If you can, please donate $5 (or more) to Obama/Biden 2012 – be one of a million 😉
Here is yet another reason to donate.
Apparently, the more things change, the more they stay the same. Set aside the cigarette/pipe smoke and the fact that the panel is all male. It was 1963, after all. JOBS and JUSTICE, then.
LISTEN to what is being discussed and how it’s being discussed. How did we get from this to Beck, Limbaugh & FOX news in 2011? Do you think a discussion like this could happen today? JOBS and JUSTICE, now. Sigh…
Civil Rights Roundtable 1963
Thanks,Ison. I don’t know how you remembered/stumbled onto this, but it was worth sitting and listening to the discussion, apparently done following the march. The fact that I was seeing familiar faces in their younger days also made it more interesting to me.
Frankly, I don’t think we’d see the openness on the part of everyone involved if we tried this today, given the climate that Limbaugh et al have been stoking, and also given the fact that there is still such a long way to go towards equality and justice, nearly half a century later. These guys (white and black) wanted an honest discussion. I’m not so sure everyone does today, although the younger generation is generally more open.
p.s My computer has been cutting in and out(probably tired as I’ve been on all day), so I’m not even sure this will post, but here goes.
I am sseriously impressed with the whole discussion, although I disagree with some of Brando & the Director’s opinion that the equal rights bill / govt giving equality is less important as people giving it to themselves/each other.
Heston is the real surprise here, he’s so honest and empathetic. And the journalist, asked relatively smart questions.. and let them answer 🙂
I do agree though that an honest conversation like this hasn’t happened in too too long.. not since POTUS gave his race speech imo.
Well it’s pretty impressive for then given that the Birchers were very prominent and the segregationist forces held sway over many parts of the country including politicians in Washington. These two groups were preaching hate on a level that would make Limbaugh blush.
Oh zizi what a find, am going to tweet the link, because I think it ought to be seen.. then will watch the rest of it, thank YOU 🙂
Oh I’m sorry- Isonprize, my apologies (I said zizi 🙂
I like the quote from Heston by Thomas Paine: ” these are the times that try men’s souls….” Fitting as much in our time, the age of ‘Obama’ as it ever was.
isonprize, I will tell you how, Rupert Murdoch. That old rich bastard had alot to do with it.
GOP Releases ‘Same Failed Policies’ Jobs Plan
There wasn’t anything new in the jobs plan the Republicans released yesterday. After blocking The American Jobs Act proposed by President Obama, which would actually create millions of jobs, the GOP announced their own plan which is less about jobs than it is about settling scores and making corporations jump with glee.
Where is the part about actual jobs? The answer is that there is no part about jobs. This jobs plan is about killing the economy and making corporations our masters. The Republicans have absolutely no intention to do anything about jobs, other than destroying them and giving them to people in third world nations.
This is one party’s attack to hurt our economy. If Congress passed all of the wild and crazy ideas of the GOP, America would lose millions of jobs. And Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) plans to set forth a bill to cut 10% more government jobs. That’s another 400,000 jobs that would be lost because of Republican irresponsibility, greed, hatred of the government, and their disregard for the welfare of the American people. The Republican “jobs” plan is nothing more than a rehash of the same disastrous policies that crashed the economy in the first place. It’s a corporate giveaway that will hurt the American people even more. The Republican plan is a threat to the American future.
Apparently boner was crying to WH about the “president attacking them about AJA”. Hope PBO continues to do it 24×7 till Nov 2012 regardless of their and msm’s yelps.
Boehner is such a whiner. Either he’s crying 24/7 or he’s moaning and bitching about how mean PBO hurt his feewwwings….. Cry me a river! 🙄
It’s a wonder Boehner isn’t too scared to leave the house. The guy has a real emotional problem, which he’s spraying all over us.
They have been back on their heels since the flawless roll out of the American Jobs Act. From the joint session of congress, the detailed documentation on the whitehouse.gov website, the interviews with local media, the endorsement of experts, taking the AJA on the road to Virginia, Ohio, North Carolina, California, the Weekly address, West Wing Week – President Obama has been relentless in promoting the AJA and circumventing the media firewall. The American people are with HIM.
