John Sides, co-author of E-Book, The Gamble, says based on historical data, PBO shouldn’t be leading Robme at this point in time. If elected, he’ll be the only Pres to do so under the economic circumstances as they exist today. One reason is 58% independents/undecideds still blame Bush for the state of the economy. The other is PBO’s strong likability factor. Also, the unemployment rate, though at 8.3% is just low enough, and coupled with the other points mentioned keeps PBO ahead. Interesting.

Ronald Reagan also had a crappy economy heading into his 2nd term. Things had not corrected itself fully and he was re-elected in a landslide because I think many Dems voted for Reagan back then and I could never figure out why.
The New York Times reports that a new book on the Osama bin Laden raid is due out next month:
The book, “No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission That Killed Osama bin Laden,” which is scheduled to be released on Sept. 11, has been a tightly held secret at the publisher, Penguin. It promises to be one of the biggest books of the year, with the potential to affect the presidential campaign in the final weeks before the election.
The author’s name will be listed as Mark Owen by Dutton, an imprint of Penguin. For security reasons, he used a pseudonym and changed the names of other Seal members.
A former member of Seal Team 6, the author was a team leader in the operation that resulted in the death of Bin Laden in Abbottabad, Pakistan, on May 2, 2011.
A co-writer, Kevin Maurer, is the author of four books and was embedded with Special Forces in Afghanistan six times.
According to a description of the book, provided by a publishing executive, the author gives a “blow-by blow narrative of the assault, beginning with the helicopter crash that could have ended Owen’s life straight through to the radio call confirming Bin Laden’s death, is an essential piece of modern history.”

I’d like to know if it is proObama or con too. I keep seeing ads for 2016 saying it is the movie the WH doesn’t want you to see. Also there are a couple of authors out advertising their current book that is saying what Obama is worried about and other potentially troubling things.
The ads are put out by Republicans and are from a RW perspective, so they will always make it sound like there is something in there that is “bad news for Obama.” These kinds of “releases” are political and engineered by GOP operatives, so I wouldn’t worry too much about them. Thankfully, most people are aware of them and don’t take them seriously. The people who do are those who were never going to vote for Obama anyway. Most of the time, these attempts do not work well with Independent voters who are more interested in actual issues, and not smear campaings, and so they usually end up backfiring.
It’s not even Sept and the magnificent VP Biden is just ripping #RomneyRyan to shreds …. and having a heck of a lot of fun doing it and the crowd just is going nuts love’n it …

NEW YORK — A first-hand account of the Navy SEAL mission that killed Osama bin Laden is coming out Sept. 11.
Dutton announced Wednesday that Mark Owen’s “No Easy Day” will “set the record straight” on the raid in Pakistan in May 2011.
“Mark Owen” is a pseudonym for the combat veteran who was one of the first fighters to enter bin Laden’s third floor hideout and also witnessed his death, according to Dutton, an imprint of Penguin Group (USA). The co-author, journalist Kevin Maurer, has worked on four previous books.
One senior military official said the manuscript was not shared with special operations officials, to check for possible disclosure of classified information. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the vetting of classified information

There seems to be a lot of secrecy on the part of the author including use of a pseudonym and using disguise for televised appearances. This leads me to suspect that this is another swiftboat attempt, and is probably well related to the recent attempt with the OPSEC video.
What’s heartening is that based on the comments I’ve seen on NY Times and HP, many readers seem very unimpressed by this and are already dismissing it as a swiftboat attempt.

My appraisal for my House came in- not good-
First in late November I bought my House, and in august 2009 I got my first appraisal, 252k.
Then, after Market crashed, august of 2009 it was 126k. 2010 it was 109, 2011 it was 101 and now this year it is all the way down to 87k.

I had the opposite happen to me here in Chicago: at the height of the bubble my house was appraised at $273K. It went down in the bubble and now is magically back up to $264K.
Here’s the kicker: my property taxes are now 50% higher than they were in the bubble. So my house is worth less and my property taxes have gone up $1,200/year, even with my husband’s alleged senior ‘freeze’. Doesn’t free the amount we pay but some multiplier or some such nonsense.
I don’t pay taxes, disabled Veteran! But, Governor Quinn may need more Revenue for public education, while in Florida Governor Scott is cutting taxes and gutting public education.

Property taxes are county and city. It’s complicated in IL — I want to contribute the money but the municipalities and the workers have to do their part. Even for a staunch union supporter like me, I know too much about certain public unions in this city. I have multiple family members and good friends who are firefighters, city workers, sanitation, paramedics, cops. They need to meet the mayor and the Governor halfway, and all Emanuel wants is an honest days’ work and the right to factor outcome into the big picture.
Quinn has an impossible job to do in this state. We have these weird Dem’s who aren’t really Dem’s, but they are not Blue Dogs. It’s a Chicago/Illinois thing. Politics is a sport in IL.

A new Marquette Law School Poll finds the presidential race is tightening in Wisconsin following the selection of Rep. Paul Ryan as the Republican vice-presidential candidate. The poll, conducted August 16-19, finds that 49 percent of likely voters say they will vote for Democratic President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden, while 46 percent say they will vote for former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, the Republican presidential candidate, and Ryan. In the previous Marquette Law School Poll, conducted August 2-5 before Ryan’s selection, Obama led 50 to 45 percent.
“The two-point shift in Romney’s direction is within the margin of error for the poll but suggests Ryan’s addition to the ticket may have slightly increased Romney’s chances in Wisconsin,” said Professor Charles Franklin, director of the Marquette Law School Poll.

In the U.S. Senate race between former Republican Governor Tommy Thompson and Democratic Rep. Tammy Baldwin, Thompson holds a 50 percent to 41 percent advantage following his victory in the GOP primary Aug. 14. In the early August poll, Thompson led 48 percent to 43 percent.

This is the third poll that has shown the race tightening in WI. I had hoped we wouldn’t have to waste money on more ads than normal in that state but it looks like Wisconsinites like their Ryan so I guess the campaign in going to have to educate them. :(
I noticed that the O-camp doesn’t seem to be rushing to put resources in WI or to campaign there at this time. It’s quite possible that they anticipated this tightening trend as part of a normal pattern (plus with Ryan being put on the ticket).
I looked at the WI polling for 2008, and I see a similar trend with the polls tightening in Aug/Sept and then Obama opening a wider lead again from early October onward. Incidentally, I noticed the same general trend for most of the battleground states - the polls tighten around Aug/Early sept, and then PBO widens the lead from late September onward…
Hardball had a poll with Romney ahead in MI and WI today.
That was just one of three polls, two of which had Obama leading. Like I said, I don’t see the O-Camp panicking about this and it’s consistent with 2008 patterns around the same time of year.

The TV broadcast networks will not air the segment of the Republican National Convention in which Ann Romney’s currently scheduled to speak.

I think there’s evidence that the Romney forces have figured much of this out. And so even though we have a political press that believes itself to be a savvy judge of campaign strategy, here is one that will probably go unnamed and un-described because (…and this may be the cleverest part) a post-truth campaign for president falls into the category of too big to tell.
Meaning: feels too partisan for the officially unaligned. Exposes the press to criticism in too clear a fashion. Messes with the “both sides do it”/we’re impartial narrative that political journalists have mastered: and deeply believe in. Romney will be fact checked, his campaign will push back from time to time, the fact checkers will argue among themselves, and the post-truth premise will sneak into common practice without penalty or recognition, even though there is nothing covert about it.
