I’ve been lurking for over a year. I live in Ireland and I am a big fan of PBO. Well done Chipstick on the great job you are doing on this site and for a darling President who is loved around the world. I really hope American people give this exceptional man four more years to continue with the great work that he started four years ago. Forward America!!!

Thank you so much Jimmyfgeorge for supporting our President. I just loved the way the Irish people received President Obama when he came to visit your beautiful country. I wish many of us in America would pay attention to your views about the President. It’s plainly obvious that many people in Ireland, and in many other countries for that matter, love and respect President Obama. It’s also the case that President Obama loves and respects people from other countries. Many of us who support President Obama are determined to work as hard as we can to make sure he is re-elected. The United States cannot afford to squander the goodwill President Obama has generated abroad; and especially from strong allies like Ireland.

Isonprize, you are not alone! I listen to all the President’s speeches posted here and elsewhere. Sometimes I listen to them twice to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Lately, I am doing the same with VP Biden’s speeches. May be I am biased, but I think President Obama and VP Biden are two of the most genuine leaders to occupy their respective offices in my lifetime. I was a teenager (15 years) when JFK was elected and I can’t say that I honestly understood what was going on; but I’ve keenly observed Presidents and VPs since LBJ and Hubert Humphrey.

Absolutely! It’s so tough to wait in large crowds, and especially on hot days. I am glad the President pays more attention to the people waiting for him to speak than he does on the schedules of the mainstream media.

I love it! Obama is getting out in front of the people while Mitt Romney is doing what? I’ve noticed Obama holds way more rallies than Romney and he’s set to hold on Friday with Biden in New Hampshire after locking up the Democratic Nomination! I think this is great. I think Main Street campaigning works far better than what Romney is doing and I believe it will be the difference in November.

President Obama’s administration is telling states with public transportation systems to get ready for more oversight from the federal government.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Federal Transit Authority (FTA) Administrator Peter Rogoff wrote a letter to the governors of 26 states that have public transportation systems operating in them explaining new authority given to the federal government to regulate transit agencies by the recently approved $105 billion surface transportation bill.

“Under MAP-21, we’re ushering in a new era for transit safety, and we are committed to working with our state leaders to strengthen and help fund robust state safety oversight agencies to carry out this vitally important mission,” LaHood wrote. “Public transit remains one of the safest ways to travel in the U.S., and we intend to keep it that way.”

The change LaHood was touting gives the federal government power, for the first time, to do more than tie safety requirements for public transportation systems in the United States to future funding. Previously, transit systems were primarily overseen by the local and state governments that appropriated their money for them.
Rogoff said having a national set of standards would make public transportation more safe for riders across the country.

“We are closing a loophole in how transit safety oversight is regulated and enforced that is long overdue,” Rogoff said. “For the first time FTA will be able to establish basic safety standards to better ensure the safety of tens of millions of passengers that ride public transportation each day.”

Chips, everyone … We all know of the #InaugurationInsurgency and the persistent effort, every single day, from 20 Jan 2025 onward to implement that plot as to destroy the Presidency of Barack Obama. We will continue pressing to have those facts known by as many Americans as possible.

However, #BirtherMitt, amidst the ocean of lies he has told since any of us began paying attention to the bully creep, he told one on Thursday that really needs to be exploited. I will forever be grateful to Jon Stewart and his research team for what he exposed yesterday evening …

“Jon Stewart calls “Bull f*$king *&it” on Convention speakers & their fictitious talking points”
    http://freakoutnation.com/2012/09/01/jon-stewart-calls-bull-fucking-shit-on-convention-speakers-their-fictitious-talking-points/

“While convincing us that President Obama has destroyed our future, Republicans have also invented a past where they were trying to help him succeed.”

    And, here’s the GOLD:

“8 days after Obama was sworn in, Mitt Romney defended Rush Limbaugh’s controversial words in wanting the President to fail.”

And, Jon plays the video!!!! If anyone can find a YouTube of that segment of #BainMitt defending Rush, we can just imagine all the ways it can be woven into very effective attacks on Romney.

    • 91 nathkatun7
      September 2, 2025 at 12:22 am

I wish somebody would ask Romney to show us, in detailed specifics, how he intends to create 12 million jobs? Surely it can’t all be about giving more tax cuts to the wealthy; or ending Wall Street regulations; or cutting medicare and medicaid and all the programs that serve the elderly and the poor; or by firing public workers. On the last one, only a fool would believe that firing teachers, cops, firefighters, and other public employees would result in creating jobs. Public employees buy food, houses, cars, gasoline, computers, washing machines, clothes, etc. They also pay taxes and pay for their kids education. This notion that you can increase jobs by firing public employees is totally ludicrous.

