A WELL-TRAVELED BUSINESSMAN WHO RAN THE 2002 WINTER OLYMPICS AND SPEAKS FRENCH.
Mitt Romney won’t stop attacking
By Roger Simon
———————————-
“The governor is an extraordinarily well-traveled businessman, he lived overseas as a young man, he speaks French, he understands the world and he’s written extensively about foreign policy and national security. The idea that he’s this naive guy at 65 years old, given his experience heading the Olympic Winter Games and everything else, I just don’t think that’s going to play.”
So when news came about the breaching of the security wall around our embassy in Egypt and the terrible killing of our ambassador to Libya and three other Americans in Benghazi, I’ll bet you had the same thought I did: “If only we had a well-traveled businessman in the White House! If only we had a guy who speaks French! If only we had a guy who could use his deep understanding of the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics and apply those lessons to Libya and Egypt, then I would feel safer tonight!”
As I said, one does not know whether to laugh or cry.
Has that Rinse Prewash guy been on any of the talk shows since making that remark about the President the other day. I’m just curious as to whether they have him in hiding??
Well I figured they would keep him in hiding until things cooled off. They don’t want him to have to answer for that hideous tweet he sent out. He is still on twitter but I hadn’t heard anyone mention that he had been questioned on any of the cable shows. It just shows what cowards they are.
Gooooood Morning O folks!!!!! What a great getting up day again for us TODsters! Poor Mittiful, he’s backing off his crazy from earlier in the week. His surrogates are out there serving him no real purpose. They are sounding more and more incredulous. The poll numbers are horrible for him. PBO leads with a cushion that even $$$$$$ in ads will not sway enough undecideds his way. He’d have to get 80% of undecideds in 10 swing states. There isn’t that much money in the world, this late in the campaign. I wonder how many times Ann has the maid bop him over the head with a frying pan for losing her turn in their next house to us people.
My political take today is PBO does it again. Folks are running around all aghast at him saying that Egypt is neither our ally, nor enemy. Yet, today the head of Egypt has made sure that there are no threats to the embassy or any US personnel there. They have been regulated to the town square for their protest. I don’t know when people are going to realize there is not coincidences when it comes to PBO. He was not talking to anyone here in America. The person who needed to hear his message was all ears.

Me too TD. It’s not just on the so-called pundits either. We rank in file Dems do it too. Listening to poopy-heads in line with me waiting for DNC tickets complain about how the ticket drawing should have been done this way or that way. It took every ounce of restraint I could muster to not admonish them. “You’re standing in line to get a free ticket to see the President of the United States. All you had to do was just give them your contact information and wait. WTF is hard about that? Let these people do their jobs. Either join the campaign and help out or STFU”. I didn’t say anything cuz I don’t speak rationally when I’m angry and I knew it wouldn’t have been pretty. A couple of people caught me rolling me eyes and nodded in silent agreement. Some people make you wanna just smack ‘em upside their heads.
WASHINGTON — When Barack Obama first ran for president, being green was so popular that oil companies like Chevron were boasting about their commitment to renewable energy, and his Republican opponent, John McCain, supported action on global warming.

