      Hello Vetivera,

I was just going to invite people to tune it to Maddow’s first segment. Right on point.

The GOP is simply crazy. Put yourself in their shoes: there are still over 30 months of BARACK OBAMA. While this news saddens TODVille inhabitants, the right wing cannot take it any longer. Yet they must. Regardless their fake Occupation American Spring at the WH, they have to see this President day in day out, conducting his business, using his executive power, conducting foreign policy à la Obama doctrine, ending wars, passing carbon emission restrictions, etc. They are simply mad. They cannot take it anymore.

We can help them by moving them out of Washington and back to wherever it is they came from.

As the daughter and wife of soldiers I am appalled at the insensitive narrow minded bigots who make headlines. Can people really stand to watch them? And John McCain, a previous hotdog shot down, 5 years in prison, leading the chorus. Just Wow! What kind of man is that? He should be the most sympathetic.

    GE TOD:

Officials with the Marine Corps military working dog program are looking to find homes for all the service’s improvised explosive device-sniffing dogs as the Corps’ requirement for these highly trained animals draws to a close. The Marines developed a capability for IED detection dogs, or IDDs, in response to an urgent need in 2004, when hidden explosives emerged as a major threat in Iraq and Afghanistan. Unlike other Marine military working dogs, that trained and deploy with military police handlers, IDDs were trained to deploy with infantrymen and Marines in other combat specialties, who would complete a lean five-week training program with their assigned dog before heading downrange….

With the end of the IDD capability, the Yuma dog-training facility is also facing closure, Childress said. But he’s working to keep it going by repurposing it as an advanced training site for working dog teams that would be able to provide security for high-profile U.S. officials or deploy for missions anywhere in the world. The training program he envisions, he said, would include a course on advanced first aid for dogs, teaching handlers how to perform triage, conduct canine CPR, insert IVs and more.

Meanwhile, Childress said he is advertising with law enforcement agencies to try to find new work for the remaining IDDs. So far, he said, 200 of the dogs have found new work at the joint Defense Department military working dog training facility at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, while another 150 or 200 have been adopted by regional police departments and law enforcement agencies. Private individuals can also apply to adopt a dog, though officials with the MWD program often make judgment calls on whether a household is right for, say, a Belgian malinois trained in aggression tactics. Childress said the troops who work with the dogs get the first opportunity to take them home for good…..

I read this - and noting these words -

“Private individuals can also apply to adopt a dog, though officials with the MWD program often make judgment calls on whether a household is right for, say, a Belgian malinois trained in aggression tactics”

wonder why returning veterans are simply discharged to survive in a country where the GOP hate on their physical/emotional needs and refuse to provide resources that would help them rejoin a world without war.

A link to the legal rationale included via the Lawfare Blog:

A former Bush administration official broke with Republicans on Tuesday to defend President Obama’s prisoner exchange, arguing that since “the war in Afghanistan is winding down,” the United States would be required to return prisoners held at Guantanamo Bay back to Afghanistan. “I don’t see how these particular Taliban officials could ever have been tried in the southern district of New York,” John Bellinger, who served as an adviser to President George W. Bush explained during an appearance on Fox News Tuesday. “They’re certainly some Al Qaeda detainees who committed actual terrorist acts against Americans who perhaps could have been tried in a federal court because they committed federal crimes, but these particular Taliban detainees I think could never have been tried in federal court.” Although some of the released prisoners posed a danger to the United States when they were captured in 2002, especially toward soldiers serving in Afghanistan, several of the detainees did not commit crimes against Americans.

…Though Cheney told Fox News on Monday that he would not have agreed to the deal, Bellinger stressed that the Bush administration “returned something like 500 detainees from Guantanamo.” Statistics from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence show that only 6 percent (5 in total) of Guantanamo detainees released during the Obama administration have potentially engaged in militant activities. That compares with a rate of nearly 30 percent under the Bush administration.

“I’m not saying this is clearly an easy choice but frankly I think a Republican, a president of either party, Republican or Democratic confronted with this opportunity to get back Sgt. Bergdahl, who is apparently in failing health, would have taken this opportunity to do this,” he added. “I think we would have made the same decision in the Bush administration.”….

As for Zimmerman that was for the guy that tried to talk about the geneva code saying soldiers that desert and get caught by the enemy are innocent till proving guilty. I used that to explain the way that most people think after a U.S. court of law found him innocent yet i was after everyone had made their own false accusations and felt they had a right to convict him before trial but that was ok because libs believed it . Also for the simple fact to prove the way the media takes certain stories and fabricates them the way they feel fit .And shoves byist storries down americas throat. Can any one in here pls send me a link to the bengzhi or fast and furious investigations. Pls do i would like to be proved wrong . But most likely you cant because there not public and something is being hidden and the democratic obama drones are too blind to see.I truly have considered my self a moderate for sometime but the stuff that happens around me is just too much for me to ignore and take as true

    A Personal Commentary

I keep reading the posts and some are saying that one should not get upset, trust Barack. Others are saying; this is nothing it will pass, vote don’t cry, and others are saying, some of us are letting this get to us.

For me, I can’t speak for anyone else here; this is personal in many ways because I have seen this ugliness and hatred as a black woman growing up in the south. I know what this ugly hatred stems from, and it is for one reason only; President Obama is a black man, holding the highest office in the land, occupying the “White House” that the white man has always occupied.

This is the “primary reason” for the hate against President Obama.

I understand that the repukes are going to always make noise but this noise has a way of swaying people who are not knowledgeable about the “facts.” Everyone doesn’t come to TOD to get the truth, they rely on the so call news.

