen. Paul on-air, as the Senator had yet to receive it. “Hooray,” Paul responded. “For 13 hours yesterday we asked him that question and so there is a result and a victory under duress, and under public humiliation, the White House will respond and do the right thing.” He then told CNN’s Dana Bash that he was “happy” with the answer and would be dropping his hold on Brennan’s nomination.
Yup. Still an asshole
He just needed to convince himself he is relevant.
Wonder how that’s working out for him? Hypocrite loser.
I think he’s paranoid enough to BELIEVE that the President wanted the authority to use a weaponized drone to kill Americans in every circumstance. And he could be delusional enough to believe that the administration “retreated” because of him. Seriously. He’s completely out of touch with reality. Worse than his father even.
The most disgusting thing was seeing all the liberals who rallied behind his stunt, as though there was a refusal by President Obama to answer the question. Rand Paul would have spent his time (and every other person in the Senate whose taxpayer-paid salaries went to this ridiculous effort) writing legislation, and garnering support for it. I believe the President asked them to do this months ago…
Hey Japa, PBO was on fire!
Who the hell thought of this genius idea?
That is disgusting. Glad I am not a football fan.
Actually this is to prevent more players from shooting their genitalia when they are packing a handgun. Which has happened in times past. Putting a loaded weapon under your belt doesn’t always work out so well.
I’m assuming your not a Plaxico Burress fan?
thank you mr president, and all the hardworking advocates for this essential law.

A top National Rifle Association official in New York no longer has the right to bear arms.
Richard D’Alauro, the NRA’s field representative for the city and its suburbs, is forbidden from owning guns under an order of protection stemming from a confrontation with his wife in their Long Island home, the Daily News has learned.
Suffolk County authorities filed misdemeanor charges of assault and endangering the welfare of a child and a noncriminal charge of harassment as a result of the domestic dustup, which occurred at 1:55 a.m. on Sept. 1, 2010, records show.
At the time, the police confiscated a whopping 39 pistols, shotguns and rifles that D’Alauro kept in the couple’s East Northport, L.I., home.
Why are women prepared to live in such an environment? Where is their brain if they do not realize they are the most likely victim of those guns? Everyone seems to be their own worst enemy at the minute
Our President has so much class and patience!
I just marvel how he stays focus and keep on moving forward.
WE sure are blessed!
I feel like going outside and making a snowman about as tall as Bloomberg. That should take all about five minutes!
I cannot stress it enough how much disdain I have for that little short rich man.
Please, God don’t let him run for Congress……or any thing else. But if he continues to buy up all media source, he won’t have to.
Stay Focus!
(note to myself)
They are voting on brenan now.
Cloture Vote on Brennan happening right now….. Looks like its going to go through Portman and Cruz just voted yes. Vote to Confirm immediately after. So after all the threats by the GOP, GM PBO has exactly who he wanted in all NS Cabinet positions, well played…. well played…
Although, it’s exhausting having to go through this crap.
Ya, remember the awesome filibuster reforms H.Reid enacted to avoid this? Me neither……….
The fact that the left and right seem thrilled and entertained by the filibuster yesterday makes me think that the GOP would just be milking the talking filibuster to spout more Hitler and right Wong nonsense.
Washington Post is reporting that Ruans new budget will include new tax breaks for the wealthy, cuts to all healthcare,
Since the election, it feels the Republicans won and are pushing their agenda because Harry Reid can’t do anything.
i think they’re actually saying ruin’s budget proposal WOULD include tax breaks for the wealthy, etc. it’s his usual pile of crapola, which will go where they usually go, into the crapper. (please excuse my language; can’t talk about ruin otherwise.)
This is a gift for the 2014 midterms if accurate….
I think that is a mistaken interpretation actually. The Rs are beholden to their tea party base. They are not going to change because of the election. If they do, they will be primaries. Not sure what “it feels” means exactly.
Not surprised at all that McCain and Graham are excoriating Rand Paul. They are the leaders of the Neocon faction of the Senate. They don’t want Pres. Obama and the Dems to take the mantle of the National Security party.
they also don’t want little pauly to steal their thunder. more evidence that rethug intransigence has nothing to do with governance and everything to do with power games.
POTUS winning. This is what winning looks like!
Brennan confirmed. Yay.
VAWA passed. Yay.
Rand Paul’s long rant ignored. PBO did not care to respond, and by the way I agree with Don, I think it was, who said in an earlier post that he thought the real idea was to have the black President answer to the white idiot from SC. As if
On to End The Sequester Now
You guys probably saw this earlier in one of the posts I missed, so this is likely a reminder.