As Mr. Obama seeks re-election, that world is a distant memory. Some of the mightiest players in the oil, gas and coal industries are financing an aggressive effort to defeat him, or at least press him to adopt policies that are friendlier to fossil fuels. And the president’s former allies in promoting wind and solar power and caps on greenhouse gases? They are disenchanted and sitting on their wallets.
This year’s campaign on behalf of fossil fuels includes a surge in political contributions to Mitt Romney, attack ads questioning Mr. Obama’s clean-energy agenda, and television spots that are not overtly partisan but criticize administration actions like new air pollution rules and the delay of the Keystone XL oil pipeline from Canada.
THE AMERICAN PEOPLE DON’T HAVE AMNESIA. “ROMNEY IS BUSH ON STEROIDS”
Bush is gone, but not forgotten
By Steve Benen
—————-
CNN released an interesting poll yesterday that, on the surface, appeared to offer bad news for incumbent officeholders, especially President Obama. A plurality of Americans believes they’re worse off than they were four years ago, and only a third believes the economy is in good shape.
But the larger question is more important: who do Americans hold responsible for our ongoing challenges? I put together a simple chart to show why Republicans are discouraged by the results.
.
.
The public’s appetite for a third Bush term, however, is quite limited.
Is it any wonder so many Republicans are trying to bully Democrats into not mentioning Bush? The GOP seems to realize their fortunes rest on voters forgetting about the former president altogether.
PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON - Mitt Romney’s Policies Are George W. Bush ‘On Steroids’
———-
Here are excerpts of Clinton’s remarks, per the White House transcript:
…When you become President, your job is to explain where we are, say where you think we should go, have a strategy to get there, and execute it. By that standard, Barack Obama deserves to be reelected President of the United States. And I’m going to tell you the only reason we’re even meeting here. I mean, this is crazy — he’s got an opponent who basically wants to do what they did before, on steroids — which will get you the same consequences you got before, on steroids….
.
.
…Why do I tell you this? Because somebody will say to you, maybe, but I don’t feel better. And you say, look, the man’s not Houdini; all he can do is beat the clock. He’s beating the clock….We are moving this country forward. We are going in the right direction under President Obama’s leadership. So I think he’s done a good job. I think he is beating the historical standard for coming out of a financial collapse and a mortgage collapse. I think the last thing you want to do is to turn around and embrace the policies that got us into trouble in the first place. We need to keep going forward by reelecting Barack Obama President of the United States.
Republicans like to tell themselves that this election is like 1980 when Ronald Reagan came back after the debates to defeat President Jimmy Carter. What they miss is that Reagan led in that election all summer after Carter’s bruising primary win over Ted Kennedy. Mitt Romney has never led in this race.