I complain and get upset, and yes I have cried and voted, but I see the injustice of the treatment of this family day in and day out. This doesn’t happen because he has done wrong, it happens because of their hatred for a “black man” who, in their sick warped mind, has taken over their “HOUSE” and “THEIR COUNTRY.” I am upset because again today, I walked in to get groceries, only to see “again” how Mrs. Obama is on the cover of the Enquirer being depicted as the “ANGRY BLACK WOMAN.” I have seen pictures of this shit for 6 weeks straight now, and I am hurt as a black woman and I hurt because our First Family can’t get the respect that they deserve.

Yes, maybe this will blow over but it doesn’t lessen the pain that I feel for what President Obama has to endure from the likes of Feinstein and other Dems who do nothing but stab him in the back at every opportunity. I will vote again but it doesn’t stop my tears today. I trust Barack but it doesn’t soothe my heart from aching when I witness these attacks. I have no doubt that he hurts as well because he is human and he has heart like all of us.

I know the President is a winner but it doesn’t stop me from remembering what America has done to African Americans over the years because I have lived through it, felt it first hand, and know all too well that this is hatred because he is BLACK and they can’t deal with it.

I ask that we allow each other to feel our pain; allow each other to rant, and hurt, and cry because in the end we still support and love President Obama. I still trust him but it hurts to see this crap by the media, hear the lies and watch “some Dems” run as though he has the plague when he is doing everything to lift this country up, and some over privilege white men and women do nothing but seek to tear him down.

I am upset and I make no apologies but I will do what I do each night; pray that God will keep our First Family and bless President Obama indeed and give him victory over his enemies.

    God Bless America,

Every word you’ve written is important, Cindy. And i join with you in your request that we allow ourselves and each other the space to react to ugly events for which there are no quick fixes.
It’s no answer when we advise other people to turn off the TV. Or we attempt to reassure ourselves and TOD that this will blow over soon, as I did.

The massive insults to President Obama be shrugged off easily, even if that’s what The President himself might advise.

They know this, which makes them all the more enraged. We just all need to VOTE, get others to VOTE, and stand strong together. Change is not easy.

      June 3, 2025 at 10:13 pm

Cindy, you need no apologies for expressing real pain. Nobody can know what another person has gone through because we all walk in different paths, but all of us are hurt when our president is unfairly maligned for doing what is good and right. PBO learned from an early age to stay focused and, to the extent possible, let the slurs and the hatred roll over him. He has an uncanny ability to do this that most of us lack. All we can do is continue to show our love for him. Send a note through the White House. Support and defend him with friends. And make sure that as many people as possible vote in November. We have a lot of power and influence if we use it.

    • June 3, 2025 at 10:19 pm

Cindy - I apologize and feel bad that I posted quickly, earlier, something like “Don’t cry (or boo, as the President would say). Vote” in my cheerleading voice, and that it appeared targeted toward anyone and/or hurt you. I was awkwardly trying to stress the need for us to work through all of this, but - of course - we all realize that’s hard, individually hard, hard even among this faithful group here on TOD, and harder for some more than others for all kinds of reasons. I totally respect that, and apologize. Please don’t let anything I post affect you in a sad way. We all feel and grieve life’s experiences in a different way, and I’m glad you spoke out. Hang in there, and God bless America - and you.

Ever since you told your childhood story - I think of it whenever I read your posts. When talking the positive on events I certainly don’t mean to take anything from your feelings and appreciate what you share on TOD. Together with so many I have been awakened to racism like never before since Barack Obama became President and stories like yours have given me sadness for others that I have never felt before.

Some days I almost implode with what I hear/read from the Toads of the media - and have to return to the good that PBO is doing to keep my sanity. Take care of you & thank you for caring so much for others.

Take heart Cindy. You speak truth but take heart…something good is coming out of this. My children are between 10 and 14 and they are old enough to understand what this all means and the underlying cause. The thing is that they use the vitriol, hatred and willful ignorance that they see to fuel their own determination for success.

They look at our POTUS and take pride that in spite of it all he rises above it and goes about his daily work refreshed, with a genuine smile and gets the job done. My kids understand that the brilliance of this black man astounds them because it goes against the grain of what American society has been taught. They want to have the same opportunities as our POTUS and are working towards it. They all get straight As, have become critical thinkers, are aware of their world and their place in it.

My children know of our history but in POTUS they clearly see their own future. They have learned that they cannot control other folks hang ups, insecurities or preconceived notions but they do know they can control how they choose respond to it. They also know that they decide their level of success. The naysayers can sit on the sidelines and rage at the wind. They just have to get up and go about their daily work refreshed, with a smile and get the job done.

I am confident that my own children are not the only ones who have been impacted by this man. THAT is what folks are afraid of to the point where they go the extreme and embrace stupidity, see nothing wrong with babies playing with machine guns, celebrate traitors like Snowden who steal secrets from the country they profess to love putting folks in harms way and maligning our military men and women.

I see all this as a death knell. It is ugly and horrific to watch but it is necessary. This too shall pass.

It is a 1974 bridge - which to me - is not that old - sometimes I think the building standards of the 1930s were much higher than in later years. I also wonder about giving out govt contracts to the lowest bidder - we did that when we built our house and only after it was built did we realize what a stupid idea it was!

Repugs calling for presidential impeachment forget that PBO is a constitutional lawyer and he ain’t stupid. Is he ever going to act outside of the constitution? I just don’t see how.
