      Definition of decadence.

      Who thinks of these amenities?

      These kids will grow and *expect* ambience like this in their daily lives. Tis better to struggle a bit when you’re young and have the energy and gumption to bounce back.

      I’ll repeat myself — Koufax and Drysdale were raked over the coals for holding out for $100K each in 1963, I think, but definitely before free agency in the Andy Messersmith case in the mid-1970s (another Dodger, another fav). Koufax basically went along with Drysdale — there’s no way the Dodgers would have let their ace star sit out the season.

      $100K then is less than $1 million now.

      The cost and pampering of sports “stars” is out of hand, and contributes to the gap between the wealthy and everyone else.

      End of rant.

    as always, there will be a tomorrow - such is the nature of the circle of life;

    question : who will be proud or ashamed of the role they played during the events and why they chose to do what they did?

      Unfortunately, this is also why young kids like Rand Paul. Without realizing that the only reason for Paul being an isolationist ?
      He’s against the federal govt as a whole, which includes the US military.
      He believes States should be in charge of their own security.
      Imagine, China invades Florida and Governor Scott is supposed to defend florida??? :(

        August 3, 2025 at 8:28 pm

        Well, the thing is this is The Obama Diary, not the Rand Paul news, Jovie. If you look for it you can always find something negative and you can also find something positive.. I don’t know how things will turn out, but I do know I can make choices every moment of the day about where I put my attention and energy. President Obama talks about choosing hope. He keeps his focus on where he wants to go and I think that’s a great idea.

            Sorry about shoving my philosophy at you, Jovie. I have no patience for Rand Paul or the GOP. I should have gone on to other comments, I don’t often do this, it’s not necessary. As far as Hillary, I’ve never said a word about her, but I’ve seen others talk about her.. If she is the candidate I sure as heck will vote for her. Women are motivated to vote and prefer Democrats. She will pull in votes for Democrats all down the line. I want Democrats in charge.

        DF, I think your mom was right!

        I find ‘Birds’ to be even more terrifying on a visual, auditory and psychological level than Psycho..

        And the ending is even creepier - ZERO closure….UGH…

        Will give you my take on Rear Window next Sunday nite. Looking forward to seeing it! :)

    in honor of PBO’s 53rd birthday tomorrow August 4th, I am suggesting to my family/friends network to do at least one of these things:

    - donate $53, $8 (5+3), $5 or $3 to a democratic 2014 candidate or organization of their choice ;

    - register 8, 5, 3 new voters ;

    - remind people in their network to update their voter info;

    Getting into the Vineyard state of mind

    This coming Saturday the Obama family will do what they have always done in August since they moved into the White House - take a family vacation to Martha’s Vineyard. Conservative websites are gearing up as we speak to be outraged (outraged, I tell ya!!!) at the fact that the President and his family will soon be seen…

        :) The man DESERVES a break (so does Kerry)! I’ll be ecstatic if PBO gets to enjoy his entire vacation away from the world furor, but I’m doubtful he will.

          August 3, 2025 at 9:32 pm

          Couldn’t agree more, VC. It appears that SOS Kerry’s journey east will have him in Hawaii as the last stop. My hope is he stays for a few days!!! Little doubt that both of them will be occupied with significant issues, but at least they’ll be in quite pleasant places :)

            I like the sound of that! I’m a big believer in the fact that the body and mind need rest, even if you can’t sleep. ;)

            Re ‘significant issues’, I pity the fools who haven’t yet realized that no matter where PBO is he is never really ‘on vacation’.

    Critical reading ….

    #TrustBarack … because I have zero doubt he, long ago, thought through it all and, in part, it is why he has refused to give the Syrian opposition the weaponry that fools like McCain and Romney would have showered on them (to the delight of the arms merchants).

        Need I remind you that Israel has Nukes? If they really wanted to , they could eliminate Palestine.

          Come on, Jovie. Nothing serious about statements like that. Bibi’s nukes are of no use to him and he knows it. They are purely MAD (mutual assured destruction) deterrent.

          And, yes Jovie, you are witnessing a sustained effort by Bibi and Likud to eradicate the Palestinian people. Period.
