Ok, what is up. When I click on the videos up above, ads supporting Robme come up on the screen. What is going on. Get that off of my computer!!! Help!!!!!
What?!?!
It comes up over the video. Other ads come up at times. I guess the ads are sponsoring the site? Not sure.
It must be a YouTube ad thing Cindy, they sometimes appear at the bottom of their videos when I watch them, not sure how it works. I paid to block all ads on the blog so you shouldn’t see any here.
You rock. I get so stressed and upset watching the world. I go out canvasing (very repug area I live in.) and just when I seriously can’t stand it anymore-I come to your site. You save me. Thanks
Paul Ryan’s Fairy-Tale Budget Plan
By DAVID A. STOCKMAN
Published: August 13, 2025
———————————
Mr. Ryan showed his conservative mettle in 2008 when he folded like a lawn chair on the auto bailout and the Wall Street bailout. But the greater hypocrisy is his phony “plan” to solve the entitlements mess by deferring changes to social insurance by at least a decade.
The Ryan Plan boils down to a fetish for cutting the top marginal income-tax rate for “job creators” — i.e. the superwealthy — to 25 percent and paying for it with an as-yet-undisclosed plan to broaden the tax base. Of the $1 trillion in so-called tax expenditures that the plan would attack, the vast majority would come from slashing popular tax breaks for employer-provided health insurance, mortgage interest, 401(k) accounts, state and local taxes, charitable giving and the like, not to mention low rates on capital gains and dividends. The crony capitalists of K Street already own more than enough Republican votes to stop that train before it leaves the station.
In short, Mr. Ryan’s plan is devoid of credible math or hard policy choices. And it couldn’t pass even if Republicans were to take the presidency and both houses of Congress. Mr. Romney and Mr. Ryan have no plan to take on Wall Street, the Fed, the military-industrial complex, social insurance or the nation’s fiscal calamity and no plan to revive capitalist prosperity — just empty sermons.

Wow - the Military Industrial Complex - Mr. Stockman is sooo last millennium /snark.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ‘SS’
By Jared Bernstein
————————————-
She’s always worked for the government, but a lot of her friends in the private sector who provided the same kind help for retirees are no longer around. And yet, despite her continued effectiveness relative to her private counterparts, some people want to take her out of the public sector and turn her guarantee of help for all comers into a risky bet on the stock market.

Pelosi Statement on 77th Anniversary of Social Security
=============================================
“With the creation of Social Security 77 years ago, our nation made a commitment to the dignity and retirement security of America’s seniors. Social Security provides Americans with a guaranteed lifetime benefit that is protected against inflation, earned with a lifetime of hard work. And today, as we do every day, Democrats reaffirm our commitment to Social Security and the promise to strengthen it for future generations.
“On the other side of the aisle, Republicans continue in their relentless efforts to slash Social Security benefits and undermine our seniors’ economic security. Congressman Paul Ryan has proposed privatizing Social Security and wrote the Republican budget that ends Medicare as we know it and shifts costs to seniors.
“Democrats will always stand strong for Social Security, for Medicare, and for our nation’s seniors.”