Romney’s Humiliation Grows As Facts Emerge In Libya Episode
By Joe Conason
—————————
As essential facts emerge concerning the September 11 incident in Libya that led to the deaths of Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other American embassy staffers, it becomes increasingly obvious that Mitt Romney should have kept his noxious, uninformed, and opportunistic remarks to himself. But Romney’s comments criticizing US diplomatic personnel in the wake of that tragedy have proved him unfit for leadership, even without the damning information that has made him look foolish as well.
There was something truly vile in his statement accusing American diplomats of “sympathizing” with the extremists assaulting their embassy, when they were simply trying to defuse the Muslim anger that posed a grave threat to them and their colleagues. It was all too easy for the Republican candidate to pontificate from a safe podium while American diplomats risk their lives, as they do every day. (And to anyone aware that Romney avoided Vietnam-era military service through a Mormon missionary posting in France, his nonchalant slurring of courageous public servants was especially unbecoming.)
Both the Obama campaign and the pro-Obama super PAC Priorities USA Action are out this morning with new Spanish-language ads, including one from the Obama team that hits Mitt Romney for not supporting Sonia Sotomayor’s confirmation to the Supreme Court.
That ad, “Pagar la Cuenta,” features Nydia Menendez, a Puerto Rican lawyer from Florida, talking about Sotomayor.
@Messina2012 - Love it that the campaign is taking on the rethugs' supposedly 'strong suits' and tearing them apart for the world to see.— (@amk4obama) September 14, 2025
Since Repubs thought they owned this tactic, I’m glad to see us shoving it right back in their faces. Romney’s new tactic is that Obama is the liar. How’s that for brass?
Romney has set the stage for calling PBO a liar in the debates. He said that almost literally in the GMA interview. Now that will be a site to see.
My fear, amk, is that he’ll get in one zinger and that’s all that will be reported from the debates. In 2008 dKos and other sites were ready with lists of online polls so we could establish the narrative. I sincerely hope they do that again. It was crucial in making sure Repubs couldn’t re-write what had actually happened.
Romney’s China-bashing talks useless to U.S. economy
by Liu Chang
———————————-
BEIJING, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) — Merely aimed at scoring cheap political points in an election season, U.S. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney once again blamed China’s currency policy as the root cause for the excruciatingly high jobless rates in the United States.
While addressing a rally in the U.S. state of Virginia on Thursday, Romney, just as what he has done along his campaign trail, opened fire on China, claiming that it was Beijing’s undervalued RMB currency that forced U.S. manufacturers out of job.
What is more sensational is that this millionaire GOP candidate has vowed to declare China a currency manipulator on the first day of his presidency if elected.
Yet it is rather ironic that a considerable portion of this China-battering politician’s wealth was actually obtained by doing business with Chinese companies before he entered politics.
Ah, the GOP manufactured freak out du jour. Oh dear, criticism from China after being attacked by Mitt Romney. And how dare Stephanie Cutter point that out. There is an endless supply freak outs. Their need to be outraged about anything and everything is just overwhelming. It’s like peeling an onion.
Hey guys this is insane. A man called in a bomb threat at my school UT Austin. He said he placed bombs in different buildings and they would go off at about 10:30AM. The campus was in shock. They texted us, sent out sirens and told us to evacuate all buildings and campuses immediately. It was insane. They were telling us to get out now and get out of all buildings quickly. It was nuts. Last year a kid brought a gun to school and began shooting and now this. Our school is still in evacuation mode.
Their is Ryan, taking the Presidents talking points again!
Soon, they will copy all the Presidents speeches.
He just said, the President never lifted a Hand to help the Helpless.
Unbelievable!
About 17 people ventured to Lot 27 Wednesday afternoon to get a glimpse of one of Mitt Romney’s campaign buses. {…}
In Michigan, Romney’s representatives primary effort was recruiting supported for “Super Saturday,” a monthly event aimed to gauge the amount of Romney support in the area, Knight said.
“Super Saturday is when volunteers go door to door and focus on getting the word out for the Romney campaign,” Knight said.
In total, Romney has five buses that tour the nation, Knight said. Romney also has a campaign jet, which was built in Michigan. Governor Romney’s state headquarters are located in Lansing.
Romney should appeal to Michigan residents, she said.

Stephanie Cutter has the Republucans all pussed off, again-
In a Friday tweet, Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter cited the official state news agency of the Chinese Communist Party — prompting a Republican pile-on.
Cutter linked to a Reuters report about a strongly worded anti-Mitt Romney editorial in the state-run Xinhua news agency — a piece that accused the GOP nominee of wanting to spark a trade war, and hypocrisy in his business dealings. Cutter called it a “must read.”
“It is rather ironic that a considerable portion of this China-battering politician’s wealth was actually obtained by doing business with Chinese companies before he entered politics,” Xinhua wrote about Romney.
The Obama and Romney campaigns have been tussling over trade and outsourcing to China — a perennial favorite topic in election campaigns. Romney released an ad recently that said that China is “beating us,” accusing Obama of failing to stop Chinese currency manipulation.
But linking a state-run media organ did not sit well with the Republicans — who slammed Cutter.
Hey guys thanks for the warm wishes. It was just nuts. The guy said he was with Al Qaida and that there were multiple bombs in multiple buildings. Sirens began going off. Phones began ringing with text messages and all the info we got was that we should immediately stop what we’re doing and get out of all buildings immediately. They told us this is not a test, there is a credible threat. They shut down all the buses, some nearby schools went into lockdown mode, and all you heard was just get out, get out now!
Yeah. I did. My cousin was freaking out and texted me. I checked in with my family to let them know I was ok. It was just weird and shocking and disconcerting.
Obviously not an al Qaeda person, they would not give warning. There is someone (or several someones) who want to stoke up the ME. My personal theory is that people know the only way that PBO can lose now is if there is a major problem with the economy. The biggest threat, right now, is gas prices. Stir up the ME and oil prices go up as naturally as night follows day. Oil prices go up and gas prices go up. I am not going to accuse the Romney campaign of being involved in this, I don’t think they have the brains for it. But the Koch Brothers or Adelsom. They not only have the brains for it, but I doubt the lose of a few lives would bother them at all.
UT, so glad you all are okay. This is all an attempt to discredit PBO and hand him another 9/11, and a failed one ala GWB. I can feel it plain as the nose on my face. I am sure the truth will win out. Take care.

