I reckon Andrew Sullivan is about as consistent as Willard Romney when it comes to his political views, so I’m never too bothered by what he has to say, one way or another.
Still, I appreciated what he had to say here (from CrooksAndLiars).
Thanks DesertFlower

Back later, I need to take a few more dozen pills to ease the pain of Manchester City winning the title.

This is a good one!
Gratz maryl1!!!
Congrats on first. . . Must watch TV
NICE!
Great for Mother’s Day! Thanks Chips. You can see where Michelle’s loving spirit comes from.
Thank you Mrs. Robinson for your lovely daughter Michelle. Happy Mother’s Day to you both.
I LOVE Andrew’s words here so much!
In other news…… Beckham earns his paycheck again. It’s why it’s called The Beautiful Game.
Tally, after today it’s The Insufferable Game
I know… hang in there babe. I know your pain:
http://settingthetable.info/
MUAHAHAHAHAHA Chips. Can you smeeeeeeellllll the Manchester City Barclays Premiership League Victory? Can you feel the tears flowing from the squirrel man Rooney. Can you feel the roar of Chelsea beating the Rovers?
It is official. Manchester United is now the SUCKIEST team ever.
I’ll be sending you a bottle of tequila to drown your tears.
:D :D :D :D
Chips: how to make this expression of chagrin?
Are you going to shit bananas when he goes to the WH?!! OMG. I know I will :)
It will be interesting to see WHO exactly goes, last years roster (who actually WON the cup), this years, or both.
Didn’t know that:)
I mean, they get to meet POTUS. I say EVERYONE goes. :D
Especially since they are doing a thing afterwards with FLOTUS!!!
Cute tweet from our PBO himeslf :)
“He’s going to disappoint us again.” This is what drives me nuts. Why go there?
He didn’t need to say that..however, he seemed sincerely moved by this President and this accomplishment. Choked up, I would say.
Just a pet peeve of mine with people who just can’t give credit without the buts and other add ons. No doubt he appears genuinely moved.
I understand. I think when he said “he’s going to disappoint us again” he was only referring to the SSM issue, not disappoint in the larger sense. Still, your point is well taken, and I agree.
:) :)
Here’s Smartypants on Sullivan. She got a ‘preview’ of his Newsweek article via her i-pad

I love Smartpants:) Sully has had his “Ah Ha” moment.
indeed!
Really? You do, Df? ;) I KNOW you do that’s why I dropped the link in at this point.
Special Mother’s Day greetings to you!
Thank you, vc:)
Thanks, vc. I’m big Smartypants fan, too. Nice piece!!
Another one? ;) ;)
SP very often jerks my brains awake with just a slightly different touch to the talk of the day.
I think he means on other issues. How can he disappoint on same sex marriage? He won’t flip flop on it. The DOJ already stopped defending DOMA and he’s already told us it should be a state issue.
there are some folks for whom this President will always seem lacking..so i try to keep things in perspective…and to always consider the source and the motive
Politics is a rollercoaster, goes up and down. I choose to watch from the sidelines. People like Sullivan now want to give him a rainbow halo and call him a gay President. And PBO has never disappointed on gays rights. He was phenomenal before and he is phenomenal now.
THISSSSSSSSSS!
Me too! except that it is his most singular issue to be resolved and i can feel his pain and pride.
An thank goodness he didn’t stay there! He goes on to give President Obama all the credit his courageous announcement deserves.
I think that is unfair. He was referring to the office of presidency disappointing him in that he expected only a lip service. Over a long time he has been disappointed that all past presidents have treated this as some political issue. I believe when he says “he is going to disappoint us…” he refers to the office of presidency.
Oh my God africatimes2. I was thinking the same thing why go there. Many of our gay/lesbian and transgendered brothers and sisters seem to always go there when its not necessary furthering the divide between them and blacks who support there cause. Why the need President Obama to daddy is beyond comprehension. Giving voice or support from the president is important but its the people who they need to have stand with them. Taking diggs at the president is not warranted. Everything else he said afterwards was lovely.
Having a great day with my family. I am missing my grand daughter who is still in school in N.H. Have a good one my friends.

Former Obama White House communications director Anita Dunn used an appearance Sunday on a Mother’s Day panel to attack Mitt Romney’s positions on women’s issues.
“Mitt Romney has a backward-looking attitude, particularly when it comes to women that I think will come out,” Dunn said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”
President Barack Obama holds a substantial advantage over Romney in polls of woman voters for two reasons, she said: “President Obama’s record and Mitt Romney’s policies.”
Hey Chips, I was waiting by the back door, which door did you use to get in? Happy mommy’s Day & do gIve mom a special hug from the quiet one at TOD please. ;)
http://www.thedailybanter.com/2012/05/the-most-pro-marriage-president-ever/
By Oliver Willis
May 12,2025
The predictable knuckle-dragging conservative response to President Obama’s support for same-sex marriage was to immediately declare that marriage was under attack. Fox News was, as usual, the first idiot brigade on the battlefield.
But with his evolution on the issue, President Obama now ranks as the most pro-marriage President the United States has ever had. He’s thrown away the stale idea of limiting marriage only to heterosexual couples in the same fashion that the notion that black and white couples should not mix. Let’s not forget that the President is the result of a union of two races that was once against the law in America.
Things change, minds change, civilizations advance and progress marches on. It’s not easy getting there and there are often setbacks along the way, but if your goal is equality and liberty and modernity it is well worth the fight.
We’re one step closer.
awesome!
Thanks, Tally:) Good stuff.