That’s right..Social Security is a Leo! Love it!
thanks Chips, for covering POTUS’ trips
HIYA Chips!!
Some more this and that…
OK, ‘fess up. Which TODer was that?? She was too cute!!
“He’s really good looking in person and he smells really good too!”
‘fess up. I just KNOW she was TODer, but who?
I know, right! She spoke for all of us! “Smeils good” “AWESOME” “I could have fainted”! Yeah, PObama is courageous, intelligent, dompassionate, awesome sense of humor and he’s Adorable!
EDIT: “COMPASSIONATE”!
I would love to meet that woman, she was so funny. Oh I could have fainted, he smells real good.
The Robney Camp just denounced the Vice President, for what he said earlier, the “Chains” comment.
I actually thought it was funny.
I did too and it made me wonder if the GOP understands the difference between “literally” and “figuratively”.
loved Stephanie Cutter answer to Romney campaigns attempts at getting apology:
http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entries/romney-camp-bidens-wall-street-comments-new-low“
Stephanie Cutter has the PERFECT last name.
Stephanie Cutter is a dynamo. She does not take BS. Especially faux outrageous BS.
Rick Santorum invoked chains last summer to warned Iowa voters that health care reform would lull citizens into government dependency. “They will put you in chains called ‘Obamacare,’ and you will never break away,” Santorum said.
Florida Rep. Allen West went a step further, likening Obama’s programs to slavery. “He does not want you to have the self-esteem of getting up and earning and having that title of American,” West said in July. “He’d rather you be his slave.”
RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, refused to condemn West’s comments at the time, but he tweeted his disapproval of Biden’s remark Tuesday.
The campaign bolstered that with an emailed statement from Cutter soon after:
“For months, Speaker Boehner, Congressman Ryan, and other Republicans have called for the ‘unshackling’ of the private sector from regulations that protect Americans from risky financial deals and other reckless behavior that crashed our economy. Since then, the Vice President has often used a similar metaphor to describe the need to ‘unshackle’ the middle class.
Today’s comments were a derivative of those remarks, describing the devastating impact letting Wall Street write its own rules again would have on middle class families. We find the Romney campaign’s outrage over the Vice President’s comments today hypocritical, particularly in light of their own candidate’s stump speech questioning the President’s patriotism. Now, let’s return to that ‘substantive’ debate Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan promised 72 hours ago, but quickly abandoned.”
Are they going to denounce the leader of their party too?
Didn’t the GOP just accuse the President of having “blood on his hands”? The same party who caused the death of 5000 American troops, and ruined countless more lives? They really have a nerve. Whatever they say doesn’t deserve the dignity of a response.
Great response re: Andrea Saul’s denouncement re: VP Joe’s chains comment

I had to cut my daily listen of Rush by 50% today, because I couldn’t handle his ego! He said he’s not going to the Republican National Convention because he’s too famous. Blech. Change the station after a mere 10 seconds.
Rush has to be secretly rooting for PBO to win four more years, no matter what anti-PBO drivel he spouts on the air. PBO is Rush’s meal ticket - what else would he fill all those hours complaining about? Same with the entire Fox News network. Heck, they all probably donate to his campaign fund!
So you usually last 20 seconds? I think I’d change station after his first word.
Wow, the comments on Rush’s latest ego trip are pretty tough - poor guy:

OFA response to Robney Camp-
From the Obama campaign: “For months, Speaker Boehner, Congressman Ryan, and other Republicans have called for the ‘unshackling’ of the private sector from regulations that protect Americans from risky financial deals and other reckless behavior that crashed our economy. Since then, the Vice President has often used a similar metaphor to describe the need to ‘unshackle’ the middle class. LOL! Jiffy pop popcorn all around.
OK, I obviously missed this. What did Uncle Joe say that got Mittens’ panties all in a bunch?
Here you go LL:
VP Biden, speaking at a rally in Virginia on Tuesday, said: “[Romney] said in the first hundred days, he’s going to let the big banks write their own rules — unchain Wall Street. They’re going to put y’all back in chains.”
Truth hurts, dunnit? I love Joey Cakes.
:-) I flippin’ ADORE the man!
Great response!
These are not your father’s Dems. PBO and his people swing back.
I agree with the coffee shop sign: Coffee is ALWAYS more than just coffee. I say this as a coffee nazi.
LL, growing up, my older sister worked in a coffee shop that sold whole beans, would grind it to your liking, etc. (way before Starbucks…) So, I’ve been drinking good coffee since I was a teenager. A good cup of coffee is divine!
I’ve tried to get into tea, but it just doesn’t have that delicious flavor of coffee. I don’t have a cup in the morning and I’m a grouch.
I’m a serious coffee snob as well. Worked in a coffee shop in my late teens, and then again in my 20’s. And that was a long time ago……
A lot of people that meet him say he smells good!
:)
Please forgive, but I will not let this core issue drop ….
No forgiveness needed. IT’S the TRUTH!!!
Bob, no need to apologize when you are speaking the absolute TRUTH.
#RyanRomney …. a reminder …
Anyone hear Assley said Obama shut down the Bud Tent for five hours and cost the man something like $50,000? Is any of that even remotely true?!? He was tweeting up a storm last night and I noticed people were asking about it on the Bud’s FB page.
I think Grassley tweets when he is drunk…
Owner complains Obama’s beer tent stop cost him $25,000
http://blogs.desmoinesregister.com/dmr/index.php/2012/08/14/obamas-beer-tent-stop-may-have-cost-owner-25000/
The owner appears to be a miserable , nasty person… ( also known as a Republican ) “I wouldn’t have voted for (Obama) before,” Cunningham said. “I won’t again.”
He was willing to take his money though….wasn’t he ?
And have his photo taken with the President … ;)
get it right — he ASKED to have his pic taken w/PBO. View the video above!
That would mean that the President held up his business for 4 HOURS before his arrival?!! Dotster’s local news sharing indicated that the Pres only stopped there for an hour. Would be interesting to me to know how much said complainer made last year. My gut feeling is that he is trying to squeeze some money out of the president’s campaign. As a general rule, repubs and their hatred and unreasonableness repulse me! They really do.
first of all the newscaster said that POTUS was there less than 1 hour so how can her hold the tent for 5 hours…damn these people don’t even care to try to make sense.
What about showing some patriotism and pride in meeting the President? These people are just sour.
Happy birthday, Chips! Sorry I missed the party last night. 21! Wow! Great number to donate in your honor! Too bad you’re not older! ;))
To tangent just for a moment: I LOVE THIS SITE! Before joining the TODers, I had never made a political campaign contribution, blogged or tweeted. PBO was a game changer in my political connection..but TOD gave me a home. Thanks for luring me out of the shadows.
Welcome!!!

