‘hailed by the chief’

MSNBC: President Barack Obama told the crew of the space shuttle program’s last mission that he’s proud of them and the “amazing feats” they are accomplishing in space.

… When the astronauts came on the line, the president feigned surprise, saying, “I was just dialing out for pizza and I didn’t expect to end up in space.”

Later in the call, he referred to the fact that 10 people had to share the space station’s two toilets and Atlantis’ sole bathroom. “My wife and my daughters are always crowding me out - hopefully you guys have a more organized arrangement than we do.”

Totally cool - thank you, Chips. I was struck, as I am when I see our mliitary personnel interact with POTUS - of the deep mtural respect. So different than the constant awkwardness when bush had to relate to, well, any human. “Godspeed.”

Love the comment about dialling out for a pizza! What a sense of humor PBO has even in the midst of all the c**p he is going through with the repugs. He is awesome as are the astronauts, I also love the comment about the bathroom, it sounds like my house in reverse - my husband and son crowd me out in the mornings before school run!!!

We are so blessed to have PBO, not only a GREAT President but an incredible human being!!

Amen. POTUS is such a cool nerd. I love his interaction with the science community. He genuinely respects the astronauts and they also respect him. Quite wonderful to observe. The pizza and bathroom comment was funny.

He always makes similar comments in regard to being the only guy (except for Bo) in the house, but you know that he would not have it any other way. When some reporter asked him about whether or not he wanted boys, he said that raising boys was like raising tiger cubs. I love the great respect and admiration he shows not only for the women of his family, but also for those on his staff and the many women in all walks of life that he meets and inter-acts with. His special relationship with Valerie Jarret ( I love the picture of the two of them sitting on the steps and walking together on the south lawn) and with Chancellor Merkle of Germany ( recently celebrated with the medal of freedom and a state dinner) shows his respect for smart, strong women outside of those in his family.

Wow, that was awesome. Tears. Thanks Chips. All those patriot faces and the highlight President Obamas praise of Nasa and the missions past and present.

Obama taps Chelsea Clinton for World Cup delegation
By Lynn Sweet on July 15, 2025 8:26 AM | No Comments
WASHINGTON-Four years ago, Obama and the Clintons were battling over the Democratic presidential nomination; on Friday President Obama tapped Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of former President Bill and Secretary of State Hillary, for a delegation to the women’s world cup finals in Germany.

The delegation, led by Dr. Jill Biden, will attend the Women’s World Cup Final on July 17, 2025 between the U.S.and Japan.

U.S. ambassador to Germany, Philip D. Murphy will also be at the game.

Chelsea Clinton keeps a low public profile-except for her wedding last year. This is her first government appointment.

Is this the start of something?

Umm, that’s what I though too luci. Chelsea was a bit too low profile for someone in her peer group during the campaign. Sure hope she has a smidgeon of graciousness somewhere in that Clinton body.

This is simply wonderful that POTUS would take the time to recognize NASA and the astronauts. This gives him an audience where he is able to explain is vision for future space exploration. That man is soooooo smart!

It is so amazing how POTUS can treat people with so much pride and joy for the hard work that they do, and then they are so grateful to him and acknowledge him as the President . Some people can take some lessons from others, in my estimation.
