Thanks, Me4O (long time no see; Hi!), this reminded me of a thought I had yesterday and mulled on overnight. I’d like TODville to help me brainstorm a list of Dems who regularly do the right thing so that we can take a little time to pat them on the back. IMO we expend so much passion and energy on the ones that mess up that they end with a whole lot of attention and the others get overlooked.

These are the names I came up with though I know they have got to be many others. I’m calling them #BigPictureDems because they see the big picture ow what the Admin needs to do to win and they publicly avoid being an obstacle in the way.

      My overnight list =

      #BigPictureDems

      Gov. Deval Patrick - Mass
      Gov. …… O’Malley - MD
      —- Krystal Ball - ?
      PS Jay Carney - WH

Then I got stuck. Would you please add as you think of them? I’m going to put them on a list, then do a little research prior to giving them a word of praise WITH YOUR HELP on ‘the Twitter’. No reason why heading towards Nov. the ‘bad guys’ should get all the attention. VC

Yeah, when I read those posts, I knew I would have to see the interview for myself. Deval Patrick has always been on message any time I’ve seen him, and he is one of PBO’s fiercest supporters. Thanks for the confirm, Me4obama.

Gee, I wish there was more Dems Abroad could do, although I donate and do make calls closer to the election. President Obama’s gr-grandfather’s [hope that is correct] house in Moneygall was opened today as a tourist center and will be open for at least the next 12 months. Euro is crashing today, but for those of us getting paid in US$, that news is not all that bad. Oil is falling fast as well. and gold.

I was visiting my brother and sister-in-law yesterday, my niece was going away on an overnight trip for the first time. Anyway, they are buying a used iPhone 4 and I turned it on ( I know my brother was using it last) and the EIB Rush Limpballs website came up and when I tried to get out of there, Drudge’s website. I know my sister-in-law is an Obama supporter (quietly) but my brother and I always get into arguments when he spouts the RWTP’s. Now it is confirmed, my brother is a “teabagger”. He has nothing good to say about PBO and Democrats. He changed his voting from DEM to Independent but he is really a Republican but ashamed to wear it like a badge of honor. This man who is a “Christian” believes the RW crap.

Hi anniebella, no disrespect taken. He is a much better man than our father was…a good husband and father, but I don’t know why he can’t relate to PBO. They have similar backgrounds, we were abandoned by our dad, raised by grandparents, worked hard, government loans for college, worked, but he just doesn’t get what the repugs are all about. His daughter’s school has lost good teachers, cut back on music, etc., but he wants to vote for people who will get rid of public education.

LIES, AND THE LYING LIARS WHO TELL THEM (Cory Booker gets breathless coverage, Roves lies get a shrug.)

The new, strikingly dishonest ad from Crossroads GPS

    By Jamelle Bouie

    ————————-

Of course, I don’t expect a Republican super PAC to do anything different; they’re in it to win it. But I am surprised the Times would run such a positive piece on the ad and its creators, and forgo any attempt to evaluate the claims made by Crossroads GPS. Unfortunately, when it comes to coverage of Mitt Romney’s campaign for the White House, this is par for th course. The Republican nominee is running on a series of unsubstantiated or easily debunked claims: that he is responsible for 100,000 new jobs at Bain, that there has been net job loss under Obama’s policies, that the stimulus failed, that his policies would reduce the debt (the opposite is true), and that the Affordable Care Act was a “government takeover” of health care.

It’s not hard to find an independent evaluation of each claim, and yet, it’s rare that news outlets challenge the Romney campaign — or Republicans in general — on any it. The GOP is running the most mendacious presidential campaign in recent memory, and the collective response has been a shrug.

Before the campaign for the election in 2008 began, when I tried to get any real news, all I could find was stories on Britney Spears (and I did not even really know who she was) … then the campaign and Palin, Palin, Palin and that is all we have heard for the last four years. Exactly - isn’t that the very point that President Obama and VP Biden were making? A community organizer actually has relevant job experience when it comes to running the country as President. If Romney doesn’t have any community organizing in his background, plus he doesn’t want to talk about his type as governor - then he’s basically disqualified to be President. Let them keep talking about community organizing - it will surely come back to haunt them.

Saw Politico article cited on TOD yesterday that quoted actor Bruce Willis saying some pretty unflattering things about Mitt (he called him a “disappointment” among other things). Since Willis is a staunch republican who voted for both Bushes, it would seem this would get more press than it has, considering how whenever Matt Damon spews some anti-PBO nonsense it gets hyped by the MSM. I guess Damon’s publicist knows his/her job, you only get attention when you feed the anti-PBO narrative. Pathetic.