President Obama did all of the work and presented congress with legislation that was ready to go and just needed an up or down vote. There was nothing controversial in the American Jobs Act. So now we get to have each item brought up individually. Which will just prolong the process and continue to put focus on the need for action on job creation NOW.
As Jay Carney said (after the whining from Boehner), We must have hit a nerve. You got that right. The very fact that the GOP had to dust off their tired nonsense about no regulation, no taxes, and repeal of ACA and Dodd-Frank tells you all you need to know. They got nothin. I can’t wait for the jobs bus tour. It will give the GOP something else to whine about.
Moody’s Economist Says GOP Jobs Bill Would ‘Likely Push The Economy Back Into Recession’
but, but…that old angry nutjob loser that if all regulations are kicked out, ‘the job creators’ will miraculously produce “billions and billions of jobs” for 300 million americans. Guess what he meant was with all regulations gone, americans will finally have the golden opportunity of holding multiple 50 cents-an-hour jobs. How do you not see the brilliance of this plan beats me.
Bruce Bartlett, republican, economist and former official in the Reagan and George H.W. Bush administrations has said more than once that the republican plan won’t work, but Boehner, Cantor, McConnell, Ryan, and the others are determined to force their failure-filled jobs plan down our throats. Their plan is a giveaway to Big Business, Big Oil, and the rich, but they think we’re too stupid to realize it. All of the polls show that the American people like PBO’s jobs plan, but the GOP doesn’t care. After the kill women bill passed in the House yesterday, Boehner had the unmitigated gall to claim that in passing the bill, the republicans were doing what the people asked them to do. Mr. Bartlett thinks that the bills centered on deregulation, DOMA, and abortion are smoke screens the GOP is using because they don’t know how to craft a bill that creates jobs. I want PBO to keep hitting the GOP on their failure to produce a viable jobs bill. It’s time that Americans see exactly who the republicans are working for.
They got nothing. Hope the stupid voters would realize it finally.
I think Canter is the speaker, I don’t know what Boehner is.
I hope the President keep going after Boehner, McConnell, Canter, and those Tea Republicans. He has a bus tour coming up. Keep up the good work Mr. President.
Is that ticker working properly ? It seem stuck.
Hey Kids I got a donation page for when Donna was talking earlier. So whenever we’re doing this thingy I’m ready Freddy.
oh yah. here’s my address.
Great job a4alice. I will help your thermometer tomorrow morning.
I have a fundraising page on my.barackobama.com, but I have no clue how to make it accessible. I’m stuck with sending individual invitations and I am not getting any responses. How do you make a fundraising page visible?
I just put in $50! Yes we can!
Neat You’re my first donation yay! thanks Taiping
I will donate tomorrow too. I like to make $5 donations so I can spread it around.
I just made a contribution on your behalf. In addition, I have participated in the campaign that seeks out matching donations. I actually made two contributions to the POB campaign this week. One already matched. The projected match will net $270 additional in the goal to get to a million donors.
I saw that – thanks so much for your help! Like your fist bump avatar 🙂 44 for 4 more!
Hello Alice, I will donate to your page but also don’t forget to make sure your friends and family pay you back for all the presents or gifts you ever given them by donating at a min $3.00 and of course more.
I am going to lay on the guilt to friends, co-workers, and family members to donate to my page when its created….
Hah! Good point hmmmm there’s my secret santa list at work……..
Happened to see Harry Belafonte on Joy Behar tonight, talking about “Herb” Cain.
He called him a “bad apple,” said he’s “not what he appears,” and when Joy said she didn’t think he had a prayer, Harry said, “I don’t think prayers were meant for him.”
Pretty much the sentiments I’ve been feeling, along with a couple of others, eh?
The more Cain talks, the more he alienates the Black vote. If he thinks he can get a third of them to vote for him against Obama, he’s delusional. Not with the things he’s saying.
A US appeals court has upheld and overturned parts of an Alabama immigration law that is seen as the toughest of its kind in the US.
The judges temporarily blocked a measure requiring schools to check the immigration status of students.
They also overturned powers to charge immigrants who do not carry documents proving their legal status.
But the three-judge panel let stand a provision that allows police to detain suspected illegal immigrants.
