Bob, Steve Benen’s essay was excellent! Benen meticulously exposed the lying Paul Ryan. On the previous thread I thanked Ladyhawke for sharing it with us. Now I get to thank you for spreading it on twitter. Steve Benen is really doing excellent journalism.
Berny, I definitely haven’t see you in a while! We seriously have to do something about lives that keep interfering with our TOD hangouts! ;);) Till then, it sure is nice to see you today.
Thanks VC! Yes, it does, only been able to write a few tweets also, but I make sure it’s part of my daily routine to at least read the blogs and skim through tweets so I can stay up to date with the Great PBO, his lovely family and the fantastic supporters here who really know what’s going on :)
So, I’m pinch hitting at a different library today. Patron comes up to the reference desk to use the stapler. He asked what I used to do before being a librarian. I went into my telecom spiel. He said, “Ah, you needed something that wouldn’t destroy your soul.” That’s pretty much my job in a nutshell.
Re: Tzipi Livni being in charge of negotiations with the Palestinians: I think it’s interesting that she and her party were the first to join Bibi’s new government. My guess is that he did this so he could reel in the really big fish, Yesh Atid, which won’t join a government that doesn’t A) have peace with the Palestinians as a central brief, and B) that won’t reform the laws which give special privileges to the ultra-Orthodox.
BTW, is Ehud Barak’s party still going to be in govt? Did it even make the 2% threshold?
Very interesting. Maybe Bibi has come to the grudging realization that he won’t survive in his dream job unless he dances with the country that pays the bills.
Bibi has been licking a lot of wounds ever since he decided to stick his nose into U.S. political affairs of late. I’m interested to see if he is going to parade Rubio around like he did Romney this week. One indication is Kerry canceling Israeli portion of his trip, should send the message.
Chips is moving this blog right along today. I’m way behind, but I did watch Hubris this morning. I was very sad at the end. They need a full season HBO series or Showtime to tell the whole story.
wow, such a cool photo! it’s always neat for me to see how something to huge and historic originates from a simple computer file and a pen and some paper…just like the rest of us. yes, we can too!!
Chips, if you can find Tiger’s interview on the Golf Channel it was wonderful. Tiger was very complimentary, and it was obvious he greatly enjoyed it. He said he and PBO won. It is no surprise PBO and Tiger were on the same time.
Obama Turns Up the Heat on the Sequester, GOP Squeals
Posted by Deaniac83

“Now Republicans in Congress face a simple choice,” Obama said. “Are they willing to compromise to protect vital investments in education and health care and national security and all the jobs that depend on them? Or would they rather put hundreds of thousands of jobs and our entire economy at risk just to protect a few special interest tax loopholes that benefit the wealthiest individuals and corporations. That’s the choice. Are you willing to see a bunch of first responders lose their jobs because you want to protect a special interest tax loophole? Are you willing to have teachers laid off or kids not have access to head start? Or deeper cuts in student loan programs?”
.
.
The Republicans wouldn’t be complaining so much if they didn’t feel the squeeze. They really don’t want to abandon their base again and vote for a sensible proposal to hold off the sequester, but they also know that despite their efforts to blame the president for it, the large majority of Americans hold Republicans responsible for letting those happen instead of compromising with the president. And that will come back to haunt them in 2014.
“Are they willing….or Would they rather”…. They really ought to have learned not to mess with this man by now, eh? They are so immersed in their own hypocrisy, it seems they cannot recognize everyone is not as dishonest as they. IMHO.
What I don’t understand is why the R’s aren’t being pressured by defense contractors and Wall Street. Defense stocks will take a big hit from the sequester and big money will be lost by contractors. The GOP could care less about the middle class or the impact on real people, but they’re usually slaves for the money guys. Are they getting this kind of pressure? I sure hope so.
I’m surprised by this too. And I suspect that President Obama was counting on pressure from Wall Street and the Defense contractors to force republicans to give in on the revenue side of the equation. Something is going on behind the scenes. After all , Wall Street and the Defense contractors are ALSO interested in keeping their special tax loopholes. Maybe the “sequester” hurts jobs and the economy more than the PROFITS of those guys ?? Maybe those guys are playing some long game, and are willing to accept temporary losses and have concocted some plan with republicans to nullify defense cuts in a couple of weeks and put pressure on democrats ?…
Boehner, Graham and others don’t seem nervous enough. This is bizarre… I just hope they’re bluffing..