MUST SEE
Cnn came to Shiloh Baptist church (predominately black) in Wash. DC attempting to find divisiveness and/or sow discord among black people regarding President Obama’s statement in agreement with gay marriage equality. The pastor told CNN that he does not address politics, but they will NOT be divided over this issue. Yay for that pastor.
Wonderful news. Any way anyone here could get a message to that pastor??
Reverend Doctor Wallace Charles Smith

Nice!!!
This article says that in North Carolina the support for the anti-marriage amendment among the black populations actually dropped by 10% in the last month of the campaign.
http://www.motherjones.com/mojo/2012/05/whats-next-gay-marriage-foes
“Sharon Lettman-Hicks, a gay activist and executive director of the National Black Justice Coalition, told the Atlantic recently that while “some black clergy have been pulled into this debate, our black churches are smarter than that. They won’t simply be used as pawns to push NOM’s hate.”
In your FACE…CNN! WE know the game.
Good for him. Media is so intent on pushing the meme that Black people hate gays and it’s their fault Amend. One went down. They also want so bad to pit Black people against Obama. Thankfully this church did not allow that.
Take note, Tavis and Corney.
This is an article I mentioned on the last thread and forgot to post :P It’s from a white religious perspective.

Bye for awhile. Helping with neighbor’s graduation party. Later………..
It’s good to have a conservative like Andrew Sullivan say these things. He has been a PBO supporter for a long time, despite his conservative views on many policy issues. In this he touches the human issue. All of us want to be welcome to the table. Not rejected and despised for who we are. So, even if the President can’t change some laws and policies, he can speak as the leader of America that those who have been rejected are now welcome and full members of this national family.
Nice comment, Bill :)
Glad I’m not the only one noticing this. He’s obsessed with the President - just like his cronies in the media. If you look at @BarackObama’s tweets, relatively fewer of the tweets contain the words “Mitt Romney,”
Mitt Romney is the “Look At That Shiny Object” candidate.
I bet Romney said President Obama told him to wish his wife Ann a Happy Mother’s Day.
simple reason: mitt the entitled liar and bully cannot create buzz or interest on his own and has very few twitter followers. that is why he is trying to use PBO’s to get some kind of attention from people who are tuned in to “all things Obama”
What can i say? Mitt must have someone to follow, and who better that the best leader in town?
Why is Beckham’s team wearing shirts that say Herbalife??!
Because that’s our sponsor. 99% of all club (not national) soccer teams worldwide have their sponsor’s name on the front of their jerseys.
Wow. I didn’t know they were still around. I remember their headquarters near LAX back 15 years ago. Brings back awful memories of my brother and his wife convincing me to sell that stuff back in the 80s when I lived in Dallas. Oh well, maybe it’s new and improved. Congrats on your team’s big win!
Yeah Herbalife is still around. Remember the founder commited suicide, drug over dose. When I was in college there was a guy who was selling their so called herbal vitamins.
Yeah - Herbalife is crap. I’m grateful it’s not Amway, but that’s about it. :)
A google kiss for mom-
When I saw that this morning…it put a smile on my face:) I thought it was adorable.
Very sweet! It’s cute little things like this that make me bemoan my lack of talent.
Note that President Obama endorsing marriage equality, that many of the right wing have stopped talking about jobs and the economy. They instead want to talk about Obama supposedly dividing the country by endorsing marriage equality.
And then they want to dismiss Mitt’s high school bullying escapade as “nothing,” but STILL want to push the “Obama eats dogs” and “bullied a young girl” attack lines, both of which are FALSE. They are continuing to demonstrate they have NOTHING of substance whatsoever against our POTUS, just childish baseless attacks and smears.
I’m glad we have a President who won’t bend over and allow himself to get Swiftboated like John Kerry did in 2004. As much as I admire Kerry and voted for him in 2004, he decided to fight back way too late. Our President is fighting back hard and early in the game. I’m enjoying the webads against Rmoney that Team Obama continue to create and put out. The right are mad because they don’t have that kind of organization, all they have are big money interests that will put together crap ads that many Americans will be fed up with in a short amount of time.
The right (with the assist from the “liberal” media) have been pushing the belief that this election is about the economy. I don’t believe that will be the case. Not this year. I think it will boil down to likability and who you can trust. EtchAMitt is already showing he has no core nor leadership abilities and people are still trying to figure if he’s genuine or not. He even SOUNDS fake. I just don’t think he will win - not with so many not really trusting anything he says.
I posted this on the last thread for Fred. As most people have NO IDEA that the President CUT their taxes, this is a handy page to keep in your favorites…we KNOW this will come up again:) Breaks it all down by states, which is nice.

AND THE GROUND GAME….GETTING OUR FOLKS REGISTERED AND TO THE POLLS…..WILL BE KEY
Team Obama is leaving nothing to chance this election. And thankfully, our President also has millions of O’Bots scattered all over the US and elsewhere aggressively pushing back on false MSM memes, calling out and exposing GOP pundiots on CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS and ABC on Twitter, FaceBook, TOD, and other O’blogs. We will not bullied out of the WH in 2012. NOT. THIS TIME.