WASHINGTON — Shifting from the economy to education, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney was proposing a voucher-style system that could significantly alter the public school system and revive the debate over school choice.

Romney, who has been reluctant to stray far from the economic issues at the core of the presidential campaign, was outlining the proposal during a speech Wednesday at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

A Romney aide who previewed the speech for reporters said the candidate would let low-income and disabled students use federal funding to attend public schools, public charter schools and, in some cases, private schools. Federal funds could also be applied to tutors or digital courses.

The plan is line with GOP reforms aimed at giving students more educational choices. But it’s unclear how schools in areas that depend on the federal funding would fare.

The proposal was not expected to include any new federal money for education.

Romney has so far offered few details for his plans on several key policy areas, including foreign policy, health care and education. He attacked Obama’s education policy while speaking to donors in New York City on Tuesday evening, previewing themes likely to play prominently in Wednesday’s speech.

“This president receives the lion’s share of funding from organized labor, and the teachers’ unions represent a massive source of funding for the Democratic Party,” Romney said. “The challenge with that is when it comes to actual reform to make schools better for our kids, they talk a good game, but they don’t do it.”

He continued, “If I’m president of the United States, instead of just giving lip service to improving our schools, I will actually put the kids first and the union behind in giving our kids better teachers, better options and better choices for a better future.”

The message is consistent for the Romney campaign, which regularly heaps criticism on the Democratic president’s policies but offers only a vague road map for what Romney would do.

      May 23, 2025 at 1:18 pm

So now instead of talking about the economy (which wasn’t going so well for him) he wants to switch to education. Yes! No problem. Vouchers are horrendous and the average American can see that. If you take millions away from public education so you can give a few lucky Americans a 5k voucher for a 10k, 12k, 15k + private school how will they come up with the rest when they have a mortgage, groceries, gas, clothing, etc. also to pay? Romney is so damn backwards it’s unfathomable. His ideas are archaic and has led to the decline of education and America in general. Why would we go back to them 10 times over. Rmoney clueless again.

Hiddeeee Hoooooo OOOOO’s !!!!!!! Another great gettin’ up day, yesirrrreee!!! Ok, I heard what Deval Patrick said, I heard what Powell said and in neither case did I hear what some have posted here. Powell, did not indicate he would endorse Mo’Money, and Deval didn’t go rogue on teh Bain message. He said that Bain isn’t a bad company, and it’s not. It serves its purpose as an equity firm. PBO said as much also. The pushback is that Mitt can’t continue to use it as a qualification and not expect to be questioned about it. PBO also said as did Deval, that it doesn’t create jobs. Soooo, please, when there are posts that disparage a Dem, or an otherwise supporter, make sure it includes the entire story, or post the link.

I did post the link. But what democrats are not getting, the lazy biased media, are using Democrats to attack the President on Bain.
This is pushed by Robney, it is their strategy.
In a lot of cases, they are quoted as saying to leave Bain alone.
Deval Patrick should not allow a soundbite to be played in an ad.
Just say, Bain does not create jobs, he could leave out the- Bain is a good Company stuff!
We are trying to define Robney and disqualify his Bisiness record.

The media may be lazy, but we don’t have to throw the baby out with the bath water by omitting or over embellishing on what is said in our posts. Things are going to get heated up enough without playing to emotional rather than practical reaction to what is said. Deval, and no other guest has control of soundbites that get played in an ad. He can’t control how his words are edited or parsed, but we can control what we post about what was said. WE aren’t on the TV. WE are on a blog site. WE can help get out the vote. We can follow PBO’s lead by speaking to our neighbors and friends about his successful policies and plans for our future. WE don’t have to wring our hands, gnash our teeth, or act like the sky is falling because of what somebody said on the television. Understand?

Their support of him is self serving.
That is, a lot of House Democrats only support the President because of coat tails.

luv ya Jovie and I’m not going to pick any bones with you. Been there, done that. I’ll just stand by my original post, that all things are not going to hell in a hand basket every time somebody opens their mouth on tv. I personally, don’t get all flabbergasted when a pundit poots. There is nothing wrong with accepting donations from Bain or any other company. In most cases it’s the employees of the company who are giving their own personal money to a campaign. Because those contributors have to identify who they work for, it is reported as money from the company itself. That’s ok with me, as long as the politician doesn’t govern or legislate based on those donations. If they stand up to the corporation or business when they are out of order, as PBO continues to do, then any donations are fair game. I don’t have a choir, but if I did, I’d have them serenade you with one of my favorite songs, Don’t Worry, Be Happy. It works.

