POLAND - President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign tour bus will swing through the Valley this week, and he will make a tour stop Friday, speaking at a local school here, his camp announced Tuesday.

The stop at Dobbins Elementary School is part of the president’s two-day, ”Betting on America” bus tour, which starts Thursday in Maumee, in northwest Ohio, and crosses northern Ohio with a series of grassroots campaign stops and an ice cream social in Sandusky.

Poland’s visit will be the fourth and final stop in the state before the president heads to Pennsylvania to speak at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

Ticket information for the visit in Poland will be released later.

According to Obama camp officials, the president will talk about the work he has done to improve the economy, ”doubling down” on American workers by rescuing the automobile industry and investments in manufacturing.

So according to this guy who works for TeaNN think that showing vacation pictures of Mitt Romney relaxing with his family, enable people to imagine him as president. That is so dam stupid. Hay Americans forget all about Mitt Romney policies and what he stands for, just look at the families pictures and that will ease your mind about him being president. Let me send Kurtz a email.

I’m bringing this op-ed that jovie posted from the previous thread over. This is a good one to be shared.

    Editor, the Gazette:

President Obama is focused on getting more Americans back to work, putting more money into the pockets of those who are working and creating an economy that’s built to last. That’s why the president’s jobs plan would put first responders on the streets and teachers in the classrooms.

Republican Mitt Romney recently made out-of-touch comments that we don’t need more teachers, firefighters and police officers. It’s a good reminder that he has a track record of cutting important public-sector jobs.

That was a short and sweet naturalization ceremony. Tell me, do you always have to renounce any other citizenship or does that apply solely to active duty members?

    • 45 0388jojothecat
      July 4, 2025 at 11:20 am

I am not certain. I had a friend who became a citizen about ten years ago and he said he had to give up his citizenship from his birth country….then I hear of other people who have duo citizenship so I don’t know if the rules changed.

      • 46 Betsy
        July 4, 2025 at 11:36 am

In my ceremony in 2009, I had to pledge an oath to the United States, but did not have to surrender my Canadian passport. So my allegiance is to the United States, but I have dual citizenship as I have 2 passports. If, however, I leave the US on my Canadian passport, and return to the US using my US passport, I will lose my US citizenship. You have to use the same passport in and out of the US. We always use our US passports, saves confusion.

        • 47 vcprezofan2
          July 4, 2025 at 12:11 pm

Good to know, Betsy. Do you also enter Canada on your US passport? I’m doing research ;) . It suddenly occurred to me yesterday as I was talking to Theo, that while visiting in Texas I could have my father request US citizenship for me. With my Chips-like charm, I could then encourage the powers that be to expedite the process so that I could vote in November. ;) ;) ;) Hearing the pledge today I got the idea that I’d have to give up my Canadian citizenship - no can do. Don’t like American media, or the American illiterati.

          July 4, 2025 at 12:33 pm

My friend became a naturalized citizen in early 1996 so that he could vote for President Clinton. He had to surrender his birth countrys’ passport also. But they must have changed the rules because I hear of so many who have since become natuarlized citizens that have been able to keep their birth countrys’ passports. I don’t understand why you would want to have both….maybe someone can explan. He made copies of his old passport but I forgot what he told me…there was a reason just in case something happened here he could go back to being a ciziten or get benefits from his birth country.

      • 49 vcprezofan2
        July 4, 2025 at 11:39 am

That’s exactly why I asked. I thought Americans were allowed dual citizenship until I listened to the pledge of allegiance, which also seemed to me to be heavy on the idea of defending the country. Of course repubs being so fussy about exceptionalism, I’m not really surprised that newcomers might be asked to renounce all others. In fact, makes me wonder if that’s one reason friends/extended family of mine living in the States for years do not pursue citizenship.

    • 50 nospin
      July 5, 2025 at 9:34 am

Yes you do. You do have to renounce any other citizenship. I attended a few naturalization ceremonies this year you do have to renounce it. Dual citizenship was not an option.