Obama 50
Romney 42

Hannity’s in your backyard? Trespassing? Tell him and his exploded head that he better clean up the mess he left:)
I chased him out - shattered head and all!
Should be a larger spread, if you ask me.
An almost 10 point spread is good enough for me, and remember it’s a FOX poll, be glad that they aren’t echoing Rasmusssen where they have Mitt up by eight points.
Needs to be 50 points. The guy is morally and ethically corrupt

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States is being as open as possible about international negotiations to create a nine-nation free trade agreement in the Asia-Pacific region but has to maintain some secrecy in the talks, the top U.S. trade official said.
“I believe … that we have very faithfully operated within the spirit of the Obama administration to have the most engaged and transparent process as we possibly could,” U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk said in an interview from Dallas, where the United States is hosting the 12th round of negotiations this week on the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) pact.
“But there’s a practical reason, for our ability both to preserve negotiating strength and to encourage our partners to be willing to put issues on the table they may not otherwise, that we have to preserve some measure of discretion and confidentiality,” Kirk said.

I’m back from my Ganna Day gift of a trip to the movies with grandson to see The Avengers. It was actually a pretty good movie, if you like that sort of thing. I was happy seeing the little one enjoy himself so much. I had to laugh out loud when a clip of Jay Carney showed up apparently giving the White House’s response to the the bad guys taking over the metropolis. That is, until our superheroes save the day. Booyah!
Nice to hear you had fun on Ganna Day, CM. Did grandson act the ‘southern gentleman’, opening doors for ganna, etc?
Thanks. Oh yes he did. We’re still working on that. He gets it that he has to do it for all ladies, but he doesn’t get the why of it, especially for his older sister. He’s like, “ugh, she can do it herself, she’s not old like you.”
“ugh, she can do it herself, she’s not old like you.”
Ouch, ganna. I couldn’t help the chuckle as I could just picture his outrage.
yeah, he thinks I roamed around with the dinosaurs and girls are yucky to him right now. That’ll change though (the girl part, not the dinosaur part).
I couldn’t get a copy of this cartoon to post, but this is truly what Mitt has promised to do to the “not rich”. He truly scares me.

YW! That was the only video I could find.
Apparently Barney Frank ridiculed Marsha Blackburn and made her look foolish on ABC. Took a trip over to HuffyFluffy on that one thread discussing Frank vs. Blackburn, and yes it’s overrun with righties attacking Frank for his sexuality and claiming that the JP Morgan mess is his fault.
What the righties don’t want to acknowledge is that without Dodd-Frank, the taxpayer would have been on the hook for that money lost by JP Morgan. And they want to repeal Dodd-Frank which would keep what happened at JP Morgan from happening again in the future… the Republcians not only WANT it to happen again in the future, they want the TAXPAYERS to foot the bill. This is a message that Democrats, including President Obama, need to make crystal clear: that the Republicans are in bed with the Kochs/Wall Street, and that Dems will fight for the middle class.
Amen, nin! were it not for Dodd Frank…we’d be on the hook once again..
Wooohoooooo….good news people!
But Chuck Todd sez it’s bad news for Obama.
I was just going to post the same thing! You know exactly what the GOP is doing by listening to the media, they telegraph everything
On the other Hand, Robney has no idea what is on store!
Chuckie Todd is another David Gregory.
Did anyone watch the 60 Minutes report on the Gulen movement of charter schools that are popping up everywhere in this country (and around the world). My impression is horror. They are run by some secretive Turkish Muslim iman who preaches tolerance etc. but that might be a lie as I’ve found in a little bit of research. They’re bringing in all Turkish teachers —-only men—-believe women belong in the home—-getting rid of all the American teachers and unions—-who are then required to send 40% of pay back to Turkey. $150 million taxpayer money supports these schools. Read about the one in In.—-Math and Science Academy—-wined and dined Gov. Daniels and the mayor of Indy and Lugar and all the other Repub politicans, who have signed on in support. We have one in Chgo —-Math and Science Academy—-which has a great academic reputation but I was not aware of who was running the show. One of the reasons these charter schools have a good academic reputation is they brag they take these mostly low income students and have a 100% college acceptance record. The reason they have 100% college acceptance is that is a requirement for graduation. So, no acceptance, no graduation—thus the 100% they boast about. There is tons of frightening info online—-and petitions calling for investigation. Creepy to the max. Here’s the info on the 60 Minutes report.
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-18560_162-57433131/u.s-charter-schools-tied-to-powerful-turkish-imam/
Dotster, first I’ve heard of the “Gulen” movement. I’m not crazy about charter schools, period. They don’t educate ALL students. On average, they don’t do any better than regular public schools. They are often run by profit-making entities. They bust unions and skim public schools for the best (read: easiest) students. They discriminate against students with special education needs. They are a farce and should NOT receive tax payer dollars because they are NOT public schools.
^^^^This!!
Here’s more info. I think everyone needs to be aware of this. It’s horrifying.