Did I just hear Leahy and Sanders voted NO ?
I heard that too i also thought I heard Harry Reid NO.
WTF?
They might have just called their names after announcing some “no” votes.
Merkley voted NO from what I heard, but we all may need hearing aids?
One giant hearing aid for all of us
I did not hear Reid…..
This is ironic, better than going to a movie: Unfortunately this has to do w/ the Nat. Security of U.S. and the joke that is the GOP
What a horrible job ….lurking in the halls stalking Senators with a mic and a recording devise.
I would rather have needles in my eyes.
NYTIMES photographer, gotta remember most Senators run from the cameras, this is a spot they cant hide…..
Those pictures say a lot! As that is the Senators and staff only elevator, Rand would have had to wait a bit for another ride…..Seeing this reminded me of an experience I had when I worked for the Senate, eons ago! Certain Senators were well known for wandering hands, etc. Those of us who were young single females soon learned who to totally stay away from. One time my friend and I called for the elevator, it opened, and Senator Strom Thurmond was in the back. Our friend Ben from Oregon, said “This elevator’s full!” See you on the way back ladies! I turned to my friend, (I was new) that’s not full…..she replied yes it is….that’s Strom Thurmond. You don’t want to get anywhere near him.” The young elevator operators, always male law students, were a good barrier between us and lecherous Senators. I have to say, most of the Senators were gentlemen, but Thurmond was absolutely awful!
Yikes!
Wow, amazing story carolyn…. I wonder what you think of the inner eco-system of the senate now and if things have changed much?
I enjoy each and every one of PBO’s confirmations, but the very next word that always comes to my mind when I think of the Rs is “b-stards.” Can’t help it.
A new word? Rb-stards.
From end of last thread
Question: So did the Pope get to keep all of his gifts? Even the ring?
The ring has to be given back…it is crushed….when he passes it will be buried with him
It’s the Secret Services job to keep the Obama family safe, and if they decided to cancel the White House tours for now, I have no problem with that being done. I see where some right wing haters are trying to start something.
The Secret Service job is to keep the First Family safe, including the House they stay in. There are alot of nuts out there, specially haters of this President.
Rand Paul Progressives and the Poutrage Over Obama’s Executive Powers
Posted by Spandan C
————————————
When Attorney General Eric Holder responded to Sen. Rand Paul’s question about whether the president had the power to direct the military to use lethal force on American soil, he called Paul’s question “entirely hypothetical” and pointed out that the US government neither has used nor plans to use such lethal force on US soil. But of course, Holder’s response caused a total freakout among the Rand Paul Progressives simply because Holder contemplated hypothetical emergencies in which it may be necessary for the president to order the military to use lethal force against an American on US soil, such as Pearl Harbor and 9/11.
.
.
We do not have an all powerful government. But we do not have an all powerless government, either. The Constitution charges the government with three primary responsibilities: to promote the general welfare of the people, to provide for the common defense, and to ensure domestic tranquility. For each, it gives the government extraordinary but limited powers. By its very concept, the Constitution, contrary to Libertarian Rightists and Leftists, rejects the idea that any power extraordinary is automatically unlimited.
As citizens, we must be vigilant to protect our liberties. But we do a poor job of it when we cry wolf over every legitimate use or claim of power under legitimate circumstances. The freakout artists on both extremes of politics do us more harm than good.

an email i received today from vote vets (note-you do not have to be a veteran to sign; okay to sign if you’re a family member of a veteran, including adult child of ww2 vet) :
‘ When Republicans rejected compromise solutions to avoid the “sequester,” they ushered in a series of cuts that promise to hurt military families at home and in the field.
At home, medical care, Department of Defense-run schools, social services like sexual assault prevention and treatment, tuition assistance, child care, and many other programs will get cut.
In the field, operations and maintenance funding (O&M) — which is essentially responsible for readiness and deployment — already faces a $6 billion shortfall, and sequestration could double it.
We have a powerful voice and unique opportunity to stop these cuts. Sign our petition to congressional leadership calling on an end to the sequester and its impact on military families.
http://action.votevets.org/sequester
Nine Republican Senators already defected from a GOP plan to end the sequester, in large part because of the cuts impacting members of the military and their families.
They also rejected a commonsense Democratic plan that would have millionaires and billionaires shoulder a small amount of the burden to avoid sequester.
The issue is at an impasse right now, and our voices are critical to ensure there’s a resolution to the crisis.
