He even accused the guy of not even being from AZ (he was ) and called the guy a jerk. Is it really a surprise that he chose Sarah Palin as his running mate in 2008?
And here were these political pundits laughing with glee at McCain’s behavior.We really dodged a bullet when he was not elected president. Something tells me Obama would not have gotten a pass if he had acted like this, but for some reason McCain gets away with shit like this.

There is a report out now pointing out how climate change is a contributing factor in the conflict in Syria and there have been conflicts over water access in Kenya as well as refugee crises because of terrible drought and famine in East Africa. Republicans prefer to bury their heads in the sand, collect their oil and gas industry contributions, and neglect the strategic interests of the United States.

Given that the President basically summarized the report, I do have one question:
No mention was made about hiring practices.
Let me explain: My father was head of the finance department of the Amsterdam City Police from the mid-70s to the late 80s. One striking statistic he told me was that, on average, only 1 in 10 of the applicants for the job of police officer was hired - too many people either didn’t qualify or tried to enter the Corps with a wrong attitude (to what a police officer should be).
Did the group that produced this report even looked into that ?
I *do* remember a police officer in Ferguson - on national television, no less - talking about the people he was supposed to “serve and protect” as “animals”. Why would the local police force even *hire* someone with this attitude ? Surely there would be others willing to join who’d fare better in the “people skill” department ?
The GOP won’t go for this. It is not in THEIR best interest.

In the two decades following the ban, approximately 10,000 enslaved Africans were brought to the Gulf region, compared to the 73,000 enslaved Africans who arrived in the United States between 1801 and 1808. Mobile, Alabama, holds the distinction of being the port of entry for the last cargo of African slaves kidnapped and brought into the United States in 1859.
The act did not hinder the domestic sale of slaves within the United States and it failed to provide a remedy for illegally trafficked Africans.

Senate Democrats blocked the motion to negotiate with the House on the Homeland Security funding bill that means that John Boehner is both out of options and quickly running out of time on his Homeland Security crisis.
The final vote 47-43. Republicans were 13 votes short of the number needed to move forward.
Before the vote Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) told House Republicans that Democrats weren’t going to take part in Boehner’s charade:

I have been complaining about her for several weeks now… she keeps popping up on most of the cable shows . 8 times in the past 3 weeks.

I think some may. I think a message needs to be sent to Boehner that he went over the line with this shenanigans. However, whether we like it or not, Bibi is the head of state of a major ally of ours and I think, as such, he deserves some respect. I know people here would be upset if PBO visited, say, Germany, and all the members of one of the opposition parties chose not to attend.
Where Boehner made his mistake is that he thinks he is using Bibi for his own purposes, while in reality Bibi is using Boehner. Boehner will get nothing out of this, Bibi might.

No matter what we think of him, he is an astute politician and knows the temper of the Israeli voter. All he needs to do is up Likud’s vote by a couple % and he stays in power. He feels, and he may be correct, that this will do it. He knows perfectly well that he is not going to influence enough people to put an end to the talks or any possible agreement. But he gets to pound his chest and “stand up” to PBO, and just like here, there is a large group of voters in Israel that will respond positively to that.
The difference is that PBO would NEVER undermine the people of Germany and go to that country without informing the Chancellor. If he did such a thing I believe that he would understand that he would be addressing them at the risk of opposition. What Boehner did here is unprecedented and trumps any respect for any head of state that would be willing to take part in such an egregious act.

In addition to the atrocities that Bibi inflicted last year on the Palestinian people, Bibi conspired with Boehner to deliberately deceive the WH in order to poke a finger in the eye of POTUS and scuttle talks.
POTUS would never put himself in that situation.
Bibi deserves nothing from the USA in fact, taxpayers should not be forced to fund Bibi’s wars.
President Obama would never visit another nation under similar circumstances so there would be no reason for one political party to boycott the visit.
Bibi - I believe is Prime Minister & head of government - which in a parliamentary system is different to head of state. In the US PBO is both. In Israel there is also a President who is the nominal head of state - but he has little political power.

I was gobsmacked to sit in the medical lab awaiting my turn to be tested last Thursday (day after the ‘story’ broke in the village here) to see the story featured as one of the ‘news’ item on the local channel. I rolled my eyes that with our global connectivity no one is immune to the stupidity that comprises ‘the news’! OTH, I did feel proud of our reporters in the village since these days I am invariably a day or two ahead of our ‘local’ news. :grin: :grin:
