Edward Snowden is now out of his limbo at Moscow’s airport, presumably ensconced in some Russian dacha, wondering what the next phase of his young life will bring. Having spent 30 years in the intelligence business, I fervently hope the food is lousy, the winter is cold, and the Internet access is awful. But I worry less about what happens to this one man and more about the damage Snowden has done — and could still do — to America’s long-term ability to strike the right balance between privacy and security.

Well Yardarm, you have done the impossible with your find (how do you guys stumble on to these things?). I don’t like opera, I didn’t understand a word she was saying, yet I actually LISTENED TO THAT THREE TIMES!!! Wow!
She’s amazing, yardarm. I hope some excellent opera company was listening and auditions her. She has a big future in front of her with the right breaks.
Yardarm, beautiful young lady and voice. What a beautiful gem you found for us. Wow!! She is superb!!! She is singing an Aria from Puccini’s beautiful Opera Turandot. Some of the words:

This is to the best of my rememberance. This was one of eight songs that I had to sing for my final’s recital for my voice class in college. I was not good at all in Italian and will never sing it again because the language is so lovely. I refuse to mess it up. So my voice teacher allowed me to sing part of it in English. I am old, but this is one of my favorites to this day . I love to put the recordings by Pavarotti, Carreras, and Bocelli, and Leontyne Price and can listen to them all day.
Yardarm, remember Leontyne Price’s hair? We will sing to the music angel to let the notes rise through that beautiful young lady’s head and glow in her beautiful hair. For the record, my hair was just like this lovely young girl when I was 19 and in a college where ironing the my hair was like a seasonal ticket to my dorm room for lessons. Lots of loving memories even then. It made me even stronger. I graced my grandmother’s hair and my beautiful precious mother’s even through singing Puccini. Mr. Yardarm ~ thank you very much for posting this for us. It has turned me into a basket case all afternoon, but I am grateful for that. According to the 2010 American Community Survey (ACS), one in 10 of the nation’s 12.5 million nonelderly veterans reports neither having health insurance coverage nor using Veterans Affairs (VA) health care. While veterans are less likely than the rest of the nonelderly population to be uninsured, there are an estimated 1.3 million uninsured veterans nationwide. Another 0.9 million veterans use VA care, but have no other health insurance coverage. An additional 0.9 million adults and children in veterans’ families are uninsured. Both uninsured veterans and their family members report significantly less access to needed health care than their counterparts with insurance coverage. Compared with insured veterans, uninsured veterans have served more recently, are younger, have lower levels of education, are less likely to be married, and are less connected to the labor force—all of which could contribute to lower access to employer-sponsored coverage. Uninsurance among veterans ranges widely across states—from under 5 percent to over 17 percent—and state variation remains even when adjusting forveterans’ demographic and socioeconomic characteristics. States also vary in levels of uninsurance among veterans’ family members.

It’s a sunny day. Well, we’re led to believe it’s sunny. The pollution is so thick that sans your glasses and their auto day/night vision setting, you can’t actually tell if its day or night. Without any EPA regulations to get in our way, air quality is now measured in how many fingers you can make out in front of your face. Telling day from night requires you to carry a watch, illuminated with radioactive waste from one of the unregulated fracking polluted lakes or discarded nuclear waste from processing runoffs. It’s cheap because there’s such an abundance of it. But the good news is it’s free. Just run tap water over the watch, assuming you have a tap to use, and it’ll glow for hundreds of years.

