Early in the day I feel as if I’m nearly there… It’s after I do all those ‘things which must be done’ that I go backwards a bit. Luckily, my new name does bring me an added dimension I had hitherto been unable to consider! Hmmmm, I suspect a connection here…. Off to clean the birdbaths! Lots of lovely pollen coating everything here each morning, lots of hosing everything off required! BBL, hope CanadaBarb4Obama gets that picture of BO and Bo, coz I want to see it too! That would require it stop being winter in Chicago. Outside of my office, we’re getting the first daffodils. I never remember it being this late.
It’s 41 degrees here.
It’s all the way up to 44 degrees, here in River City south of you. And I also have first daffodils in my yard, go figure. And last night the weather man said “rain turning into snow.” Me no likey!
No joke! I was snowing all afternoon today in beautiful downtown Michigan.

As we got ready to leave school and I was telling the students they had to wear their coats, they said “But it’s Spring!” and I said “But it’s Snowing”, to which they replied “But it’s Spring! How can it snow in Spring?” I just shook my head and thought “You poor innocent foolish babies. You’re living in MICHIGAN!!!” I had this conversation approximately 15 times in 10 minutes.
Oh, that is SO funny! Snow, snow, go away, do not come back for another day - NEXT YEAR!

I shall wish for 75-degree temperatures under sunny skies for both of us, and no precipitation for at least a week, starting tomorrow! Or at least IN THIS CENTURY.

That has been the lesson all these weeks, 57, and a steady learning curve it has been. There is a tussle for High Priority, and those nesting pairs of birds are way up there. If you knew me, you would be quite proud of all I am letting slide by, tho you might think I am a rather messy housekeeper! :oops:
It’s an important life lesson to put your wellbeing and health ahead of a dust mop. It’s tough, I know, but a lesson well-learned.

That made me smile, bein’ part Irish, with O’Malleys in my family, to see yet another Irish-American run for President. Some of our immigrant ancestors, of course, came to this country seeing “Irish Need Not Apply signs” waiting for them. Only takes a century or two for us to change our ways.

Both PBO and Joe, in remarkably different ways, are able to touch the souls of mourners. I am unable to watch, but in my mind’s eye, I can easily see and hear Joe say those words. I know what his tone of voice is, the expression on his face, the gestures.
And to think of the pain Joe has been through in his life, no wonder he has so much empathy for people who suffer unimaginable losses.
I too love him, love him. What compassion, warmth. I can’t put into words the depth of feeling I have for our Vice-President and how important he has been to our President, and therefore, to us. He is one of a kind.
I will watch our VP’s remarks again from the memorial, to take it all in, but I think when he was quoting an Irish poet, he said something like, “I don’t quote Irish poets because I’m Irish; I quote them because they are the best poets.” Some of their poems are clearly the best, especially when it comes to pain and loss and - the bigger one - love for each other.
WASHINGTON — Senate Democrats are delaying a confirmation vote on Labor Secretary nominee Thomas Perez after Republicans threatened to use a separate hearing to criticize his handling of a whistleblower case.
A vote in the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee that had been set for Thursday has been pushed back to May 8.
Committee Chairman Tom Harkin of Iowa says he was concerned that Republicans would use the separate hearing to attack Perez when he would not be present to defend himself. Harkin canceled the other hearing on whistleblowers, which also was set for Thursday.
Republicans have criticized Perez for declining to intervene in a whistleblower case while he was at the Justice Department. They claim the decision was based on political ideology and not the merits of the case.
The Republicans are really racking it up, aren’t they, Linda. If they mess up on immigration and turn the Perez nomination into a witch hunt, they are going to royally P.O. Latinos and other immigrant group. I almost want them to try it, but it wouldn’t be fair to Perez.

At this moment, the House is busy trying to introduce a bill to get rid of funding for pre-existing conditions. The Republicans have a mental condition.
I’m sick to death of students of ‘history’ who think Johnson, JFK, Lincoln, FDR or anyone else could have done better than PBO. There is no period in American history that remotely comes close to this Republican Congress.
Yes, that mental condition of Republicans has been a long-time-coming pre-existing condition.
Somebody make them go away.
They should have to go out and purchase health insurance under the same conditions as the average person. Since they don’t have to worry about things like that, they could care less about how the bills they introduce will impact most citizens. I’d bet the “47%” doesn’t even register on their radars.
In many ways, Chris Cuomo, who’s now with CNN, takes on all of the “good traits” of his dad (his brother Andrew has less, from my POV). I’m no longer much of a fan of his dad, but I used to think he was really special, pre-President Obama’s “reign of terror.” Hope Chris doesn’t let himself down with any bashing of our wonderful President!

What is C. Cuomo bashing POTUS about? I don’t recall him ever doing it before, could it be he’s on CNN now.
No - Not Chris. I have not heard him criticize PBO - I’m just trying to be preemptive (as if he cares)! His dad Mario Cuomo is a big Clinton supporter, and I’ve heard him “criticize” President Obama in the past. I like Andrew Cuomo as well as Chris, but Andrew’s not as calm and charismatic as Chris - strictly from my perspective.
I think I may have to sit down, now that she’s confirmed. Wow. Another confirmation. What’s that for the year? A handful?
Several people have said that putting gun control on the back burner is bad. My thinking is different. Any Senator who changed his mind right now and voted for gun control would be in big trouble with the base, which has long memories. I would like to see it kept in front of the public and then reintroduced next summer. One of two things will happen:
1. The vote will be basically the same which, based upon what we are seeing, will really put those who vote against it in trouble, even in red states. Specially since it will still be frersh in people’s minds.
2. Many of the GOP Senators who voted against will vote for, seeing the backlash and wanting to avoid it. That gets it based, which is good, but also puts those running for reelection in a vulnerable spot. They have pissed off their base, possibly losing votes, and the Dem candidate can say it is just pandering to get elected and bring up the earlier no vote and say that is where the GOP Senator really stands.
It could then result in even better legislation than this last bill was.