The reason the unemployment rate remains high has a great deal to do with the loss of jobs by public employees. Republican governors, like Scott Walker in Wisconsin, have played a major role in laying off public employees. The same is true of the Republican Congress which refused to pass the President’s jobs bill aimed at hiring or saving the jobs of cops, firefighters and teachers.

    http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2012/09/01/787661/romneys-former-company-under-investigation-for-tax-evasion/

ROMNEY’S FORMER COMPANY UNDER INVESTIGATION FOR TAX EVASION | Bain Capital, the private equity firm founded by presidential candidate Mitt Romney, is under investigation for questionable tax practices, according to the New York Times. Since July, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman has been issuing subpoenas to private equity firms including Bain, which he believes intentionally changed management fees into capital gains as a way of hanging onto millions of dollars that would have otherwise been taxed at a higher rate. Bain alone is estimated to have saved “more than $200 million in federal income taxes and more than $20 million in Medicare taxes.” It is unclear whether the tax strategy was used while Romney was at the helm of the company, but the Times reports that Romney is still making money on funds that are using the method in question. A lawyer who handles Romney’s money says he “can confirm that neither he nor the trust has ever done this, whether before or after he retired from Bain Capital.” Still, little is known about Romney’s finances, except that he makes a windfall on capital gains each year, since he has refused to release his tax returns.

Jovie, exactly what should Democrats do to “push this stuff”? Why are you letting the media off the hook for not doing their job properly? I am sorry but I am sick and tired of us blaming ourselves and our party for the failure of the media to do their job. I’ve never heard Republicans blame their party whenever they are dissatisfied with the media. I think we do ourselves a great disservice by continuing to blame ourselves for the media’s failure to report the news truthfully. As far as I am concerned, I think the cowardly U.S. mainstream media is so intimidated by the right wing Republicans and that’;s why the hedge, or try to find false equivalences, when they are forced to report on news that is not favorable to Republicans.

    • 102 57andFemale
      September 2, 2025 at 8:29 am

And of course, all long term care for seniors is through Medicaid. those benefits will evaporate under R&R.

If you’re 30 or 40-something, you don’t think that will affect you? Are you willing to assume the burden of your parents’ and grandparents’ long term care and not be able to buy a house or send your children to college?

And let’s be clear: damn near every senior ends up in long term care at some time. Sure R&R will shove it onto the states but that’s the point: states cannot and do not take care of people uniformly.

THIS AFFECTS EVERYONE, not just the black and brown ‘freeloaders’ that R&R are trying to convince you are taking your stuff.

It is R&R that will take away all your stuff.

    DRIP. DRIP. DRIP.

Bain Capital, the private equity firm founded by presidential candidate Mitt Romney, is under investigation for questionable tax practices, according to the New York Times.

This is exactly why the Republicans have been desperately trying to bring down Attorney General Eric Holder. Their problem with him is that he is actually doing his job of enforcing the laws. And we know that Jon Kyl was livid that he was actually enforcing the voting rights laws. President Obama and his administration are doing the hard work of governing and it’s freaking out the GOP. I shudder to think that Alberto Gonzalez was once the Attorney General of the United States.

The New York attorney general is investigating whether some of the nation’s biggest private equity firms have abused a tax strategy in order to slice hundreds of millions of dollars from their tax bills, according to executives with direct knowledge of the inquiry….

Among the firms to receive subpoenas are Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Company, TPG Capital, Sun Capital Partners, Apollo Global Management, Silver Lake Partners and Bain Capital, which was founded by Mitt Romney, the Republican nominee for president. Representatives for the firms declined to comment on the inquiry.

    Love Gov. O’Malley!

Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley will balance multiple roles at convention

Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley will be a busy man at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte this week.

His aides have set up scores of media interviews and booked him to speak to several state delegations, including all-important Iowa. He could very well land a coveted prime-time spot addressing the convention.

He’s even bringing his band. O’Malley’s March, the Celtic rock group for which he’s lead singer, has booked two late-night gigs at local bars.

His biggest challenge this week may be to remember that, at this year’s convention, he is a supporting act and not the headliner.

Party conventions have long been target-rich environments for politicians eyeing future presidential races, and O’Malley is among the Democrats widely assumed to be looking at 2016. Thousands of party activists, key donors and political journalists will be on hand for the week.