One thing is for sure. Max, indiscriminate, meat-cleaver cuts to defense budgets slash and burn the middle class in several ways. Not just the fact that federal employees are hurt, but employees of defense contractors are also hurt. Local economies are hurt, big time, anywhere near the military bases or shore activities. Services are lost forever - like shutting down public-private partnership child care facilities that took years to build up but can no longer function. Even the local pizza joint is hurt, in the military towns, due to lack of business.
While the defense budget can and should be cut, that’s usually done for minimum immediate impact to those I’ve described, over the course of years, with careful planning. The Defense Department is totally adept at strategic budgetary planning - they plan all the time for such eventualities - but it needs to have gradual effects, not slash-and-burn consequences.
Republicans are playing with fire politically, also, too, because there are a lot of conservatives in military communities, many retired who are still votin’ Republican, and a lot of conservatives who own the big business defense contractor corporations. As usual, they are going against their own interests, not to mention the nation’s economic and fairness issues. All because they hate the President.
my guess is that they’re throwing out a lot of anti-pbo rhetoric to please their rwnj voters, but at the last minute they’ll vote to support the interests of their billionaire masters, saying pbo had them over a barrel.
LP, the last line of Dylan Byers first paragraph ends with the concern that the White House press Corps may have damaged its reputation. Is he kidding? Does he realize in what contempt these morons are currently held.
You know jackie, I dont usually post Dylan “wannabe Ben Smith” Byers (which is not saying much), but I just find the 180 in this whole press narrative worthy of whiplash. These Bogarts cant make their mind up, its all amusing quite frankly!
This is a quote I found in the movie “Man of the Year” Thought it fit in with the msn today.
Hemmings: Will you be disappointed to be going back to television after this ride?
Eddie Langston: Oh, no. I have a glorious love-hate relationship with TV.
Hemmings: How so?
Eddie Langston: TV scares me. It makes everything seem credible.
Hemmings: Why is that so bad?
Eddie Langston: If everything seems credible then nothing seems credible. You know, TV puts everybody in those boxes, side-by-side. On one side, there’s this certifiable lunatic who says the Holocaust never happened. And next to him is this noted, honored historian who knows all about the Holocaust. And now, there they sit, side-by-side, they look like equals! Everything they say seems to be credible. And so, as it goes on, nothing seems credible anymore! We just stopped listening!
I would love to hand this picture to my students. Sometimes they forget to recognize the power of words and that the right words have significance and meaning.
A similar one from a few years back is posted in my classroom (12th grade ELA). I relate it to what is expected of them in regard to their writing (edit, revise and edit again).

Shrub didn’t want the country to know what HIS war was doing to our military, our men and women who believed they were defending our country. If nothing else I hope sales of the book Hubris sky rockets and is seen everywhere, people see others reading it and buy it to find out what Shrub and gang was doing.
What kind of question is that, especially with the all caps? Stein is a colossal arse. If congress aren’t doing their jobs,. or rather, actively trying to undo the job that our President is doing, what the hell should he do?
It’s important to say that today in the press briefing with Jay, there were a lot of questions asking if the President had reached out to republicans in Congress, what ‘my door is open” really means, etc. Those questions implied that he didn’t do enough . And then there is this tweet by Sam Stein. Is he joking or is he serious ??
They criticize the President for not getting involved, and they criticize him for getting too involved ??
LP2008, I think your “snarkometer” is in the Off position. :-)
He was making a funny! It was a tad off the mark, certainlysince everyone can’t tell right away, but that’s what it was.
My intention posting these two tweets in juxtaposition (w/ the assumption that Stein was being facetious) was this is what the MSM echo-chamber consists of presently. Blathering idiots, who cant make up their mind!
Hilarious! Tweety just asked Guy Cecil who orchestrated successful senate races in 2012 if PBO has to win both the Senate and the House to be considered a great President, you know, insure his legacy.
Also be able to leap tall buildings with a single bound.
News flash, Tweety—-PBO insured his greatness and legacy with the ACA. Something others had tried to do for 100 years.