Sign our petition to congressional leadership and make your voice heard today.
http://action.votevets.org/sequester
We’ll deliver these petitions early next week and let you know about any responses we receive from legislative offices. ‘
#TrustBarack - He’s Earned It
Another good one, Mr. Bobfr.
Why do they fall for the BS over and over?
So now all of the fuckers who did not vote in 2010, stayed at home are being exposed?
Good to know….now they can crawl back in their holes until the next crazy fool draw them out again.
Ari Melber whining on Martin’s show..
Wahhhhhhhhhh
He just said he had serious questions. Who cares what questions he has?
Yes, I saw Rachel Jr. up there on Martin Bashir whining too.
I usually like Ari, but today is the first time I put him on mute. If you are a enemy of the United States, if you have threaten to, if you have tried to do harm to this country, I am not going to cry if you are taken out. By drone or whatever means.
I hate to agree with grumpy McCain, but, where were all these anti drone people when Bush was President?
I like Melber and Corn. Am I missing something about this drone outrage? They keep emphasizing the government’s ability to kill Americans on American soil. The government already does . I guarantee you, somewhere in this country , last night policemen used lethal force against a citizen. What am I missing?
Yup. In some states, you don’t even have to be a member of the goverrnment to kill someone on US soil. You can just be a person (preferably white and male) who simply decides you feel threatened and “stand your ground”.
It really is amazing to see them clinging to their guns like there is no tomorrow, but no drones no drones - perhaps it is just that they want drones to be sold to the regular guys - like assault weapons - not fair that the army can have weapons that the regular Joes are not allowed to have.
great article from greg sargent:
‘ The single most important fact about the fiscal battles consuming Washington right now continues to be poorly understood. It’s this: Republicans are not going to get the serious entitlement cuts they say they want unless they agree to new revenues.
To put this in another way, there is no imaginable scenario in the next three years, and probably beyond, under which Republicans win a total victory. Obama and Senate Dems will never agree to a fiscal deal that achieves the remaining deficit reduction experts have called for with only spending cuts, including serious cuts to retirement programs. There’s actually precedent for trying this: In 2005, President Bush and Republicans tried to enact a massive plan focused only on reforming entitlements. Even though Bush was riding high after reelection — and Republicans controlled both houses of Congress — the whole effort collapsed in abject failure, with even GOP officials running away from it. So, no, there won’t be any entitlement-reform-only package anytime soon.
Here’s why this is key to the current battle. It leaves only two possible conclusions: Either the two sides reach a deal that combines serious entitlement cuts and new revenues via the closing of loopholes, or there is no deal and the sequester continues indefinitely. ‘

Leyhey voted “no” because of droooonzzzzzzzzzz
Pres. Truman never consulted Congress before dropping the bombs on Japan.
Afternoon everyone. Just got in from a Youth Services’ meeting. We have a boatload of fun at those things; children’s librarians rock the house.
So, anyway, I see that Rando’s filibuster was sound and fury signifying nothing?
Were you expecting substance from Rand Paul? The guy who had to create his own medical board in order to pass his medical board exam? People who go to him for treaent must be either crazy, stupid of desperate.
Patient: So, I see you’re board certified.
Paul: Yes, I am!
Patient: Funny, I did research and I never heard of that board.
Paul: I founded it because nothing works like open competition.
Patient: Oh…
Paul. Yeah… So, let’s slice open your eye!
Yup - and if the patient is a right winger, she’d say, “sounds about right”…

Allow me to whine.
It’s damned annoying that Al writes these pieces on his Facebook page, which most of us can’t access. These need to get out to a broader audience.
Yes, it is a shame, LL. I loved Al’s blog, but can’t figure out how to access his FB page. He remains the most common sense writer in the US.
I agree LL
Eugene Robinson- umm ah ah technology, um ah serve to focus us um ah the President um ah My article compliments Rand Paul um ah but ah police Dept um ah ah Los Angeles Drone um ah technology.
Good grief!
agreed….he stutters more than most of them…..
So does that Chris Hayes…
Both are unwatchable to me.
And I, who ACTUALLY HAS A STUTTER, could put together a string of coherent sentences which evades most media personalities.
Wolfe Blitzer is interviewing Jay Carney.
I find it fascinating, That outside of Rev Al, the Administration uses CNN for interviews and not Msnbc!
So sweet! POTUS made VPOTUS tear up! I love this team!
