guess he is following the demands that a few rightwing think tanks put out over the last week or so in which thet demand that the Continuing Resolution must be used to defund ObamaCare.
didn’t I read that the gop caucus has been threatened yet again that they will be scored for not defunding ACA in CR?
Df, you should warned us. That photo of Ryan is enough to make you lose your lunch. How stupid do you have to be to think you “won” the 2012 election because you pick and choose certain constituencies. By that token only Democrats should have anything to say about young people, all minorities, women and a good 40 percent of the white vote. And they should alone be responsible for all legislation in non blood red states. Ryan is stupid, self important, clueless about the real world and may I also say he’s as creepy as all heck.
Poor SS guys, they have to appear as if they Blend IN, but their faces show that they are ALWAYS on duty, despite looking dashing in white tie and tails! Not exactly relaxing and having a fun time, eh? Now, PBO and COS, they are definitely enjoying the night! Good for them!
I guess I meant more his ‘state’, should have been specific…. don’t think I can go into that link to learn more about him, tho I suppose I ought to. He is so discouraging….
Chips, I cannot thank you enough for what you have given me with TOD , and it upsets me personally to see that you are so upset. I don’t know all the particulars, but is it not possible to simply ignore this guy? One thing I have learned from all the social media is that there are a lot of people out in the world that I would rather not have anything to do with - I know that you know this, of course. And you have kept me positive through some rough times over the years, so it seems strange for me to be saying this to you of all people. But please hang in there - enjoy your time off, you certainly deserve it! - and know that you have an enormous and positive influence on a great number of people. I get a lot of emails each day, and the one I always take the time to read is TOD!
Chips thanks for posting that speech. It was hilarious. I wish I could have heard it, he is so good at delivering these jokes. I love it when he laughs at his own jokes. It is too cute.
Morning winners, & others! UT, SNL was great last night…took me back to good old days (80′s) - so funny were those wild & crazy guys to me. The Tofu Veganomics was hilarious. Anyway, it just brought back to me why they became a hit back when…
Our President is looking rather handsome, as usual, & I hope things improve with the Politics, because my timeline has so much arguing within the libs it’s starting to turn me off. I support PBO & I unite behind that fact.
Miss you Chips, hope everything starts looking up for you!
MUST READ. http://immasmartypants.blogspot.com/2013/03/thomas-perez-civil-rights-champion.html
Highly knowledgeable and dedicated to their jobs to serve the people of this nation. All of PBO’s appointments have done this in an exemplary way….making govt efficient and accountable to the people. Yet, another reason R’s hate him. If the govt actually works as it should,R’s lose THAT argument, too! I have to say, that if Perez gets this slot, I hope they have someone in the wings with the same gusto as he has…especially in regards to Arpiao. That man needs to be in JAIL!
puff, puff, huff, huff,…..it’s hard to keep up with you quick-footed TODdies!! Now that I’ve finally caught up with you, it’s time for me to leave for a bit. Is is too much to ask that y’all stay put for awhile? ttyl
Chips, I hope and pray that you will continue to relax and enjoy your space. You so deserve the very best, and I will continue to support, respect, and love you for opening this space which flows from your heart that is so beautiful and of goodness.
Open up your space TODers, walk with love in that space, and hold your dreams for each moment with the highest respect in your space. Take some of your moments within your space to ponder on the goodness that you have brought to someone’s life; take some of your moments to pause and take in a moment of one beautiful object around you and smile, and take a moment within your space to laugh with vigor until your soul reaches its pure and loving height of your living in this day.
Be good to your spirit TOD Family. I love you all so very much. (((Chips, know that we love you so much.)))HZ
So FLOTUS will be celebrating her 50th birthday with a party in the WH. I heard that Beyonce and Adele are going to be there. The RWNJ’s heads are already exploding.
Oh! Oh! Oooh! Really? /whispering to self/ Gotta check the mail more often for *my* invitation. Wonder if she’ll use snail mail or email? Lord knows I wouldn’t want to pick it up after the fact./ Woooooot!
Oh, just enough time to get a medi/pedi and a whole body massage (it’ll take that long to work the kinks and callouses out), before the big meet-up at the big house. Oh dear, now I gotta really work those abs and glutes, not to mention Zumba my butt off, while I do the heavy lifting with the dumb bells. Ahhh, so much to do……so little time.
Actually, Cookem, thanks for the reminder that I should start the abs, glutes, butt work NOW, given the material on which I’ll be working. Being me, I probably would have only twigged to it in November or December. Two heads are definitely better than one….thanks! I’ve got to admit though, there’s no way I’m joining you in that 90-day torture session. Starting from now will mean I can make a serious EFFORT TO REMEMBER to do the zumba stuff at least once weekly. - 4 times monthly for 9 months better be good enough to turn the tide. The thought of this 50th FLOTUS par-tay may be the best incentive to keep me honest ……if my invite arrives soon.
We’re all invited. We’ll just have to tell the Secret Service we’re with the band, if our invites don’t arrive in time. We might want to consider coordinating our outfits so that we’ll look like we’re back-up singers or something.
I got lost in a novel, so am only now returning to the village. You almost always make me laugh, CM. I like your ideas but I have to let you know there’s no way anyone would confuse me for a band member or a back-up singer especially if they ask me to sing a note or name an instrument, so we definitely have to come up with a more credible choice if it comes to that. Luckily, we have a little time to work things out carefully.
FLOTUS’ 50th birthday is more than 10 months away - could the details be coming out this early & at time when everyone is scrutinizing how much their basic needs cost?
The Obamas are paying for Adele’s travel and performance expenses. It’s a private party - not a state one. But the RWers and MSM will distort things AS USUAL to make it more of an issue than it is.
Idiots! It’s her 50th b-day & she can do whatever she wants, so they need to STFU. These idiots will follow her all the way to her 89th b-day & still criticize her. So go for it FLOTUS! Methinks it’s the little green devils in their hearts. Go FLOTUS & have yourself a blessed b-day!
Yes, I believe that like all previous personal events, The Obamas will be picking up the tab. I just wondering if the White House would be releasing such details at this time especially given the fact that the media is now in over-drive criticizing the costs that are routine to other POTUS.
These details may have come not from the WH, but from some of the invited guests themselves. Apparently it originated from the UK tabloid which may have gotten some leaks from associates of Adele. That’s just my speculation at this point.
this is insane. i don’t ever remembering hearing about a first family having to use their personal funds for so many things. w. bush didn’t even carry cash and pay for things, let alone leave a tip, when president obama is famous for being a great tipper and using his own cash to pay for the group. and unlike bush, he’s not trust fund kid. just crazy all this obama-hate.
There are strict government regulations that say when personal funds must be used. That was never a topic of this much consideration until this First Family got all the inquiries. Think I recall they beat the inquirers to the punch as much as possible from the start, including announcing they had paid for all of the new decor in their private living spaces (before anyone asked). The Obamas know what’s up, and, from my perspective, not only will never break any rules, but already anticipate all of the questions, 10 steps ahead, as usual. No scandals out of them or anyone in the administration four years running, and counting. Love them.
Jackals and haters will always be jackals and haters. We can all help fight back, on behalf of our First Family, so they can do their ultimate best for our country. #FORWARD
Her 50th birthday was in January, a few days before the inauguration. Had a lot to do during those days so this is probably the reason for the delayed celebration. PBO, remember is almost 2 years older; he will be 52 in August.
Right, anniebella, they only continue to demonstrate how small they are. It’s a birthday, for cryin’ out loud, so now people can’t have a birthday party if they want one? Sheesh. Anyway, if the loonies are so worried about money, all either PBO or FLOTUS have to do is pop out another book, and in an instant they will have a few million ready at hand! We just keep on loving them, that is what is most important!
************DISTRACTION ALERT*********** This “Sources said” article is REAL SUSPECT. Can’t believe that these kind of details would leak 10 months before the event. One thing this WH has been really good about is releasing details of social events, both public and private, at a date and time of their choosing. I’m pretty confident that folks in the know wouldn’t leak info on a private event 10 months out…