I know. Seriously. She’s either really stupid to think people aren’t trying to take photos of her EVERYWHERE she goes, or she’s really begging for attention and possibly needs some counseling.
It’s not just at UT-Austin, guys! [Thank goodness our own utaustinliberal is okay]. Turns out there’s also a bomb threat at North Dakota State too!

Now we turn to Mitt Romney and foreign policy aide Richard Williamson saying that if Romney had been president, these embassy attacks wouldn’t be happening. Right. He’d have stopped that movie. He’d have shown them the iron hand of fear. They’d be singing My Country Tis of Three. And the rain would never fall til after sundown, and by eight the morning fog would disappear (prize to the first to name the reference).
It just doesn’t pass the bullshit test. McCain and his aides could have gotten away with saying something like that. But Mitt Romney? Please. The flies of New Hampshire chuckle when they see him approaching with a flyswatter.
My OFA was buzzin’ yesterday…great evening of volunteering! One of our phone bankers, who is new to the state, commented that when people asked her who was running against Martin Heinrich and she told them Heather Wilson, most people said, “Oh no, I’m not voting for her!” The phone banker commented that Heather Wilson was in deep shit! LOL! It’s a joy to know that the President is leading in New Mexico as well as Martin Heinrich. We will work hard make sure that he takes this state in November.
Happy Birthday to everyone I missed yesterday and a big “OMFG” to collegekay for her phone call from the President!
The latest offensive will come Friday, when the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee releases a commercial casting New York Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle as a Ryan pawn.
“Only in Washington would this happen. Ann Marie Buerkle voted to increase taxes on middle-class families by $1,400. And where does the money go? To give millionaires a $265,000 tax cut,” the ad says as a picture of Ryan flashes on screen. “It’s Paul Ryan’s plan — and Anne Marie Buerkle voted for it.”
The ad was the House Democratic campaign arm’s second to feature Ryan – late last week it came out with another which showed a stick-figure-like New York Rep. Chris Gibson standing alongside Ryan.
“Chris Gibson voted for Paul Ryan’s budget that leaves seniors at the mercy of the insurance industry,” it says.

DCCC Releases “One of the Crowd” TV Ad Targeting Congressman Gibson for Ending Medicare
——————
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is launching an Independent Expenditure campaign TV ad hitting Congressman Chris Gibson (NY-19) on his support of Paul Ryan’s budget that ends Medicare, raising health care costs for seniors to pay for more tax breaks for millionaires. The DCCC ad will begin running Thursday.
The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office found that the Ryan plan would raise health care costs for seniors by $6,400 while giving more tax cuts to millionaires.
The latest Siena polling shows that with Congressman Paul Ryan on the ticket, Mitt Romney is trailing by nearly 30 points in New York. Speaker Boehner has said this will be a major drag on New York Republicans like Congressman Gibson, and that they are “frankly pretty vulnerable.”

My vent for today. I cringe when I see a sentence that begins
psychology 101…
Avoid using the word ” should “
For me, it’s “PBO needs to….”
Ah yes, that too!
UGH!
Law of constructive relationships: Don’t SHOULD on me.
I like that!

Uh huh, uh huh!

