Did @nytimes conclude grown adults Robin Williams or Philip Seymour Hoffman “no angel” bc they ‘dabbled in drugs’? pic.twitter.com/b6wOWJkw6C

That @nytimes article on Michael Brown is disgraceful, and no, I’m not sharing it. Being “no angel” has nothing to do with why he is dead.

If only the urge to convict a dead black teenager were matched by an urge to investigate the officer who shot him six times.

You could muster a little graciousness, sir. I stumble into ‘first’ very seldom.
(Don’t hold your breath, 57)

Mooooooooorning 57, moooooooorning everyone!
GM Chips and everyone.
Morning COS, hope you had a great birthday!
Morning everyone!
Way to go, 57!

Here’s another link to livestream of the funeral.

Ugh… the media is swarming the Herse and Casket……
Glad to see so many people pointing out just how ridiculous that NYT’s “he’s no angel” article was…good.
They did this on the day of his funeral? stay classy, nyt.
I am Ecstatic to see the pushback the NYT is getting this morning, hf.
Ecstatic! They deserve to have the spotlight brightly shone on their day in and day out Pro Neo-Con anti-The American People agenda.
Not to mention the 24/7 Anti-PBO text and subtext.
The so-called paper-of record is Propaganda, propaganda, propaganda.
Am I emphatic enough?
Let’s get the New York Times straight, none of us including the person or persons responsible for that article are angels, that doesn’t mean that any of us deserve to be shot 6 times like an animal and lefted in the street for four hours with our brains coming out of our head. Michael Brown was no angel, who didn’t deserve what he got.
Michael Brown was no angel and he didn’t deserve what he got. Beside who ever said Brown was a angel. There are alot of white kids who are no angel either, but they aren’t gun down like Brown was.
Is Darrin Wilson a Angel?
AB, it is not up to the NYT or a cop on the beat to judge what someone is or is not and decide that person is not worthy of living out his life. Under no system in the world is a young man shot six times on the street because he is not “angelic.” As I said on an earlier thread, that statement by the NYT is so outrageous as to be obscene.
Good Monday morning everyone! Been so busy these last days, thank goodness for lurking! Hope everyone who had birthdays had wonderful days. I am sure Danny is exhausted from his extra exciting day.
That hit piece from the NYT on Michael Brown makes me sick. Where is the one on the police? It’s always the victims fault. Hope his folks are able to bury him in peace today.
Have a great day everyone.
LOL :)
Fuming about the NYT.
He might not have been an angel…who is….but we definitely know now that THEY aren’t a journalist!
aren’t a journalist with any ethics or integrity..shameful
desertflower, Last week in his rewrite Lawrence O’Donnell showed that the NYT was a piece of crap, seem to me I remember the same talk about Trayvon Martin. The NYT way of saying that these black teens deserve what they got.
I saw POTUS, FLOTUS and Malia, where was Sasha? I saw Malia with her tennis racket, I’m sure she and FLOTUS played alittle tennis. School starts next week for Sasha and Malia.
Good morning BFF and TOD.

