Oh dang.. I might just see POTUS’ helicopter today :) :) As he goes to Ft McHenry- we’re close to the Harbor and could see the Blue Angels practicing yesterday- from my porch. We’re going to Ft. McHenry too, but not until Sunday, I so wish I could go today.. I believe the Gov and our mayor will all be out there today. Someday I WILL see President Obama, not giving up that dream :)

2-Year-Old Fires Father’s Gun Injuring Himself and Others in Diner

The boy’s father, Sergeant Matthew Magish, said he was standing in line at Wendy’s when his son “stuck his hand in his pocket looking for a snack.” Unbeknownst to the toddler, Sgt. Magish had a personal semiautomatic pistol in his pocket, which discharged after his son grabbed it. As the bullet hit the floor, fragments bounced off and struck the 2-year-old in the foot, as well as injuring the boy’s grandfather. Two nearby female customers were hit with fragments.

VOTERS NEED A CRASH COURSE IN GOVERNMENT 101 ASAP.

Telling Midterm Voters What’s At Stake

    By Ed Kilgore

    ———————————-

“We were exploring what would motivate them to turn out to vote,” Lake tells me. “One of the things that came up is that these drop-off voters had no idea that control of the Senate was even up for grabs and were even very confused about who controlled it. These voters are very representative of drop-off voters in a lot of states.”

Lake says the focus groups — and follow-up polling Lake conducted — determined that one message that motivates these voters is that the outcome of the Senate election in their state could decide Senate control. However, that alone isn’t enough to motivate these voters. They also need to be told why it should matter to them which party controls the Senate, Lake adds.

I think they need to be educated about what has been happening or should I say not happening in the Senate and House and why. The media has so misinformed by just passing along talking points and focussing on administration criticism leaving out the GOP part in everything as well as looking for all things negative to report rather than showing the progress we have made under this President. This lopsided reporting suits the big money corporatists but does not inform the voter.

President Obama may be keeping it classified because of intel that relates to current or future ops. The President is a very wise man. If he deems something necessary to keep secret for the present time, than I trust him (and I’m sure millions of other Americans do, too) to make a reasoned and careful analysis of the situation and the ongoing need for retaining certain national security matters in secrecy.

    GM TODville.

Quick comment about the 200th anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner.

The music is based on a traditional British song.

The words were penned by a tenacious anti-abolitionist.

All things the media and history classes fail to inform the public.

My emotions are stirred whenever I hear the National Anthem — I don’t support changing it to something blander — it brings me to tears at times, can only imagine what it’s like for Americans abroad to hear it — thinking of those Americans abroad on September 11, 2001.

However, I was truly shocked to read Wikipedia’s entry for FS Key (F. Scott Fitzgerald’s cousin):
“In 1836, Key prosecuted New York doctor Reuben Crandall, brother of controversial Connecticut school teacher Prudence Crandall, for ‘seditious libel’ for possessing a trunk full of anti-slavery publications in his Georgetown residence…”

Fits the stories I heard from my Juneau friends in 2008 when Palin came on the scene Nationally. I immediately began researching Palin having lived and taught school in AK for ten years. I had since retired and moved back to OR keeping in touch with friends. Besides the news articles I found on Palin describing cronyism, grudges, and being investigated for misuse of office power for personal vendettas my friends informed me of events that sound similar to this brawl. The one that sticks out in my memory is that the older male Palin son, the supposedly military made out to be hero was in the military only due to being involved in some Juneau youth vandalism acts. It is off the record as he was in high school at the time. The judge had given him a choice of juvenile delinquent home or military service. Thus the bragged about military son in the campaign. Juneau is a closed in community with no roads in or out so air travel is second nature there. Everyone pretty much recognizes who news articles are about even when the minor is written about anonymously. Teachers are especially aware of these events. The vandalism involved school property, slashed school bus tires, stolen computers etc.

Happy Friday, TOD! I’m trying to wake up every day between now and election day and vow to do one thing that will help give our President a blue Congress to work with. Today, I’m asking my Ladies in Blue (it grew out of phone banking to help pass the ACA) buddies if they will host some home phone banks after ballots drop in Oregon October 15th. We can go and to the offices and make calls, but it’s so much more fun to do it from someone’s home with a little wine and cheese.

It is not hyperbole at all, not when you consider that every so often some elected official talks about restricting voting for minorities or ending early voting. The shock is that people haven’t taken to the streets with pitchforks.

Good news in California, the state deemed to be “ungovernable” by our stellar MSM (snark) a few years back, when CA was swimming in a sea of debt with an unemployment rate that topped 12% after Arnie and the 2008 financial meltdown.

I’ve always had a soft spot for @JerryBrownGov — he stood up in the audience at the Palomino in North Hollywood at a Linda Rondstadt performance when she introduced him (in the 1970s). Always liked the smaller, more intimate venues. :)

I wasn’t the biggest fan of Jerry Brown as mayor of Oakland, but he was and is an excellent governor. When he was governor the first time, he drove a Volkswagen and lived in an apartment rather than the governor’s mansion.

“Don, what makes you think McCain isn’t unhinged? It’s been years since he’s seemed even remotely coherent to me and he never did make a lot of sense. As for Palin, she is a limited, classless, morally challenged, inarticulate exploiter who was asked to do something far above her capabilities. She saw it as an opportunity to make big bucks and used the most hateful crap she could come up with to draw the suckers in to give her cash. She got a lot of money and being the witless twit that she is, spent it all and now she’s thrashing about trying to figure out the next con she can pull. McCain never had the foggiest idea what he was doing or how to handle her.”

I’d folded the sheets yesterday, so he hauled in a few of Mr. 57’s T-shirts and socks, a random towel, and a sweater of mine.