Truth is, tho I’m [addictively -???] interested in U.S. politics during PBO’s term I’ve never had a desire to live there. (CNN) — Former presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal will go to Ohio and Pennsylvania later this week at the same time President Barack Obama travels through both states on a bus tour, a campaign official for Mitt Romney said Tuesday.

As part of a bracketing strategy, the official said both surrogates will be on Romney’s campaign bus, making stops Thursday and Friday in “several of the same areas” as Obama “to make sure the Romney message gets out.”

    – Follow the Ticker on Twitter: @PoliticalTicker

    – Check out the CNN Electoral Map and Calculator and game out your own strategy for November.

The two are considered to be potential running mates for the presumptive GOP presidential nominee. Pawlenty has made several campaign appearances for Romney, while Jindal has expressed his support in interviews and conference calls with reporters.

Obama’s campaign and Democratic groups took a similar strategy when Romney had his own bus tour through several rust-belt states last month.

    WTF???

Mystery Bermuda-based company and other undisclosed Romney assets hint at larger wealth

WASHINGTON — For nearly 15 years, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s financial portfolio has included an offshore company that remained invisible to voters as his political star rose.

Based in Bermuda, Sankaty High Yield Asset Investors Ltd. was not listed on any of Romney’s state or federal financial reports. The company is among several Romney holdings that have not been fully disclosed, including one that recently posted a $1.9 million earning — suggesting he could be wealthier than the nearly $250 million estimated by his campaign.

I read that earlier, no kidding it’s a big deal, it’s huge!

      As far as his investments

Can he use the excuse he had during the primary? blind trust, that he had no control over his investments.

Well of course he made a comment in 94 that it was a big ruse…

      Also things like this

”In an astonishing coincidence, Ann Romney’s blind trust managed to invest $10 million in Tagg Romney’s hedge fund: ”

we know it’s a big fat lie but I don’t see any other reason he can give…….

It is sickeningly hot here in “Ill-i-noise” for what seems like the 100th straight day of record temps and no rain. I just watered my parched flower lovelies in record time, before I collapsed and caused an undue commotion on the 4th for the neighborhood. Dumb Golf Nut Mr. Dotster stupidly set out for the golf course in some sort of self-punishing endurance test. As a good wifey unit (amk), I kindly reminded him to drink lots of water in order to give him the best chance for survival. He assured that he always has water in the cart. I then told him, as teacher to student, that the trick is to not just have it with him but to drink it! which he often forgets to do. Hope he makes it. Otherwise—-it would really wreck my 4th.

In a stop in his hometown of Scranton, Pa., Vice President Biden stopped by a Little League baseball field from his own childhood.

“I’m so old I played the first game ever played on this field,” Biden told the Green Ridge All-Star team.

Biden said he spent that game on the bench, but was part of the team. He told the team that he was a little league shortstop but switched to centerfield in high school.

The team gave Biden a baseball signed by the players — and Biden promised to put it in his office in Washington.

“When you guys come down to visit, I’ll show it to you,” Biden said.

“It means a lot to them to see the vice president at their home ballfield, the same field that he played on as a child,” the team’s assistant coach said. “This is a moment they will remember for the rest of their lives.”

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/07/04/1105862/-Robert-Reich-Mitt-Romney-IS-the-Economic-Crisis

The biggest players in this system have, like Romney, made their profits placing big bets with other people’s money. If the bets go well, the players make out like bandits. If they go badly, the burden lands on average workers and taxpayers.
    * * *

The fortunes raked in by financial dealmakers depend on special goodies baked into the tax code such as “carried interest,” which allows Romney and other partners in private-equity firms (as well as in many venture-capital and hedge funds) to treat their incomes as capital gains taxed at a maximum of
15 percent. This is how Romney managed to pay an average of 14 percent on more than $42 million of combined income in 2010 and 2011. But the carried-interest loophole makes no economic sense. Conservatives try to justify the tax code’s generous preference for capital gains as a reward to risk-takers—but Romney and other private-equity partners risk little, if any, of their personal wealth. They mostly bet with other investors’ money, including the pension savings of average working people