Maryl, forget the corner. This is exactly the problem I’ve been having lately, and quite regularly too. I haven’t a clue what it’s all about so often time I’ll wander away or read for a bit then return. It’s very frustrating because it hinders the flow of the conversation. Sometimes I wish I was able to hold WordP by the shoulders, look ’em in the eyes and say ‘Smarten up!’
Every time I think we’ve seen the lowest of the low in Obama hate, it gets uglier. This is unbelievable—-at the Mo. State Fair—-a bull riding event—-a clown with an Obama mask——announcer asks the crowd “Do you want to see Obama get run down by a bull?” Crowd goes wild, hooting and hollering ——and absolutely shameful “hilarity” ensues. Beyond pitiful and vile.
There are some white people who just believe that a black man should know his place, and these people believe that the White House is not that place. Ad no thanks dotster3 I don’t want to read or see anything about this evil.
in the G.W. Bush years, my question would have been do you think that G.W. Bush should be President? I wouldn’t have said anything about hurting G.W., like a bull running him down.
In America…it seems to be ok to exhibit racist notions…but when these notions spill lover ….they have tragic consequences….STOP AND FRISK, the Killing of Trayvon Martin….and when they are on the Supreme Court they strike down a tenant of the VRA…and when they are in Congress….they say that they are against Immigration Reform because all the immigrants are drug smugglers…
the only saving grace in all this is The Obama Coalition which was able to come together and re-elect our beloved President….but as PBO says there is so much more work to do….
Donna, Happy Birthday and many, many more!
What lovely day to celebrate your birthday.
The sun is setting in NYC and it is still a lovely day.

Obama rodeo clown at Missouri state fair draws protest
“I felt like I was at a Klan rally,” Missouri State Fair goer Perry Beam told Raw Story, his outrage stoked by watching a rodeo crowd whoop and holler at a clown wearing an Obama mask while an announcer asked “Who wants to see Obama get trampled?” this weekend.
The fair – which is established by the Missouri Legislature – is formally a nonpartisan event. “This isn’t a Republican state fair,” Beam said. “I want to write the governor and the fair board, because I want my money back. This was shameful.”
A call to a spokesman for the fair has yet to be returned. The rodeo at the fair is produced by the Missouri Rodeo Cowboy Association, which also has not yet returned a call seeking comment……
WATCH: President Obama Can Finally Defend Obamacare
By Jason Sattler
————————————————-
Salon‘s Brian Beulter explains how the president can finally make his signature legislative accomplishment a “weapon:”
Uninsurance rates are about to drop quickly. “Repeal” will soon take on a much different meaning. So it’s no coincidence that just as time begins running out for Obamacare’s opponents, Obama himself is suddenly more comfortable turning the issue on them. The ground is shifting under their feet.
It’s this shift in advantage to the president that’s fueling the effort to defund Obamacare that some Republicans are willing to pursue despite the potential political costs – because telling tens of millions of people you’re taking away their health care is much harder than pretending to repeal something 40 percent of Americans aren’t sure is actually a law.
//
U.S. President Barack Obama and Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras have given optimistic outlook over the stalled talks in the divided island of Cyprus.
“There’s a great opportunity as we speak for the decades-long conflict and tensions that exist in Cyprus to be resolved, and I think we’re both encouraged by the messages that have been coming out of the Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities. And we’re going to be I think working very closely together to see if we can make progress on those fronts,” Obama said after meeting with Samaras at the White House on Aug. 8.
…//
The next few months does represents one of those rare windows of opportunity to reach agreement on Cyprus. http://t.co/Txvkrue20s
Few earn that minimum - most get more. (unless under 21, younger ones are paid less). Different states (like US) have different rates - the $16 is the lowest. Used to be extra pay for weekend and holiday work - I think it is now only sundays & holidays. My daughter worked checkouts when a student - used to get double time - sometimes 2.5 time for holidays - loved it! Most employees also receive 9% employee contribution to retirement fund (superannuation). health care is not covered as that is single payer (1.5% tax levy)
The stores do - however - try all they can to avoid paid breaks - common trick 3 and 4 hour shifts - not good if you have a long distance to travel to work. They also recently lost an attempt to remove the Sunday/holiday extra pay - good.
I’m not having much luck finding the current award rates online. $16 seems low - my daughter was getting $18 an hour about 7-8 years ago.
Our MSM has only 2016 on the brain. Can someone clue them in that a lot can happen between now and then, and no one is gonna say, boy that event in 2013 sure was a game-changer!