Had it not been for the slashing of government jobs over the last three years, the unemployment rate would be 7.2 percent - a full half percent lower than it currently is. That may not seem significant, but consider that in the first two years of the Obama Administration the Treasury lost almost half a trillion dollars in receipts due exclusively to high unemployment. Half a point in the jobless rate might well have reduced that figure by tens of billions.
Fears of runaway inflation and stock market crashes have been thoroughly debunked. If anything, inflation should remain at historic lows for the foreseeable future and profits are at an all-time high. The economy continues its rebound in spite of the doomsayers who predicted its demise, and now, as it prepares to exit that long, dark, formidable tunnel, some want to jam on the brakes and derail the train altogether. Not because they are right, but because they can’t bring themselves to admit they’re wrong, no matter how obvious it may seem.

Before you gulp down your favorite champagne to celebrate Wall Street’s new stock market highs, remember that we are two Americas: The nation’s economic divide is costing us all dearly in terms of lost jobs and growth and is fueling the angry, gridlocked politics in Washington…
And while the stock market is roaring upward thanks largely to corporate profits earned overseas, 24 million Americans are still out there hunting for full-time jobs, month after month. But our economy is not generating many new jobs. In fact, Congress has just added to unemployment. With the sequester in force, we are going to lose a net of 750,000 jobs this year, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
Jobs is what we should be focusing on, and I know President Obama would be if it wasn’t for all these manufacture crisis he have to deal with everyday. Thanks to the Republicans. The media is such jackasses, because how can the concealing of White House tours be more important than the lost of 750,000 jobs, or all the other things which will hit the people who are already struggling.
Chipstick, know that we are there with you in spirit, and we appreciate all you do in keeping this place here for those of us who support our President, First Lady and family.

Executive assassinations, hyperinflation leading to populist dictatorships, ordinary Americans protecting themselves by launching insurgencies against the state - these are themes of Rand Paul’s politics, now endorsed by his Republican Senate colleagues. Out of what doom-haunted imagination are such dark fantasies born? The Republican party used to be the party more serious about defending America. Now it provides a home to those more doubtful that America is worth defending.
I think Frum has seen the dark soul that the GOP has embraced and realizes it is highly unlikely that the Republican Party he’s known all his life will ever return as a legitimate opposition party in our American democracy.
That dialectic will require the emergence of a form of Conservatism that embraces ecological economics, education and an equitable tax structure.
Until that happens the margins of defeat are only going to grow, irrespective of their voter suppression efforts, for the GOP. Americans are sick of these fools and 2014 and 2016 are going to reveal just how disgusted we are.
That’s why they are all freaking over OFA, they hear the steam roller coming and they’ve got nothing to stop it.

Apparently, it is Gazelle. And, yes, it would be interesting if anyone has ever captured in a photo a lighting strike on the Tower, before. We are way beyond the tipping point of climatic chaos, for sure.

It will take several million Steve Schmidt’s if the GOP is ever to be a valid conservative opposition party, again … see my comment to pf58, up thread.
Until women feel fully enabled by such a conservative opposition party, it will have little national significance and very narrow influence at the State, CD and local level.
People like Steve point out many flaws in the GOP, their politicians and their policies - but they still claim they are republicans. The truth of Schmidt and Nicole Wallace’s views on Sarah Palin shows what people will do for party regardless of the reality of who and what they support. They were willing to put a dumb fool into a position of power because of their view on the GOP right to rule. Party over country is the GOP way.
uh, i’d never use the word “sane” when talking about any republican. seriously…any of them. the entire republican scam was long in full view by 2008, yet this guy agrees to orchestrate the insanity of the mccain campaign of 2008, which resulted in bringing the insanity of sarah paylin into the political discourse?!? no, this guy is as bad as any of them and he’s just trying to maintain some credibility. there is no reasonable or logical justification for anyone to continue associating with the republican party any more. none. the only thing that could make me believe a republican is sane any more, is for them to leave the republican party entirely and move to the left.
I understand. I’ve tried hard to put Palin out of my head. I personally think that he thought that McCain would be a good President, not entertaining the thought of Palin. I thought he was the one that absolutely had the “lightbulb moment” after he heard/saw Palin in action and wanted no part of that. I could be wrong. Regardless, I think that he’s disappointed and sometimes embarrassed by his party…more and more with each passing year. As he should be.
If you ‘click’ on it, it will open a window and allow you to tweet a copy of the original tweet as a way of indicating, typically, that you support the message.
Or, in some cases, you are trying to call attention to a tweet as to alert folk to it - e.g., a way of saying ‘look at what I found, you might want to do something about it.’ The latter is a bit nuanced and you need to reflect on whether your followers will recognize what you are inferring by retweeting it - in other words, they immediately know you would not support the message, but are alerting them to its existence.
It is placed there automatically by Twitter, Tweetdeck, etc., when you select the RT function. It is a way of indicating that you are retweeting and are not the author of the tweet. You can also RT and add a comment - check UT’s timeline & mine for examples. In that case the RT appears first, then you insert your comment followed by @xxxxx (the twitter handle of the author of the original tweet) followed by some or all of the contents of the original tweet.