WASHINGTON — In a possible harbinger of bipartisan support for a small piece of legislation to curb gun violence, the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday approved a measure that would make the practice of illegally buying a gun for someone else a felony, and increase penalties for the crime.

Now if only Harry would schedule a floor vote? Come on Harry, let’s go!
And why is the Msm ignoring this story?
Slightly OT, but relevant I think. So work with me.
I’ll admit that I’m not too quick to get on the Hillary 2016 bandwagon, but after the things that went on yesterday where u had left leaner like Maddow, Van Jones, et al completely fall for Rand Paul’s bullshit yesterday (Cenk actually called Rand more of a constitutional scholar than Obama, WTF??) I’m beginning to come around to the conclusion that Hilary may actually be the only contender who will be able to at the very least keep much of the Obama coalition together (though I expect her to lose some Obama votes, because his hardcore supporters are Obamaphiles, not Clintonites), but she can keep enough of the coalition together and add more that Obama didn’t get by virtue of his skin tone. Because based on yesterday Paul love fest from some quarters of the left, I fully expect that if Paul runs, then I can see him actually doing way better than his father. I heard some people talking today (Republicans I work with) and they were talking in really flattering terms of Paul’s filibuster. They were practically in awe. I’m beginning to think that Rand unlike his father may actually be able to get a large number of Republican voters to go his way. Yes he’s batshit crazy, but unlike his father he makes his crazy much more palatable to the rank and file than his father did.
The best way for the Dems to combat that would be someone who can overpower Rand by virtue of being historical and much more substantive than the good Senator.
I’m beginning to think the same thing would happen with Christie. If the Dem nominee is not someone who can go toe to toe with Christie, then I can totally see Christie by virtue of being able to come off as “reasonable” pulling vote over to him from our side. Heck, I kind of see some leaner already with a man crush on Christie.
Hilary may be the only candidate able to beat either of them.
Now of course Rand Paul is batshit crazy, so who knows maybe he’ll do or say something batshit crazy that people actually notice, but I’d rather not count on that.
Ok, I’m not sure if any of that made any sense, so please just call me crazy and move on…lol.
Yes, I was pretty disgusted with the love-feat yesterday, as though Rand Paul was on a legitimate mission. The problem with emoprogs is that they always want to APPEAR “balanced” and open-minded. They’re liberalism is actually very shallow, and more about having a coffee clatch than actually making things change and get better. What did that filibuster have to do with Brennan’s nomination? Or reality? Thirteen hours to talk incessantly about something that nobody is trying to do, instead of actually writing legislation (i.e. doing his job) has nothing to do with changing anything for the better.
Their liberalism…
Lamh, I suggest we wait until post-2014 to throw our support behind any candidate. We still do not know whether or not Hillary is running. Furthermore, Hillary was supposedly the “only candidate” who could beat the GOP back in 2008, and how did that work out? Let’s not get ahead of the game based on a few events here and there.
I’m not throwing my support behind any candidate. I’m just reflecting on what can be learned by what went down yesterday. I understand we don’t know yet if Hilary is running, but what I’m trying to game out is if Hilary doesn’t run, then we need to make damn sure the Dem party candidate can beat someone like Paul or Christie. We don’t need to wait to begin cultivating a candidate who can beat those two if Hilary does decide not to run. Using 2008 as a predictor is not a good idea. Obama and OfA is/was a once in a lifetime political campaign/campaigner. We cannot expect the GOP to stay down forever. We need to start ensuring right now that we are prepared to keep them down.
I think POTUS and OfA understand this. It’s exactly why they are attempting to lay groundwork and gaming out the system by which OfA can be used at it’s optimal capacity once POTUS in no longer in office.
That’s the whole point - you cannot “game out” who the most suitable presidential candidate is going to be in 2016 based on a single event in early 2013. Do we even know whether Rand Paul or Christie are running - the answer is NO. Keep in mind just less than a month ago, Marco Rubio was considered among the GOP front-runners for 2016.
I dare to predict that BOTH Christie AND Rand Paul will implode well before 2016. And if they don’t, they will be both eviscerated in a Republican primary.
hear, hear hf2!! it’s deja vu all over again with the hillary thing. she was “inevitable” going back to 2004 and before, yet the unknown skinny kid with a funny name, and politically tough name too, beat her easily. it was clearly over after south carolina, yet she continued that campaign for months. she cannot win a national election…never has, never will. gah, these names…clinton, bush, etc…why don’t they just go away and collect millions speaking and sitting on corporate boards?!? forward!!
The Clintons cannot let go of thinking that They, not PBO lead the Democratic Party.