Another livestream.
I have said that/asked that question for DAY ONE????????????? Glad to see it tweeted.
THIS
Oh, really don’t like this, today is about Michael Brown, not you Louis:
Morning TOD. I believe this is for security, as it often happens in our communities, and events of note. Mr. Farrakhan would be a welcome guest. Also too, recall that sick church said they would try to protest this service. NOI ain’t havin it today.
I’d prefer Farrakhan not to be there then, today is about Michael Brown.
Don’t have a problem with this, Chips. NOI being there tells folks there will be no foolishness accepted.
Just think it’s too much of a circus with them Rikyrah, but I’ve never been a Farrakhan fan.
Black folks do not see them as a circus. There is no trust in law enforcement. NOI being there does tell people that no nonsense will be allowed.
Fair enough, Rikyrah. I just hope Michael’s family are good with them being there, that’s the main thing. It’s just Farrakhan is so full of hate for so many groups, I can’t abide him.
Chipsticks, this is from a person who had a half-brother in the Nation of Islam and a brother who almost joined. The Nation may have some strange ideas-but what got them demonized wasn’t some of the negative things they said about whites/Jews. If all it did was that, such a group would have been ignored.
it was their early militancy and the work they did with returning prisoners and their advocacy of black self-defense and self-sufficiency. While I don’t agree with their theology, they do have a strong record of helping black people the system has given up on.
I’m not ignoring the negatives-the violent internal battles, the not very rational theology, the assassination of Malcolm X. But we’ve had a lot worse folks working in the community.
Hi Carol, I completely appreciate why people would be drawn to the NoI, especially in communities where they can’t trust the police, it’s just the hate spewed by Farrakhan that makes me loathe him as much as any other bigot. Some of the stuff he has said about Jews, for example, has been repulsive.
Meant to add Carol, I have seen other photos since the one I posted earlier where the captions say the NoI formed a line for the Brown family, not Farrakhan, so that’s a big difference.
Wow:
Good Morning, Everyone :)
Thank you TOD for your coverage.
Well, AMEN to that tweet. Don’t know if any of you saw my post from early this morning: rant to come. I do not have the great writing ability that many on here have, but I need to vent. Just a few minutes ago I hit “send” to the local NBC station regarding what my rant is about. It goes along with the NYT story of today. This happened last evening on our local news:
About midday through the 6 o’clock news, the anchor read a report about how much money had been raised (gave specific amount thus far), how many ‘likes’ his Facebook page and sentence or two about his support from all over the country. There was ONE statement about MB and that was to ‘report’ how much more money DW had raised than MB’s supporters had donated. As I pointed out in my email to the News Director, the money couldn’t be for MB because “HE’S DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!! To make this whole report even worse, at least from my view: The anchor is new to the station (really like him!) and he is a young AA man. I also pointed that out in my email….how sorry I felt for him having to read that report.
One of the things I focused on in the email is all the subliminial ‘reporting’/messaging we see/hear over and over and over. Suggested the “news” media may want to get back to the Who? What? When? Why? Where? How? …..report the FACTS and leave out the opinion and subliminial. Another thing I pointed out in the email is that freedom of speech is one thing and that’s it’s okay to disagree with someone. However, it is NEVER okay to dehumanize, delegetiminize, demean or marginalize that person. In that part of the email, I was telling him that I haven’t watched the Fox43 Show on Thursday’s all summer because that’s the day of Heavy Hitters panel. There’s an older guy that is allowed to spew his hate and fear and sometimes outright lie about PO and I could not watch one more time.
I suggested he Google Charles Bell story. Also asked if he had heard our AG’s stories about being a black man in this country. Also, closer to home, suggested he read from yesterday’s KNS: Smear campaigns nothing new for blacks in America. Written by a retired vp for equity and diversity at UT. I did point out that I am a 67 year-old white woman……said a lot more, but you get the gist.
Must get busy. Lots to do today. Love to you all!
Tn, this is very well stated. I’m grateful to you for writing and sending it. Great job.
This becomes a issue only when there is a blk person who is killed…
monsters jailed.
attempted jail break.
Aw, jailed for a crime they did not do!! (Unless they poo-pooed somewhere?)
they’re almost tt’ed. This just to make sure when they are sleeping, us humans don’t step on them.
:-) I’m still laughing at the second photo, the expression on his face!!
You’re doing an awesome job. I’m sending Kasper to you - see if you can work your housebreaking magic on him.
merciless waking you up every 3 hours when you are snoring kinda drives the point into your muttonheads.
You’ve never met the Force of Stubborn that is my Kasper. He knows what to do, when to do it and where to do it. He makes other choices when he feels like it.
But racism is dead. Right, SCOTUS?
So #MikeBrown was like a lot of teenage boys with spirit and energy. White, black, whatever.
Good morning, Chips, bts and TODers.
Sad day and then to wake up to this atrocity - I’m furious.
From the excerpts I read, really don’t need to read the full NYT article. As Darth said:
To Meta, LL, and Nerdy. I am so glad to see the huge outraged pushback on the NYTimes.
My hope is that this is the Jump-The-Shark moment for The Times when their hateful Neo-Con agenda is shown clearly.
When their hood is ripped back.
In other related news, The New Yorker magazine another 1% chronicle, has a revealing critical article on AIPAC. Perhaps the world is waking up to the threat to whatever tattered fringes of the American Dream still remain.
But but but John McCain sez…
Amazinggggggg….Simply Amazinggggggg
Took me so long to type my comment, hope it isn’t missed. :)
Outstanding comment, tnmtngirl!
excellent comment, tnmitngirl!
“To get a sense of the fracture that cuts this city in two, drive along Delmar Boulevard, a major four-lane road that runs east to west. Hit the brakes when you see an Aldi grocery store and put your finger on the blinker. Decide which world to enter. In the blocks to the immediate south: Tudor homes, wine bars, a racquet club, a furniture store selling sofas for $6,000. The neighborhood, according to U.S. Census data, is 70 percent white. In the blocks to the immediate north: knocked-over street signs, collapsing houses, fluttering trash, tree-bare streets with weeds blooming from the sidewalk. The neighborhood is 99 percent black.
The geography of almost every U.S. city reveals at least some degree of segregation, but in St. Louis, the break between races — and privilege — is particularly drastic, so defined that those on both sides speak often about a precise boundary. The Delmar Divide, they call it, and it stands as a symbol of the disconnect that for years has bred grievances and frustrations, emotions that exploded into public view on the streets of the majority-black suburb of Ferguson after a white police officer fatally shot an unarmed black teenager. Ferguson is north of Delmar; the suburb of Crestwood, where the officer lives, is south.
Even the way people perceive the Aug. 9 shooting and the street protests that have followed is influenced by geography. “I’m one of those people that feels sorry for the officer,” said Paul Ruppel, 41, a white business owner who lives just to the south of the divide. “For the most part, I believe the police of St. Louis are doing a great job.” Said Alvonia Crayton, an African American woman who lives just to the north of Delmar: “My reaction is, what took them so long? Michael Brown was basically the straw that broke the camel’s back.”
St. Louis’s geographic divide stems from a legacy of segregation — legal and illegal — and more recent economic stratification that has had the effect of reinforcing racial separation. Even now, some tony suburbs maintain large-lot single-family zoning, essentially closing the door to lower-earners who might want to subdivide a property. St. Louis, its urban center hollowed out, has had far less of the gentrification that has transformed other Rust Belt cities, including Chicago and Pittsburgh. Look at a map of St. Louis, color-coded by race, and majority-African American communities sit almost exclusively to the north — that is, above Delmar…..continued