I’ve contributed to Pamela, DonnaDem, cookemom and meta (and on my own through OFA). But I’ll still do my best…especially since you asked me Bobfr, my only follower on Twitter. ;-)
what is your twitter address?
Awwww:
While greeting patrons outside the coffee shop, the President was asked about the White House homebrew by a man in the crowd, a campaign aide said. After the President described the beer, the fellow requested a bottle.
The President “sent out to Ground Force One and gave him one,” the aide said.
[SNIP]
Mr. Obama during the beery meet n’ greet also wrote a note for a woman who was late to work, but the guy who got the Presidential homebrew had the better prize.

I think she got the better deal. She has his signature, he has an empty bottle.
How Reporters Are Letting Romney Get Away With His Plans to Massively Cut Medicare
By Jonathan Cohn
—————————————
The proposals Romney has made so far would, with virtual certainty, require cuts to Medicare. These cuts would likely be larger, and possibly much larger, than the cuts in the Affordable Care Act—yes, the very same cuts that Romney keeps attacking Obama for enacting.
As far as I can tell, pundits and reporters are not holding the Romney campaign accountable for this. Nor are they demanding Romney explain how he’d possibly drain Medicare of so much money without causing harm to seniors. I’m not trying to beat up on the press here. Romney has been cagey about this part of his agenda, describing his Medicare plan only in broad brushstrokes and vowing, at every turn, to “save” Medicare for seniors. And the selection of Paul Ryan as a running mate has actually muddled things more, since Ryan’s latest budget proposal happens to have less severe cuts to Medicare.
But Romney’s designs for Medicare become crystal-clear if you look at his agenda as a whole. Yes, you also have to keep some numbers in your head. But I think I can keep it to just two. Let’s give it a shot, shall we?

Breaking new ground in Chutzpah Politics
BY Steve Benen
————————-
What’s remarkable is just how spectacularly dishonest Romney is. It’s like he heard about an award that goes to the lyingest liar who ever lied in the history of liars, and Romney’s so eager to win the award that he’s becoming a parody of himself.
Reality is actually quite simple. Republicans argue that Medicare savings are necessary for the health of the program, and Obama found such savings, without touching Medicare benefits, and while strengthening the financial health of the system. The savings are so sensible, they’re part of Paul Ryan’s Republican budget plan — which Romney has endorsed.
Think about that for a second. Romney’s truly pathetic attack ad goes after Obama for a policy that Republicans, including Romney’s own running mate, have adopted.

