Black people must be wondering if there is any positive in calling the cops if they need help; it just might result in them getting killed by the same people sworn to protect and serve

****

If a video hadn’t emerged, these lies would have been believed by some in the public that still 100% trusts cops. Walter Scott didn’t struggle with the cop for his taser. The cop planted it by his dead body after murdering him

****

Just be white. Sad but increasingly true

****

The media is complicit in these tragedies that don’t value black lives. A black man is mauled to death by a cop’s dog as the cop watches, and this reporter’s response is to use a pun

HiYa, vetivera24! Am immersed in the tweets from our amazing NerdyWonka. This post is the one that always twists, turns, and leaves me wring out some nights. It is more news and insight that any one person could possibly take in on the regular news networks (which I never watch anyway, have no teevee). Thank you, NW, even tho it is a massive amount of information for me to grasp. Blessings, dear NW.

Ugh. I never watch Rachel anymore, but the one time I tune in, since forever, she mentions a petition on the WH website that would seek to ban “conversion therapy” for LGBT citizens. Sad story connected with the petition, and it appears it has the requisite number of signatures to gain WH response. But at the end of her commentary, Rachel had to add a postscript that the petition segment of the WH website may be working in this case to get the administration’s attention, and something like the petition website has “otherwise been looked at as a joke.”

    To whom, Rachel? A joke?

    Grrrr. And ugh.

    • April 8, 2025 at 10:00 pm

“the petition website has otherwise been looked at as a joke”

To privileged TV folk, perhaps, who have a soapbox very single friggn’ day - so can comfortably afford to sneer at efforts to allow the ‘little’ people’s voices be heard.

She’s brilliant, Jacqueline, but I just can’t watch her anymore because of crap like this.

      • 42 jacquelineoboomer
        April 8, 2025 at 10:04 pm

Agree, totally. We’re all just supposed to sit on our hands and listen to the Gospel of Rachel? No, thanks. (I find her very unworldly, for all her intelligence.) (Ha - like I’m so worldly!)

        • April 8, 2025 at 10:07 pm

You know the way I come out in a rash if I even see Jon Stewart’s face? :???: Rachel doesn’t piss me off quite as much, but it’s close - both brilliant, smart, funny, witty; both so far removed from real life the gap is nigh on unbridgeable.

        April 8, 2025 at 10:55 pm

I haven’t been able to stand her since she said Pres. Obama didn’t really want DADT repealed.
A lot of people say she’s brilliant and does a good job reporting. But I could never get past that swipe against the president.
Many times, I find her short sighted and too quick to knee-jerk. And that’s why she will always get the side-eye from me.

        • April 8, 2025 at 10:56 pm

Yeah TrumpDog, that was one of her lower weirder moments, an absolute lie, and she must have known it. I think that’s when I said ‘buh bye’ too.

Wow, I’ve been catching up on the news from SC since I’ve been at work at 9am and I see the young man who recorded the footage released to NYT has come forward. I kinda wished he had stayed anonymous as long as possible. The young man is courageous and I honestly fear for him, and so I’ll be saying extra prayers for him and his famiy. I hope he’s prepared for the shittake storm those bastards on the right will bring to him.

Also, I’ve read somewhere that a 2nd video that allegedly came from the police car dash cam.

If it came from car cam, them it may show the “struggle” or when Mr Scott “fled” the traffic stop.

Now if this 2nd video does show that type of footage and was released first, you can best believe it would be used to say “any” struggle from Mr Scott would deem it as enough for his murder by this damn cop.

Will the coverage change? Almost certainly.

Now of course the car cam may not show any struggle, but I certainly expect to see, even in “friendly” sources, commentary about “well why did he resist” or “well he does appears to be struggling with the officer”.

If such as tape exists then that is when the shit will hit the fan. I suspect the PD would have already looked for the dash cam video and if it had shown a struggle, I fully expect them to “leak” the footage ala Mike Brown’s cigarello video, but in this case, the family was able to get this video out first.

    http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/238217-second-video-exists-of-sc-police-shooting

Maddow said we can expect the 2nd video to be released tomorrow.

Thank you NW for your usual fabulous compilation of the world, the universe and everything :)

I’m wondering how much money counties/cities would save if the police departments were closed and the state took over ALL policing (like it happens in my world). Just read this link

    http://news.yahoo.com/settlement-approved-suit-over-botched-rape-investigation-211848188.html
“The county had previously paid more than $68 million in judgments, settlements and legal fees for the sheriff’s office during Arpaio’s 22-year tenure.”

For all those who want to stop paying city taxes - get rid of the police.