And here is a list of these Gulen Movement charter schools now operating in the U.S. with taxpayer dollars (100 or more in the works)

Who is surprised to read this? http://news.yahoo.com/top-aide-florida-governor-resigns-amid-scrutiny-182853334.html . Crooks and hypocrites….all of them. One more example.
Another really interesting take on Mitt and the bullying from a blog I just found on a friend’s recommendation:
http://ihnatko.com/
“If you want to win, at some point you have to do something to make people think of you as someone who could be a President. Obama had That Moment when a ranty video surfaced of his pastor giving a screechy and angry sermon. Out of context, the video played to some people like a call for racial violence.
The video went viral and it became a major distraction. The campaign could have ignored it or parried it off. Instead, they recognized it as opportunity for Obama to stand behind a podium, say some important basic things about who he is and what he believes, and in doing so, prove to the world that he was fully qualified and prepared to occupy the Oval Office.”
“This week, as the result of either Circumstance or “Careful Management” on the part of Romney’s opponents, the campaign is dealing with its own distraction: stories of the cruel bullying or dumb pranks (pick one) that he instigated when he was in high school. For now, Romney seems to be content to parry it all off with an “acknowledgment apology”
“I imagine that a national political campaign is disorienting for someone who’s spent his or her entire adult life as a successful CEO. It can be the first time in decades that he or she is actually being held personally accountable for the results of their actions. ”
There’s more, and it’s good stuff. The insight about the difference between being a CEO and a candidate is excellent.
I hate how they’re just accepting that Romney “spent his or her entire adult life as a successful CEO”. He didn’t. They’ve conveniently forgotten that he was a very reluctant Bain Capital employee and had to be promised a cover up in the case of failure; he was a failed governor before he was run out of town after one term; he took tons of taxpayer dollars to “rescue” the Olympics. He doesn’t seem to understand that a “managed bankruptcy” wasn’t possible to restore the auto industry. He is NOT a “successful CEO”. He’s made a lot of money, but he should be ashamed at the lives he’s ruined to do it.
I don’t think the point was that he was a great businessman, just that he lives in a world where the top men are not really answerable for their decisions.
Thanks so much fo rthis link-I just came back from spending over an hour there and I enjoyed the site and learned many new things to boot. Excellent.
SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - California Governor Jerry Brown was elected in 2010 on a promise to fix the state’s chronic fiscal crisis. His weekend announcement of a much bigger-than-expected shortfall in the state budget signals how far he still has to go.
In an unusual move that underscored the highly politicized nature of the state budget, Brown took to YouTube on Saturday to deliver the bad news: the state’s projected budget deficit for the fiscal year starting July 1 is now $16 billion, up from the $9 billion anticipated in January.
The Democratic governor also warned of further cuts to an already-battered public education system if voters rejected a tax increase in a ballot initiative this fall.
http://mobile.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSBRE84D00020120514?irpc=932
If People don’t start approving tax hikes, their Children will just have to do without School. It’s that simple!
who is he increasting taxes on….the middle class and working poor or the millionaires and billionaires
The tax increase will be on mostly the top wage earners. I read that there is a possibility that Democrats will be 2/3rds of the legislature which there could be a vote by the legislature to increase taxes as well.
O/T Rant: The Banks
I fricking hate B of A. They took tax payer money to bail their butts out and then turn around and charge $60 for “maintenance fees” on an account that I worked hard to have a zero balance on. I’ve heard a lot of people complain about them before, but these bastards really screwed with me today. So I called them up and wasted 10 minutes being directed by a dumb automated voice telling me to press this and say that, directing me all over the place but the one place I want to be which is talking to their customer service stooge so I can tell them what bastards they work for. So I finally talked to this guy- a product of outsourcing no doubt- and I’m
yellingtelling him that my account has had a zero balance since ___ and what the hell does he mean by B of A putting a $60 charge on my fricking card? I only knew about it cause I got an e-mail alert and I thought someone had stolen my card number and was using it. The guy tells me it’s a maintenance fee and I said: “Oh yeah? How comes no other card company is charging me a ‘maintenance fee’?” Long pause, then ‘John’ tells me: “Oh, um. It’s a maintenance fee so you can use your card.” Me: “Oh really? So I’m paying insurance basically to use a card I don’t use?” He says: “yeeees?” So I say: “You know what, B of A is a piece of crap! Didn’t your bosses take tax payer dollars to bail your asses out of the trouble y’all got yourselves into? Now you’re telling me I’ve got to pay for your bosses corporate jets and upscale prostitutes all under a nifty little guise of ‘maintenance fees’? You’re damned right maintenance fees. I am maintaing you! Maintaining your bosses in expensive homes for their stepford wives- who’d just as much turn up their noses at me than look me in the eyes- and expensive hotels for their high class whores!” I went on to tell him that I knew he wasn’t the one who was at fault, but that the soulless, cowardly corporate owners where such yellow bellies that they made it next to impossible for regular folks they screwed over to contact them, so he would just have to let me get my shit off my chest. He said he understood and told me that THAT BANK has credit cards where you don’t have to pay fees, I would only have to close this account down and sign up for the other. I stopped him and said: ” Wait a minute. Close down my account? Doesn’t that ruin my credit score?” He paused and said: “you would have to speak with your credit bureau about that, we wouldn’t have that information.” I said: “I’m not an idiot. I worked very hard for my credit scores, if you close a credit account, it impacts your credit score and not in a good way.” Finally he sighed and said: “from my own personal experience that is true but we aren’t allowed to tell you that so you have to ask your credit bureau.” Meaning it does ruin your credit but he’s not allowed to say that because it gets in the way of THAT BANK’s ability to screw you over then charge you an arm and a leg for the displeasure. Bastards. Fricking banks. Soulless, disgusting, putrid bastards. I hope the head honcho’s over at THAT BANK never get a decent night of sleep again. Freaks. Maintenance my f-ing ass.ps- here’s what THAT BANK is doing with your money, it’s from October 2011, but it’s salient information