Friday’s ruling by the 11th US Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta, Georgia, follows a legal challenge by the federal justice department this month.
Immigration is a flashpoint in Alabama state, which has seen a rapid rise in the size of its Hispanic population.
Supporters and opponents of Alabama’s law say it is stricter than similar acts in Arizona, Utah, Indiana and Georgia.
Judges in those states have blocked some or all parts of those measures.
I’ve been noticing recently a call by some on the right here in GA for a need to be able to override the decisions of the federal courts and the 11th Circuit was mentioned. Newt Gingrich proposed this in the last debate. It’s unconstitutional, and it’s sad to say, but Newt will have many here who will get on the bandwagon and support this nonsense.
Earlier today, at Donna’s suggestion, I submitted a petition to the White House.
The link is: http://wh.gov/272
The text is:
we petition the obama administration to:
Divert 2 % of the Fiscal 2012 Defense & Homeland Security budget to repair roads, bridges, ports
Roads, bridges and ports are key logistical infrastructure elements, vital for our National Security. Our National Security is threatened by high unemployment as well as the deplorable status of thousands of miles of roads, major bridges and ports.
Our petition recognizes and addresses these critical deficiencies by requesting that 2 % of the Fiscal 2012 Defense and Homeland Security budgets be diverted to repair and improvement of roads, bridges and ports.
Moreover, we request that a comparable amount be added to the Fiscal 2013 & 2014 Defense and Homeland Security budgets to enable improvements to roads, bridges, ports and broadband fiber & wireless communications systems.
Let’s strengthen our National Security by lowering unemployment and improving our logistics infrastructure.
I realize 25,000 votes is a very steep hill to climb given the limited time I have to promote the petition and the fact that while I’m very effective pushing for others I’m rather lousy doing it for my own stuff 🙂 If any of you can help, I’d appreciate it.
Interestingly, I did post a couple of tweets and Van Jones has already RT’d it to his rather large number of followers.
Any help you can provide will be much appreciated.
Paging tiger and his twitter army.
Fantastic Bob. I’ll promote it on Facebook starting tomorrow.
oh bob you guys that’s a great idea. K I’ll tweet and sign it.
Done. Signed and twittered. Great idea.
Signed and tweeted, Bobfr. Well done.
I just signed and twitted. Great petition
Great idea. Signed and Tweeted.
To each of you – amkforobama, Donna, Alice, Betsy, Jacqueline, mtmariyn, WalkinOnSunshine – I’m touched by your support.
25,000 votes is a very steep goal – whether the petition makes it (hopefully for the sake of our fellow citizens and Republic) or not, you’re efforts are truly special.
I’m signature #12, Bob. You’re off to a good start.
For some reason, my password isn’t working at the We the People site. As soon as I get this straightened out, I’ll sign. It’s a great idea. I hope the president can do this unilaterally.
Even more motivation to donate, summarized in a very few characters:
America – you now know that unless you are a fetus or a 1%er @SpeakerBoehner & the #KOCHMAFIA have ZERO regard for your LIFE & well being.
I sent an email to Jon Tester (D. Mont.) asking why he voted against the Jobs Bill. He sent out an answer saying that he voted against it because 250 billion of it was devoted to temperay tax gimmicks. Anyone know what he is talking about? Also, want to note how much fun it is to see President Lee Myung-bak and President Obama’s interactions. I heard they really like each other–and it shows.
You were nicer than I was toward Jon Tester. I tweeted him to just go ahead and return to dirt farming, which seems to be his only personal claim to fame.
Sorry I can’t help with the response to the “tax gimmicks” charge. But I don’t think the economists who say the AJA will work are talking about there being any tax gimmicks in it. Maybe Tester could tell us what he meant by that, if he hasn’t gone back to the farm yet.
He makes my blood boil! Fake smile and a DINO heart, it seems.
He should be FORCED to back that up with facts, the @#$%^&*()+@ turncoat!
WTF does he mean “temporary tax gimmicks”. Would he have preferred they be permanent?
Sorry, but now was not the time to get nit picky. The president needed him – needed ALL of them to stand strong. Tester and Nelson provided the GOP with a cover for voting against the bill and another talking point. FUCK him. Even scary punk Manchin was a yes!