Clintons won’t let go and they are trying to make us buy their view.
The Clintons cannot let go of thinking that They, not PBO lead the Democratic Party.
Clintons won’t let go and they are trying to make us buy their view.
You spoke for me: 4morefor44:
“clearly over after south carolina, yet she continued that campaign for months. she cannot win a national election…never has, never will. gah, these names…clinton, bush, etc…why don’t they just go away and collect millions speaking and sitting on corporate boards?!?” forward!!
Thank you!
They just have to go away…soon!
lamb, you made a good point that confirms what Rand Paul was about yesterday-positioning himself to win the crazy vote in a GOP primary. Unless Cruz challenges him he can truly say, I am the craziest Republican you could vote for.
Carl Levin to retire in 2014
There are 3 good D Gov Candidates, not worried about this seat.
That link is broken LP — here’s the article: http://politicalwire.com/archives/2013/03/07/snyder_trails_in_michigan.html
oops sry thanks Dudette!
No prob. Glad to help.
People have short memories. I will worry about this seat, until a Dem is sitting in it. And the damage Snyder is doing in the meantime is terrible.
Jennifer granholm?
Chris Matthews
” Did the President meet with Republicans he poll numbers are slipping ”
Gawd
* because his poll numbers…
That make no sense at all, these two bit pundits like Matthews does not understand this President at all. They don’t get it that the President puts the people, ( poor and middle class) the country first, not his poll numbers. I have heard President Obama say time and time again that he is willing to work with any one, including Republicans. He just have to fine some sensible Republicans willing to work with him. His goal is to improve the lives of these people, not worry about his pool numbers.
The man in the Oval office:
Love FLOTUS.
I just love listening to her speak. She speaks from the heart.
So Merkley, Leahey, and Sanders all voted against confirming Brenan. http://t.co/i6g6ZJx67Y Not going to ad my thoughts………
These so called democrats really don’t want anything that their party and their President support. In my world it is so very rare for party members to vote against the PM then again, they have the ability to replace the PM at any time - which fortunately for the US - cannot happen to the President.
So I’m just catching up. I had heard on the news about this “fillibuster” that Paul had. Once again, I am simply dumbfounded beyond sentient thought to see that emoprog’s were actually supporting Rand Paul’s tirade. Do they not see that this man is a complete and utter poser? How can they fall for such farce?
criminy.
Rachel Maddow is sitting in a corner grinning like a fifteen year old boy. She absolutely loves this farce about “drones” being discussed and reaching the Senate.
Well I’m glad that someone didn’t believe Rand Paul. It’s so ridiculous. He’s asking some crazy hypothetical question that he’s pulled out of his nether regions. For what? To have something to talk about. To have the press pick it up and run with it. I didn’t hear the WHPC briefing today but I betcha some chucklehead in the whpc asked about this completely made up hooey. ack.
They’re #stupid!
I have noticed that the Repugs have stopped talking about thier “family values”, I heard a commercial here in S. carolina about “christian values” by a repug running for the empty congressional seat of Tim Scott.
Is it Christian values like the former Governor Mark Sanford had.?
http://maddowblog.msnbc.com/_news/2013/03/07/17226837-votes-on-domestic-violence-bill-lead-to-gop-fibbing
It’s one thing for congressional Republicans to vote against the Violence Against Women Act. It’s another for some GOP lawmakers to try to deceive the public about their votes.
At first glance it seemed as though Republican Rep. Vicky Hartzler of Missouri had broken with the majority of her fellow conservatives in the House of Representatives last week to renew an expanded version of the 1994 Violence Against Women Act, which funds programs to assist survivors of sexual assault and domestic abuse.
A statement from her office proclaimed: “Hartzler votes to protect women from acts of violence.”
“Violence against women, in all its forms, is unacceptable,” Hartzler said in the statement.
Reading the Hartzler press statements, one would believe she voted for the law. She didn’t — like most Republicans in Congress, Hartzler opposed VAWA when it was brought to the floor for final passage. But she voted for a watered-down version that was brought to the floor in order to be defeated, and Hartzler, aware of the popularity of the law, assumes the public won’t be knowledgeable enough to tell the difference.
Hartzler wasn’t the only one playing this cynical game.
A Democratic source emails this afternoon to note that Reps. Tim Griffin (R-Ark.), Tim Walberg (R-Mich.), Keith Rothfus (R-Pa.), Tim Murphy (R-Pa.), Steve King (R-Iowa), Robert Pittenger (R-N.C.), and Rep. Bill Johnson (R-Ohio) all did the exact same thing.