PBO’s visit is Big News in Israel. Not so much here.

@WestWingReport who knew four of the most out-of-touch members of the human race could even spell the word 'contemporary.' #FORWARD— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) March 10, 2025
Hello Bob - I’m currently confused by time - just when I sorted the hours of the world someone changed them all again - but in other news - love your tweet. With an age that fits in the middle of those mentioned - I can remember wondering long ago if youth would ever get a say - seems I have reached the age of being allowed to talk - and still want youth to get a say.
I’m there, too, and I recall telling my son (44) in ’08 that I freely admitted that my baby boomer generation took the country as far as we could go, but then people like Bush screwed up the government and our standing in the world. And that it was time for his (and PBO’s!) generation to take over with fresh ideas. Haven’t changed my mind.
Please understand that my reference to them as ‘four of the most out-of-touch members of the human race’ had ZERO to do with their respective ages, 99. They could be 14 and I’d have the same opinion of them - except that at their age they don’t have any of the excuses a 14 y/o could legitimately have.
I have had colleagues and close friends well into their 90s who were so ‘in touch’ they dazzled you because they also had all those decades of context for whatever commentary they offered on an issue.
I know that Bob - and I agree with Jacqueline - there are people of all ages who do wonderful things - but I hate it when some who should retire - hang on to past power that they should pass to someone else. I move slower as I age (many may not) and cannot achieve what I used to in the past. I can remember being empowered by 12 hour work days - now to think about it makes me tired - sigh!
I agree that age does not determine viewpoint, but really, to talk about contemporary life and not have anyone younger than 62 to discuss that is ridiculous! Bob needs some of my college freshmen to tell him about contemporary life…….after all they are living it to the hilt, and will be affected by what decisions are made now. Not one of those people will be affected by any decisions made on Medicare, SocSec….etc. They are all insulated by their wealth and have no idea what the average or less than average person faces.
That is total pandering and posturing. Ridiculous! Bob needs to be told how ridiculous that is.
Sally Quinn and Peggy Noonan are two of the most elitist, arrogant women around……they look down their noses at everyone!!!
I’m sure you don’t…..but those women do. Working with 18 year olds is a constant spur to be open and learn. That’s one reason I love them so much. People on this blog are open and young, not petrified and atrophied!!!!!
It seems that you don’t get ‘nuance,’ so let me be a bit more direct.
Your comments to me and about me are out-of-line, as well as, completely inaccurate inferences as to who I am, how old I am, what my daily experiences are, and what the message in my comment to 99 conveyed.
In other words, your comments are offensive, not just to me but to anyone whom might not align with your definition of ‘young.’
Good day Carolyn,
It appeared by your response to my initial comment was that the ‘Bob’ you were referring was me and not Bob Schieffer. If I misunderstood then I apologize for my additional comment to you.
Sincerely,
Bob
Is it alright for POTUS to go see his daughter play basketball, or do the haters think that because of sequester that should be cut out. After all folks can’t go on their WH tour. I’m sure that is how those haters minds think. Watch those jack “A” over there at NBC news ABC, CBS, MSNBC, be doing a story about it.
Those three choices are quite impressive and creative! I’d have a hard time choosing the winner.
Our sermon today was on the well known parable of the prodigal son. Our pastor is so insightful and creative. As many times as I’ve heard that preached on, this was a new take. I realized when he finished, that the parable should not be called The Prodigal Son, but The Loving, Forgiving Father. He totally shifted the emphasis, and it was brand new. This man is a progressive and radical in the best sense of the word, and this is one “mainline” church that is not dying, but growing. It is what is called within the denomination an”open and affirming” church, and it is, to everyone. For the first time in years, my husband and I actually WANT to go to church, and are always glad that we have. This church is an oasis in Oklahoma City.
The church is Mayflower Congregational UCC in Oklahoma City. I wish it could be cloned. My husband and I laugh and say the church is composed of refugees……from every other religious group imaginable, and no religious group….very supportive of LGBT…..supports a medical mission in Nicaragua, every Saturday has what is called “363″ wherein they feed homeless people downtown…..called 363 because people have to eat 365 days, and Thanksgiving and Christmas are taken care of, we knot scarves for the homeless every fall……our Christmas tree was a rack sporting these handmade scarves….over 300 which were distributed. The church is not a megachurch. I think about 800 members, two services. The 9:00 is contemporary, the 11:00 is traditional…..full choir, organist, great congregational singing, and always a truly mind turning sermon. We have 3 ministers, two men, one woman, just ordained last May. Each one is absolutely wonderful. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming….Our first time to attend was the Sunday before Gabby Giffords was shot. I remember that particularly, because the Sunday after that horrendous Saturday his sermon was unbelievable. He said he couldn’t sleep all night, and could not understand how any preacher of the gospel could have slept. At the end of the sermon the congregation gave him a standing ovation…..if you can imagine that for a sermon!
We have a website….I don’t know it exactly, but if you search for the info I gave you it will come up. The pastor’s sermons are on video, about two weeks after actual presentation. He has a worldwide audience via the website.
This fall he will be giving the Beecher Lectures on preaching at Yale University. He also teaches at Oklahoma City University. It is just amazing to WANT to go to church. All three ministers are excellent in the pulpit, as well as very personable.
However, if you tell people where you go, the response is almost always…..”oh, that LIBERAL church.”
Carol, have you & your husband publicly told your pastor how much you appreciate his approach to the Word? You know sometimes the shephard needs to have his/her soul nurtured as well & appreciation does wonders.
It would reaffirm to him that people out there are grateful for his inclusiveness