Tester can go pound sand with that bullshit excuse.
Here is a good piece from Booman re the auto industry:
// Personally, I’m glad to see the president out in Michigan visiting auto plants that would be shuttered without his decision to act. He might have some problems winning states in the Upper Midwest next time around, but anyone remotely connected to the auto industry should have no problem choosing him over any Republican, especially Mitt Romney. //
President Obama and his team have decided to turn public anger at Wall Street into a central tenet of their reelection strategy.
The move comes as the Occupy Wall Street protests gain momentum across the country and as polls show deep public distrust of the nation’s major financial institutions.
And it sets up what strategists see as a potent line of attack against Republican front-runner Mitt Romney, a former investment executive whom Obama aides plan to portray as a wealthy Wall Street sympathizer.
Many Democrats consider Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, the greatest threat to Obama when it comes to wooing centrist independents next year, and Romney this week has begun to present himself as a champion of middle-income Americans.
Obama aides point to recent surveys that show anger at Wall Street spanning ideologies, including a new Washington Post-ABC News poll in which 68 percent of independents and 60 percent of Republicans say they have unfavorable impressions of the big financial institutions.
But the strategy of channeling anti-Wall Street anger carries risks. Many of Obama’s senior advisers have ties to the financial industry — a point that makes Occupy protesters wary of the president and his party.
It is unrealistic to be in a position of power and NOT have some tie to the financial industry in this country which was built on the premise of capitalism. It is hypocritical to suddenly decide that you want nothing to with a politician simply because some of their advisors have ties to the financial industry. President Obama also has many advisors who have ties to the labor industry. I find it rather curious that no one has directly asked the Occupy Wall Protesters what they think of the Repub front runner (Mitt Romney) or the Republicans in congress.
Forbes has an article on OWS – but we already knew all of this.
// Kalle Lasn, 69, is their quasi leader. He’s the publisher and editor of Adbusters magazine. It’s a small, non-influential critical and artsy magazine with a decent following of around 90,000 who call themselves “culture jammers”. Occupy Wall Street began in the conference rooms at that Vancouver mag.
I spoke with Lasn in July, right after the new edition of Adbusters hit the news stands with the now famous image of a ballerina balancing on the Wall Street bull. Above her head read the Twitter hashtag #OccupyWallStreet. Lasn didn’t know what this movement would become. Just two and a half short months later, it’s the talk on The Talk, The View and every major news channel. //
Herman Cain raised $2.8 million in the third quarter and has $1 million cash on hand, according to his campaign.
The former Godfather’s Pizza CEO announced the total during a campaign appearance in Tennessee Friday. He said the campaign had no debt.
The total comes in well shy of the other two front-runners in the GOP race, as former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney raised more than $14 million and Texas Gov. Rick Perry raised better than $17 million. Both men have about $15 million cash on hand.
It’s all so unreal to me that real live people would contribute to any of those losers, ya know?
Just watched Piers Morgan try once again with Sean Penn to get some negative reaction out of him about President Obama.
Murdoch’s lapdog first asked Penn about the 2012 election, “If you had to consider the one whom you would prefer to be the Republican nominee, who would it be?”
Sean Penn answered, “Barack Obama.”
I kept my fingers crossed after that, but Penn went on to make other very thoughtful comments about the President and what he has had to deal with, and gave a scathing attack at the end of the segment on the Tea Party (whom he said have one goal – “to get the N-word out of the White House”) (sorry to even repeat that, but he said it and it has to be said).
Chips – With so many other clips to post, would you mind considering posting this segment from tonight’s show, when available?
And Sean Penn was like Matt Damon, during the hati earthquake.
The President must have made a believer out of him.
WOW! Go Penn!!!!!
I don’t watch Piers and am wondering if him asking about the president is some nightly thing? Like is that a question he asks of everyone? he seems a bit obsessed with Obama.
I don’t remember any entertainment show host ask about Bush when he was in office.
Does he ask ANY one questions about how they feel about the different Repub candidates? I guess not!
It would be hilarious if Chipsticks compiled ALL the videos we have so far of Piers asking celebrities about the President just to show how ridiculously and disturbingly obsessed with the President this guy is!!
