What is the Conservative God? Money. What is the Conservative goal? Pure capitalism. How do they achieve that? Kill the public sector so the private sector can do the same thing, but make a PROFIT using fewer people to do more work for less money. (Killing jobs for profit. You know, like Mitt Romney.)
Once upon a time, Health Insurance in the United States was a regulated industry. Then President Reagan deregulated it, and until President Obama signed the ACA into law on March 23rd, 2010, it was legal for a Health Insurance company to take your money for 20+ years, then drop you once you needed serious coverage, and never give you a refund.
Ever since the beginning of The Great Health Care Reform Fight, the GOP has been screaming that this is a “GIFT” to the Health Insurance industry, and everyone on the Right have done everything they can think of to either overturn it, or “take back” the government so they can repeal it.
I want you to go read that paragraph again. Doesn’t it seem odd? To me it’s like the laws of gravity ceasing to exist on Earth because the Health Insurance industry (and by extension, BIG PHARMA) is one of the largest donors to the GOP.
If the ACA is the giant “gift” the GOP wants you to believe it is, why are the Health Cartels™ spending billions of dollars for lobbyists and donations to the GOP to repeal it? If it’s a “gift”, where are the campaigns from Anthem and Aetna trying to make it permanent? Where are the commercials from United Healthcare saying how much they love the ACA? Why aren’t the GOP candidates singing it’s praises since it’s theoretically pouring more money into their Sugar Daddy’s pockets, and ultimately their own?
Because it’s NOT a “gift”, and they all know it. But because most of their base is undereducated and will believe anything their “leaders” like Rush tell them to believe, they continue with The Big Lie™, because it’s working.
The basics of the ACA are awesome.
No lifetime $ caps on coverage.
No dropping subscribers when they need claims paid.
No denial of coverage due to preexisting conditions.
Children stay on parent’s plans until 26.
No copays for preventative care.
80¢ of every dollar spent in premiums must be spent on actual CARE.
No more donut hole for Medicare D.
And more……
But the most important part that no one is talking about?
The non-profit exchanges that are coming online in 2014.
This is when your health insurance will no longer be tied to your job. These true non-profits will be able to offer better, more comprehensive plans for far less money than any of the for-profit companies do now, because they won’t have $12million+ CEOs to feed, stocks to sell, and profit margins to worry about. They will also be allowed to merge across state lines to offer larger risk pools, so the costs will come down further. Mandating everyone participate means costs come down even more. These will eventually merge nationwide, and THAT IS HOW WE GET SINGLE PAYER.
Scalia’s ridiculous assertion that the ACA mandate is equivalent to making someone buy broccoli is ridiculous on its face. No sir. You’re alive, and must have FOOD to stay alive. Unless you live on a desert island, or own your own self-sustaining farm, you will be forced at some point to BUY FOOD. What food you buy is up to you. (You obviously love Fettuccini Alfredo and Snickers®.)
By the same rules, you are ALIVE, and like needing to eat, the chance you will need health care at some point in your life is almost 100%. What plan you choose to buy is up to you. But if you live in the US, just like you are required to pay taxes to participate in one of the greatest Western societies, and enjoy the niceties the government provides you like roads, infrastructure, clean air, clean water, electricity, public transportation, schools, fair commerce, postal services, police/fire/emergency services, the military, etc… you should be required to pay for some sort of health care so as not to burden your fellow citizens by having to pick up the tab for your freeloading ass, and overburden an already overburdened health system.
The ACA will eventually put the For-Profits out of business, and they all know it. That is why they are raising rates as much as the law will currently allow because in 2014, all of that will be heavily regulated. They know their days are numbered so their only choice is to grab as much money as they can in premiums, continue to deny claims and throw all the money they can at the GOP to try to defeat the Left, get President Obama out of office, and put a willing puppet like Romney in so they can go back to legalized embezzlement by repealing every last bit of the ACA.
We cannot allow that to happen because THIS is how we free ourselves, and change the FOR PROFIT Health care industry forever.
This is WHY the GOP wants it repealed so badly. Their money tree is about to be chopped down.

Thank you, Tally for breaking this down. I just knew it had to be something more. It all makes a lot of sense, now. What bothers me is how they lie about caring and it is all about the money in their pockets. They were not expecting this shift.
People are finally waking up….some slowly, I know. But if we be patient and good reads like this and others who post here, one person can and will make a change. And before you know it, the whole room all 9,000,000 of usmand counting….will be better informed, better off , expect the worse from these greedy money hungry power driven thugs. No wonder those clowns were screaming from the top of their lungs APPEAL OBAMA CARE! He sure does care! He cares enough to take on decades of their For Profit money tree and they are crazy, now. Saying and doing things ……anything to trip this intelligent, thoughtful, caring President. And they cannot touch him. Why? Because he is cut from a different cloth. His strong, impetuous independent Mom met an intelligent, educated driven man who fell in love above all odds and produced a gift for the 21st century. How miraculous is that! I am going to savor every minute of this and walk with this miracle in every way I can.
I am so glad to be alive knowing that we have a President who ……as you, my dear Tally would say…….fucking gets it!

I had never looked at it this way, only seeing the outward advantages of the ACA, not thinking to look below the surface to understand what benefits to insurance companies and the For-Profits the elimination of this law will provide. The duplicity and double dealing of the Republican Party never ceases to amaze me…always out for the most wealthy and corporations…I think that is very disgusting! they are willing to deprive millions of children, the elderly and poor of healthcare because they have, in their opinion, the right to do so, and the Supreme Republican Court is well on their way to being complicit in this evil…thanks LDS for a great post, you and Tally are on a roll…great voices speaking out for our rights! Thank you Tally! Great post with tremendous truth to power for those of us who believe the ACA is a lifeline for so many people! Do these Republicans activist judges even think or care about how many children and elderly people will be affected if this Republican Court overturns the law???NO, I do not believe they do, and I do not believe they care! I, as a mom, who has loss a son cannot think about how many people the overturning of this law will affect, how many children lives it will change, and how many lives will be loss if it is overturned…sad…I am a forever optimist who will not believe, until I see it, that five people, on this Court, will do so much damage to the sick children and elderly of this Nation…I pray that God touches the hearts of these men to understand how many people/children with pre-existing conditions, that will lose their insurance, they will be affecting/killing?, if this law, by their hands, is overturned…we can always pray for Roberts and Thomas to be overcome with divine intervention and clarity…have a blessed day everyone here on my favorite site on the web…much love!!!!