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBx2Y5HhplI&sns=em Here is the YouTube link. Seems there are many who wish this not to be heard… Let’s Roll! They do not control the Interwebz, at least, not yet.
Linda is correct. TED refused to post that video because they said it was “too political” Bullshit. No matter, you have it now…and should send it all over the place!
MP, I have heard the Republicans tell that lie so much. That the rich is the jobs creator. I would love to see that guy who says that what the Republicans are saying is a lie go on tv more often.
I read somewhere today that if she chose to run, she said she would announce it sometime around Derby time…which is the first weekend in May….is this legit? She needs to kick his ass!
It seems highly likely she will run and all the intrigue is just what it is, df. Announcing in May would coincide with the Derby, but frankly she doesn’t need a stunt like that to ‘draw national attention’ She’s already drawn massive attention from the turtle and rwnjs who are obviously freaked at the thought of her candidacy. So, I suspect she announces whenever she and her $$$ backers decide it’s time to rock and roll.
Glad to hear that Carol, I’ve always heard laughter is good medicine for the soul. Might have to check that movie out. I saw Michael Jackson’s son Prince Michael interview the stars and the director on ET about two weeks ago.
Prince Michael did a good job. The stars and director said they were impress, and he wasn’t nervous, he knew what he was talking about when discussing making of movies, so people seem to be impress with Prince Michael.
Don't miss tomorrow's @RachaelRayShow. Such a special hour about @FLOTUS's @letsmove campaign & a fantastic cafeteria cook-off!— rachael ray (@rachael_ray) March 10, 2025
I’m going to have to catch FLOTUS on Rachel Ray show on the website. I don’t know why they took Rachel off in my area. They replace her with Ricky Lake show and now that is gone off.
Chelsea lived to fight another day.
The Lakers are starting to look like, well, the Lakers.
Tiger dominated.
And I made one hell of a bbq for the missus’ evening meal after a day of protein drinks.
when Sports Illustrated (SI) listed POTUS as number 44 of the most powerful people in sports, a number of O-haters were not happy & they threatened to cancel subscriptions to SI - not clear how many had any.
well, here is 1 more headline to make rightwingers really angry: “Michelle Obama is the Best Dressed Woman” http://www.examiner.com/article/michelle-obama-is-the-best-dressed-woman-according-to-the-sunday-times
The First Lady said that President Obama loves sports, he watches ESPN all the time and there isn’t a sport he won’t watch. How stupid are these haters. When you hear things like that, because President Obama was listed as 44 most powerful person in sports, they are going to cancel their subscription to SI. When you hear things like that it is just more proof that their dislike of President Obama has nothing to do with his policies, it’s because he is BLACK.
By the way, we need to send this article about the First Lady being the best dressed woman to that orange head old witch designer V. Westwood. Four more years and if she ever though she had a chance of FLOTUS wearing one of her designs, bye-bye. It won’t happen.
The absolute appeal is that she not only wears designer clothes - she wears clothes that you, I & most others can afford and access. I keep thinking that all the $$$$ gowns in the world could never turn certain spouses of white house pretenders into women of style.
The americans who attack POTUS and FLOTUS have no idea as to what or why - I look at Michelle and see beauty and intelligence, I look at PBO and see super intelligence and sanity - some look and see blah. Nothing else can explain such discrepancies in what is said.
They have so much without all the trappings, just by being themselves, it really brings out the jealousy and hate, in addition to bringing out the racists. People who don’t like themselves at all don’t like POTUS and FLOTUS, who seem to have it all.
Am I shallow because I remember every outfit? I don’t remember any clothing of any other First Lady, but Mrs. Obama…..yes. But, it’s her personality and goodness that come through and make the clothes.
You aren’t shallow; you’re just acknowledging taste and goodness. Kind of like how many of us know when she wore the dress before, or when her handsome husband last wore that tie! Some of her clothes are to die for, in any event!
It is the range and the variations and the understanding that different occasions need different styles. I can remember in the 60s how we raved about Mrs Kennedy - but looking back at the photos - there was little variation in her outfits. Michelle gave away the safe and boring suit with matching blouse - favored for the last 50 years. She is different - she knows it - and style loves it.
I must admit that although I do not purposefully go to seek out what my horoscope is saying for the day, I usually take a look when I come across one.
the site I visited earlier to read the article about FLOTUS & being the best dressed has an older speculation about Mrs O which was written in sept 2012. found it interesting to read.
if you have a few minutes to speculate about FLOTUS, here is the link:
Michelle Obama’s horoscope, and why she rocks as First Lady!