[I thought he spoke Spanish?]
Romney had an appearance at a Miami juice shop (owned by a convicted drug dealer) later in the day and the host told the GOP candidate, “They’re waiting for you with a mamey and a guayaba — Cuban fruits — here in Miami, do you like those?”
“I am a big fan of mango, papaya, and guava,” Romney said.
The hosts chuckled and added, “There are mangos there too.”
We’re not sure if the host and translator laughed with Romney in his moment of candor, at the fact that he added mango and papaya to the list, or that the latter is Cuban slang for “vagina.”
But either way, it was a lighthearted moment for the candidate. We enjoyed it. And we’ll also give Romney pass on the “papaya” thing; after all he doesn’t speak Spanish.

No, R-money mangles French.
Hell has officially frozen over, Fox news accurately fact-checks the Ryan budget:
Top News Story on Google News, here is the Headline from Fox:
Fact Check: Ryan budget plan doesn’t actually slash the budget
“Most damning part of this: Tax revenue *increases*, budget grows, deficit stays, AND the wealthy get huge tax cuts. Who is giving more to the government under the Ryan plan again? Oh right… the poor and middle class. ”
http://www.democraticunderground.com/10021130993
Karen Finney had on Two Republicans and one Democrat to talk ( lie ) about the Medicare cuts……As usual….she let them filibuster and lie…
She could not even articulate what the Obama cuts actually do. or where they come from. I am soooooooooooooooo sick of these pundits not knowing the details of ANYTHING.
We are more informed than they are.
I said yesterday that Finley was good as a guest, but host, she stinks. Have Martin left for good?
I don’t know what is up with Martin….
But I agree….she is a better guest….so was Chris Hayes and MHP…better as guests than hosts.
I shot off a very angry e-mail to the show….. If someone does not know the truth…she sure did nothing to clarify….
PBO stayed at a Holiday Inn near the airport while in Des Moines: http://www.kcci.com/news/central-iowa/Obama-spends-night-in-DM-on-Iowa-tour/-/9357080/16105338/-/rk0s8mz/-/index.html. I’d heard that he always stays at the same hotel that he’s liked since campaigning here in 2007, even though there are plenty of ritzy, expensive hotels around Des Moines.
He’s so normal.
Jack caffeety just said that the Republicans are more engaged at the Rallies. He said, 1 rally last week in NC, they had 15k.
While I find this hard to believe, I am wondering when the President will have a College Rally, with tens of thousands?
If not now, when?
They are claiming 15,000 because some blog said so. Here is the picture….
Don’t forget….Ryan is the new ” Shiny Object ” Palin drew big crowds also.
That’s not 15,000. That’s 5,000 at most. I’m a minister’s daughter, we know how to estimate crowd sizes……”how many were in church this morning?” Every time we would attend an event, concert, baseball game,……my dad estimated the crowd. We get quite good at it.
It’s a good crowd, but yeah, definitely not 15,000.
This is what a crowd of 15,000 looks like:
http://brewcitybrawler.typepad.com/.a/6a00d834519bda69e20120a5db7baf970c-800wi
You can go to Jack Cafferty blog and comment, if you like.
I sent him both the pictures and told him to stop reading right wing blogs about crowd size. I asked him if he is just another GOP water carrier like the rest of his talking point reading co-workers….. ( I refuse to call them journalists )
Grrrr.
He probably won’t do college rallies until kids are back in school. Most are still on summer break.
Good point.
Maybe he won’t have one with tens of thousands. And what if he doesn’t.
Then, the comparisons to 08 will continue.
So. Let it continue. We can’t control what the media do. If it wasn’t this they would be comparing this campaign to 2008 about something else.
In 2008 there was no incumbent……..PBO will not draw those kind of crowds this time….
The pundits can all bite my wrinkled up old lady butt !
Romney is such a bloody hypocrite but luckily the Obama team and twitter isn’t letting him get away with it. I love our side. We fight lies with facts.