Part of our current condition is obviously partisan. Republicans have become the party of “blame the victim.” Whatever your lesser lot in life, it’s completely within your means to correct, according to their logic. Poverty, hunger, homelessness and desperation aren’t violence to the spirit but motivation to the will. If you want more and you work harder, all your problems will disappear. Sink or swim. Pull yourself up. Get over it. Of course, that narrow conservative doctrine denies a broader reality: that there are working poor and chronically unemployed — people who do want and who do work and who do want to work, but who remain stuck on the lowest rungs of the economic ladder.
In this regard, Republicans have all but abandoned the idea of compassionate conservatism and are diving headlong into callous conservatism.

Post it all night if ya want! :)
You staying up to
drool overwatch it all night, JO’B?Could be.
Do I have to answer that question?
(And how are you doing this evening, VC?)
I is fine, JO’B, and your question is answer enough.
Ladies, Ladies, let’s just admit we’ll all be postponing our bedtime a bit tonight.
Not me! I don’t share well, so I stay away from the naughty mat. I don’t want to be tempted to poke anyone in the side with an (accidental) elbow.
great idea!
Well, I was thinking it wasn’t the *worst* thing I could have posted three times! ;)
Amen to that! :-)
Happy Birthday Donna ~ I hope you’ve had a wonderful day :)

Pres. Obama with his niece. The cutest!
Happy and blessed birthday to you, donna.
Mine is coming up soon. :)

I know Anniebella….I know how you feel…
In America…it seems to be ok to exhibit racist notions…but when these notions spill lover ….they have tragic consequences….STOP AND FRISK, the Killing of Trayvon Martin….and when they are on the Supreme Court they strike down a tenant of the VRA…and when they are in Congress….they say that they are against Immigration Reform because all the immigrants are drug smugglers…
the only saving grace in all this is The Obama Coalition which was able to come together and re-elect our beloved President….but as PBO says there is so much more work to do….
Forward>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Sorry Dotster I did not see this before I posted the same story below. Chips can feel free to remove my post. :)
Donna, Happy Birthday and many, many more!
What lovely day to celebrate your birthday.
The sun is setting in NYC and it is still a lovely day.
Happy Birthday!

I bet there was a real ethnic mix in attendance too.
I would suggest emailing the Missouri Rodeo Cowboy Association and demanding an explanation of this hateful incident.

Disagree with what the President stand for, his policies, but when you start talking about harming him you have gone to dam far.
Yes Indeed, Annibella! This is just too much.
As #NEWSTAINERS whimper about vacation days, these are the scores that really matter ….
So much fun with so many TODers having overlapping Birthday Weeks :)
I’m liking this woman more and more with everything she does. She is a formidable candidate.
I am liking this lady! She seems ready to take the fight to the “Turtleman.” Democrats must invest everything they can to topple the “Turtleman.”
THE GROUND IS SHIFTING UNDER THEIR FEET.

President Obama has been defending Obamacare ever since he signed it into law.
New post in a bit!
Thanks, Chips!
A long bit, or a short bit? Do I have time to go get a snack or should I just say put? An ‘ish’ bit, or a bit-ish? This enquiring mind wants to know.

Minimum wage for fast food workers in Australia is $16. Dollar for dollar that’s quite a difference!
http://truth-out.org/video/item/18106-australia-has-16-minimum-wage-and-is-the-only-rich-country-to-dodge-the-global-recession
Yeah, I saw this (different article) in my Twitter timeline today.
Was hoping that 99ts or Bernyp would weigh in on this.
I’ll send Berny a tweet, don’t think 99ts is a Twitter user.
The man interviewed made a good point - US doesn’t research well on issues like these.
Happy Birthday to Donna dem! Hope you are having a great day!
Posted yesterday, if you missed it:
This is actually pretty funny:
Our MSM has only 2016 on the brain. Can someone clue them in that a lot can happen between now and then, and no one is gonna say, boy that event in 2013 sure was a game-changer!
Sorry, posted wrong tweet here. Instead of Sweden (LOL) should be CNN and Biden. As Rick Perry would say, “Oops.”
Here’s another tweet about VP Biden at the Iowa Steak Fry Sep 15. This one includes link to a video of Biden in 2007:

New post!