Five Reasons Mitt Romney Is Losing
============================

Since Repubs thought they owned this tactic, I’m glad to see us shoving it right back in their faces. Romney’s new tactic is that Obama is the liar. How’s that for brass?
That’s not brass. It’s crass craven cowardliness. He is afraid that Obama will throw the truth at his disgusting little scummy face.
Oh,I remember this stupid pundtwitry after each debate and their live rebuttal. And now we have twitter on our finger tips, literally.
No way the mittbot and their msm shills get away with it. Just witness the last two days.
True. Thank GOD.
ROMNEY’S BREATHTAKING HYPOCRISY ON CHINA

Great article! How can we get this to the NYT or LA Times …any major newspaper. Romney is pissing off the whole world!!
Just read below that this is the article Stephanie Cutter said is a “must read” and has the Repugs all pissed off.
Heart, breaking.

Q: Why did the chicken cross the road?
A: To get away from the Romney campaign
Q: Why did Karl Rove name his SuperPAC “Crossroads GPS”?
A: He’s inside the chicken
Q: Why is GPS in the name?
A: Because by the time the Romney campaign is done fucking him, you’ll need a GPS to locate what’s left.
LOL!!!
I’m so sorry about this UT, but I’m so glad that you’re alright.
Glad you are ok utaustin. Just texted my daughter … she is probably on campus this morning. Worried, not heard back yet.
Thanks so much for checking in. I was concerned about you! Please stay safe.
Relieved to know you are ok UT. Hopefully, it is a hoax and no one will be harmed except for the trauma of being frightened (which is bad enough).
#PRESSON
Thank God you are ok ut. Did others evacuate ?
OMG, UT! I hope this is just a hoax and they catch that creep. Be safe. Let us know how you’re doing when you can.
Their is Ryan, taking the Presidents talking points again!
Soon, they will copy all the Presidents speeches.
He just said, the President never lifted a Hand to help the Helpless.
Unbelievable!
I’m working at home today and just turned on MSNBC. I lasted about 30 seconds of Eddie Munster’s lying face.
I’m sure he’d be welcomed on Tavis and West poverty tour- they’re all losers anyway
Mission not accomplished.
About 17 people ventured to Lot 27 Wednesday afternoon to get a glimpse of one of Mitt Romney’s campaign buses. {…}
Romney should appeal to Michigan residents, she said.
damn — I’m expecting more than that at my house tomorrow for a phonebank and canvass!
This needs to be tweeted to Andrea Mitchell and Chucky Toad since they think Mittbot is “surging” in the polls after the GOP convention.
Anybody watching VV12? I’m reading on twitter that Ryan knows he’s losing so he is going rogue and saying things contra Romney in order to save his hide in WI.
lurv it.
And now it looks like he’s propping up Romney’s “moral” character.
What moral character, Romney has no moral character.

ANYONE WHO FAILS TO RELEASE THEIR TAX RETURNS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO RUN FOR PRESIDENT!
Mitt Romney is hiding something, that is why he refuse to release his tax returns.
LOL!
Love cutter, the cutie potatie.
But I’m safe now. Just in shock.
Bet it was some rwnj whacko who placed that call. Glad you’re safe. Did you call home and let them know you’re ok?
Yeah. I did. My cousin was freaking out and texted me. I checked in with my family to let them know I was ok. It was just weird and shocking and disconcerting.
So no bombs were found? Good. Fucking idiots. Glad you’re okay.
Good. Now go take a break.
so sorry for all of you ut- but very glad you’re safe.
Me too. My arms are stretched out wide for you, dear! {{{ut}}}
Very happy that you’re safe and sound. So many lunatics out there.
Take care.
So glad you’re safe!!!

I know.

The Common Sense Test
by Michael Tomasky
——————-
Now we turn to Mitt Romney and foreign policy aide Richard Williamson saying that if Romney had been president, these embassy attacks wouldn’t be happening.

Hey TOD Family!
LYIN RYAN STARS IN HOUSE DEMS CAMPAIGN ADS
Democrats use Paul Ryan’s mug in ads
—————————-
The latest offensive will come Friday, when the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee releases a commercial casting New York Rep.
