Of course, they deserve a vote. The problem is that many of the people who are voting have already sold their souls to the devil that is the NRA and its lobbying organizations.

What the GOP and the media have never understood is that the more they try to hurt our president, the more we love him. They don’t get the commitment we all made to him and they never will. That kind of loyalty, love and respect is beyond their understanding. When you deal in hate and prejudice that’s all you know.

that’s not hyperbole to me either, bob. perhaps the greatest threat america has ever faced, since it’s from within, and those same people control the majority of the message machine (i.e. the mainstream media). forward!!!

Yes, Bob, and it isn’t a battle that one election can win. We have to keep on fighting every day, win election after election, no matter how small the office, OWN alternative media and keep reaching wider and wider audiences. We’re the advance guard in this war, but the troops-the young people, our relentlessly growing diverse population-are right behind us. Our task is to constantly alert them to the danger so they never, never fall asleep on the watch.

Good morning, Chips. And any night owls/ early birds who are up…..

I could not sleep and now I know why. I needed to come here and I am so glad that I did. What beautiful videos posted at the top!
I will use this quiet time to pray for the families whose hearts are still heavy. My heart aches for them not being able to tuck their little ones in bed last night, kiss their foreheads, read to them a bedtime story…….just tell them I love you while giving them a hug.

Thank you, Chips for keeping the candles lit in their memories. It helps to keep us at our posts to fight alongside our President to bring about some significant changes to save more lives from these senseless shootings.
God bless their families and Gabby Gifford for all of her efforts.
Have a great peaceful day everyone!

By JENNIFER EPSTEIN | 2/20/13 6:00 AM EST
President Obama will sit for interviews with eight local reporters on Wednesday, as he continues to ratchet up his pressure on lawmakers to take action to prevent automatic spending cuts from taking effect on March 1.

“The president will take the case directly to the American people in markets across the country about how their leaders in Congress must act to protect our nation from a self-inflicted wound that would hurt our recovery and the middle class,” the White House said in a statement.

Picking up where he left off Tuesday with a brief speech delivered with first responders joining him on stage, Obama “will make clear that the only reason that these devastating cuts would hit is if congressional Republicans choose to protect loopholes that benefit the wealthy and big corporations rather than compromise to reduce the deficit in balanced way and protect American families.”

The White House sees the interviews as an effective way to reach people across the country who don’t pay much attention to national news but who do keep up with what’s happening in their hometowns. It’s a strategy the White House used throughout the presidential campaign and also employed in December as Obama rallied Americans to support him and to push Republicans to act as the fiscal cliff loomed.

The interviews also come at a time of tension between the White House and the beat reporters who cover the administration, as some in the press argue that the president pays too little attention to the news organizations and journalists who put large amounts of time and money into covering him.

The White House has not yet provided a list of the outlets that will be interviewing the president, but some stations and reporters have posted online about their planned interviews. Among them: KGO, the ABC affiliate in San Francisco; KITV, the ABC affiliate in Honolulu; and KFOR, the NBC affiliate in Oklahoma City. The Honolulu interview will be conducted by Yunji de Nies, who previously covered the Obama and Bush White Houses for ABC News.

In addition to focusing on local issues that will be hurt by the sequester — as some lawmakers have begun to do — Obama will speak broadly about his view that “congressional Democrats have put forward a balanced proposal to avert these automatic budget cuts and allow both sides to work on a long-term plan to get us on a fiscally sustainable path” and that Republicans should go along with it, the White House said.

Obama will also offer details on his “plan to put Americans back on the job building the infrastructure American business and workers need to compete in the global economy,” including throughn the Fix it First and Partnership to Rebuild America programs outlined in his State of the Union address.

The president will also “announce a plan to cut federal review and permitting timelines for construction projects such as highways, bridges, railways, ports, waterways, pipelines, and renewable energy. In talking with local anchors, he will also have the opportunity to discuss specific, important projects in their communities that stand to benefit from these initiatives,” the White House said.

He is getting pushback on the 2nd Amendment. So, he is trying to address that, and at the same time trying to console the Hunters. A shotgun is the gun of choice for Hunters.

He changes his words like I change my clothes - for John McCain what he said yesterday has no bearing on today. I can see him voting against immigration reform as he voted against Sen Hagel (apologies for having his name incorrect above).