There are NO WORDS:
Meta, I’m fairly certain that’s just the NYT being mocked, the line under Wilson headline is made up?
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/25/us/darren-wilsons-unremarkable-past-offers-few-clues-into-ferguson-shooting.html
Oh, thanks, Chips. A shame that I could be fooled into believing it.
That’s the thing Meta, after some of the stuff we’ve read, it was perfectly believable. That says it all.
Chips,
What a delight this R&S is!
Didn’t remember that 6 years ago was the Denver DNC.
I was riveted to my TV set that week.
Had never seen the video of PBO watching Michelle’s speech, and fell in love with her again.
Really wish there was a way for her be our next President — such elegance and accomplishment and warmth — I’m probably the loudest complainer here about political dynasties (i.e., Bushes, Clintons), but it would be such a kick to have Michelle Obama as the first female POTUS.
She was so compelling when she spoke about homeless veterans last month in Los Angeles — and of course, crickets from the MSM (save @latimes, which pretty much covered it from a local news angle).
Love TOD, love PBO and love Michelle Obama!
Can’t wait to see what they do for the 100th anniversary.
Marking my calendar now.
don’t need to read that article given what you all are saying. funny i don’t remember “the news” bringing up mike huckabee’s angelic son who hung a dog for fun at about the same age as michael brown was:
http://crooksandliars.com/2007/12/16/huckabee-squashed-charges-against-his-son-for-stoning-hanging-dog
and mike gets paraded around as a serious presidential candidate, just like aynrand paul, who also has an angel as a son as well, and who did this while he was older than michael brown was:
“”Sen. Paul is a national public figure and subject to scrutiny in the public arena, however, as many parents with teenagers would understand, his family should be afforded the privacy and respect they deserve in a situation such as this,” according to the statement released late Sunday by Moira Bagley, Paul’s communications director.
The younger Paul was charged with three misdemeanor offenses: disorderly conduct at an airport, being intoxicated and disruptive and consuming beer and wine underage. He is due in court on February 25, the Mecklenburg County court clerk’s office said.”
so even when “the news” gives one little mention of this kind of angelic behavior with white, republican presidential candidates sons, it says the family “should be afforded privacy and RESPECT” since boys will be boys, right? but michael brown may or may not have recently tried weed and booze, and heaven forbid, tried some raps recently! OMG!
We all know what this is about….that is why the NYT is being called out….for the scumbags that they are….
Sweet, sweet memories come with those 2008 pictures. Chips Chica, you may not be a singer, but you sure know how to play them heart strings! Thanks.
Wow, the guy who wrote “he was no angel” continues to get major push-back - incredibly, he appears to be at the funeral
Good afternoon, TOD. Really worn out today. Was to attend the funeral of a friend this morning; just couldn’t get up and get started. He was an extraordinary jazz violinist.
ohhhh myyy goodness….
i have so many great memories of him and his music…he was always as the summer festivals..in the days when Jazz ruled the airways in Philadelphia…the loss of WRTI as a Jazz force in the city cannot be measured…
i remember the first time i heard him play…it was such a delight…i had never heard jazz by way of the violin….
may he rest in peace….