This is weird - but I do wonder why the US can deal with such groups who operate outside the US but seem incapable of charging those who damage financial markets from within.
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2013/03/wtf_intrade_closing_immediately.php
U.S. companies are making record profits. And more of the money is staying offshore, and lightly taxed.
A Wall Street Journal analysis of 60 big U.S. companies found that, together, they parked a total of $166 billion offshore last year. That shielded more than 40% of their annual profits from U.S. taxes, though it left the money off-limits for paying dividends, buying back shares or making investments in the U.S. The 60 companies were chosen for the analysis because each of them had held at least $5 billion offshore in 2011.
The practice is a result of U.S. tax rules that create incentives for companies to maximize the earnings, and holdings, of foreign subsidiaries. The law generally allows companies to not record or pay taxes on profits earned by overseas subsidiaries if the money isn’t brought back to the U.S.
Big American companies are booking more of their sales in faster-growing foreign markets. But companies also are moving more of their earnings overseas by assigning valuable patents and licenses to foreign units.
And yet, Df, these companies must be protected at all costs, according to the Republican lackeys in Congress who are paid to do the bidding of these corporate bosses.’ Tax loopholes and corporate profits are so important we have to slash government functions across the board and put the financial burden of running the country on seniors, the poor, students and anyone else who is least able to handle it. Ordinary people are even seeing their postal services taken away so private companies can bilk the profit out of that government service. That Republicans in Congress pledge to uphold the constitution is nothing more than a joke. Their real pledge-the one that puts dollars in their pockets-is to their overlords in corporate boardrooms. We need a massive overhaul of the US Congress and the time is now.
Only my opinion - but violence will increase once the US leaves - as the Afghans for the nth time in their history sort out their own internal divides. It was a place no US leader should ever have gone - should have just used those drones. It is impossible to determine why some people cannot understand that doing the same thing over and over - produces the same results over and over.
I agree with you, 99ts! I think it was a mistake to invade Afghanistan without a plan on when and how to exit. As far as I am concerned the use of drones has taken out more Al-Qiada terrorist leaders than the invasion did, while using less money, eliminating casualties of U.S. soldiers and minimizing casualties of innocent Afghanis.
Am I imagining it - or is Josh Marshall more pro dems than he was before the election?
This is from a reader - but published on his blog
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/2013/03/strong_views_on_strong_leaders.php
You may be right about that. He blocked me some time early last year - can’t recall the exact reason, but it must have had something to do with something he said about the President to which I had a negative reaction.
It does seem the last few months he has supported most of what the President is doing - at the minute however - the Pope seems to have taken over the news at TPM - so hopefully that will be over shortly and normal programming can resume. Then again - my one and only thought on the issue would be how AWESOME if they were to have a black Pope - I thought a black President would never happen - so just maybe!
Oh my….Rick Steves is eating his way through Europe right now on our local PBS station fundraiser. So far, Spain and Italy…right now Florence……Yum, yum, yum!!!!!
MAMMOTH HOT SPRINGS, Wyo. — The giant yellow snowplows that wake Yellowstone from its winter slumber every March are idled, waiting for the sun to make up for federal budget cuts that are forcing the park to open late for peak season.
Mandatory cuts kicked in three days before the plows were to start clearing snow and ice from 300 roads at altitudes that reach 11,000 feet. Faced with an order from Washington to slice $1.8 million from his budget, the park superintendent, Dan Wenk, had considered his options.
He could slash the ranks of the 430 seasonal rangers, guides and other employees who help keep Yellowstone running every summer. But it would mean fewer visitor centers open, fewer walking tours and a risk to public safety.
He could halt the bison-management program — but the program is required under a court settlement. He could close the park for two weeks before the fiscal year ends Sept. 30, but that would mean shutting out 267,000 visitors.
Or he could keep the seasonals, just fewer of them, and bring them on two weeks later, saving $450,000. He could freeze all permanent hires ($1 million), delay the snowplows ($250,000) and open most entrances two weeks late. About 50,000 visitors would be lost, and hundreds of fishing and hiking guides, rangers, and concession workers would lose their livelihoods.
But it seemed the best bad alternative. The sun would melt and soften the snow, saving $30,000 a day.
“We didn’t say we’re going to shut the park down” for the season, Wenk said. “But it will have real impacts.”
Jovie, a pilot claims to have spotted a drone near JFK airport and the FBI investigated. Local media says it’s probably not a drone, but a balloon or model airplane. LOL!
I seen one when I went to Hooters today. I noticed it was not an attack Drone, just spying on me and the Girls.
Probably, the drone was hired by my ex Wife?
Absolutely hilarious, Jovie! Why is your ex so angry with you that is sending drones to spy on you? Have you been acting like Joe Walsh, failing to pay child support and alimony while wining and dining the girls at Hooters? Time for you to come clean, Jovie.
It’s cold this time of year in Yellowstone. Nobody here in WY seems to care. They wanted sequester and they are are getting it. I wish they would close it to snowmobiles. That gets the teagop her to howl.
How things have changed when a republican is praised for including student-ids as allowable for voting purposes. The whole concept of voting-ids has only existed since the number of non-white people voting has been growing. One of the comments on that article says the Feds should introduce country wide voter id. I have voted in every election in my world since I turned 21 & never have I needed id. I have worked as a polling clerk (well paid 12-14 hours of taking & counting votes) and NEVER was anyone questioned about who they were (except when there were multiple names at the same address & parent/child relationships had to be sorted).
Before each election we are now sent a letter which includes a voting slip with name/address. I shred it. If polling clerks are too dumb that they need something in writing to find my name - they shouldn’t have the job. Maybe some folks like that piece of paper - but next thing it will be compulsory - and already those who are to the right are saying we need picture ID - a plague on them.
Voting in my world is compulsory - and easy - the Feds (here and in the USA) should be passing laws to make it easier for people to vote - not laws that will stop people voting.

Any excuse, I know. But this day light saving time is too much. Need a week to catch up on the hour that was taken from me.
Rest and sleep is very important to this body.
I heard he deleted his tweet supporting him after he found out Rand Paul now stands with the President. Egg meet face. Meanwhile Detroit is about to get an Emergency Manager and not a peep out of Conyers. I guess that doesn’t matter since he couldn’t find a way to blame PBO for it.
Some people should just retire - doesn’t help his district, his state or the President from what I can see. If I am right about his age then I’m back to my thoughts that you just can’t do as much when you get older - even the Pope decided his time was up.
Yes he does, derbingle. He has always been all talk and no action. He has never served the best interests of his constituents, only the best interests of John Conyers.
It may be DST time but a douche is a douche. MT @politico: .@realDonaldTrump says he's willing to fund WH tours: politi.co/12HP4v4— Nerdy Wonka (@NerdyWonka) March 11, 2025
Donald Trump is so obsessed with the President that he just has to insert himself in anything where he can get our President’s attention.
I left a comment at GOPolitico, and I said the same thing hopefruit2, I said when Americans are losing their jobs because of this sequester, some people rather complain about touring the White House. Let Trump fund the jobs that will be lost because of this sequester. And if people are so concern about the tours being cancel then why didn’t they contact their Congressman and tell them to stop the sequester. And of course some racists idiot had to say something about a real American wouldn’t keep kids from visiting the White House. I told them that the school I attended taught me that Hawaii is a part of the United States and if you are born in Hawaii you are a real American, no matter how much some refuse to accept it.
So Chump is willing to pay the $74K per week it takes to fund 37 Secret Service agents to secure the grounds for WH tours? The 1% should just pay their fair share of taxes instead of pulling publicity stunts 24/7.
Sadly, the jackals will consider this a legitimate issue to question Press Secretary Jay Carney. My guess is it will be Ed ‘Cheshire Cat’ Henry who will bring up Donald Trump and the WH Tours first.
LH, aside from the utter smarminess of Trump, it’s probably illegal for a private citizen to fund these tours. The funder could ask for all sorts of perks in return-his photo in all the rooms, his business cards, signs saying “Funded by Meathead”, etc. Suppose a bazilionaire decided to fund Air Force One and insisted on carrying his name on the side. So it’s all BS and a desperate attempt by Trump to get some limelight because his lousy show is failing.
If he’s willing to pay I’d get the check upfront and call the bank to make sure the money is there. Trump has a knack for sticking other people with the bill.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) says raising the eligibility age for Medicare benefits is just a political “trophy” for Republicans because the idea would not strengthen the program.
Pelosi pointed out that Democrats were willing to negotiate with Republicans if the objective was to strengthen earned benefits programs.
“But if the point of it is to take trophies — ‘Let’s raise the age’ — that doesn’t save money. It’s a trophy, it’s a scalp, but it’s not a solution.”
She concluded: “Raising the age, I’m very much against… We’re not there to make [the programs] cash cows to give tax breaks to the wealthiest people in our country and say, ‘We’re balancing the budget.’”