He has become more inflamed than Palin since he lost to President Obama - and why the press think he is god’s gift to round table discussions is beyond comprehension.

I think he may not run again desertflower - 4 more years may be all your state can take - for wildly different reasons (given he seems to have upset the right, the left and the middle)

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/02/20/the-powerpoint-that-proves-it-s-not-obama-s-sequester-after-all.html

I happened to come across an old email that throws cold water on House Republicans’ attempts to call this “Obama’s Sequester.”

It’s a PowerPoint presentation that Boehner’s office developed with the Republican Policy Committee and sent out to the Capitol Hill GOP on July 31, 2011. Intended to explain the outline of the proposed debt deal, the presentation is titled: “Two Step Approach to Hold President Obama Accountable.”

It’s essentially an internal sales document from the old dealmaker Boehner to his unruly and often unreasonable Tea Party cohort. But it’s clear as day in the presentation that “sequestration” was considered a cudgel to guarantee a reduction in federal spending—the conservatives’ necessary condition for not having America default on its obligations.

The presentation lays out the deal in clear terms, describing the spending backstop as “automatic across-the-board cuts (‘sequestration’). Same mechanism used in 1997 Balanced Budget Agreement.”

Poor little lying fuckers…this is what happens when all you do is lie. You can’t remember the last one you told, or what it was….so the lies just keep piling on!

That op ed got a mention - and a blast from Jay Carney - at the WH press briefing yesterday. He called out Ed Henry a couple of times “you were here - you know that is not correct Ed” - for carrying the water for the GOP.

    • 60 Lovepolitics2008
      February 20, 2025 at 9:35 am

I fantasize that the President himself would come into the press briefing room and present a little video showing Boehner bragging that he got “98% of what he wanted”. It would make news. The media WON’T confront Boehner with his past quotes, but if the President showed Boehner on video, the media WOULD show it over and over again.

Anyone else following the Oscar Pistorius murder investigation? It will be interesting to see if there is a different justice for the rich and famous in South Africa. Pistorius’ version of events does not make sense and is disputed by neighbors who heard fighting and gunshots that night. I see one of the lawyers Pistorius has added to his “dream team” is someone who got a defendant off a murder charge of Nelson Mandela’s grandchild.

Please explain to me why one’s first thought upon waking up and hearing a noise in the bathroom is that it is NOT coming from the person you’re sharing a bed with.

    • February 20, 2025 at 9:15 am

Fascinated by the case Dotster, intrigued too to see if his wealth and fame will get him off - the evidence seems to be overwhelming. But, apparently, there are no juries in South African trials, so maybe the judge will see through the ‘dream team’ nonsense? We’ll see.

My question is why are you going to go shooting through a bathroom door and you have no idea what are who you are shooting at? Seem to me you hear a noise, your first response is to make sure your girlfriend is lying next to you.

        • February 20, 2025 at 9:48 am

It’s a bizarre defense from his team, but I suppose it’s impossible for them to come up with anything else. What sounds convincing to me are the reports that say she was hiding in the locked bathroom from him, during the row the neighbors heard, and in his rage he shot through the door. If he gets off it will be astonishing.

Folks, I’m getting concerned about the sequester battle. Republicans don’t seem that nervous about letting the sequester take effect. Like someone else said in a previous thread, it’s surprising that Wall Street and the defense contractors are not putting pressure on the republicans …
I’be done some thinking… What if the republicans intend to let the sequester take effect, and right after this, make some sort of proposition where they put back in the budget the spending THEY like, like defense spending, and maybe a couple of other items. I don’t think democrats will have much leverage because they won’t want to be seen as hurting national security. And frankly, the defense cuts in the sequester ARE too drastic and some of those cuts must be avoided.

On the other hand, republicans don’t give a damn about cuts to social programs, to government programs, about people losing jobs. They have deluded themselves into thinking that drastic government spending will help improve the economy.

The more I think of it, the more I’m sure that republicans intend to let the sequester happen and then put back the defense spending in the budget. And they’ve talked to the defense contractors and Wall Street about this. That’s why those guys are not putting pressure on republicans. They’ve been promised that they will NOT get hurt.

I worry that since senate democrats won’t want to say no to bringing back defense spending in the budget, they won’t have much leverage in negotiations after the sequester takes effect.