The same guy who on 11-06-12, said that by the margin pres Obama won, he didn’t win a mandate. He repeated this nonsense for almost 3 weeks before he stopped saying it. Everything pres Obama does these days, Tweety would 1st come out with a negative then retreat later when the evidence is overwhelming.
We are seeing a theme developing, aren’t we ? Simpson or Bowles, or both, this morning, apparently said (paraphrasing) that the Obama presidency would be a failure if he didn’t solve the long term problems of entitlement programs.
In short, President Obama has to solve every damn problem in America or he won’t be considered a successful president.
Wow.
I wish there would be some individual, or a group of people, who would have the knowledge, the means and the time to make a video illustrating how the media has treated this president since the beginning. “He does too much”, “he doesn’t do enough”, “he is weak”, “he is too harsh”, “he compromises too much”, “he doesn’t compromise enough”, and on and on….. I wish there was a film made on how the media has held President Obama to a whole different standard than his predecessors. The CONSTANT negativity, the CONSTANT moving of the goal posts, the ‘damn if you do, damn if you don’t ” spin on every single problem… Gosh, they make me so mad.
It’s ridiculous what is asked of this man. History won’t be kind to the whole media apparatus.
not to mention that pbo is not doing enough in the middle east, in africa, in asia, etc. they’re not looking for a great president; they’re looking for the second coming of christ.
Seems to me they were starting up the premise early on that PBO was the “anti-Christ,” until they realized they expect the anti-Christ to be white, like them. Gets confusin’ for those soulless wonders.
PBO is doing local news interviews again. San Francisco (I think) ABC News 7 crew tweeted about landing in DC for interview with the President. Not sure when it will take place or when it will air though.
The crew has landed!
We roll heavy in TV News!
In DC to interview President #Obama at the #WhiteHouse. pic.twitter.com/cTA98igd
I shudder to think of TV cameras decending upon my place in its current state (really, ever for that matter).
Besides, his luggage would not fit in my house (or garage). Bestie in transition got here first. There’s no more room in the inn. :-)
I tuned back in just in time to see this. You are more than welcome 99ts. I figure the Republicans are a joke…we need to acknowledge it now and then. :)
Chuck Todd essentially blamed President Obama for the sequester mess on NBC Nightly News. He said Congress is already unpopular, that Obama is really testing the public’s tolerance of his side of the story, that they will end up blaming Obama for the negative consequences. I cannot stand Chuck Todd. He has zero integrity. It is always so obvious that he holds a personal grudge against Obama.
I think they keep forgetting, the President can’t run again. Who cares if they blame him for the sequester…they blame him for everything already. Only a veto can stop Congress from fixing it.
You guys rock!!! I am in awe of the fierceness you have all displayed in the past few days which your quick responses calling out the lies and the B.S as well as the schooling you have provided with your informative links and wise commentary. A real guffaw for the ladies.
Subject: Switcheroo
A man was sick and tired
of going to work every day
while his wife stayed home.
He wanted her to see
what he went through so he prayed:
‘Dear Lord:
I go to work every day and put
in 8 hours while my wife
merely stays at home.
I want her to know what
I go through
So, please allow her body to
switch with mine for a day.
‘
God, in his infinite wisdom,
granted the man’s wish.
The next morning, sure enough,
the man awoke as a woman…
He arose, cooked breakfast
for his mate,
Awakened the kids,
Set out their school clothes,
Fed them breakfast,
Packed their lunches,
Drove them to school,
Came home and picked
up the dry cleaning,
Took it to the cleaners
And stopped at the bank
to make a deposit,
Went grocery shopping,
Then drove home to put
away the groceries,
Paid the bills and balanced
the check book.
He cleaned the cat’s litter box
and bathed the dog..
Then, it was already 1 P.M.
And he hurried to make the beds,
Do the laundry, vacuum,
Dust, And sweep and mop
the kitchen floor.
Ran to the school to pick up
the kids and got into an argument
with them on the way home.
Set out milk and cookies and
got the kids organized to do
their homework.
Then, set up the ironing board
and watched TV while he
did the ironing.
At 4:30 he began peeling
potatoes and washing
vegetables for salad,
breaded the pork chops
and snapped
fresh beans for supper.
After supper,
He cleaned the kitchen,
Ran the dishwasher,
Folded laundry,
Bathed the kids, And put
them to bed.