Thanks, alice:)
I associate “family values” with the President and his family, so the repugs are shying away from using the term “family values” IMHO.
In Arkansas? Yes, I agree…
it must make them crazy, for the first family to be healthy, intact, christian, and also insisting that gay people, unmarried people, immigrant people, mixed race people, and -gasp!- non-christian people are also families. i remember when shrub was elected, some relatives of ours said their prayers were answered! now we have a christian president! but did they say that when carter was elected? no. and we sure didn’t hear them praising the president’s religion when pbo was elected.

Liberals fret over Obama-GOP talks
Alexander Bolton - 03/07/13 12:01 PM ET
Sen. Bernie Sanders and other liberals are worried Obama will agree to cut entitlement benefits.…

Here we go again!
What Obama is doing is a perfect example of divide and conquer. Any agreement that comes out of his contacts with these GOPers will be predicated on his priorities. Compromise will have to be a part of any deal, because, despite what the Left wants, Obama is not a dictator. But by building a “sane caucus”, he’s futhering the dissolution of the GOP as a viable political force. The Tea Party sees this; why doesn’t the Left see this?
Sometimes it seems as thought President Obama’s only party is The Party Of His-Own-Self, and he has to battle BOTH other parties to get anything done. Exaggerated, I know, but it would be nice if just once he did something that some Democrat didn’t complain about.
LL, if I may add:. Because they ARE the tea party. There is no emprogs/Left. They are too cowardly to admit they are really on board with them and they are showing it more and more. They never really cared about this president.
I mean, after all “some of their best friends are Black.” Hell, “they even date Blacks.”
So that gives them the right to pick and chose when and what they will support him on.
If they supported that crazy fool who stood up all of those hours ranting and raving about nothing, and that made sense to them…. the hell with them. These are ones who wanted to teach the President a lesson in 2010. Well, they got punked and they still have not learned lesson because they, just like the tea party, hate this President so much simply because he is Black. They need to own up to that fact and stop the BS.
Well, their covers have been blown and it is time for us to accept the fact they are who they are. And we have to stop caring what they say or think about PBO.
O/T: How is your wife’s preparation for her surgery coming? Sending positive thoughts for the surgery and healing process.
Don’t know if anyone has mentioned it—-just heard Eugene Robinson on Tweety praise Rand Paul for bringing attention to drones—-and Tweety agreed, said Rand Paul did “something great for the country”. T’was a lovefest.
Dotster…love that photo….
I am not watching Hardball. I wasn’t in the mood to hear their crap.
I SOOOOOOO LOVE THIS WOMAN!!
it’s becoming almost a sport for me to watch, that is, senator warren questioning financial folks. she could be one of the best i’ve ever seen at it, just as her last debate with male model brown was one of the best debate performances i’ve ever seen. i know we need to focus on 2014 midterms, so i won’t mention how much i want her to be the next president. forward!!!!!
Woooooweeee!!! It’s a GREAT DAY IN AMERICA!!
Former President Bill Clinton argues DOMA is unconstitutional:

Wednesday night on “The Rachel Maddow Show,” host Rachel Maddow discussed new polling by the group Mayors Against Illegal Guns, which shows that despite the fact that a majority of Americans are in favor of background checks for firearms purchases, the politicians representing those Americans are more concerned with their ratings from the NRA.
Polls taken by the coalition of U.S. mayors called Mayors Against Illegal Guns in Republican districts of New Jersey, in two heavily Republican districts in Wisconsin, in four Republican districts in Pennsylvania are forerunners of national polling that will be released soon showing that a vast majority of Americans, even in areas that are heavily Republican, favor background checks.
Ok, who is Grumpy Cat’s human parent? They have a gold mine.
Heard the spokesperson for the Southern Poverty Law Center on car radio when I was out today—-saying he had written a letter to Janet Napolitano and Eric Holder to assign a task force to assess the threat from the rapid rise of far right “patriot” groups. He said they have identified 1360 such groups, a 813% rise since 2008 when Obama was elected. He said a former task force had been disbanded and that only 1 or 2 people are left to track the potential for domestic terrorism. He said the contributing factors to the rapid rise was the first black president, not Obama the person but what he represents—-the changing demographic, the loss of white majority power, economic stagnancy, non-white immigration numbers, and the latest spurt is due to the gun issue. He said they see their tracking indicates many of the same signs as before Ok. City, that the threat for potential violence is real and rising.