That’s a great idea hopefruit2, all the videos of Piers Morgan asking celebrities about the President.
The thing that I noticed is the sour face he makes when the celebrity doesn’t bash the President.
He doesn’t look happy at all.
He did say that he admires Donald Trump a lot….enough said.
Why doesn’t he ask people about their opinions on Rupert turd murdoch?
I watched the Piers Morgan interview with Sean Penn and even though he called out the teaparty for their racist attitude – and how their number one agenda is to get the Black man out of the White House because they feel that black people are inherently inferior to white people – which they cover up with the slogan that President Obama is representative of “big government” which “spends” “spends” “spends.” His defense of President Obama wasn’t 100% honest. He said that this country would be better off with a President Denis Kucinich then we wouldn’t be friendly with dictators or be involved with any wars, (may I remind him that Kucinich has some uncomfortable close ties to Gaddafi who is one of the dictators Penn despises) that voting for him (Penn) isn’t a happy process and he would most likely vote for President Obama because what other choice was there. He also rambled on and on about how he wants peoples expectations to be astronomically and unrealistically high about President Obama so that President Obama can step up to the plate and finally be bold and do something bold. What did he think health care reform was? Repeal of DADT? Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Act – which included the harrassment of an LGBT individual as a federal crime? Creation of the CFPB? Nominating two women to the Supreme Court? – one of which was the first Hispanic individual on the high court. Financial reform? Child Nutrition Act? He then complained about President Obama and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. He neglected to mention that the war in Iraq is winding down. Surprisingly, it was Piers Morgan who got Penn to even acknowledge that President Obama inherited a huge mess from the previous administration and then Penn said oh yes he did inherit a huge mess and he’s trying as hard as he possibly can to fix it and the mess goes back as far as the 1980s.
All in all the only strong defense of PBO by Penn was rightfully calling out the teaparty for the vile racist scumabgs they are; and how they partake of government services which they purpost to hate such as Medicare, Social Security, Police services, Fire services, free public school education, financial aid for their college kids. Beyond that, he just rambled on and on about PBO not being bold enough, but trying the best he could, and he would most likely vote for him.
Yes because President Denis Kucinich would not have to deal with Blue Dogs and Republicans.
It’s like when Michael Moore was there and said that the President did nothing when he had a super majority in both houses.
They don’t even know the facts, they just complain.
Thanks for the recap UT
Sean Penn is just another far left purist who doesn’t know much.
I think anyone who think President Obama didn’t do anything when he had super majority, is just lying. They need to talk to that auto worker who was on Rev. Al show yesterday.
Just added that video in the new thread Anniebella 😉
Great! That UAW worker was superb!
utaustinliberal – I cherry-picked the two really good parts of the Sean Penn interview (not to mention the sad look on Piers Morgan’s face, when he didn’t get what he wanted), because I had tried a new trick while I was watching it.
First, I never watch Morgan’s show because he’s so crude and Murdoch-ish, so I forced myself to “audit” the interview without getting as personally invested in it as I usually do. It’s gonna be a long campaign.
Second, for me to hear a calm discussion out of Penn who is a far (not to mention far out) leftie, self-described, radical (not that his causes aren’t just – it’s his immaturity of thought that gets me), with several good points about the President (including his implication that he voted for him in ’08 and would in ’12), was more than I had hoped for. He did drop in the name of the underwhelming Denis Kucinich, and I thought to myself, “Oh, boy, here it comes,” but he went on quickly after that. (Quite frankly, in 2017, I’ll still be talking about “my guy,” President Obama, wishing he could have had a third term!)
In other words, though what you said was perhaps more of a full-blown description of the interview, my response was less critical here only because I am trying not to let these “headliners” get to me. Keep up your passion!
Wow- AP headlines– Big Bucks: Romney and perry top GOP fundraising.
Sent another $25 into the Obama fund in addition to our monthly C-note, just to keep my end up on TOD.
Personal note — found all my problems these past few months stem from a robust kidney stone. No terror from me about that snaking thing going up through my urethra to seek out and crush the stone, no. What I’m always terrified of is the panic attacks I’ve experienced after two previous surgeries under general anesthesia. Truly, I would rather die on the operating table than experience another one, each of them took me a total of three years and many months of therapies to get over them.