guess he is following the demands that a few rightwing think tanks put out over the last week or so in which thet demand that the Continuing Resolution must be used to defund ObamaCare.
didn’t I read that the gop caucus has been threatened yet again that they will be scored for not defunding ACA in CR?
bunch of real certified idiots
Df, you should warned us. That photo of Ryan is enough to make you lose your lunch. How stupid do you have to be to think you “won” the 2012 election because you pick and choose certain constituencies. By that token only Democrats should have anything to say about young people, all minorities, women and a good 40 percent of the white vote. And they should alone be responsible for all legislation in non blood red states. Ryan is stupid, self important, clueless about the real world and may I also say he’s as creepy as all heck.

Good Morning/Afternoon Chips and my TOD Family.
HZ, I hope you’re feeling good these days. With warmer weather maybe you can get some time in the sunshine and fresh air.

#FORWARD … Together
So FLOTUS will be celebrating her 50th birthday with a party in the WH. I heard that Beyonce and Adele are going to be there. The RWNJ’s heads are already exploding.
Oh! Oh! Oooh! Really? /whispering to self/ Gotta check the mail more often for *my* invitation. Wonder if she’ll use snail mail or email? Lord knows I wouldn’t want to pick it up after the fact./ Woooooot!
PBO just sent a text msg saying that vcprez’s special gold-plaited invitation was being sent via “Special Mail”
{{{{Hopefruit}}}} Thank YOU! Now I just have to keep my ears open for the “Special Mail” yell!
HF, I’m so behind w/ news. But when is this event? A belated b-day celeb.?
It’s in 2014
http://www.thedailybeast.com/cheats/2013/03/10/adele-to-sing-at-michelle-obama-s-50th.html
Awesome, thanks! Ahem, I’m sure our invites are in the mail! Even more reason to keep USPS alive! Indeed! LOL!
Mark Knoller will blow a gasket if the press pool is not invited.
Then he’s going to go KA-BOOM! LOL!
that will be messy….. hope it happens!
FLOTUS was 49 January 17th 2013. 2014 she will reach the big 5-0. And I am sorry for those who want to criticize, go right ahead.
I’m pretty confident that folks in the know wouldn’t leak info on a private event 10 months out…
your line of thought is where mine is & what made me hesitate to confirm this. I will stay tuned

Sorry Linda, everyone … here’s my response to Mr Hounshell …
Hey Bob,
Just seeing your response now. Thanks a lot. I will get in touch & I will give it my all. Thanks a lot for following up
I am starting to wonder if it is true also. I will just wait to hear from the WH. Before I believe it.
FLOTUS 50 birthday party is what I’m talking about. We shall see. But it wouldn’t bother me a bit.
Good morning all! Wish there was a video, would have loved to see this, doesn’t come across as well in the transcript:
“During a pause in his remarks, Obama took a long, slow sip of water and then said, ‘That, Marco Rubio, is how you take a sip of water.’”
LOL!
http://spiritofaprogressive.blogspot.com/2013/03/the-job-numbers-dont-lie.html

Good Day-light saving time to all. I am still on the EST clock and will be until my body says to make that change. Have a great day and wishing Chips the best Sunday ever. After all the sun is shining. (At least it is here)
It takes our bodies ~25 hrs to physically adjust to a one hr change in time. Psychologically however is a different matter.
Good luck!
thanks hf2. I agree completely.
http://billmoyers.com/2013/03/06/one-economy-two-americas/
My focus is on the things you mentioned, anniebella. 750,000 jobs lost and 125,000 housing assistance deprivations.
Chipstick, know that we are there with you in spirit, and we appreciate all you do in keeping this place here for those of us who support our President, First Lady and family.

Deep Comment here…Bob…

Damn, Bobfr, is this for real? I’ve seen amazing thunderbolts in RSA, but not like this in France. Uh-huh, global warming — no such thing. Liberal/commie/socialist/kenyan/etc. propaganda. And that is repeatedly broadcasted by the real propaganda machine — Faux News.
Apparently, it is Gazelle. And, yes, it would be interesting if anyone has ever captured in a photo a lighting strike on the Tower, before. We are way beyond the tipping point of climatic chaos, for sure.
That is an amazing photo, Bob. Thanks for sharing. Now I will share!