At 9 P.M. He was exhausted
and, though his daily chores
weren’t finished, he went to
bed where he was expected to
make love, which he managed
to get through without complaint.
The next morning, he awoke
and immediately knelt by the
bed and said: -
Lord, I don’t know what
I was thinking.
I was so wrong to envy my
wife’s being able to stay
home all day
Please, Oh! Please,
let us trade back.. Amen!’
The Lord, in his infinite wisdom, replied:
“My son, I feel you have
learned your lesson and
I will be happy to change
things back to the way
they were.
But you’ll have to wait
nine months, though.
You got pregnant last night”
A twist worthy of O. Henry!
Oh.My.God. Hilarious ending!
Don’t know if this works.
@CarolMaeWY MT @jeffzeleny AZ immigration townhall: Crowd turns on McCain. Former law enforcement official shouts, McCain says guy is jerk.
McCain might blow a gasket before his term ends.
;)
“Please proceed Senator” - Cindy McCain
From your keyboard to God’s ears!
This may (or may not) work
I hope they all threw shoes
Yay, incite a riot McDuffer, you are a total imbecile, let it shine!
I hope they all threw shoes too!
Yes, and I hope they were well aimed! McDingbat is way too old and constipated to duck as fast as that slippery little Weasel W did.!
Thanks.
PBO is doing local news interviews again. San Francisco (I think) ABC News 7 crew tweeted about landing in DC for interview with the President. Not sure when it will take place or when it will air though.
Wow! Just like that, I retweeted him, now he’s following me. :-)
I think you got it mixed up Dudette, looks like he about to traverse K2, the way he is packed! Must have a D.C. layover?
LOL! Sure looks like it!
LOL! You sure he’s not coming to your house Dudette??….That’s a lot of luggage just for an interview :-)
I shudder to think of TV cameras decending upon my place in its current state (really, ever for that matter).
Besides, his luggage would not fit in my house (or garage). Bestie in transition got here first. There’s no more room in the inn. :-)
Airs tonight 5PM and 6PM San Francisco time.
I think meta posted another cute tweet from him, with a photo of him and his producer, on the previous thread. He’s excited! Who wouldn’t be?!?!
Thanks, Dudette. I’ll tune and post video if available.
perfect!
I’m late to the party - and have to go out today - but after reading some of the last thread I wanted to say a big thanks to
FayPax - some of your posts today were spot on - and also had me ROFL. How the WHPC is the joke of the week

Uh, Chuck, No. No they won’t blame PBO. Country much smarter than you, Toadster.
Anytime Chuk Todd starts on this kind of nonsense. We should just twitter bomb him with “enthusiasm gap.”
Great Idea, Cman!
Hey Chips here’s Tiger Interview about PBO Golf :-)
http://www.pgatour.com/video.html/2013/02/19/woods-interview-before-accenture
Woohoo! Go Kasai! We are such a phenomonal team here at TOD!
Yes we are Dudette:-)…If someone ask..I have to hunt down the whole internet to find it…LOL!!
I noticed how professional the interviewer was..He waited til the last minute to ask about PBO…
Yep, that’s a pro. Unlike the whiny paparazzi who call themselves the WHPC.
My favorite part is when he said “Mr. President” was just a wonderful person to be around.
Confirming what we all know.
Yep! :-)
SIAP.

TeaM TOD is on a roll! :-)
Good work, Meta.
Thanks, guys! I love Tiger’s statement. It’s simple, respectful and honest.
Just stopping in to say “hello.”
You guys rock!!! I am in awe of the fierceness you have all displayed in the past few days which your quick responses calling out the lies and the B.S as well as the schooling you have provided with your informative links and wise commentary. You are warriors in the cause of justice. Thanks for all that you do.
Reverend Al said PBO had better taste with Tiger as a golf partner than when he played with Boner. The Reverend speaks the truth.
Hard to believe these questions actually came from parents, not the NRA lobbyists!
Just so it’s clear:
Note the graphic on the NYT article.
Hiya Dr. Bob! Nice to see ya! :-)
I adore Dr. Maya Angelou. Rev Al just had a delightful interview w/ her. Hope you can watch it, nod yr head & simply smile!