Yes, you did leave a link in the Deval Patrick post. When I read your responses to what he was to have said:

“And now Deval Patrick has a Problem with the Bain attacks I am sick and tired of these toothless Democrats.
        Disappointed about Patrick!”

“Governor Patrick is a co chair of the Obama camp talking shit-”

“This is definitely giving Team Obama pause, all these Democrats are sticking up for Bain!
        Jeesh!”

“Democratic Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick appeared on CNN and defended the Boston-based company Mitt Romney led, saying it wasn’t “a bad company.” Patrick added “I respect what Bain does and its role in the free market system,” he said. Ugh!”

Based on your posts, I thought that we had another Corey Booker to deal with today. Then I clicked on your link and I had to wonder if you actually listened to it before you posted, because nowhere does he say any of the things in the context that you would lead us to believe.

        Here’s your link: http://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/deval-patrick-defends-bain-capital-not-a-bad-com?s=mobile

PS: I wasn’t necessarily speaking about you in my original post. I’ve seen similar reactions from others. I get all riled up, only to find that the whole story wasn’t given, or something. i.e. Powell will endorse Romney, etc.

CHICAGO — Patrick Fitzgerald is stepping down as the U.S. attorney in Chicago.

Fitzgerald has overseen thousands of criminal prosecutions and was the architect of cases against Illinois governors Rod Blagojevich and George Ryan, former Vice President Dick Cheney’s top aide I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby and media mogul Conrad Black.

Fitzgerald has held the post for the Northern District of Illinois for more than a decade. His office announced Wednesday that he’s stepping down effective June 30.

Fitzgerald doesn’t give a reason for leaving in the news release announcing his departure. He says he has no future employment plans and he’ll take time off this summer before making any career decisions.

Fitzgerald is leaving the Justice Department after nearly 24 years, including his time as an assistant U.S. Attorney in New York.

Patrick Fitzgerald is a Republican hack who has basked in the notion that he is non-partisan. My ass.

Yeah, he got Ryan. But let’s be clear: any first year law student could have gotten Ryan. And probably a whole lot sooner than Fitzgerald did.

Blago was a witch hunt in search of a crime. When Patrick Fitzgerald got up there at the press conference and shrieked that this was the Crime of the Century……

But most important — he didn’t “get” Scooter Libby. He let lying Karl Rove come in time and again and change his perjured testimony in order to fit the facts. The Bush Administration got away with literal murder with what they did to Valerie Plame and her covert organization. We will never know the extent of the damage done by craven political hacks in the Bush Administration in order to pursue their lying policies. They all should have gone to jail for treason.

The reason they didn’t - Patrick Fitzgerald. Blago was the Crime of the Century (when not one thin dime passed hands) but it was a big shrug when it was the Bushies. Disgraceful.

THE CONSTITUTION AND THE WALL BETWEEN CHURCH AND STATE

Romney to Speak at Ralph Reed’s 2012 FFC Conference & Strategy Briefing

    —————-

The 2012 Faith and Freedom Conference and Strategy Briefing will be held at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C. on June 14-16. A whole heavenly host of right wing authoritarian figures will be present, including not just Mitt Romney but GOP presidential also-rans Rick Santorum, Michele Bachmann and Newt Gingrich, along with luminous loudmouths like Glenn Beck, Herman Cain and The Donald. We don’t know yet exactly what will be discussed since the agenda is only tentative even a month out, but it takes little effort to guess given the guest list and the host. Yes, Reed is a liar but he’s a slick liar: Evangelical vote? What Evangelical vote?
    .
The Constitution says no to the establishment of state religion but that is exactly what fundamentalists like Reed are working toward. The Constitution says there shall be no religious test to hold office, but that is exactly what fundamentalists like Reed wish to impose.
    .
There is no doubt that they are buying Mitt Romney’s soul and Mitt knows exactly who he is selling his soul to in order to land his dream job. Oh, I’m sorry: you want to know what your role is in all this? Think pig with apple in its mouth.

Hasn’t President Obama already matched that? Unemployment peaked under him at about 10.3 and it has since dropped the same as what Romney is predicting for himself. Yet it will be a smaller feat for him because unemployment will drop further before he could take over (horror of horrors!).

That’s not earth shattering. PBO has reduced unemployment by over 2% points nationally and more in some states where the auto bailout has helped such as Ohio where it is 7.6%. So Romney will do the same get it from 8.1% now to 6 % in four years, so daaaa.

Speaking before conservative group The Latino Coaltion in DC, Mitt Romney chided President Obama for using his record at Bain Capital in campaign attacks, noting that a number of Democrats in recent days have expressed discomfort with the tactic.