Another sane republican that “gets it”….sometimes I can actually feel the disappointment from him…it looks like he realizes he was betrayed.
http://thinkprogress.org/health/2013/03/10/1696781/women-republicans/
I do not know of one Republican today who can present a rational, truthful argument for a GOP agenda.
It will take several million Steve Schmidt’s if the GOP is ever to be a valid conservative opposition party, again … see my comment to pf58, up thread.
Until women feel fully enabled by such a conservative opposition party, it will have little national significance and very narrow influence at the State, CD and local level.
#FORWARD
THIS ^^^
Oh - I posted my comment before I read yours - we agree
Hi DF. I know what he said is nice about women, but every time I see Schmidt, I think Palin.
As he should be.
hello everyone….
RE: the RT function on twitter…what does it do and how do you use it….
Hope that helps
thanks Bob…
what i meant is that some tweets have the …RT….in the actual tweet…what does that mean and when would you use that….
Cheers!
ty so much…

That’s the Republicans motto, take from the poor and middle class to give to the rich.
It is hard to imagine the reality of a budget that “reduces food stamps”. Let the people die seems to be the GOP motto.
Here is another motto of the Republicans, “Yes we care about people. We are anti-abortion, but once the baby is born we don’t give a dam about the baby or the Mother. You are on your own.
Boy Chelsea must really suck if the best they could do was tie Man U and we know, because UT tells us, that Man U sucks.
We both know what you are doing with that comment!!! Just imagine if Chips and UT happened to both be here, now. It’d be like watching what happens as you tossed a match on a bundle of dry twigs soaked in gasoline
You are looking to get UT started this afternoon I see.
On another note - I heard that PBO was on fire last night!
He was absolutely on fire! My neighbors must think I ‘m losing it with all the howling going on here in my house. That transcript is absolutely hilarious- I wish I could have seen it.
Oh sweet, sweet, sweet glorious afternoon. I LOVE YOU CHELSEA WITH THE HEAT OF A THOUSAND SUNS!!!!!
Coming up from 2-0 to dominate Man U in the second half and ending up with 2-2 because Mata was unfortunately blocked at the last second or it would have been 3-2 with Chelsea winning and heading on to the semi-final to face Manchester City.
Now we return to Stamford to replay Man U for a semi-final spot against Man. City and my boys are going to kick ass as usual.
Thank you Chelsea for the 2nd half you magnificent, beautiful, glorious, champions amongst riffraff. Watching Alex Ferguson’s face as his Man U team disintegrated in the second half was sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
As Ricky Bobby from Talladega Nights would say: “Thank you sweet baby Jesus!”
Liberal Librarian, see you at Stamford Bridge where our boys will crush Man U.
p.s. I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE YOU CHELSEA!
Dearest Chips, you are an angel!! Peace and love, ALWAYS!!

Otherwise, this is just meant as a wedge issue for the 2014 elections again.
Ryan has to keep up his role of never doing anything useful in congress
Republicans are still doing it: overreach. Proceed, guys. You’ll see how the public responds.
These guys are driving me nuts. Gosh, I hope they get a spanking in 2014.
The Jerusalem Covention Center where POTUS will be speaking holds 10,000 people. Also the Israelis held a logo contest for a symbol of this visit. Final winner looks like a combination of the Obama rising sun thingy and the israeli flag. Very cool. Also a seat contest for 20 seats which so far brought 400 requests.
PBO’s visit is Big News in Israel. Not so much here.
I wonder why????
Hmm…interesting.

They don’t know what they are talking about. Now the tweets are gone.
Easy to delete a tweet than say you got something wrong - but I did somewhat like this tweet
Although I make an exception, here and there (such as for VP Biden - that man never gets outdated!).
Hi 99,
Please understand that my reference to them as ‘four of the most out-of-touch members of the human race’ had ZERO to do with their respective ages, 99.
Cheers!
Bob
Yes We Can
I know that Bob - and I agree with Jacqueline - there are people of all ages who do wonderful things - but I hate it when some who should retire - hang on to past power that they should pass to someone else. I move slower as I age (many may not) and cannot achieve what I used to in the past. I can remember being empowered by 12 hour work days - now to think about it makes me tired - sigh!
We’re in synch, 99. Though, I can’t help but imagine what you’re still mightily empowered!!

Great comment, Bob!

I always thought Carl Bernstein was an Obama supporter. Guess not!
Seems to cover most of the issue carolyn - nothing like the wealthy telling the poor they don’t need food stamps and medicare.
Exactly.
Carolyn - because of what I do, I’m constantly interacting with folk from their teens, upward
And, I don’t do ‘pander’ ever.
Yes We Can
I’m sure you don’t…..but those women do.
Hope none of that is ambiguous.

Good day Carolyn,
It appeared by your response to my initial comment was that the ‘Bob’ you were referring was me and not Bob Schieffer. If I misunderstood then I apologize for my additional comment to you.

Here are the three logos competing for President Obama’s visit to Israel .
http://web1.globalpost.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/gp3_slideshow_large/photos/2013-February/israel_obama_operation_unbreakable_alliance.jpeg
Carolyn, what is the name and denomination of your church? More are needed.
Yes, we have. And we have brought other people to the church…..Never before have I invited people to church…..

Hay Mitch McConnell, POTUS told me to tell you that it’s not his main goal, but he is determined to make this your last term.
Yeehaw!
It seems highly likely she will run and all the intrigue is just what it is, df. Announcing in May would coincide with the Derby, but frankly she doesn’t need a stunt like that to ‘draw national attention’
She’s already drawn massive attention from the turtle and rwnjs who are obviously freaked at the thought of her candidacy.

How did he do at interviewing? I think as older folks the film was better for us.
Prince Michael did a good job. The stars and director said they were impress, and he wasn’t nervous, he knew what he was talking about when discussing making of movies, so people seem to be impress with Prince Michael.
I’m going to have to catch FLOTUS on Rachel Ray show on the website. I don’t know why they took Rachel off in my area. They replace her with Ricky Lake show and now that is gone off.
So, to sum up my day:
Chelsea lived to fight another day.
The Lakers are starting to look like, well, the Lakers.
Tiger dominated.
And I made one hell of a bbq for the missus’ evening meal after a day of protein drinks.
Yep, pretty good day.
Really love your enthusiasm…
Happy for you and your wife, LL.
Bob,
Thanks a lot for your update on the potential challenger to cry baby orangeman.
i will follow up
Thank you Linda
when Sports Illustrated (SI) listed POTUS as number 44 of the most powerful people in sports, a number of O-haters were not happy & they threatened to cancel subscriptions to SI - not clear how many had any.
well, here is 1 more headline to make rightwingers really angry: “Michelle Obama is the Best Dressed Woman” http://www.examiner.com/article/michelle-obama-is-the-best-dressed-woman-according-to-the-sunday-times
The slides of her in that link are absolutely beautiful. She simply shines in everything she wears.
Indeed, JO! It’s no wonder jealousy (envy) was included among the seven deadly sins.