I think I’m fallowing the directions from my personal internist, which worked for recent surgeries, but this particular surgery was decided just today and before I had two weeks of pre-emptive medication before each surgery. I have only two and a half days this times. And my doctor is off at some meeting and his office closed.
Well, I can only hope it’s enough and that I can have a talk with the anesthesiologist before he does his work to ask for a bit of alresapam in withthe anesthesia. I think I can politely refuse to go into the operating room before I talk to him. My daughter said she and her Dad will find him, if worse comes to worse, and bring him back to me by the hand.
I’m going to have a comforting blessing from our (Episcopal) priest beforehand, thank heavens. But I would appreciate a prayer or a mantra or a blessing from Allah or the Great Spirit or Wicca wishes or simply warm thoughts and wishes from the dear people who come to TOD that the terror of a panic attack stay away from me this time, too. It takes months and years of recurring attacks once it grips me — which I’ve managed to avoid for many years. I don’t want to spend my last months or years being afraid, you see.
See you next week some time. I might repost this tomorrow since I’ve posted it so late tonight. I need as much good thoughts as I can get.
May God bless you and Keep us posted.
Prayers and blessings and good luck anxiety medication too! There are imagery and healing exercises for surgery which you can google.
Joan, I know of what you speak. Please know that you are in my heart, my thoughts and my prayers. I pray that God will be your strength and your shield. Try to remove from your mental plane any thoughts of fear, replace them with thoughts of beauty and the miracle of life. Invision your physical being surrounded by white, pure, and brilliant light. I will hold you in that light as well.
I have had terrible experiences with anesthesia, although the last two surgical procedures went well for me. The most recent because frankly I didn’t know what the hell was going on so I had no opportunity to focus on me fears or anxieties. Prior to that I had a friend who does energy work, perform Riki on me in the waiting room presurgery. It worked beautifully, I had no adverse effecrs from the anesthesia, and I recovered very quickly from the surgery.
Let us know the date and time your surgery is scheduled so that are thoughts can be focused at an opportune time. Focus on loving and beautiful thoughts, it is your best defense., and know we are with you.
Thank you, Sue — I will remember this. Our Reverend Sue might even know of it, she’s a very unusual and innovative priest. Anything that comes to hand and that could work, she’s open to.
Surgery is scheduled for some time after 2:15 on Monday, the day after tomorrow. Takes an age after getting there for all the preparation and as you all no doubt know the place back there is freezing and between the normal nervousness and frigid temperature, I shiver the entire time. I keep asking for more blankets which come out of the warming cupboards and feel glorious — for a little while. By the time I came out of the CTstan yesterday, I was heaped over by five of those thin blankets, looking like a pile of laundry on the way to the wash tubs. And I was still shivering.
Hiya Joan. I’ll be sure to keep you in my thoughts and prayers during your surgery. I’ll be sending you warm, comforting thoughts. Just take a deep breath and know that the TOD family is there with you in spirit and is sending HUGE positive thoughts your way. Stay calm my friend; you’ll pull through just fine.
I’m sending prayers of comfort and healing your way, Joan. You’ll be fine. We TODers are on it!
Best wishes Joan, My most positive thoughts go out to you for a easy surgery and speedy recovery.
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. May God bless you.
Thank you Jackie, and everyone!
Google “Potentials Unlimited”. Hypnosis helps too, and you can download an mp3 that you can listen to immediately. Barrie’s voice is one that’s authoritative and soothing. I’ve used him for years and went from being nervous and anxious all the time to being calm.
Oh Joan, it breaks my heart to hear you’re so worried about this, I had no idea you had been through such a horrible time after previous surgery. I love the idea of your daughter vowing to bring the anesthesiologist back to you “by the hand”, if necessary, I think I know where she got her spirit and determination from. We’ll all be thinking of you on Monday, and praying to whatever higher power we worship! You can get through this Joan, and life without that blasted kidney stone will be way better. Love ya.
Joan happy you have found the reason of all your health issues.Hang in there. We’ll keep you in our prayers. Please take good care of yourself and see you soon.
P.S : Good morning TOD family
Probably too late to post something but if you read this know that you are in my thoughts.