http://blog.chron.com/lorensteffy/2011/10/bank-of-americas-latest-bailout-bigger-than-ever/
lisa, I’m pretty familiar with credit scores as I work in the mortgage industry and I haven’t heard that to be true about closing out a credit card and opening another. If it affects your score it would be minimal. What would be true is if this was your only credit that gets reported - having no credit does adversely affect your score. But if you have a mortgage, auto and any other credit card closing this one would have minimal, if any, effect.
This link is from Money magazine - see Myth #5. I have had a Discover Card for years and have never been charged an annual fee or maintenance fee - much better than those bank cards. (p.ls. I’m not a fan of BofA either - for all the reasons you stated.)
http://money.msn.com/credit-rating/7-nasty-credit-myths-that-will-not-die-weston.aspx?page=2
hey forus,
the reason I know about the closing account= damage to credit score is because it happened to my mom. she wasn’t using her credit card so the company closed it and it affected her superb credit score- my mom got me credit conscious, so much so that I’m now obsessed. My mom’s score used to be so good it was ridiculous. She told me that it didn’t drop a whole lot but the damage is done. The reason it’s concerning for me is because I’ve spent the last 5 years building a good credit score, whereas the impact for my mom was obvious but not very threatening, the same wouldn’t be said for me because I’ve got no mortgage to pay, no rent: I live on campus, and I don’t need a car so no auto insurance. I don’t have a very long credit history(like my mom) because I’ve always hated credit cards and I tend to only use them when absolutely necessary. I seriously hate these banks. Thanks so much for the link. I’m about to check it out.
Credit union, girl. GET A CREDIT CARD with a credit union. For real. NO maintenance charges, no annual fees, none of that bullshit. For realz. Here’s a link to their national organization. I’m sure you can find one near you!! (And no, I don’t work for them. I just gave up on banks years ago!!)
http://www.cuna.org/cuna/
Gotcha - that makes sense. Yeah, I third it on switching to a credit union as isonprize and desertflower suggest. And call or write to the CFPB!
Definite yes on the CFPB. Will look into the CUs
Closing your account does affect your credit score because one of the factors they look at is how long you’ve had the account. So having an account that you’ve had for 20 yrs is better than having an account for 1 yr. You close the account you’ve had for 20 years, you no longer have a current account with a 20 year history.
Thanks so much, Elle. :)
Lisa, what a righteous rant! I often think how glad I am you’re on our side. Here’s a little more feedback: in your Mom’s situation the bank closed the account, and that always has an impact. But I have a great credit rating and have closed many cards over many years of life and business. I just make sure that the person closing it says ‘closed by user.’ You can see that on your credit report. It’s true that it’s good to have accounts for a long time, so I keep one that I’ve had since the mid-90’s. So once you find one you like, you can make that the keeper.
I also agree strongly with Desertflower. Always fight (though we probably don’t need to tell you this!) They always back down. They only prey on the weak, the uninformed, and people who never balance they checkbooks.
First off…you’re right BofA is sinful. Second of all you need to report this very same rant to the Consumer FInancial Protection Bureau. Here’s the link: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/ I think what they’re doing is against the rules, and the CFPB will call them on it. Every consumer needs to know their rights, and get as pissed as you did! Lastly, move your money and your card to a credit union or community bank in your area. Don’t feed the beast that screws you:) Sorry you had to go through that….I have fought with these behemoths over my house for 4 years…I don’t take shit from them! They always back down when you know your rights and call them out…they assume that you’ll cave. Big Fucking Mistake!
thanks so much DF. I was so incensed I couldn’t believe it! Will look into sending comments to consumer finance. B of A is beyond ridiculous! :x
Great minds thnk alike. I just gave Lisa a link upthread… Credit Unions are the way to go!!
Hi LLO,
I did the same thing, spent four years paying off a credit card and the whole time NO annual fee. They are suppose to let you know in advance of charging the annual fee with the opportunity to close the account. I got one of those letters and wrote the president and VP of the company telling where they could stick their annual fee. I received a very apologetic letter that it was sent to me in error. I cancelled the damned card anyway because I have a credit union card.
Family Guy and Venture Brothers after Chelsea WON and Manchester United got CRUSHED?
Aweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesome!!!!!!!! :D :D :D
Please try to show a little more enthusiasm in life, utaustinliberal. You’re such a downer. Ha! :) :) :)
That is AFTER he gives the commencement address at Barnard College (Columbia U). :)
I wonder if that is with bill clinton?
The President also suppose to tape a episode of the View.
While he is in New York.
Wasn’t Ricky Martin part of the GW Bush entertainment?
President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign is actively getting behind the effort to recall Gov. Scott Walker from office, The Huffington Post reports.
The campaign is focusing its efforts on educating and registering voters in advance of the historic June 5 gubernatorial recall election.
Tripp Wellde, the Wisconsin state director for the Obama campaign, sent an email to supporters Thursday night, urging them to support Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, Walker’s Democratic opponent.
The Obama campaign also hosted “Own Your Vote” events around the state this weekend, described as “organizing phone banks and knocking on doors to make sure Wisconsinites are registered and ready to own their vote on Election Day,” according to The Huffington Post.