I see on Twitter that Intrade has shut down. I guess their purpose to predict Republican landslides didn’t pan out last November….
Pretty much!
This is weird - but I do wonder why the US can deal with such groups who operate outside the US but seem incapable of charging those who damage financial markets from within.

More U.S. Profits Parked Abroad, Saving on Taxes
Source: WSJ (Google title for article)
U.S. companies are making record profits.
Kind of goes with this…
http://www.balloon-juice.com/2013/03/10/carl-levin-trying-to-change-the-system-from-within/
And yet, Df, these companies must be protected at all costs, according to the Republican lackeys in Congress who are paid to do the bidding of these corporate bosses.’ Tax loopholes and corporate profits are so important we have to slash government functions across the board and put the financial burden of running the country on seniors, the poor, students and anyone else who is least able to handle it.

Well, where do you think those BILLIONS that went “missing” under GWB actually ARE? What a corrupt little cretin he is.
So when America leaves Afghan, and the people run his sorry ass out of the country he can run to were he is hiding our money.
You betcha!
Another mess Bush and Cheney left for POTUS to try to clean up.
Send some drones and wipe out the poppy fields.
They’ll be back a year later - waste of good drones
It’ll mess with their economy big time plus drug traffic too.
Precisely, nath. Cogent as always. Thank you!!

This Guy in charge of Yellowstone said-
“They spend millions of dollars to operate Air Force One, and they can’t come up with some money to blow open the roads in Yellowstone?” Cole said.

Crazy-ass tea Bagger!
Tell the Cole guy, he need to contact John Boehner and his Republican Party.
Jovie, a pilot claims to have spotted a drone near JFK airport and the FBI investigated. Local media says it’s probably not a drone, but a balloon or model airplane. LOL!
Was Rand Paul the pilot?
Good question. Maybe Rand Paul’s cousin.
I seen one when I went to Hooters today. I noticed it was not an attack Drone, just spying on me and the Girls.
Probably, the drone was hired by my ex Wife?
ROTFLMAO! Drone will be sending ex a detailed report…Spy away drone, spy away…
Lol!
Been reading that Obama may appoint Susan Rice as National Security Advisor.

am I correct that this position does not need Senate confirmation? if true wouldn’t this be the perfect way to piss in Ms Lindsey & Grandpa McLame’s eye?
Yes, and yes.
That’s correct.
Good! Hate to say it, but a fitting end.
Ok, I just watched Numbers station and the CIA broadcast numbers as codes for Agents in the field.
I going to try it..

Did you get that?
Either I’m way out of touch … or … “how to kill a conversation” …
Ha! In either case, goodnight, Jovie and TODville!
Okay.
I know it is early…….very early.
But I just wanted to be the first to shout…..
GOOD MORNING CHIPS!
Welcome back! We love you! We missed you!
We thank God for you.
(Going back to bed…..my walking partner is still fighting a cold)
Any excuse, I know. But this day light saving time is too much. Need a week to catch up on the hour that was taken from me.
Rest and sleep is very important to this body.
I think a lot of people will be early, because we’re all anxious to make sure our prayers were answered and Chips was restored by a wee respite.
Good Morning one and all.
Hope that you all had a restful weekend. Most especially our Chips!
Hello everyone - also sending love & peace to Miss Chips
Rep Conyers stands with Rand Paul?
Hey Conyers, you POS, you have been standing against this President since January 20, 2009…
Apparently it goes for youth as well because Conyers has an abysmal history when it comes to actually getting anything done.
Yes he does, derbingle. He has always been all talk and no action. He has never served the best interests of his constituents, only the best interests of John Conyers.
I don’t think to much of Conyers anyway.
Just like Maxine Waters.
It’s the same hustle it’s been for eons.
Fight the power, get elected, become the power, do nothing, saber rattle during election season, get reelected, rinse and repeat steps 3 thru 6.

Thanks UT for the heads up.
Donald Trump is so obsessed with the President that he just has to insert himself in anything where he can get our President’s attention.
FU, Donald! Why don’t you just pay ALL your taxes and GO AWAY!
Exactly. And why doesn’t he fund the hundreds of thousands of jobs lost instead?
Over 750,000 people could lose their jobs and the haters want to complain about touring the White House.

Happy Monday! Morning everyone….Morning, Chips:) Hope that you had a superb weekend! We were good:)
Karma. Intrade was being gamed to make the GOP’s prospects seem better than they were.
Good morning, Chips and TODville. Happy Daylight Savings Time Monday to you!!
G’morning meta. I’m not sure about the “Happy” part where Daylight Savings Time is concerned. Especially on a Monday morning!
I know the whole country must be in slow gear but I like DST much better. We’ll all catch up sooner or later!
I argue that the Monday after DST should be a Federal Holiday!
Amen.
All in favour, say ‘aye’.
Aye!

http://videocafe.crooksandliars.com/david/pelosi-raising-medicare-age-its-scalp
Right on Rep. Pelosi. Don’t back down.
GM Chips and TODville Villagers:
Here’s a Song by Jesus Jones that was all in my Mind today.
Does anybody know if there are any good Dems in Michigan who can run to fill Carl Levin’s Senate seat? I heard one of the Romneys was going to try for it on the Republican side and we can’t let that happen. Anyone from Michigan know the lay of the land?
Jennifer Granholm is a wonderful Democrat.
Would love to see her back in Congress.

And the gun beat goes on—-12 shot in D.C. in a drive-by shooting. In addition to the insanity of firing willy-nilly into a crowd, I wonder what a crowd was doing outside at 2:00a.m. on a Sunday night in March in D.C.
Dotster, that is a high traffic area; apartments, fast food, and a bus stop are in that area. not everyone works 9-5. Folks could have been going to/from work, or just socializing…
Yup. More than a few spots like that in D.C..