That provides ample opportunities to make good impressions, provided you don’t overlook the task at hand: in this case, helping President Obama get re-elected.

a bit to share with my TOD family,

earlier today, I was enjoying myself mixing it up with the fellow tailgaters at The Ohio State Univ versus Miami (Ohio) Univ at The Ohio Stadium (AKA The Horse Shoe, AKA The Shoe) when I observed a “mini” convoy with super-high security. Mind you this convoy was “mini” when compared to that of PBO.

Of course, like any self-respecting-gawker, I surged foward to see who was getting out. I swear, the USSS was just a few feet away when I saw the pompus-mean-selfish-liar Paul Ryan come out and start shaking hands with the tailgaters.

I was so ofended by the sight of this mean excuse of a human being that I turned away from where others were trying to take photos and shouted : “there is no way I can take photos of HIM”

I also shouted as loud as I could: ” Waste of time …. Ohio is for Obama “.

I was not even thinking of the USSS detail or the people next to me. I was disgusted by the mean one and I wanted him to know it.

Yep, I am crazy like that when it comes to people who liar and insult PBO

I gave “Brutus” himself a high five as he led The Best Damn Band in The Land” into The Shoe and before they went through the tunnel.

Today was the first game under the new coach Mr Urban Meyers.

with the starting over that the Buckeyes are doing, the phrase they are using to celebrate the impact of the new coach Mr Urban Myers is that this season is “Urban Renewal” - this shirt was very popular today

OSU is looking, Gov Strickland had pushed it towards getting more environmentally sustainable and part of that is going on. Lot and lots of construction going on EVERYWHERE. hard to recognize

“Early voting and encouraging people to vote by mail, get engaged and involved early has always been a big part of our focus,” Psaki said. “And our investment has focused on building our grassroots campaign, making sure we have staff on the ground to organize neighbor-to-neighbor programs, to get the community leaders involved at an early stage. And in many of these states we’ve had people on the ground since 2008, and that’s where we felt it was important to invest.”

    PAUL RYAN’S BOGUS BUDGET RULES

His first action as Budget Committee chairman proved his reputation as a deficit hawk was a sham

    By Andrew Leonard

    ============================================

The always-cogent Greg Ip reminds us that the very first thing Paul Ryan did after ascending to the position of chairman of the House Budget Committee in January 2011 was to make a key change in the rules governing how the committee approached its business.

One of his first acts in that job was to replace the old Paygo budget rule, which required any new spending increase or tax cut to be offset to neutralize the deficit impact, with “Cutgo,” which applied that condition only to spending. In other words, tax cuts that blow up the deficit were fine.

The new rules immediately made Ryan’s reputation as a “deficit hawk” risible, but when I went back to look at what I wrote about the changes when they happened, I recalled that the scandal went even deeper.

    ===========================================

    • 188 theo67
      September 1, 2025 at 11:07 pm

The media pushed the false reputation of Paul Ryan as some budget wizard, when they kept repeating the nonsense about his “bold and courageous” budget, even though it first had no numbers, and then was proven to be devastating to seniors and poor people. After the President smacked down Paul Ryan like the little boy that he is, the media should have wised up, and stopped pushing that meme. Well, Paul Ryan is heading for a correction - he has the debate with Joe Biden to look forward to, and I really wish there were going to be more than one debate.

You know Obama Grandmama, “No lie can Live Forever!” For example, more and more senior citizens will soon find out that ObamaCare is good for them. It has so far been good for me. I get to have annual cheek up exams for free. Already I am paying less than half of what I used to pay for my asthma medication and other prescription medicine. Also, this year my senior supplemental insurance payment went down more than $50 a month because of the ACA (Obama Care). On top of that, I’ve seen no reduction of my medicare benefits. Pretty soon, Mitt Romney’s lies that President Obama is cutting medicare will be debunked by real personal experiences of the people, like me, who receive medicare.

A LONG List of President Obama’s Accomplishments – With Citations

    By Milt Shook

    ===============================

If you’re one of those folks who thinks President Obama is a “disappointment,” you haven’t been paying attention the last few years. And those of you who try to draw comparisons with the Bush Administration should put away the hallucinogens and have your memory checked. If you were in a coma for the eight Bush Years, I apologize and forgive you. But please join the real world. So far, this president has done most of what he said he would do if elected; imagine what he could have done by now if progressives had supported him and not given him a Congress that doesn’t look at him as if he’s the demon seed.

Not only is he NOT a “disappointment,” he’s pretty much the opposite. And no, I don’t just say that because he took out Osama bin Laden, helped Libya determine their own destiny for the first time in a while, and because he seems able to handle international incidents without starting a new war. The guy does nearly everything we elect a president to do, and he doesn’t brag about it constantly.
