My ‘unbiased’ $0.02 from across the pond.

You all remember nut n yahoo’s last ‘address’ to the cong critters just before the 2012 elections where there was a 100% attendance and all the critters gave him ‘standing ovation’ for every crap he spewed?

From that utter 100% crass cowardliness of the critters to today’s 90% (mebbe it’ll ‘grow’ into lower number) cowardliness, I’d say he has done a heckuva job.

Just an FYI…..Spandan is back at TPV. He explains his temporary absence, and has posted two excellent articles: one on “Don’t feel sorry for John Boehner” with a good rundown on Boehner’s behavior and motives, and the second on the far left and how they should be apologizing to PB after his veto of the KXL, but of course they haven’t.

On a personal note: I met my new doctor today. We HAD to change doctors for several reasons. I so like her. She actually listened and explained, and I believe I will have good care. Fortunately, I haven’t been sick, but we never know when we get to a “certain age.” This was a relief. I was nervous beforehand, because I have so disliked my previous doctor for over a decade. I know, I know, a slow learner, but we finally made the decision to leave him, got a good recommendation from close friends, and both of us are delighted. We wanted to stay in the same hospital network we’d been in for 40 years…..transition made, and it’s a good one. Relief tonight.

The Rijksmuseum museum in Holland had an idea: Let’s bring the art to the people and then, hopefully, they will come to see more - at the museum. They took one Rembrandt painting from 1642, Night Watch and brought to life the characters in it, placed them in a busy mall and the rest you can see for yourself!

Pakistani authorities have conducted their first-ever mass arrest of parents for refusing to allow their children to be vaccinated against polio.

Authorities in Peshawar, in the north-west of the country, detained 471 people and charged them with “endangering public security”.

The local government says they will only be freed once they have pledged in writing to vaccinate their children.

The Taliban prohibit vaccinations and have attacked health workers.

The Taliban have claimed that the polio vaccination drive is a front for espionage or a conspiracy to sterilise Muslims.

In November four polio vaccination workers were shot dead in the south-west city of Quetta.

Twenty-seven senior Afghan police officers have been sacked as part of what the government calls a drive towards good governance.

The move involves 17 district police chiefs in the capital Kabul, along with officers involved in counter-narcotics.

The changes were ordered by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, who has said many officers had links to warlords.

Since taking office last September, Mr Ghani has repeatedly sacked officials accused of corruption.

Recently he sacked dozens of officials just hours into a snap inspection.

However the BBC’s Jonathan Beale in Kabul says the latest dismissals are not as radical as they appears. Many of the police officers removed have been handed new jobs and awards.

    What has me so upset today: the choice of the city of Cleveland to blame the 12-year-old CHILD they murdered (Tamir Rice) for causing his death!!!! Why would anyone with any brain and soul do something so callous;

My visceral reaction to this garbage from Cleveland was in the form of rage expressed in Ms Nina Simone’s : “Mississippi Goddam”. It may be different circumstances but right now I feel like shouting “Cleveland Goddam”

The concluding remarks by our Ambassador Rice could not be more poignant ….

“This weekend, President Obama will travel to Selma, Alabama, to mark the 50th anniversary of the historic marches there. He’ll pay tribute to those brave souls who took enormous risks for civil rights, including Jews and rabbis from across the country—from St. Louis and San Francisco; the Northeast and the Deep South. They faced tear gas and billy clubs, Torahs in hand. They were jailed. They conducted Shabbat services behind bars, and they sang “Adon Olam” to the tune of “We Shall Overcome.” They broke the fast of Esther in prison. They even started a trend. Some black marchers, moved by the solidarity of their Jewish brethren, started wearing yarmulkes—they called them “freedom caps.”

As you recalled last night, one of those on the front lines in Selma was the great teacher, Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel. After marching across the Edmund Pettus Bridge with Dr. King, he reflected, “our legs uttered songs. Even without words, our march was worship.” Our march was our worship.

The Jewish community amplified the rightness and the urgency of the civil rights movement with its own unassailable moral compass—guided by the basic principle that people should be free in their own land. And, I stand before you knowing that I and many others would not be where we are today without all those who fought for equal rights – African Americans and white Americans, including so many Jewish Americans. As we mark that Selma anniversary, as we gather here to celebrate an improbable dream that grew into the great State of Israel, we remember what we can accomplish together, when we’re at our best.

In a spirit of brotherhood, we have overcome so many trials to reach where we are—as nations, as peoples. In a spirit of brotherhood, inspired by all those who marched and struggled and sacrificed before us, let us continue the work. Let us never succumb to hopelessness or cynicism, to division or despair. Let our legs utter songs, and let our hands reach out together. That is how we fulfill our common commitment to mend our imperfect world, to do the holy work of tikkun olam. And, as we do, at home and around the world, the United States will always stand with our Israeli friends and allies.