“Sadly, President Obama has decided to attack success,” Romney said. “It’s no wonder so many of his own supporters are calling on him to stop this war on job creators. Make no mistake, when I’m president you wont wake up every day and wonder if the president is on your side.”

I asked the owner if he would turn the channel from FOX, which he did (but he was cool to me the rest of the time there - his wife is a sweetie, however). He turned to NBC - I was there a couple of hours and saw at least four-five Walker ads every half-offer. One Barrett ad during that time. I hadn’t seen many ads because I rarely watch network tv. They’re good — meaning effective — although full of lies. The one that was on the most declared it was telling facts, not opinions. FACTS. Repeated facts throughout — when it was full of lies.

Diaz-Balart, who is Cuban, has two brothers who have been right wing Republican Congressmen from South Florida. One has retired and the other is still serving. He never mentions that fact.

I’m unsure how laying off 1,000′s of Federal workers helps unemployment.

Oh, wait. I forgot that if you run a filthy meat packing plant and don’t worry about whether the toaster starts a fire, you can hire all kinds of people.

I loathe Republicans. I particularly loathe Romney.

In a speech today to The Latino Coalition, a pro-business group led by President George W. Bush’s Small Business Administrator, Mitt Romney said the nation’s public education is in “crisis.” But while he publicly claimed that improving education for minority children is the “civil-rights issue of our era,” his recent closed-door remarks to donors suggest that his real plan for education is massive cuts.

First lady Michelle Obama will launch her latest media blitz next week with a string of TV appearances to promote her book on gardens.

Obama is set to appear Tuesday on ABC’s “Good Morning America” and “The View,” and Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” the White House said Wednesday. She’ll also tape an interview for “LIVE! with Kelly” while in New York next Wednesday and an appearance on the “Rachael Ray Show” is set to air next Thursday.

Obama’s book, “American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America,” is being released Tuesday after several production delays that pushed its publication date back from earlier this year. The book includes a history of White House vegetable gardens reaching back to Eleanor Roosevelt’s Victory Garden and also takes a look at gardens across the country.

The media appearances that Obama is doing to promote the book — for which she did not take an advance and from which the proceeds will go to the National Parks Foundation — are just the latest in a sustained effort to boost her public image. In recent months, she’s appeared on “The Biggest Loser,” “Ellen,” “iCarly,” and several daytime and late night talk shows to promote her policy initiatives, Let’s Move! and Joining Forces.

    Can’t wait!

NEW YORK — A new Bob Woodward book is scheduled for September, upholding an election-year tradition.

An “Untitled” Woodward book is listed on Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.com, with no details provided.

Spokeswoman Tracey Guest of Simon & Schuster, Woodward’s longtime publisher, said Wednesday the book would be out Sept. 12. She said she “had no other information to share.”

Sounds fishy…..an Untitled book with no details…yet they released the date the book will be out.

I cannot stand Woodward and his hit job books.

Since Colin Powell just came out in support of marriage equality and said Robney’s foreign policy advisors are far to the right, I think it’s safe to say that the GOP will not be looking for Powell’s endorsement any time soon.

I saw some young ladies holding up signs for Tony Strickland here in Southern California - one sign said “Honk for lower taxes”, another sign said “Honk for more education”. Do they realize that these are two opposing positions? That the hunt for lower taxes is the very thing that is impacting education? I just shook my head. They were so young, too - sad for them to go through life so uninformed.

    Today from Colin Powell:

“I have no problem with gay marriage”.

    “The economy is improving”.

“Romney should think twice about the advisers he is choosing”.

“President Obama has not been apologizing for America in any shape or form.”

“Our nationally security is as strong as ever.”

“Everything should be on the table including military cuts/reforms, tax reforms, social program reforms.”

“Russia is not a national security/foreign relations threat.”

    “We cannot go backward.”

Another fantasy of mine: a group of sane republicans all supporting PBO’s policies/positions/presidency in a big mash-up of a commercial that runs on Fox News endlessly — especially in the battleground and red states. Throw some Reagan quotes in there for good measure…. …. a girl can dream…

Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Wednesday urged Republicans to stage an immediate vote on extending the Bush-era tax rates for the middle class and making those rates permanent.

In a letter to Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), the House Democratic leader said the issue should be resolved “as early as next week” both to lend confidence to consumers and to ensure the issue isn’t lost amid the chaos that’s expected to mark this year’s lame-duck session.

White House press secretary Jay Carney ripped GOP criticism about spending under the Obama administration, calling it “BS.”

Carney also said reporting on the GOP criticism without exploring the counter-argument is “a sign of sloth and laziness” during an exchange Wednesday with reporters on Air Force One.