Walker need to be the first one to go. Send a sign to these Republicans that we’ve only just begun. We will clean House across this country of these radical extreme racists Republicans, and let’s start with Scott Walker.
It’s also a good dry run, so to speak.
Failure is not an option. It worries me that this election is in June. The GOTV effort has to be overkill because people have a hard time voting in these special elections. I read somewhere that the Citizen United dollars are just bombarding the state with mailers and airwaves. I wouldn’t put it past them to hire canvassers either. Viciously ugly stuff.

Another good choice, Pamela!
I see there is a typo, or should be our, but you probably got that JO’B! Hope you have had a lovely mothers day!
Thanks, Pamela, I have! Hope you enjoyed your day, too!
Peter from Family Guy just joined the tea party a supposedly grassroots organization run by his uber wealthy father-in-law Mr. Carter Pewterschmidt. Pewterschmidt poses as “Joe Regular Working Man” who rallies the town with cries of “Take Our Govt. Back” because he doesn’t want to pay fair taxes. Seth McFarlane is nailing it. Looooove the irony.
There’s just no debating with you on this, Aristac. That you so snarkily dismissed my point about gay visitors to TOD says it all really, you’re not looking for a discussion, only a divisive row. I won’t bite.
Chips please stop that nonsense I AM GAY. I didn’t dismiss anything I knowvery well what you were trying to do. There are many in the gay community who DID THINK THAT WAS A WEDGE ISSUE. So please stop. You have no inkling what a distastful letter that was to African Americans and you have no wish to even see or here what we are trying to say. I AM DONE!
Family Guy is hilariously but seriously showing what happens when the tea party takes over and destroys government. Lawlessness, pollution, big business screws the little guy, no food & water regulation, no road maintenance, no garbage collection, no healthcare, no education. Chaos reigns everywhere.
Finally the people decide to come together and form a Government where we elect people to represent us at all levels of government: City, Local, State, Federal. They decide to pay taxes so that they have free education, healthcare, public works and services, regulation, protection so that Wall Street doesn’t screw everyone over. Poor and middleclass pay taxes of course, but the uber wealthy pay more because they earn more.
And hey……what do you know? Order is restored.
Bottom line: Some form of government is needed for a society to function. :D
:) This one has citations to back it up!

Increasingly hard-pressed to find buyers for its petroleum, Iran has been routinely switching off satellite tracking systems on its sea-bound oil tankers for more than a month, in what U.S. officials and industry analysts describe as a cat-and-mouse game with Western governments seeking to enforce sanctions on Iranian exports.
The unusual tactic was begun in early April and now affects a quarter of Iran’s tanker fleet, according to the International Energy Agency, which has been monitoring the practice. The move, a violation of maritime law, is only modestly effective in cloaking 1,000-foot-long tankers as they ply the oceans in search of open ports and willing buyers. But it underscores Iran’s precarious position as it faces ever-tighter Western restrictions against its oil industry, which provides the bulk of export and government revenue.
Hobbled by sanctions against its banks and a growing international boycott of its petroleum, Iran is seeing its revenue sag while its oil sits in storage depots and floats in tankers with nowhere to go, U.S. security officials and diplomats say.

Iran has a simple way out of this dilemma. We can only hope they take if for all our sakes.

THE REPUBLICAN PARTY IS FULL OF LIARS AND HYPOCRITES
John Boehner Thinks You Are Blind and Stupid
———————————
Lying and hypocrisy must be requirements for membership in the Republican Party, because it is rampant among Republicans. Speaker Boehner’s assertion that the GOP has stayed focused on jobs is easily refuted, and yet he persists in lying as if Americans have been in a daze for the past year and a half or fail to remember that just two years ago, Boehner was making the same pitch that Republicans were intent on creating jobs. There is nothing Republicans have done for the past three years that remotely resembles fostering job creation and, in fact, they have worked tirelessly to destroy as many public and private sector jobs as possible to portray President Obama’s handling of the economy as a failure. However, despite the GOP’s obstruction, the President’s policies have turned the economy around, fostered growth, and created more jobs in three years than George W. Bush did in eight and it is a testament to Democrats and President Obama’s policies oriented towards helping all Americans and not just the filthy rich.
.
.
It is unknown how many Americans will fall for Boehner’s lies and hypocrisy, but rest assured, there will be plenty who forget that his campaign rhetoric now is the same as it was two years ago, and are too stupid to look at the GOP’s job-killing record. However, for every stupid American, there are more who remember that the GOP used the Christian religion to distract attention from their inability and unwillingness to create jobs, and they will see John Boehner and Republicans for what they really are; liars and hypocrites.