That’s our enduring commitment. That’s our sacred duty. That’s the hope and the future for our children. So, let us keep marching arm in arm together.”

      http://www.nytimes.com/2015/03/03/us/politics/hillary-clintons-use-of-private-email-at-state-department-raises-flags.html?_r=0

How many emails were in Mrs. Clinton’s account is not clear, and neither is the process her advisers used to determine which ones related to her work at the State Department before turning them over.

“It’s a shame it didn’t take place automatically when she was secretary of state as it should have,” said Thomas S. Blanton, the director of the National Security Archive, a group based at George Washington University that advocates government transparency. “Someone in the State Department deserves credit for taking the initiative to ask for the records back. Most of the time it takes the threat of litigation and embarrassment.”

Mr. Blanton said high-level officials should operate as President Obama does, emailing from a secure government account, with every record preserved for historical purposes.

The revelation about the private email account echoes longstanding criticisms directed at both the former secretary and her husband, former President Bill Clinton, for a lack of transparency and inclination toward secrecy.

Mrs. Clinton’s successor, Secretary of State John Kerry, has used a government email account since taking over the role, and his correspondence is being preserved contemporaneously as part of State Department records, according to his aides.

Yes, I am sick of calling out racists and using the word “racist.”
But the impact of having an African American President has unleashed the core of those who are.
Every day he wakes up and is still working hard holding his peace with a smile. That’s more than enough for me.

No, 99. It’s a total fail irrespective of the fact that, temporarily, certain folk think they are acting with impunity. History has never been kind to those ‘certain folk.’

I have to admit I am surprised at my reaction to the news about Hillary’s emails today. I am not surprised that she tried to hide them incase there was anything in them that could give her a problem running for the Presidency. That act is in character with how she ran in the primary in 2008. I am not her fan. My surprise is that I became aware that I would rather have her than a Republican and I worry if she runs with dumb moves like this she could lose.

I was reading the Clinton story in the NYT and noted that there is a list alongside of the 10 most emailed stories on the NYT. 4 of those 10 (including No 1) were about Downton Abbey. This defines the US media.

Unf-believable! Only Hillary could bring a welcome distraction from “the speech”. Cannot stop laughing. With all of the digital upgrades the O administration did when they came into office, you know she once again just thought she could ignore the rules when they came to her. The timing is too funny and oh so perfect. Take that Bibbi! And on another positive note, I am happy to see more and more Dems seem inclined to skip the speech tomorrow. I’ll be curious to see the final tally. In any event, at this point I don’t think they are going to have much impact unless he is stupid enough to reveal confidential details. If he does that, he will pay an even bigger price. Not sure if even Netanyahu is that stupid.

WORLD FEDERATION OF UKRAINIAN WOMEN ORGANIZATIONS

    CALL TO ACTION

SOLIDARITY with NADIYA SAVCHENKO Hunger Strike

    March 8 2015 – International Women’s Day

The World Federation of Ukrainian Women Organizations calls upon women around the world to unite in support of Nadiya Savchenko on March 8 – International Women’s Day – by joining Nadiya Savchenko in her hunger strike for one day.

In June 2014, Nadiya Savchenko, a Ukrainian military pilot and former officer of the Ukrainian army, serving in a Ukrainian volunteer battalion in eastern Ukraine, was captured by Russian terrorists and illegally transferred to Russia.

She is being held in prison in Moscow where she awaits a trial date in May 2015 on charges that she provided the coordinates of two Russian journalists who were killed in a mortar attack in the Luhansk region. Savchenko denies the charges and cell phone records confirm that she was in the custody of Russian forces when the journalists were killed.

Since December 13, 2014, Nadia has been on a hunger strike protesting her illegal detention. She has lost 17 kilograms (37 pounds) or 26% of her body weight. Her situation is critical.

The UN Commissioner for Human Rights and governments across the world have called for Savchenko’s immediate release.

Show your support for Nadiya Savchenko by joining this international hunger strike. Notify local media to bring attention to Nadiya’s critical situation and call for her immediate release. Local events can include demonstrations, marches, vigils or meetings in community centres or even private homes. Invite a speaker, send articles to local newspapers, issue a media advisory, publicize your event on social media, send messages of support to Nadiya, upload photos and reports about your event to the Nadiya Savchenko Facebook page. (https://www.facebook.com/nadiyasavchenko1).

Donations equivalent to the cost of food you would have consumed on this day can be made to the Patriot Defence Fund (www.patriotdefence.org) in support of Ukraine’s army.

Join us in supporting Nadiya. Together we can make a difference.

Agreed. If they had lasted another 5 more overs, it would have done a lot of good for their net run rate. They still have a chance if they win next 2 out 3 matches. No, they can’t win all three since we will be in the way. 8-)