Joan, I will keep you in my prayers. Kidney stones are not a small thing. It is good to have your family close for support. Please let us know how you are doing when you can.!
Oh, Joan – I’ve never heard of that kind of a reaction. My heart goes with you into surgery and I will pray for you. You will get through this! Wrap all the love that is TOD around you! Let us know how you are doing, when you can.

The media chief of militant group al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) has been killed in an air strike in southern Yemen, Yemeni officials say.
The defence ministry said Ibrahim al-Banna, an Egyptian national, and six other militants were killed in the attack in Shabwa province on Friday.
Some reports said the attack involved US drones, others that it was by Yemeni planes.
US drones killed the group’s leader, Anwar al-Awlaki, last month.
US retail sales rose at a faster-than-expected pace in September, offering signs of hope to the country’s economy.
Sales were up by 1.1% over the previous month, beating economists’ forecasts.
That is the biggest gain in seven months, according to seasonally adjusted data from the US Department of Commerce.
Excluding vehicle sales the data suggests a 0.6% gain. For the year as a whole total sales registered a 7.9% improvement.

So now that Ralph Nader has been so far unsuccessful in attracting “third party” candidates to primary President Obama – he now wants Mayor Bloomberg to run as an Independent. Bloomberg of all people who represents everything that these so-called “greens” hate. Nader rationalizes his position by claiming that Bloomberg is a “self-made” rich politician who cannot be bought. Excuse me? How do you think Bloomberg got to be rich in the first place?!?!?!?! I think Nader should just come out and say that he would rather have a Republican in the WH because he (Nader) IS a Republican despite what he claims.
Aren’t many in the ows admirers of raphie boy ? Someone should show them this piece to pen their eyes.
Bloomberg endorsed by Nader?? Unbelievable…..anyone but President Obama.
Bloomberg, won’t run because just like the fake ass life stories of all those Regressive party bums are being exposed his life will be under the microscope for all to see as well..
1. Such as changing the rules so he could be mayor for another term in NYC and this is still unsettling for a lot of New Yorkers..
2. How he has profited more at the expense of the poor and middle-class 99% in the last decade.
Bloomberg is do far up wall streets ass…
He also supports tax cuts for the wealthy.
Me thinks, Nader is under s lot of pressure to find any one someone, some sort of deal was made, he has come up Empty. Albeit, bloomberg is for gun control, tax cuts for the rich, socially liberal, big bank friendly…
Newt Gingrich angrily refused to answer reporters’ questions about his fundraising numbers. I guess there was nothing to boast about.
If I hear 9-9-9 one more time, I’m going to scream……at least Letterman explained what the plan is……funny stuff
i sent that 999 Herman Cain a message. Now he is saying I never said that all blacks were brain washed. Now that he is stupid enough to think that he has a chance to be the Republican candidate he is trying to change his words a little bit. I told Cain that maybe all the blacks are brain washed, just like all the whites who hate President Obama are brain washed. But dear old Uncle Cain would never say that though.

Huntsman’s high-flying campaign
Jon Huntsman’s back-of-the-pack presidential campaign may be in the poorhouse – but that hasn’t stopped the candidate from running a penthouse-and-private jet operation.
A POLITICO examination of the former Utah governor’s travel expenses, filed in his federal campaign disclosure reports, show the candidate and his staff stayed in some of the most exclusive and expensive hotels in New York and Florida, racking up $67,000 in bills at Biltmore, Ritz Carlton and Loews Regency hotels since May.
Meanwhile, Huntsman, the former ambassador to China – and a millionaire businessman – spent $127,000 on private jets over the same period, much of it during his kick-off tour this spring. Since then, the campaign has been racking up the frequent flyer miles on commercial carriers and staying in lower-rate hotels.
Huntsman spokesman Tim Miller said the expenses were justified, the hotels were in line with prevailing rates – and the candidate is learning to live within in his means as he gains experience.
Talk about “deficit control”
Anybody knows if the Rev. Al march will be on C-Span?
I believe that CNN will be showing parts of it…I haven’t seen anything on CSPAN which seems to be covering an all-day conference on Gender with Anita Hill, etc.
Bobfr; I signed your petition, as well as tweeted and Facebooked it. Great idea!