REPUBLICAN JOB CREATION
=======================
4-9-2012: The House has scheduled a series hearings this week. No jobs will be created.
4-16-2012: The House is back in session but it’s mostly just nuts-and-bolts stuff this week. Although a vote on another corporate tax cut bill (H.R. 9) is in the offing.
4-18-2012: The House voted down the Buffet Rule, awarded Lena Horne a posthumous Congressional Gold Medal, then argued the rest of the day about rules to “enhance” hunting, fishing, and shooting. No jobs were created.
4-20-2012: The House passed “The Small Business Tax Cut Act” (H.R. 9) but they might as well have named the bill “Ponies For Everyone” because it wasn’t about small business, and it will never pass the Senate. No jobs were created today.
4-23-2012: The House was in pro forma session. No jobs were created.
4-25-2012: The House spent the day dealing with the legislative version of cleaning their room. In this case it meant passing bills that dealt with adjustments to the boundaries of parklands, land swaps, and the like. No jobs, or anything remotely like them, were created.
4-27-2012: The House pased a couple of suspension bills (The DATA Act and the Small Business Credit Availability Act). They also passed CISPA, which is distressing, but the prez has promised a veto. Looking forward to that. Oh, and no jobs were created.
4-30-2012: On Friday the House approved a bill that lowers the interest on student loans, but tacked on a rider which guts the Health Care Act. It’s designed to result in a presidential veto, at which point Republicans can claim that Mr. Obama doesn’t care about student loans.

CICERO, N.Y. — Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle (R-N.Y.) is exasperated as she concludes her opening remarks and reaches for a piece of paper on the podium.
“I don’t know who was handing out this literature,” she says, “but I think we’ve got to talk about this a little bit.”
The issue in question is the budget proposal issued by House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), and what it does to Medicare in particular. More than a year after the proposal’s initial release, Republican candidates continue to find themselves on the defensive about what the plan will actually do, and Democrats continue to make claims about the dire consequences if it were to become law.
In its drive to tame entitlement spending and reduce the federal debt, the Ryan plan has been embraced by the GOP establishment as an article of faith, and it is likely to be a key issue in this fall’s congressional elections.
Buerkle was meeting with voters in this central New York town while, outside, liberal activists were distributing flyers that accused her of voting to cut funding to Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, “to give more tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires.”
That’s not true, Buerkle told the standing room-only crowd.

Good plan… Now execute it!
I just finish listening to the speech the First Lady gave yesterday at North Carolina A&T graduation again, and let me tell you if you haven’t listen to her you need too. Let me repeat myself, you need too. She was awesome, but what else would I expect from our First Lady.
I’m sure FLOTUS was a 1000 time better than that bunch of crap Mitt Romney gave at Liberty.

I welcome President Karzai’s announcement today of the third tranche of areas to transition to Afghan security lead, which is an important step forward in our effort to achieve our objectives in Afghanistan. As transition proceeds in these areas, nearly 75 percent of the population of Afghanistan will be living in provinces, districts and villages where Afghan forces are leading. The Afghan National Security Forces are strengthening their capacity as we remain on track to meet our goal of having the Afghan government fully responsible for security across the country by the end of 2014. A week from now, world leaders will gather at the NATO Summit in Chicago to discuss how we can effectively advance the transition process as our forces move from combat to a support role, and demonstrate our enduring support for the Afghan Government and Afghan National Security Forces. I look forward to meeting with President Karzai and my fellow leaders in Chicago to discuss these critical steps that will strengthen Afghan sovereignty while responsibly winding down the war.

But Chuck Todd, Chuck Todd…
I just saw him in his kitchen fussing and cussing at the TV…
Chuck Todd is in the kitchen sulking and cussing…
chuck toad can go & croak for all I care.
LOL!
Seriously! I hate that fucker!
Screw Lifetime!! They gave Sistuh Sarah Jr a reality tv show!! Can you believe this mess?!
Sistuh Sarah Jr’s reality tv show will end up with the same fate as Sistuh Sarah Sr.’s reality show - i.e., CANCELLED after Season 1.
Bet it won’t last the whole season:) How do these do nothings get a tv show? What a waste. They are takers.
I know. Some of these corporate cable dollars could be better funneled into getting actual people real JOBS.
Amen to that, hf.
AMEN!
Are you saying that Lifetime gave Bristol Palin a reality show? Well if you are, then I don’t watch Lifetime.. What is wrong with Bristol setting a good example for young people, like going to college, graduating. Did Bristol even graduate high school?
I don’t know, but what I DO know, is that she is a walking hypocrite
She thinks the best way to spend her time is to tell PBO how to be a good father according to her criteria and wasting time on tv with her friends. SMDH
Thank you and the same to you zizi :)
Good night all. And I hope every Mother had a wonderful day.
G’nite annie. Sleep tight. Don’t let David Gregory bite.

http://www.slate.com/articles/business/moneybox/2012/05/debt_ceiling_fiasco_house_republicans_just_reneged_on_the_debt_ceiling_deal_making_a_default_in_2013_almost_inevitable_.html
Something terrible happened in Congress yesterday—and nobody seemed to notice. House Republicans voted to take money away from programs meant to help poor people and give it to the military instead. That’s not my idea of wise policy, but that’s what was terrible about it. The problem is that the vote constitutes a collective Republican welching on the agreement that was reached last spring to raise the statutory debt ceiling and avoid national default. Yesterday’s vote doesn’t undo the deal or cause any immediate problems, but by so speedily backing out of their agreement, the Republicans have done something much worse—made it impossible for anyone to negotiate with them in the future, because it’s clear they cannot be trusted to keep the promises they made.
If President Obama wins re-election, the debt-ceiling issue will have to be confronted again, but now in a Congress that has been poisoned by the Republicans’ welching on the last agreement. The country, in other words, is set for an even more severe version of the crisis that crushed financial markets last summer.
Thanks df, I saw this tweeted, was going 2 retweet then read it and in my opinion, it’s deceptive in saying one thing and then another to justify why PBO should not be re-elected….in his last line, he writes…”we can just hope that Romney wins in November and spares us the trouble”.
I saw that myself AFTER I read this first paragraph and posted. Dave Weigel is a little “off” and I have NO IDEA how the hell he thinks that voting for Stupid Ass would be a better idea. The fact is, that the republicans lied. Just like they always do…they made a promise that they had no intention of keeping to the American public. I really don’t give 2 shits about what Weigel thinks…but I DO know that Republicans can not be trusted with the reins of government.
Total Agreement there. Love all the info you provide :)
Thank you, love:) I love to scout the intertubes and try to find interesting things…I figure if I find it interesting, someone here will, too:)
Pathetic isn’t it ? He sez that it would be wrong to say so and yet says it. Is this going to be the pundtwits’ argument going forward ? That thugs are holding the guns to the collective heads of americans and the only way to appease them and make them cooperate is to elect mehmney ?
Pathetic, pathetic, pathetic
Dave Weigel is a self-professed Libertarian who has mostly voted Repub in the past. Everything he says I take with the appropriate amount of salt.
me too…he actually makes me throw up a little in my mouth when I see him on TV…however, he was totally right about the republicans lies on the debt ceiling. They can never be trusted. Their allegiance is not to those that elected them, but the big money and corporations that feed their greed.
And yet this punk doesn’t call for throwing out these traitorous bastids out. His solution? let’s elect that tax dodger to appease the blackmailing thugs. Unbelievable.
It’s that idjit Yyglesias. Unbelievable how these traitors try to justify the traitorous ways of the thugs and root for mittbot.
Agreed. On both counts.
I hate you, WordPress, not that this comment will make it onto TOD, either. Unless it does, and then I apologize.
:) :) The comment did in fact make it on to TOD!
Don’t apologise to WP…they screw up things way too often :) You made it!!
remember when the RW laughed when Janet Napolitano said that the real threat to America wasn’t foreign terrorists, but the domestic, white supremacy groups? They were wrong. Again.

Nancy Pelosi will have a great ally here. I really appreciate the real reporting, backed by facts and not opinion, that this site provides….it has been a “go to” site for me since 2008. These lessons show why.

Yup. TP is a real left site without the hyperbole and hate of the dkos. Anyway, most of dkos FP posts are just a rehash of the TP’s well researched and well stated pieces.
yglesias left TP and went to who knows where….but I really like TP for the facts w/o the spin….and they cite their work, which I appreciate…DK is too touch and go..I hardly ever go there….though I must say that mother mags has AZ down to a tee!
I think he went to Slate.
What we could say about Romney and Republicans:
The worst thing about being lied to is knowing you weren’t worth the truth.

I already saw Lieberman today, pushing back against leaving Afghanistan.
Lieberman is a disgrace. He wasn’t always this way…hanging with McCain and Lindsey will do that, I guess.
mean people shouldn’t have these nice things…or maybe mean people need to visit beauty to appreciate nice things. This is in AZ….
Wise words. Gandhi.
Genius! Thanks df!

Steve Ratner sticking up for the Banks.
And why?
Because, he probably has massive stocks in JP Morgan!
Greedy bastard!
Rattner also sticks up for the auto-companies and when he does so I appreciate it
Because he was in charge of the auto bailout, otherwise he is a wealthy wall street Boy!
Oil is at 94, way down!
Ally just filed for bankruptcy! Oh Biy! What was that you were saying, Mr Ratner?
Ratner also routinely defends against the haters on that show so I will cut him some slack
He also says Robney is a good Business Man and CEO!
Good morning!

President Obama has wound down America’s war in Iraq, ordered the operation that killed Osama bin Laden and set in motion the end of U.S. combat operations in Afghanistan. He also has focused particular attention on veterans and military families, increasing funds for the Department of Veterans Affairs, implementing the post-Sept. 11 G.I. Bill and launching job programs for returning troops.
As he gears up his reelection effort, Obama is trying to use that record, and especially his emphasis on the home front, to win the political support of veterans and military families in a handful of important swing states.
It is a bold attempt to cut into a traditionally Republican constituency, one the GOP won’t concede without a fight — particularly to a Democrat who opposed the Iraq war, is not a veteran and is described by many Republicans as a weak leader who travels the world apologizing for America.
